Isaiah Likely was carted off the field at practice today, John Harbaugh called it a multi-week injury. Greg Newsome was also carted off the field, and his injury is assumed to be bad. The guys disagree with the Ravens being the Super Bowl favorites, according to Fanduel. They think that the Ravens will run into a wall against Kansas City or Buffalo. Pirates Broadcaster Greg Brown joined the show. Greg says that he still thinks that Ben Cherington will make a big trade before the deadline. Brown says it's possible that David Bednar has pitched his last game as a Pirate, but it's also possible that he will remain a Pirate. He also says that Bednar took PNC Park all in after his 100th save. Brownie says that he's confident that Cruz and Skenes will remain Pirates at the deadline. He also says the Pirates should take advantage of desperate teams at the deadline, and that the Pirates need a left fielder. What's the Pirates best deadline move? Poni and Mullsy name JA Happ, Zane Smith as potential answers. Mullsy says that JA Happ should have pitched the Wild Card game against Jake Arrieta. Tony Watson for Oneil Cruz was a great trade, but not good enough to be the best ever. A commenter says that Austin Hedges for bonus pool money should be in contention. Poni says that the Red Sox do not like Mitch Keller. Donny Football Debrief – Poni skipped a field trip to a Yankees game in Little League, and missed a perfect game. Is Ben Roethlisberger a better quarterback all time than Brett Favre? The guys do not think so. Donny thinks Ben is around 12th best all time, while Favre is around the 8th. Poni mentions that Brees gets dinged for playing in a dome, but Favre doesn't get any credit for playing in bad weather. Mullsy says that Favre's last season was statistically better than any season Ben had. Poni says that he is going to bet on the Hall of Fame Game.
The Pirates blank the D-backs 2–0, and we're breaking it all down. Oneil Cruz delivers the big blow with a 2-run homer, and Andrew Heaney—likely making his final start as a Pirate—throws a gem that no one saw coming. We talk about Heaney's rollercoaster season, the bullpen stepping up, how David Bednar and Dennis Santana have been light out, and how the Pirates continue to stay afloat despite offensive struggles. Plus: what's the realistic trade return for Heaney? And is Cruz finally starting to click at the plate? All that and more in tonight's postgame breakdown. What major league hitters are realistic trade targets for the Pirates? And which of the Pirates' late-round MLB draft picks is the most intriguing?

North Shore Nine Postgame Show Powered by Primanti Brothers. The Pirates return from the All-Star break with… that performance. Tyler and Doug break down the brutal 10-1 loss to the White Sox—aka the second-worst team in baseball—on a night where Bailey Falter faltered, the offense was lifeless, and Joey Bart couldn't catch a break (or a strike). We vent about the total lack of energy, question the Pirates' catcher situation, and give a well-earned tip of the cap to Isaac Mattson for showing actual heart. We also touch on Oneil Cruz's solid night, IKF doing IKF things, and how many more days of this roster we really have left before the trade deadline changes everything.

In Hour 2, Spadoni and Shasky discuss Pirates' outfielder Oneil Cruz as a trade target ahead of Shasky's list of top three most important Giants heading into the second half of the season
Joe Shasky highlights Pirates' outfielder Oneil Cruz as a possible fit for the Giants as the trade deadline nears, citing him as an ideal change of scenery guy.
In his weekly Pirates mailbag podcast, Post-Gazette insider Noah Hiles answers reader questions. Among them: When will MLB award Pittsburgh another MLB All-Star game to possibly showcase stars like Oneil Cruz and Paul Skenes in their home stadium? What's the latest Noah's hearing on the trade front, with particular regard to Mitch Keller? Could the Chicago Cubs be looking to acquire Ke'Bryan Hayes? Did GM Ben Cherington get enough for trading Adam Frazier to the Kansas City Royals for Cam Devanney? Will MLB insist on a salary cap in its next CBA? And what's the future for Henry Davis and Jack Suwinski? Can they work out their struggles with the Pirates? Or do they need a change of scenery?
The All-Star break gave Pirates fans a lot to chew on — from Oneil Cruz's 513-foot bomb in the Home Run Derby to Paul Skenes dominating the first inning of the Midsummer Classic. Cruz tied for first in the opening round before falling in the semis, while Skenes went 1-2-3 with two strikeouts in a perfect debut on the national stage. We also break down the new Home Run Derby swing-off format and whether MLB should expand it beyond the All-Star Game. But the break wasn't just about spectacle — it also marked the beginning of trade season. The first domino has officially fallen, with Adam Frazier being dealt to the Royals in exchange for Triple-A shortstop Cam Devanney. Could this signal more moves to come? We also dive into the Pirates' 2025 MLB Draft haul, headlined by high-upside righty Seth Hernandez at No. 6 overall. We cover key Day 1 picks like Angel Cervantes and Murf Gray, plus some of our favorite Day 2 names. Does this class reflect a shift in draft strategy, and how do these players fit into the system? Finally, we preview the upcoming White Sox series as the Pirates return to action and gear up for what could be a pivotal few weeks before the trade deadline. Noah Hiles from The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette comes on The Fan Hotline to react to the 2025 MLB All-Star Break with Dorin Dickerson and Jason Mackey.
Former MLB Pitcher Matt Clement joined the show. Clement says that Oneil Cruz did his job in the home run derby, that job being to entertain. He also says that he hopes that MLB does not move to a swing-off format for regular season games. Matt says that the job that has to be done at the trade deadline is not an easy one for Ben Cherington. Matt says that if it were up to him, he would trade David Bednar.
TJ Watt has signed his extension with the Steelers. One of the biggest radio hosts in America thinks it's more of the same from the Steelers – spending on defense, scraps on offense. Chris agreed. He pointed out that the Eagles spend so little on their defense and they are the best-run team in the league. When can the Steelers flip that narrative? Colin Cowherd thinks TJ Watt is worth the money, but not a fan of the deal from the Steelers perspective. Mullsy says that the Steelers have not been spending money on offense because they don't draft anybody that's worth paying. Mullsy also says Tomlin is most at fault for the QB situations going south. Former MLB Pitcher Matt Clement joined the show. Clement says that Oneil Cruz did his job in the home run derby, that job being to entertain. He also says that he hopes that MLB does not move to a swing-off format for regular season games. Post-Gazette sports columnist Jason Mackey joins host Adam Bittner to react to the hot topics in Pittsburgh sports this week. Should Steelers GM Omar Khan and coach Mike Tomlin make an exception to their rule of not negotiating contracts with players during training camp and into the season when it comes to T.J. Watt? Or should they stick to their guns as he reportedly seeks a contract that would take him to his age 36 season? Is there still time to trade him? And would that defeat the purpose of signing veterans like Aaron Rodgers and trading for names like DK Metcalf, Jalen Ramsey and Jonnu Smith? And are there any lessons we can learn from the Le'Veon Bell contract holdout close to a decade ago? Our duo tackles those questions, then talks some hockey. What should we make of Penguins GM Kyle Dubas' moves so far this NHL offseason? Does the deal for goalie Arturs Silovs signal big moves coming with Tristan Jarry and/or Erik Karlsson? Should the team tank for a chance to draft Gavin McKenna? Or give Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin and Kris Letang a chance for one more Stanley Cup run together? And what should we make of reports that Mario Lemieux and Ron Burkle are looking to re-assume ownership of the club? Our duo tackles those questions and more. Then in the third segment, airing on the PG's Pirates YouTube channel, the guys tackle the hot topics surrounding the club this week. Should GM Ben Cherington be allowed to trade big names like Mitch Keller, Bryan Reynolds and Ke'Bryan Hayes while his future is in question? Or should Bob Nutting limit his options for deals to players on expiring contracts like Tommy Pham, Andrew Heaney and Isiah Kiner-Falefa? What should we make of Reynolds' continued struggles? Was Seth Hernandez a good top pick in the MLB draft? Where does Oneil Cruz go from here after his MLB Home Run Derby performance? And how seriously should we take Konnor Griffin as a prospect?
