On this week’s episode, we’re going to share some of the best of Atlanta Born & Brand. There are over 60,000 black-owned businesses in Atlanta and we are committed to make sure our show accurately reflects the city we represent. Today, we’re excited to bring back three Black business leaders; Tracey Pickett from Hairbrella, Brandon Butler from Butter.ATL, and Jaquan Cummings of QuanATL. Ladies, there’s nothing worse than spending hours in the salon only to walk outside and see the beautiful sight that is rain clouds… am I right? Well, our guest today saw just how this was affecting women. In a professional world that has deemed image and appearance is everything, she decided she would take matter into her own hands. We’re excited to introduce to you today, Tracey Pickett and have her tell you about her mission to empower women to conquer the world without worrying about the weather. In 2020, Atlanta is a major player in national culture. Whether it’s music, film, or business, there’s a ton happening in our city. That’s where Brandon Butler and his team at Butter ATL come in. Butter is a new-media company that spawned from a local digital agency, and they describe themselves as Atlanta’s culture channel. Brandon is the team’s executive director, and as you’ll learn from hearing his story, he is uniquely suited to run this innovative startup. Jaquan Cummings is one of Atlanta’s top photographers. If that doesn’t sound familiar, you might know him as QuanATL. At just 24 years-old, Quan has already established himself as one of the best in his craft in Atlanta. He’s caught the eye of a huge community on social media with shots of him sitting on the edge of skyscraper rooftops several hundred feet in the air. We talked to him about those signature shots, turning his hobby into a career, and dealing with the loss of the person who inspired him from the beginning.
Since owning and operating a successful candy reselling enterprise in middle school, our next guest hasn’t been afraid to rewrite and reconfigure his ideal role by doing everything from heading tech startups and becoming a DJ, to pursuing an MBA and getting into creative tech spaces like in his current role, as the lead content creator a wildly successful ATL-based media company. In this week’s episode with Brandon Butler of Butter ATL, whom I’ve known for close to 20 years, we’re chatting about:- Brandon’s journey from middle school to now as a multi-passionate tech creative.- What life looks like when you have an entrepreneurial spirit and still work for someone else.- Why he believes “It doesn’t always have to make sense if it makes you money.”- Plus, shares the question he always asks himself and others before starting a new business venture. Whether you’re a small business owner or in Corporate America with an entrepreneurial spirit coursing through your veins, you’ll definitely want to take a listen.
