The science of wellbeing, Positive Psychology is an academic sub-discipline that can directly help us improve our lives and be happier! We delve a little bit into some concrete ways to improve our lives, and it’s all based on research! And then we will also discuss a product some say makes them happier. We are walking a positive path here! LET’S TALK THE WALK! In the last of the series on happiness, we watch Dan Gilbert's TED talk called "The Surprising Science of Happiness" and then we discuss it. What are your thoughts about being able to create our own happiness or choose happiness?
I'm guessing that you, like me, have choices and decisions we wish we had stuck with or done differently - last month, last year, or a decade ago. If only we could get ourselves to make those wise decisions TODAY! How grateful our future selves would be! Enter: future self continuity. This research shows that the more real we can make our future selves to our present selves, the more likely we are to act in ways our future selves will appreciate. I take this info and put it in the context of art-making and creative work and YES. I want you to take your future self out on a date. This episode I'm talking why it's important to consider a Future Vision for yourself. Change is a constant, and yet most of us underestimate how much we do change! If we're not in the driving seat, setting our course, life has a tendency to just happen to us.Here I'm going deeper into:How it's easy to look backward, but looking forward requires us to look insideThe difference between Therapy vs. CoachingWhat life is like when you're on the Offense rather than on the DefenceAnd how taking the time to think about your future breeds possibility (and possibility contains a spark of magic in my mind! ;))I reference Dan Gilbert's TED talk, The Psychology of Your Future Self: https://www.ted.com/talks/dan_gilbert_you_are_always_changingI also refer to an article I find useful in describing the difference between Therapy & Coaching by Patrick Williams.
