Editor's note: A version of this story was originally published in October 2018. Not long ago, two of our listeners wrote in wondering about paranormal hotspots in the Charlotte area. Does Charlotte have local ghosts? Is the city haunted by the supernatural? According to some students and longtime faculty at Queens University, the answer might be yes.
U.S. Olympian, dressage coach and youth mentor Charlotte Bredahl is Elise’s guest on this episode of Because of Horses Podcast. Originally from Denmark, Bredahl moved to California at the age of 20 with little more than a suitcase and the dream of becoming an elite equestrian. Known for her compassion, work ethic and commitment to personal growth, Bredahl quickly rose to the Grand Prix level. She competed 42 horses over 37 years, many of whom she developed herself. Bredahl is perhaps best known for her breathtaking performances on the quirky and sensitive Monsieur, her partner on the bronze medal winning team for the 1992 Olympics in Barcelona. She returned to the international spotlight in 1997, riding Lugano to the silver medal in the North American Championships. Bredahl trained both horses from start to the Grand Prix level. For Bredahl, riding and training has never been about winning ribbons. She loves the process of developing horses and has turned her focus almost exclusively to coaching and training others. In 2018, Bredahl was appointed the US Equestrian Federation (USEF) Dressage Development Coach, which will allow her to help athletes to reach elite performance goals. Previously, she worked as the USEF Assistant Youth Coach and from 2009-2011, was the featured clinician for the US Dressage Federation (USDF) Adult Clinic Series, teaching riders in each of the country’s nine regions. She was presented the USDF Gold Medal of Distinction and named a USDF Honorary Instructor. Topics of Discussion: [:18] About today’s episode. So much to discuss this week, with the awful Roman Reigns news the most important. We're all amazed they managed to keep the cat in the bag until 8pm Monday and we know that since Reigns WILL be able to kick this thing's ass he's going to be the biggest babyface in wrestling history. But now what? Should Seth vs. Dean happen quickly now or should it stretch out to WrestleMania? Should Strowman go right back to being a face? In Segment 2 (38:13), it's time to make our picks for WWE Evolution and we're thrilled that Mrs. Foley's Baby Boy's Baby Girl-the awesome Noelle Foley-was able to join us this week. Does Charlotte take back the Smackdown title? If she does, do we riot? Does anyone have the balls to pick Ronda Rousey? Will one of us have to re-create one of Noelle's Instagram pictures? In Segment 3 (1:08:55), we're honored to have the legendary Torrie Wilson return to the show before she participates in the Battle Royal at Evolution Sunday night. We address the fact that she lied to us the last time she was on, then we discuss what it meant to her to participate in the Royal Rumble and why she's mad WWE never let her get thrown into the steel stairs during a bra & panties match. We wrapped the show by discussing the latest in the Crown Jewel/Saudi Arabia saga.

Today we welcome back Alan Fitzpatrick, CEO and Co-Founder of Open Broadband, Co-Founder of Charlotte Hearts Gigabit and NC Hearts Gigabit. For today's podcast, we pick up right where we left off with Alan and jump head first into how he keeps from becoming too excited and too depressed as he rides the ups and downs common to all startups. From there we pick up in some comfortable territory as we discuss: What gets Alan excited about 2018? Huge market, nationwide. What do you look for in terms of customers before you commit to going into an area. The best entrepreneurs aren’t extraordinary risk takers and Why doesn’t Alan go back to the corporate world rather than the startups? Other than raising money what has been the most challenging aspect of 2017 for Open Broadband? How are they approaching employee compensation and stock options? It’s easy to spend money...but it’s hard to generate it. What are the benefits of having a Co-Founder? At what point does Alan start to think about the scaling the company to a national level and/or selling the business? What’s it been like for Alan to see the startup scene in Charlotte grow up since 2011 or 2012? Does Charlotte need Amazon HQ2? Open Broadband is a young company but they are mature founders who have clear vision. As 2018 fast approaches, it will be exciting to see what they accomplish in the next 12 months. Stay tuned....
