It's just Kevin and Lauren this week and they manage to keep it pretty tight with some Squid Game talk, Call me Izzy, Smoke, Baby Girl, and Ironheart. They open the show by discussing the first half of the new season, as Lauren has watched 4 of the episodes and Kevin has only watched 3. The review is definitely favorable and the two make their predictions about the finale, both with differing ides about where it could end up! Next up, Lauren takes us to Broadway with Call Me Izzy. It's a one owman show starring the always incredible Jean Smart. It tackles the tough topic of abuse and is delivered wonderfully in a way that only Jean Smart can do. If you're in the New York area and aren't looking for the most uplifting story, this one is worth catching. Kevin takes us back to the small screen with Smoke, the new series on Apple TV+. It follows 2 arson investigators, played by Taron Eggerton and Jurnee Smollett. They are tracking 2 separate arsonists while dealing with their own issues on the home front. Only the tow episodes have aired so far but it seems to be an excellent investigative series and has a great twist at the end of the second episode. Continuing the recent trend of "we watched it so you don't have to," Lauren watched Babygirl starring Nicole Kidman. It's the tale of a highly successful business woman seduced by a younger man and the messiness that ensues. All in all, it doesn't do much to reinvent the wheel and leaves a lot to be desired, even in the genre of steamy romance. Kevin closes out the show with a review of the first 3 episodes of Ironheart on Disney+. The story of Riri Williams is carried over after Black Panther 2 and is surprisingly very solid so far. This is a character that Kevin did not enjoy in her previous appearance, but he's been impressed with the work done in this outing and he's enjoying it so far, even going as far as calling it one of the better Marvel shows. As always, thank you for watching. If you haven't already, don't forget to Like & Subscribe. We love new viewers! Also, leave us comments and let is know how we are doing and what we can be doing better. Enjoy the episode and have a great week! We begin today's episode by going track-by-track through the latter half of Aaliyah's self-titled album and thank the lawd for that because the rest of this episode is a tough one - we have come to August 25, 2001; the day Aaliyah died. Many listeners requested a deep dive on this rather than an overview, so here we go. I discuss her final days, relationship with Dame Dash, the background on how and why the plane ended up crashing, conspiracy theories, reactions from fans/friends/celebrities, the other people who were on the plane, her funeral, and so much more. This is one of my most heavily researched and time consuming episodes and I hope you feel I handled this difficult topic well. PATREON Subscribers heard this episode completely ad-free! Sabrina Carpenter is back in the headlines with a bold move. After facing online backlash for the original cover of her upcoming album Man's Best Friend—which featured her on all fours with someone pulling her hair—Carpenter has released an alternate “God-approved” version. The new image, featuring her clutching a man's arm and staring confidently into the camera, has sparked a new round of discussion about artistic expression, sexism, and public perception. Is it a PR pivot, satire, or another layer to her album's message? The Jubal Show team dives into the controversy, comparing it to Nicole Kidman’s provocative role in the 2024 film Babygirl and the broader conversation around women owning their sexuality in pop culture. Plus, dad perspectives on how this content plays at home with younger listeners.
Ten years on, 45 Years hasn't lost an ounce of its emotional weight. In fact, it might just cut deeper. On this episode, host and Seventh Row Editor-in-Chief Alex Heeney is joined by Lindsay Pugh (Woman in Revolt) to revisit Andrew Haigh's masterpiece about a childless couple celebrating their 45 the wedding anniversary in the same week that a traumatic secret from the past comes to light. We talk about: What makes this story hit differently as we have aged Why the film's focus on emotional repression, delayed gratification, and public performance feels so radical How Haigh's queer lens shapes his portrayal of a straight relationship What gets added (and deepened) in the move from short story to screenplay Why Charlotte Rampling and Tom Courtenay deliver two of the most nuanced, unforgettable performances of the century How Haigh's blocking — the way actors move through space and interact physically — works hand-in-hand with the dialogue to show us what's shifting beneath the surface, like tension, avoidance, closeness, or control Whether you're watching for the first time or the fifteenth, 45 Years is a film that evolves with you — and we unpack why. Today begins our deep dive into Aaliyah's third album, Aaliyah. Baby Girl once again wanted to walk down a new road with her music, refusing to stay stagnant and rest on her laurels. What resulted was a lush, diverse, mature set of songs that set the tune for the summer of 2001. Eight weeks later, we would lose her, so I really wanted to give her work the flowers it deserves before getting into the plane crash. Former assistant Brendan Paul, who worked for Sean Combs from late 2022 until his arrest in 2024, recalled procuring drugs for Combs from drug dealers known as Guido, One Stop, Baby Girl and Ovi. He referred to hard drugs as "Gucci items," which he would put into a Gucci pouch that Combs kept in a backpack or on his person. A sixth week of testimony concluded with a summary witness, HSI special agent Joseph Cerciello, walking the jury through text messages and other documents. He will return for what will likely be a full day of testimony Monday. Federal prosecutor Maurene Comey said the government expected to rest on Monday. Learn more about your ad choices. Diddy's $150K Gifts to Trafficking Victim - Why She'd Return Every Dollar The Sean "Diddy" Combs federal trial reached a breaking point during June 12-16, 2025, with five earth-shattering moments that could determine whether the hip-hop mogul spends life in prison or walks free. In this comprehensive breakdown, we expose the most crucial testimonies, evidence reveals, and courtroom drama from what legal experts are calling the most pivotal week of the entire trial. Federal prosecutors unveiled devastating evidence including six firearms with defaced serial numbers found near alleged "freak off" supplies at Diddy's Los Angeles mansion. Homeland Security Agent Marc LaMon's testimony revealed AR-15 rifle parts stored alongside lubricants and drugs allegedly used in sex trafficking operations. The defense argued these weapons were properly secured by professional staff, but prosecutors painted a disturbing picture of a criminal enterprise where violence and coercion were always within reach. The week's most emotionally charged moment came when key witness "Jane" concluded six days of harrowing testimony about alleged forced sexual encounters. In an unprecedented courtroom scene, she hugged both prosecutor Maurene Comey and defense attorney Teny Geragos before glaring directly at Combs. Jane testified she would return over $150,000 in gifts and financial support to never participate in what Combs allegedly called "hotel nights" again, revealing the true cost of her alleged victimization. Jonathan Perez, Combs' former personal assistant, delivered immunity testimony that could make or break the prosecution's racketeering case. He detailed procuring cocaine, ketamine, molly, Adderall, and Xanax from dealers nicknamed "Guido" and "Babygirl," presenting text messages showing $700 payments for drugs. However, the defense scored a crucial victory when Perez admitted these activities represented only 1% of his job duties, potentially undermining the government's criminal enterprise theory. The trial took an unexpected turn when Kanye West made a surprise 40-minute courthouse appearance, arriving in a black Mercedes-Maybach wearing all white. Unable to enter the main courtroom, Ye watched proceedings from the overflow room before departing without comment, adding celebrity spectacle to an already high-stakes legal drama. Judge Arun Subramanian's controversial decision to dismiss Juror #6, a Black corrections officer, sparked accusations of racial bias from the defense team. The dismissal over alleged residence deception could provide grounds for appeal if Combs is convicted, highlighting how jury composition issues continue to complicate high-profile cases involving prominent Black defendants. #DiddyTrial #SeanCombs #SexTrafficking #FederalTrial #TrueCrime #JusticeSystem #HipHop #KanyeWest #LegalAnalysis #BreakingNews Want to comment and watch this podcast as a video? These fascinating, complex stories explore women also discovering their secret desires, vulnerabilities and sexual thrills through consensual BDSM kink. The movies are sometimes titillating, sometimes romantic but always thought-provoking in a way that you don't often see on the big screen.CW: sexually explicit scenes, and lots of spoilers.https://www.confessionsofaclosetromantic.comWhewwww. Even if you weren't interested in kink before, aren't you now?!"This is all I ever dreamed about—to be used by you.""While safe kinky play is an excellent forum for navigating and even healing trauma, it's a harmful stereotype to assume that only “broken” people are drawn to kink." Excellent article by a sex educator about what Babygirl gets right—and wrong—about kink."I think the sadomasochistic relationship is a theatrical platform for exploring power dynamics in a relationship, but also you can explore power dynamics with directors and actors...and the fear of performing and putting on a persona which is not you, and being watched." Fascinating glimpse into the creative mind of The Duke of Burgundy writer/director Peter Strickland."Exploring kink, even if you're unsure if you yourself are kinky, can broaden your horizons, enrich your sexual repertoire, and increase tolerance of others..." 1947's Crossfire, directed by Edward Dmytryk, is based on the novel The Brick Foxhole by Richard Brooks. In Brooks' novel, a gay man is murdered by a soldier on leave but the film had to adhere to a Hays Code which didn't allow for depictions of homosexuality so anti-Jewish sentiment became the reason for the killing. Ironically, it was the film's theme of anti-semitism that put it's makers in the crosshairs of Senator Joseph McCarthy's anti-communist HUAC hearings. It's director and writer John Paxton ended in prison for their views. The film stars the Robert dream team of Robert Ryan, Robert Young and Robert Mitchum. Dan and Vicky discuss the noir thriller and lots of recently seen including Babygirl, The Damned, Thunderbolts, Nonnas, Lilo and Stitch, horror classics (!) Nekromantick and Nekromantick 2 and comedian Mateo Lane. Our socials: hotdatepod.com FB: Hot Date Podcast Twitter: @HotDate726 Insta: hotdatepod
After all the fan fare regarding Baby Girl, we decided WE too wanted to a part of it. This 2024 Erotic Thriller stars Nicole Kidman, Antonio Banderas, Harris Dickinson and Sophie Wilde. The cinematography, the acting A+, 10/10. The storyline? Didn't hit the way we thought it would. At the end of the day, he's STILL AN INTERN and YOU'RE STILL HIS BOSS... Like yeah, he's a snack and half. But... perhaps there were better options out there babes.

Send us a textThis episode from a few years ago is one of my most popular, and since life has been kicking my behind lately, I thought it was a good time to take a breather and forget it all by getting kinky. It's also the episode that best represents my growth as a partner, person and podcaster, all thanks to producing and hosting this show. I'm working on a new episode about kink and kinky romance inspired by the Nicole Kidman movie Babygirl, so look for that next time. Meanwhile, hope you enjoy this thoroughly non-NSFW throwback episode about "smutty" and kinky romance. Not only did Bella Hadid make a stunning entrance at the Cannes Film Festival, debuting her new blonde hair and skimming the edge of the “naked” dressing ban, but she's also the cover star of British Vogue's June issue! On this episode of The Run-Through, hosts Chloe and Chioma dive into Bella's stunning cover shot by Steven Meisel and unpack the allure of supermodels on the face of magazines. They also discuss the Knicks fever sweeping New York (especially our favorite floor seat couple Timothée Chalamet and Kylie Jenner); and Chioma's recent meeting with the Princess of Wales during the presentation of The Queen Elizabeth II Award for British Design.Later in the episode, we revisit one of our favorite conversations with actor, director, and writer Harris Dickinson—truly a multi-hyphenate—who joined Chloe and Vogue's Features Editor Marley Marius pegged to his directorial debut, Urchin, premiering at Cannes. Together, they spoke about his unforgettable Met Gala encounter with Nicole Kidman and all things Babygirl. Learn about your ad choices: dovetail.prx.org/ad-choices

Today Ali is talking to Libby Wicks, a surrogacy mama who went through a five-plus year struggle to have her baby girl. Libby talks about her not one, but two ectopic pregnancies, her emergency tube removal, and being diagnosed (wrongly, she would find out much later) with Asherman's Syndrome. She also talks about IVF and how her infertility journey affected her mental health. "I was suffering from anxiety," she says. "There were many days I wasn't able to leave the house. I wasn't able to work, and it was absolutely devastating. I was a shell of myself. And I want other women to know that that is actually normal." Libby talks about pivoting to surrogacy and finding NewGen Families, which is known for their thoughtful matches and their empathetic and expert care when it comes to both surrogates and future parents. She talks about bonding with her surrogate, the group text she had with her husband and her surrogate; and after going through so much heartache, finally bringing home her baby girl. For more, follow them on IG @newgenfamiliesOr go to: https://newgenfamilies.comTOPICS COVERED IN THIS EPISODE: Infertility; TTC; ectopic pregnancies; trauma; IVF; normalizing the conversation around ART; anxiety and depression; Asherman's syndrome; surrogacySupport this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/infertile-af/donationsEPISODE SPONSORS:WORK OF ARTAli's Children's Book about IVF and Assisted Reproductive Technologyhttps://www.infertileafgroup.com/booksDo not miss Ali's children's book about IVF!
