Sep. 1 (1:07 am PDT), until it returns to Aries on Feb. 13, 2026. [7:35] With Saturn in Pisces, the focus returns to spiritual foundations, emotional boundaries, rather than that outer-focused, “let's get it done” quality of Aries. This return of Saturn to Pisces overlaps with eclipse season, which begins at the end of this week with a Full Moon lunar eclipse in Pisces, and the Solar Eclipse at 29 Virgo on September 21, making a close opposition to Saturn in Pisces. [8:51] The Moon squares Saturn (Sep. 1, 6:38 pm PDT) and is then Void-of-Course (VOC) for 6 minutes, when it enters Capricorn (6:44 pm PDT). Use this brief VOC Moon period to get in the habit of being kind to others. [9:45] Interview: Evolutionary Astrologer, Dabney Lawless. OPA and Anne Ortelee were mentioned. [13:19] How does Evolutionary Astrology differ from other approaches to astrology, especially in how it looks at the birth chart? What sets it apart from other schools of astrology? Jeff Wolf Green and Steven Forrest were mentioned. [15:32] The roles of the Nodes and Pluto in Evolutionary Astrology. [21:40] What kind of an experience can a client expect from an Evolutionary Astrology reading? Why would someone choose to have this type of reading? [26:16] What does Pluto bring to an Evolutionary Astrology reading? [32:36] Final thoughts on Evolutionary Astrology. [34:04] Make sure to check out Dabney's website and YouTube channel! [35:11] And that's a wrap for the first day of The Sixth Annual Big Sky Astrology Podathon! A tribute to this week's donors! And be sure to make your donation at BigSkyAstropod.com. Join April tomorrow morning for another Podathon episode, including an interview with Vedic astrologer Kenneth Miller!

In this lead-up week to eclipse season and the first week of Virgo Season, we have plenty of exciting Astrology to cover!Venus, planet of love, beauty, and relationships, enters dramatic, expressive, and committed Leo where she'll remain until September 19th. During her time in Leo she'll make a trine to Saturn, so Venus in Leo can be helpful for forming committed relationships. Saturn re-enters Pisces on September 1st, and while Gemini, Sagittarius, Virgo, and Pisces will feel this the most, this is also super helpful for Jupiter in Cancer. Jupiter has been locked in a difficult square to Saturn since May 2024(!!) and since Saturn has moved out of Aries this lets expansive, helpful Jupiter do its thing without difficult constriction energy from taskmaster Saturn. How does all of this stack up for your sign? This week, Venus enters the glamorous sign of Leeeeeeoooo and makes inspiring aspects to Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune, plus a highly charged opposition to Pluto. Uranus and Neptune connect in their first major aspect since 1993, and the Sagittarius First Quarter Moon focuses on teaching and moving forward into the future. And coming up next week, the 6th Annual Podathon! Plus: Futuristic drawings, things you can't undo, and a little pizazz! Read a full transcript of this episode. Have a question you'd like answered on the show? Email April or leave it here! Subscribe to April's mailing list and get a free lunar workbook at each New Moon! Love the show? Make a donation! Timestamps [2:20] Venus enters Leo on Mon. Aug. 25 (9:27 AM PDT), and will be there through Sep. 19, 2025. It is a sunny, life-affirming position for Venus, but it makes a lot of important aspects this week to heavy planets, bringing some shadows to Leo's sunshine. [3:55] On Mon. Aug. 25 (5:56 PM PDT), Venus trines Saturn at 0º25' Leo-Aries. Saturn tempers Venus in Leo's extravagant tendencies. Acknowledge your responsibility in choosing partners and cultivating relationships. Don't be afraid to ask for help! [6:09] Venus sextiles Uranus (Tue. Aug. 26, 1:58 pm PDT) at 1°25' Leo-Gemini. New ideas appear, especially related to money, values, or relationships. New people may enter the picture and shake you out of your routines. [7:36] Venus trines Neptune (Tue. Aug. 26, 3:18 pm PDT) at 1°29' Leo-Aries. This aspect invites us to see the beauty in others, regard the world with a little more tenderness. Neptune also elevates Venus' creativity with inspiration, even a touch of spirituality. Together, Venus' sextile to Uranus and trine to Neptune remind us that love, beauty, and creativity are best when they open doors to inspiration and into connection with others. [8:49] Venus opposes Pluto (Tue. Aug. 26, 10:54 pm PDT) at 01°51' Leo-Aquarius. Challenges in relationship and finances. Find value in what cannot be taken away. This transit can feel intense but fortunately, it passes quickly. Don't do things that you can't undo. It's only one day, and by tomorrow, things could look quite different. [11:20] Uranus sextiles Neptune (Thu. Aug. 28, 5:14 PM PDT) at 01º26' Gemini- Aries. This is the first of five exact sextiles that they will form to each other between now and June 2027. Uranus' last major aspect to Neptune was a conjunction in 1993, between 18-19° Capricorn (Feb. 2, Aug. 20, Oct. 24, 1993). [13:28] Uranus in Gemini sextile Neptune in Aries, blends inventive thinking with visionary drive. Think outside the box, not just for the sake of novelty, but to serve an inspired vision of the future. This energy is great for breakthroughs in language, technology, art, or activism. If you stay grounded, this transit is powerful for creativity, spirituality, social change and for taking those first steps toward a new world. [15:45] Moon Report! The Sagittarius First Quarter Moon is on Sat. Aug. 30 (11:25 PM PDT) at 08º07' Sagittarius and Virgo. This is our first action point following the Aug. 22 Virgo New Moon (the first of two; the second is on Sep. 21, and is a Solar Eclipse). You don't have to have everything figured out before you begin, just start the journey and trust that the road will open as you go. The Sabian symbol for this First Quarter Moon is 9 Sagittarius, A mother with her children on the stairs. The Sabian symbol for the Sun is 9 Virgo, A man makes a futuristic drawing. [18:16] This is the First Quarter (first action point) in a lunar phase family cycle (LPFC) that began with the New Moon in Sagittarius on Nov. 30, 2024, at 9º32' Sagittarius. The Full Moon (awareness point) of this LPFC will occur on May 31, 2026, at 9º55' Sagittarius, and the Last Quarter phase (last action point) is on Feb. 27, 2027, at 9º22' Sagittarius. [19:46] Void-of-Course (VOC) Moon periods. On Mon. Aug. 25 (6:53 AM PDT), the Moon in Virgo sextiles Venus. It's VOC for only 15 minutes, and then the Moon enters Libra (7:08 AM PDT). Cancer likes comfort food, and Virgo likes efficient and healthy nutrition. This Void-of-Course Moon period begins around breakfast time on the west coast of the United States, so this is a great day to start a new ritual of eating a really delicious and nutritious breakfast. [20:55] On Tue. Aug. 26 (7:06 PM PDT), the Moon in Libra sextiles Mercury. It's VOC for 23 hours and 21 minutes, then enters Scorpio on Wed. Aug. 27 (6:27 PM PDT). Leo gives voice to the desire for balance and equality that the Moon in Libra craves. Create a habit of making decisions by using equal parts mind and heart. [22:06] On Fri. Aug. 29 (5:47 PM PDT), the Moon in Scorpio squares Mercury. It's VOC for 13 hours, 17 minutes, and enters Sagittarius on Sat. Aug. 30 (7:04 AM PDT). If someone gets under your skin during this VOC Moon period, try very hard to keep hurtful feelings to yourself. Funnel your anger into some other enterprise, such as vigorous exercise habits, which can help keep the drama at bay and your body strong. [23:22] There will be a pause on listener questions this week and most likely next week due to the 6th Annual Podathon! They will return the week after the Podathon, though, so by all means, keep those questions flowing! [23:50] If you'd like to have a question answered on a future episode, leave a message of one minute or less at speakpipe.com/bigskyastrologypodcast or email april (at) bigskyastrology (dot) com; put “Podcast Question” in the subject line. Quietmind Astrology — Learn Vedic Astrology with Jeremy Devens
Mentorship starts this Saturday! Learn more and enroll here: https://www.quietmindastrology.com/mentorshipRead Your Big 3 - $47 workshop for free: https://www.quietmindastrology.com/big3I'm Jeremy Devens, and over the last 19 years I've looked at thousands of birth charts. But I still remember the first time I opened one and thought: what is this? You might feel that way too. That's why in this episode of Quietmind Astrology, I'll walk you through how to give your very first Vedic astrology reading—even if you're a total beginner. We'll start with your own chart and focus on the Big Three: the Ascendant, the Sun, and the Moon. These three placements are the foundation of readings, and you don't need to memorize hundreds of things to start interpreting them. I'll show you a step-by-step system that makes astrology less overwhelming and more practical.I've created a workshop to guide you through this. It's normally $47, but you can access it free with the link in the show notes. In just 15 minutes, you'll decode your own Big Three and begin seeing patterns that bring your chart to life.Step One: Read your own chart. The letters are the grahas—the Sun, Moon, and planets plus Rahu and Ketu. The numbers are the zodiac signs, not the houses. The Ascendant shows the body and personality. The Moon shows the mood and emotions. The Sun shows vitality and leadership. Start with keywords. Aquarius rising: unique, eccentric, innovative. Moon in Sagittarius: adventurous, philosophical, fun-loving. Sun in Virgo: a leader who thrives on systems and structure. Simple snapshots you can build on.Step Two: Look at public figures.Practice with celebrities, musicians, leaders. Find their Vedic birth time (Astrosage.com is great). Then decode their Big Three. Pisces Ascendant might look dreamy, intuitive, spiritual. A Capricorn Moon can reveal a stable, practical mindset. This way you see how astrology plays out in real life.Step Three: Give your first reading.Start with an interview reading. Ask open-ended questions about their personality, emotions, and leadership. “What is your personality like?” “What was your relationship with your mother like?” “What inspires you most?” You're not proving anything—you're gathering information and building experience.Once you've listened, try leading questions that sound like predictions but invite confirmation: “Do you like to bring harmony to others?” “Was your mom adventurous?” Over time, you'll see patterns across charts. That's when you can confidently move from questions to statements—and people say, “It's like you're telling me my life story.”This path is clear: first your own Big Three, then public figures, then interview readings. From there, astrology becomes a living system, not just memorization. The more you practice, the more accurate you become.Key ideas from this episode:"You need to experience astrology first (read your own chart) before you try to read others charts"“The Ascendant shows the body, the Moon the mood, and the Sun vitality and leadership.”“Instead of memorizing hundreds of things, use the nesting doll system—grahas, then signs, then houses, then nakshatras.”“Your first reading should be an interview, not a monologue.”–––Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/quietmindastrologyYouTube: https://www.quietmindastrology.com/youtubeMentorship: https://www.quietmindastrology.com/mentorshipYoga Teacher Training Podcast: https://www.anchor.fm/yogateachertrainingKeywords: nakshatras, grahas (planets), rashi (zodiac signs), bhavas (houses), jyotish (astrology), yoga (planetary combinations), doshas (afflictions), kundali (birth chart), transits, retrograde, aspects, dasha system, remedies, mantras, shani, chani, chandra, mangala, Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Virgo, Libra, Scorpio, Sagittarius
Quietmind Astrology — Learn Vedic Astrology with Jeremy Devens
Over the past 19 years, I've studied the astrology of thousands of successful people and found patterns you can apply to your own life. In this episode of Quietmind Astrology, I'm breaking down 10 signs of massive wealth in the birth chart, using the case study of Alex Hormozi—who just had a $100 million book launch this past week.We often look at transits or dashas for timing, but in Alex's case, what stands out are the innate qualities in his chart that he's harnessed through discipline and work. These same qualities may be in your chart as well, and today I'll show you how to recognize and apply them.We don't have his exact birth time, but we know his Moon is in Libra, possibly Chitra nakshatra. Using his Moon chart, we see a striking pattern: an overloaded Upachaya house structure—the 3rd, 6th, 10th, and 11th houses. These houses get stronger with time, and planets placed here bring compounding gains. Alex has multiple placements in these houses, showing why his success has scaled. For example, Saturn in the 3rd gives discipline in communication and marketing. Mars in the 6th points to athleticism and relentless daily effort. His 11th house is stacked with Sun, Mercury, and Ketu, making him a community leader, a powerful communicator, and surprisingly detached from money—a classic Ketu-in-11th trait.Another wealth sign is the fifth–ninth house connection. Rahu in the 5th aspects Venus in the 9th, fueling creativity, content, and teaching—exactly what he's built his empire on. Venus in a dharma house (the 9th) brings prosperity through education and sharing wisdom. Combined with Rahu's drive, this creates an unstoppable force for growth and wealth.Alex's Atmakaraka is Mars in Revati, in the 6th house. This shows his soul's path is about discipline, service, and daily effort. It's why so much of his work emphasizes free value and helping others. His Sun as Darakaraka in the 11th highlights the pivotal role of his wife, Layla, who amplifies his leadership and legacy building. What does this mean for you? If you see similar patterns—like strong Upachaya houses, dhana yogas (2 and 11, or 5 and 9 connections), Venus in a dharma house, Rahu in 5 or 11, or your Atmakaraka in 6, 10, or 11—it shows innate wealth potential. These aren't just about luck; they're qualities you can harness through effort, systems, and awareness. This episode isn't just about Alex's chart—it's about how you can decode your own chart to find your gifts for wealth, career, and success. Whether or not you want to make millions, these placements show where effort compounds, how prosperity grows, and how to align with your strengths.By the end of this episode, you'll understand:– Why Upachaya houses (3, 6, 10, 11) are critical for wealth building– How a strong 11th house brings gains through networks and community– Why Venus in dharma houses often shows prosperity through teaching– How Rahu and Ketu placements shape wealth, detachment, and luck– What Atmakaraka in the 6th, 10th, or 11th reveals about your soul's path to successYour chart has wealth indicators too—it's just about learning how to see and apply them.Free Vedic Birth Chart & 15 Minute Workshop To Decode Your Big 3: http://www.quietmindastrology.com/big3Instagram: http://www.instagram.com/quietmindastrologyYouTube: http://www.quietmindastrology.com/youtubeMentorship: http://www.quietmindastrology.com/mentorshipYoga Teacher Training Podcast: https://www.anchor.fm/yogateachertrainingQuietmind Yoga: https://www.quietmind.yogaKeywords: nakshatras, grahas, rashi, bhavas, jyotish, yoga, doshas, kundali, transits, retrograde, aspects, dasha system, remedies, mantras, shani, chani, chandra, mangala, Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Virgo, Libra, Scorpio, Sagittarius, Capricorn, Aquarius, Pisces, Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn

Not only does it mark the official start of eclipse season, but a powerful square to Uranus in Gemini is an introduction to a chapter of our lives that will play out over the next seven years. Change is on the horizon.Timestamps:♈ Aries — 18:55♉ Taurus — 22:28♊ Gemini — 25:31♋ Cancer — 28:48♌ Leo — 31:49♍ Virgo — 35:19♎ Libra — 38:00♏ Scorpio — 43:10♐ Sagittarius — 47:50♑ Capricorn — 52:14♒ Aquarius — 55:09♓ Pisces —58:59Read More:Workshop: The Eclipses of September 2025https://empoweringastrology.com/workshop-the-eclipses-of-september-2025/Interview with Teresa Biggs: Your Cyclical Nature Podcasthttps://open.spotify.com/episode/7oPwlXt4YvPnHiHHodAa4H?si=ba77aa85b18d4a93Mars in Libra: Sign by Signhttps://empoweringastrology.com/mars-in-libra-sign-by-sign/Jupiter in Cancer: Sign by Signhttps://empoweringastrology.com/jupiter-in-cancer-sign-by-signUranus in Gemini: Radical Ideashttps://empoweringastrology.com/uranus-in-gemini-radical-ideas-what-does-it-meanUranus in Gemini: Sign by Signhttps://empoweringastrology.com/uranus-in-gemini-sign-by-sign/Neptune in Aries: A New Dawnhttps://empoweringastrology.com/neptune-in-aries-a-new-dawn-what-does-neptune-in-aries-mean/Neptune in Aries: Sign by Signhttps://empoweringastrology.com/neptune-in-aries-sign-by-sign/Pluto in Aquarius: Transforming Humanityhttps://empoweringastrology.com/pluto-in-aquarius-transforming-humanity-2023-2044-what-will-it-mean/Pluto in Aquarius: Sign by Signhttps://empoweringastrology.com/pluto-in-aquarius-what-does-it-mean-for-my-zodiac-sign/Subscribe to My Mailing Listhttp://eepurl.com/gwPi_zAstrology Webinars and Courseshttps://empoweringastrology.freshlearn.com/Book Your Consultationhttps://empoweringastrology.as.me/#eclipseseason #virgonewmoon #uranusingemini #virgoseason #leoseason #suninleo #elementfire #august2025astrology #augustastrology #empoweringastrology #katiesweetman #astrologyplusconsciousness #holisticastrology #astrologyforecast #soulalchemy #thesoulsjourney #modernmystics #astrology #astrologie #astrologia #astrolog #astrologersofinstagram #horoscope #horoscopes #astrologyposts #dailyhoroscope #dailyastrology #weeklyastrology #weeklyhoroscopes

Take the free quiz at https://www.quietmindastrology.com/levels Learning astrology can feel super complicated and overwhelming—but it really doesn't have to be. Over the years, through my own journey and teaching hundreds of students, I've seen that there are five clear levels of learning astrology. Once you know where you are on the path, it becomes so much easier to know your next step.In this episode of the Quietmind Astrology Podcast, I walk you through these five levels—from the “Insta Astrologer,” who scrolls TikTok memes, to the experienced astrologer who can read any chart on the spot with accuracy and insight. You'll hear how I personally moved from Western astrology into Vedic astrology, why I follow the sidereal system, and how my mentors helped me turn confusion into clarity. I'll also share how you can use your own chart (and charts of people close to you) to deepen your skills and start moving toward giving accurate, embodied, and inspiring readings.I've created a free assessment at quietmindastrology.com/levels so you can see exactly what level you're at right now and what your next step is. And if you're ready for the full in-depth training, check out the Become Your Own Astrologer workshop at quietmindastrology.com/workshop.Highlights:Level one is what I call the Insta astrologer. You might see funny memes on Instagram or TikTok and know your sun sign, but that's just scratching the surface. It's like having an iPhone and only using it to check the weather. When you get to level two, you become the astrology friend. You're the one people go to when Mercury goes retrograde or an eclipse happens, and you can explain what's going on in the sky.Level three is the hobby astrologer. You're reading books, pulling up charts, maybe even doing free readings, but you don't always feel confident yet. This is where imposter syndrome often shows up.Level four is the astrology practitioner. You're reading charts regularly, maybe asking for donations, and people are giving you honest feedback that helps you grow.Level five is the experienced astrologer: accurate, embodied, intuitive, observant, and uplifting. You can look at any chart like you'd read a book, and you know how to find the potential in every placement.By the end of this episode, you'll know which level you're at, what pitfalls to avoid, and how to move forward with a clear path. Whether you just want to understand your own chart better or you feel called to give readings for others, this framework will guide you.Check out the links below to get your free chart, assessment, and the Become Your Own Astrologer workshop for the full step-by-step process.—Free Vedic Birth Chart & Training: http://www.quietmindastrology.com/freebirthchartInstagram:http://www.instagram.com/quietmindastrologyYouTube:http://www.quietmindastrology.com/youtubeMentorship: http://www.quietmindastrology.com/mentorshipYoga Teacher Training Podcast: https://www.anchor.fm/yogateachertrainingQuietmind Yoga: https://www.quietmind.yogaKeywords: nakshatras, grahas (planets), rashi (zodiac signs), bhavas (houses), jyotish (astrology), yoga (planetary combinations), doshas (afflictions), kundali (birth chart), transits, retrograde, aspects, dasha system, remedies, mantras, shani, chani, chandra, mangala, Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Virgo, Libra, Scorpio, Sagittarius, Capricorn, Aquarius, Pisces, Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn

RSVP for the free live workshop this Thursday: Become Your Own Astrologerhttps://www.quietmindastrology.com/workshopIf you've ever lost your phone, you know the information on it is incredibly valuable — but without the code to unlock it, it's useless. Your birth chart is the same way. You can have your chart in front of you, but without knowing how to decode it, you won't be able to unlock its insights. In this episode, I'm sharing the simplest and most powerful way to start reading your birth chart: by focusing on the “Big Three” — your ascendant, your moon, and your sun — plus one bonus factor that can be just as influential. We'll go step-by-step through what each of these tells you, why they're essential, and how to put them together for a clear and accurate first reading.I use Beyoncé's chart as a real-life example now that we have her accurate birth time from her biography: September 4, 1981, 21:47 in Houston, Texas. She has Aries Rising (Ashwini Nakshatra), Moon in Scorpio (Vishaka), and Sun in Leo — three powerful placements that each reveal different aspects of her personality, leadership style, and emotional world. On top of that, she has five placements in Virgo, showing how an abundance of planets in one sign can shape someone's life as much as, or even more than, the Big Three.I also share simple tips for decoding sign energies — from the initiating leadership of Aries, to the intensity and mystery of Scorpio, to the regal authority of Leo — and why learning the symbols of the zodiac can take you far in your studies. You'll hear about the strengths and challenges of each, plus how Beyoncé's Virgo stellium shows up in her perfectionism, discipline, and attention to detail in her performances. This is your foundation for everything else in astrology — nakshatras, planetary rulerships, divisional charts — it all builds from understanding your Big Three. I'll be diving deeper into these tools in my Become Your Own Astrologer workshop, all-new for 2025, with a fully updated 50+ page workbook to guide you. Whether you're brand new to astrology or you've been studying for years, this episode will help you sharpen your skills, return to the essentials, and see your chart in a whole new way.Key ideas from the episode:The ascendant (rising sign) shapes the houses and is the foundation of any chart readingThe moon sign reveals your mind, emotions, and relationship with the motherThe sun sign shows where you shine, your leadership, and paternal influencesThree or more planets in one sign can be as influential as the Big ThreeLearning the zodiac symbols is a quick way to start understanding sign energiesInstagram:http://www.instagram.com/quietmindastrologyYouTube:http://www.quietmindastrology.com/youtubeMentorship: http://www.quietmindastrology.com/mentorshipYoga Teacher Training Podcast: https://www.anchor.fm/yogateachertrainingQuietmind Yoga:https://www.quietmind.yogaKeywords: nakshatras, grahas (planets), rashi (zodiac signs), bhavas (houses), jyotish (astrology), yoga (planetary combinations), doshas (afflictions), kundali (birth chart), transits, retrograde, aspects, dasha system, remedies, mantras, shani, chani, chandra, mangala, Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Virgo, Libra, Scorpio, Sagittarius, Capricorn, Aquarius, Pisces, Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn

Aug. 6, 4:23 PM PDT, through Sep. 22, 2025), which is not exactly its favorite sign. The themes of Mars in Libra are about balancing action with ideals and making sure that what you do reflects what you believe, especially when it comes to fairness, justice, or the people that you care about. [3:38] Mars trines Uranus (Fri. Aug. 8, 11:45 AM PDT) at 1º07' Libra-Gemini. This combination can spark breakthroughs, but also impulsiveness and recklessness. Assert yourself, but be cautious. [5:45] On Fri. Aug. 8 (7:52 PM PDT), Mars opposes Saturn at 1°20' Libra-Aries. This can bring resistance, but don't give up. Use this aspect to take one small strategic action that can help move you forward. [8:20] Moon Report! The Aquarius Full Moon is on Sat. Aug. 9 (12:55 AM PDT), 16º59' Aquarius-Leo. Ask yourself how you can influence the world in a meaningful way. Gather with those who share your ideals to further your Leo New Moon creative goals. The Sabian symbol for this Full Moon is 17 Aquarius: A watchdog standing guard, and the Sun is on the symbol 17 Leo, A non-vested church choir. Find your people, raise your voice, and shape the future together. [12:09] Lunar Phase Family Cycle (LPFC). This is the Full Moon (awareness point) in an LPFC that began with the New Moon on Feb. 9, 2024, at 20º40' Aquarius. The First Quarter Moon (first action point) of this LPFC was on Nov. 8, 2024, at 17º19' Aquarius. The Last Quarter Moon (final action point) is on May 9, 2026, at 19º14' Aquarius. [13:52] Void-of-Course (VOC) Moon periods. On Tue, Aug. 5 (8:29 AM PDT), the Moon in Sagittarius squares Mars in Virgo. It's VOC for 1 hour 35 minutes, then enters Capricorn (10:04 AM PDT). Get in the habit of thinking before you speak. [15:27] On Wed. Aug. 6 (10:40 AM PDT), the Moon in Capricorn opposes Jupiter in Cancer. The Moon will be VOC for 1 day, 7 hours, and 38 minutes (!!!) before it enters Aquarius on Aug. 7 (6:18 PM PDT). During this VOC Moon period, monitor how you cope when things get difficult. Are there more effective tactics you could use? [17:28] On Sat. Aug. 9 (12:55 AM PDT), the Moon in Aquarius opposes the Sun in Leo. It's VOC for 22 hours 55 minutes (!!!), then enters Pisces (11:50 PM PDT). Evaluate what you want versus what society wants. Consider how your desires and needs can affect the others around you and also help you clarify what you want. [18:49] Mars opposes Neptune (Sat. Aug. 9, 3:13 PM PDT) at 1°50' Libra- Aries. Slow down, soften your approach, and consider how to use Mars energy on behalf of others. Bring spiritual and artistic influences into daily routines. Practice flexibility; get rest, reflect, and connect. Think less about what you can achieve and more about what you can contribute. [21:35] On Sun. Aug. 10 (5:29 AM PDT), Mars trines Pluto at 2º12' Libra-Aquarius. This is a powerful aspect for pushing through limits, especially in the areas of partnership, justice and progress. But if your efforts don't seem to make a difference, resist the temptation to just give up. What matters most is how you handle your weakness, your anger, and your frustration. [24:09] Listener Emily asks about the Mars Return. A small star with a planetary companion appears to be making a high-speed exit from the center of the Milky Way – perhaps fast enough to escape the galaxy entirely. The system is more than 24,000 light-years away, in Sagittarius. It appears to contain a red-dwarf star – a cool, faint ember about 20 percent the mass of the Sun. It’s accompanied by a “super-Neptune” – a planet about 30 times the mass of Earth. They’re separated by less than the distance from Earth to the Sun. What makes the system especially interesting is its high speed – at least 1.2 million miles per hour. That’s not fast enough to leave the Milky Way behind. But it could be moving a good bit faster. The system might have started as a member of a binary – two stars bound by gravity. The stars passed too close to the monster black hole in the galaxy’s heart. The black hole grabbed the other star, and gave the escapee a giant kick. On the other hand, the kick could have come from an encounter with a smaller black hole in the Milky Way’s crowded center. How the star maintained its grip on the planet is a key question. But the planet must have been in a tight orbit to avoid being yanked away. Researchers were scheduled to take some follow-up observations this month. That might reveal whether the system really is a star and planet on a high-speed ride through the galaxy. We’ll talk about another possible escapee tomorrow. Script by Damond Benningfield

The supermassive black hole at the heart of the Milky Way is never quiet – it’s constantly popping off. The black hole is more than four million times the mass of the Sun. It grabs passing gas clouds, asteroids, and other objects. It also sponges up gas from the “winds” produced by nearby stars. This forms a swirling disk around the black hole. As material spirals inward, it gets extremely hot. Astronomers watched the black hole with James Webb Space Telescope. They found that it produces several bright outbursts every day, with each one lasting an hour or longer. Between these outbursts there were fainter flares that usually lasted less than a minute. The flares may have different causes. Shorter flares may be caused by turbulence in the disk, which squeezes and heats pockets of gas. Particles bounce around inside these pockets, heating up and producing outbursts of energy. The longer flares may explode when magnetic fields twist together, then snap. That produces big outbursts of particles and energy like the giant flares on the Sun. The astronomers hope to take an even longer look at the system, helping them learn more about the constant flare-ups from the Milky Way’s monster black hole. The black hole is in Sagittarius. The constellation is in the south on summer evenings, and forms the outline of a teapot. The black hole is immersed in the “steam” above the spout – 26,000 light-years away. This week the biggest players in the astrology are, Gemini, Virgo, Leo, Aquarius, Taurus, Scorpio, Cancer, and Sagittarius placements. If you want to know the general energy of the collective, this episode is for you too!
Sagittarius marks the center of our home galaxy, the Milky Way. So the constellation is packed with stars, star clouds, and star clusters. But one of the clusters doesn’t belong to the Milky Way at all – at least not yet. It’s in a small, puffy galaxy on the far edge of the Milky Way’s disk. Messier 54 is a globular cluster – a ball-shaped region about 150 light-years across, packed with hundreds of thousands of stars. Native globulars are among the Milky Way’s oldest residents – they were born with the galaxy itself. But a few of the clusters were born in other galaxies, then absorbed when their home galaxies were absorbed by the Milky Way. For a long time, astronomers thought that M54 was a charter member of the Milky Way – one of its early globular clusters. A couple of decades ago, though, they found that it’s near the center of a newly discovered galaxy, the Sagittarius Dwarf. That puts it outside the Milky Way’s disk. But the Milky Way is pulling the smaller galaxy in. Eventually, it will incorporate all of the galaxy’s stars. So M54 will become a member of the Milky Way – one of its newest residents – and one of its oldest. Sagittarius scoots low across the south on summer nights. It looks like the outline of a teapot. M54 is at the lower left corner of the teapot, but you need a telescope to see it. Script by Damond Benningfield
