We roll into our 80s hard rock showdown, where we put ACDC's Back in Black, Van Halen's 1984, and Guns N' Roses' Appetite for Destruction under the brightest light we know: track-by-track comparison. Jump meets It's So Easy; Panama squares off with Nightrain; Hot for Teacher tangles with Paradise City. The fun isn't just the score—it's how those matchups rewire your nostalgia. From there, we zoom in on live recordings that changed how we hear legends: Elton John's 1970 trio storm on 17-11-70, and The Doors' final Jim Morrison concert, a difficult night for him by all accounts, that closes on the aptly chosen "The End."Minute with Jimmy unwraps the shockingly modern birth of Little Richard's Tutti Frutti—those opening syllables were a drum part first—and why 1955 still sounds like tomorrow. We close on the Jim Carroll Band's People Who Died, a song that once felt like pure punk adrenaline and now reads like a roll call of lives that shaped us. If you love rock history, live albums, and the way songs become landmarks, you'll feel right at home.Learn Something New orRemember Something OldIf you enjoyed the show, follow, rate, and share it with a friend. MUSICRoger Daltrey of The Who is now SIR Roger Daltrey. He was knighted by Prince William at Windsor Castle on Wednesday. It's in recognition of not only his musical achievements, but also his charity work. Here he is on the award, and what his younger self and band would've thought back in the day. https://consequence.net/2025/12/sir-roger-daltrey-knighted/ Sharon Osbourne has given her first interview since the death of her husband Ozzy this past July.Appearing Wednesday on the British TV show Piers Morgan Uncensored, hosted by her longtime friend, she opened up about his health struggles, doing his final show this past July 5th in Birmingham, England, their last conversations and much more. You can watch the show on YouTube, and here are a few excerpts:Sharon Osbourne on the last two weeks of Ozzy's life. OC:...in seven years. :27 [Courtesy of Piers Morgan Uncensored]"He was so happy Piers afterwards. And he kept looking at the papers and he goes to me, 'I never knew so many people like me.' But that was the way he was. I mean, he knew he was famous, but not to the amount that people loved him. It's a whole different thing. And he was just so happy. Happier than we'd seen him in seven years."Sharon Osbourne on dreams Ozzy was having the last week of his life. OC:...he was ready. :26 [Courtesy of Piers Morgan Uncensored]"He was having dreams the last week of his life. He was seeing people that he never knew. I said, 'Well, what kind of people?' He goes, 'All different people. And I just keep walking and walking and I'm seeing all these different people every night. And I go back there and I'm looking at these people and they're looking at me and nobody's talking.' And he he knew. He was ready." Sharon also talked about the first time she and Ozzy met, when they fell in love, how she will never want to get married again, how if she didn't have kids she would have killed herself when he died, and the thing she misses most is holding his hand.On a lighter note, she also talked about how she wanted to get back at Roger Waters for the negative things he said about Ozzy after he died. And that was by sending him a Tiffany box filled with feces, which she used to do to critics who wrote negative reviews about Ozzy's shows without being there. When she did, it was her infant son Jack's poop that would be used. She ultimately decided against it, saying, “Even that is a waste, to send [crap] to him. It's a waste because he's really insignificant. But I just thought, anybody that passes has a family… you don't do that.” (Sharon's not the first musician's wife to do that. Paul and Linda McCartney sent some of their daughter Stella's poop to a journalist who earned their trust, then betrayed them.)Going forward, Sharon says she's continuing to work on an Ozzy bio-pic and that she knows who she wants to play him. When asked if it was Yunglbud she didn't confirm nor deny.https://youtu.be/aaLMsEJKZEQ Kurt Cobain's MTV Unplugged Martin D-18E has been donated to the Royal College of Music London by Peter Freedman, who paid $6,010,000 for it at an auction in 2020. But there are plenty of other films that spark the same argument, "Is this actually a Christmas movie?" Here are 13 more:1. Every "Harry Potter" movie (2001 - 2011). All the "Potter" flicks . . . with the possible exception of the last one . . . have some kind of yuletide vibe . . . or at least a wintry one.2. "Batman Returns" (1992). One of the big set pieces is the lighting of the Gotham Christmas tree.3. "Eyes Wide Shut" (1999). Even though it was released in July, it takes place over Christmas.4. "Gremlins" (1984). This one has Christmas written all over it. And also little green, murderous demons.5. "First Blood" (1982). The first of the "Rambo" films has a Christmas tree in the background of one scene. So . . . Christmas movie!!!6. "Trading Places" (1983). There's a Christmas party, and Dan Aykroyd as a drunken Santa waving a handgun. But it doesn't end on December 25th. If it's a Christmas movie, then it also qualifies as a New Year's movie.7. "Kiss Kiss Bang Bang" (2005). This one takes place during the Christmas season in L.A. And it was released in November.8. "Edward Scissorhands" (1990). Kind of a no-brainer.9. "Lethal Weapon" (1987). Another one of those action movies that HAPPENS to take place around Christmas.10. "Rocky" (1976). This might be the greatest American holiday film of all time, because it includes Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's. And also punching.11. "Hook" (1991). The scenes in the real world, outside Neverland, are set at Christmas. 12. "Iron Man 3" (2013). The whole movie plays out around Christmas.13. "The Nightmare Before Christmas" (1993). In Episode 1,115 of The Clay Edwards Show, host Clay Edwards kicks off with his signature unfiltered take on current events, diving into political satire with a spotlight on Congresswoman Jasmine Crockett's Senate run in Texas. Clay roasts her latest gaffes, plays cringe-worthy clips (including a rapper's awkward endorsement and Donald Trump's jabs), and calls out what he sees as Democratic hypocrisy—from Crockett's comments on Latino voters to broader cultural critiques. The show shifts gears to lighter fare: Clay shares personal stories from his '80s concert days (Motley Crue, Poison, and Guns N' Roses nostalgia), pitches advertising spots for local businesses like plumbers and divorce attorneys, and reflects on the show's upcoming 5-year anniversary on WYAB. Food talk takes center stage with a fun debate on the best blue plate lunches, coleslaw, biscuits, and rolls—shout outs to spots like McB's (fried pork chops) and Martin's (meatloaf). Local highlights include events at Cypress Point Resort (Breakfast and Safari with Santa), good news about two criminals dying in jail, and a jaw-dropping $3,500/night Ole Miss condo rental for the Tulane game. Clay teases his personal testimony, plugs sponsors like Men's Health Mississippi and Shelter Insurance, and previews Ole Miss football's playoff chances. Tune in for raw talk radio: politics, laughs, local vibes, and no sugarcoating. Live from the Men's Health and Women's Wellness of Mississippi Studios on 103.9 WYAB.

The Jay Franze Show: Your backstage pass to the entertainment industry
A list can be a time machine. We kick off by diving into 35 Southern rock songs that didn't just top bar jukeboxes—they built a genre's backbone. Skynyrd, The Allman Brothers, ZZ Top, 38 Special, and more set the rules on groove, grit, and guitar heroics, and we ask the hard question: who shaped the sound versus who reflected it back? That sparks a bigger conversation about authenticity and the future of music as an AI-generated act climbs a country chart. Are we celebrating craft or sidelining it? We draw clear lines—AI is a powerful tool for arrangements, virtual players, and sonic polish, but the human heart should stay at the center for lyrics and lead vocals. Think drum machines and MIDI as useful tools, not replacements. Maybe it's time for new categories—Produced With AI or Best AI-Directed Track—so innovation and integrity can coexist. We also run a listener-fueled bracket to crown the best debut album. Expect fireworks as Taylor Swift, Carrie Underwood, Chris Stapleton, Van Halen, Guns N' Roses, Alanis Morissette, and Boston square off. The final verdict celebrates a debut that fused tone, engineering genius, and melody into a once-in-a-generation statement. Between segments, we spotlight CMA milestones, a nostalgic holiday collab with a modern twist, and a fresh wave of tours worth bookmarking.Your mailbag powers the craft deep dive: the loudness war and why streaming normalization brings back dynamics, how modern records get built across big studios and home rigs, and the most common rookie mistake (spoiler: it's not a bad mic). We make space for strong takes, small details, and the stuff that actually helps artists grow. If you care about songs that breathe, vocals that risk something, and communities that talk back, you'll feel right at home.Episode LinksAI Experiment: https://jayfranze.com/experiment/Scotty Simpson: https://jayfranze.com/episode3/Jim Cristaldi: https://jayfranze.com/episode27/Billie Jo Jones: https://jayfranze.com/episode98/Dalila Mya: https://jayfranze.com/episode102/Mark Badolato: Send us a text Support the showLinks Jay Franze: https://jayfranze.com/ JFS Country Countdown: https://jayfranze.com/countdown/ Contact Contact: https://jayfranze.com/contact/ Socials Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/jayfranze TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@jayfranze X: https://x.com/jayfranze YouTube: https://youtube.com/@jayfranze Services Services: https://jayfranze.com/services/ Books Books: https://jayfranze.com/books/ Merchandise Merchandise: https://jayfranze.com/merchandise/ Support Support: https://jayfranze.com/support/ Sponsor the Show: https://jayfranze.com/sponsor/

The Royal We by Roddy Bottum of Fate No More https://www.amazon.com/Royal-We-Roddy-Bottum/dp/1636142699 A founder of the iconic band Faith No More shares his coming-of-age and out-of-the-closet story in pre–tech boom San Francisco THE ROYAL WE is a poetic survey of a time set in a magical city that once was and is no more. It is a memoir written by Roddy Bottum, a musician and artist, that documents his coming of age and out of the closet in 1980s San Francisco, a charged era of bicycle messengers, punk rock, street witches, wheatgrass, and rebellion. The book follows his travels from Los Angeles, growing up gay with no role models, to San Francisco, where he formed Faith No More and went on to tour the world relentlessly, surviving heroin addiction and the plight of AIDS, to become a queer icon. The book is an elevated wallop of tongue and insight, much more than a tell-all. There are personal encounters with public figures like Kurt and Courtney and Guns N' Roses, and recaps of gold records and arena rock―but it's the testimonies of tragedy and addiction and preposterous life-spins that make this work so unique and intriguing. Bottum writes about his dark and harrowing past in a clear-eyed voice that is utterly devoid of self-pity, and his emboldened and confident pronouncements of achievement and unorthodox heroism flow in an unstoppable train that's both captivating and inspirational.

Today's comedy show fires up with a foggy-brain Monday and only gets weirder from there. The crew dives straight into Invisalign pain, classic rock childhoods, and one of the most uncomfortable “man-to-man” confrontations ever witnessed at a rock concert—yes, complete with a territorial son, a shoulder-rubbed mom, and a threatened fistfight over absolutely nothing. Welcome to the holidays.Rafe recounts in disturbing detail how a grown man threatened to throw hands at him because he called someone's mother beautiful—apparently a crime in some households. Lern talks epic velvet-pants rock-god energy at her Clapton Chronicles gig. Moon shares how he spent childhood listening to exactly zero music because his parents apparently believed in silence as a lifestyle. And Rizz? He just wants people to leave his house on time and stop pretending gift-giving is fun. Then we roll into dead-body calls to radio stations, airline rankings, holiday travel chaos, dumbed-down TV, Code Red data breaches, lost luggage stories, and an extended philosophical meltdown about whether adults should opt out of Christmas gifts entirely.Comedian Greg Warren stops by to talk about the best snack cakes, his upcoming stand up comedy shows at The Funny Bone, an appearance on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon on December 15, and his comedy podcast, The Consumers.Plus a massive concert announcement: Guns N' Roses coming to Busch Stadium on August 16—and yes, Rizz is already requesting the day off. This episode is chaos, comedy, and a surprising level of group therapy all wrapped up in a funny podcast.
