It's Monday, April 3rd, 2023 and welcome to the April edition of Hills Review -- the High School East Student Podcast. When you ask many people what they think about people who suffer from depression, anxiety, and other mental health disorders, the most common response is that it's "all in their head" or that they need to "toughen up." On Tuesday, Asiya Hasanoff discusses why it is so important to change this view and to seriously address mental health issues. What is the life of a musician really like? This Wednesday, Jasmine Foster talks with Stephanie Alvarenga – a vocal coach, piano instructor, songwriter, arranger, singer, and conductor who has dedicated her life to making and teaching music. While practice, talent, and hard work certainly help athletes get better, there are other – more unusual things – that can help student athletes succeed. This Thursday, Rachel Neuman talks to High School East athletes and coaches about some of the superstitions that help make the difference between winning and losing. The start time of school is ridiculous. Starting class so early causes sleep deprivation and can lead to exhaustion and a decline in grades. This Friday, Nathan Glick, Jack Simon, Saul Adum traveled the halls to see if students and teachers think the school start time is fair. Hills Review is produced by members of the Podcasting and Filmmaking Club. If you are interested in becoming a contributor, see Mr. Beatty in room 216. If you like this podcast – please tell one friend about it. Word of mouth is the best way to get more people listening to our show. Thanks for listening and have a great week.

For the final podcast of 2020, I'm very pleased to announce the return of my good friend Krowne. Gary Crowne aka Krowne is an electronica, hip-hop and techno DJ, producer and promoter from Edinburgh who’s been releasing music since 2010 under the aliases Krowne and Ghost By Nature, he was a core artist within the Black Lantern Music Collective and one half of duo Kromatic with Asthmatic Astronaut. Krowne is label boss at Precog Records, running it along with his brother Alan Crowne who is the Art Director for the label. Things really started to take off for Krowne when he won the Orbital ‘Wonky” Beatport remix competition in 2011. Over the following years he’s had a multitude of renowned releases on labels including Beat Machine Records, BLM and GTA Digital, putting out everything from techno, house, hip hop, electronica, breaks to sci-fi crunk ……….. even original soundtracks. He’s worked with wicked remixers including Ast Ast, G. Kemp, Gary the Apprentice and Coffee & Blood and his hip hop output has seen him working with MCs the world over including Questionmark Embargo, Harlequinade and Texture. Everything he puts out reaches stratospheric heights with each release getting over 20,000 downloads or more. He’s had many of his tracks played on respected radio stations and Kromatic have even played live on BBC Radio 1. In 2013, ably assisted by Jack Simon, Rendezyvoodoo and Strut, he formed Edinburgh techno club night Fourbyfour. The night rapidly took off, show casing guests like Hermanez, Phil Kieran and Ramiro Lopez. Lately Fourbyfour launched a sister night called Fourplay which ventures into the realms of hip hop, funk and a more open minded music policy……..  another successful venture. He’s also a freelance sound designer, film and commercials music producer and sound editor. He’s also involved with 3D logo sound design, creating music for BBCs The Social and making several of his own music videos. Krowne has many more releases in the pipeline building on the previous successes of his multi genre skills. Along with running his successful club nights and a multitude of other side projects, he’s not short on work. He’s got so much musical experience to give to the masses. No matter what this guy concentrates his skills on, it always comes up gold. In Episode 78 of the Mr. Wine Guy Podcast I had the privilege of sitting down with my wife Jennifer Gallagher as we shared our thoughts on the 2018 Picardan White Wine by Jack Simon Vineyards out of the San Diego County of Southern CA by Winemaker, Ryan Scott. This segment was previously known as my "After Party Pick Of The Week" but after a conversation between Jennifer and I we decided to change the name to "Wine Night Stand, Where Anything Goes." I used to promote Wine Night Stand's when I originally came up with the concept for my Pick of the Week but the meaning behind the name is to love and appreciate wines in the company of family and friends with no strings attached, and no reservations.  This is exactly what you can come to expect in these epsiodes as I'm sure you're already aware if you've tuned in!  These epsiodes are completely off the cuff and full of so much energy and personality and it should come as no surprise that we've already had a little wine at this point. If you ever have a quesion about wine, or one that pertains to this feature, simply jump on LIVE every Monday evening at 6 o'clock, PST and we'll go over your question during the podcast.  You can also submit questions ahead of time through Instaram DM. In this episode Ryan shares his personal journey throughout the wine industry and how prior experiences at Witchcreek Winery and Carruth Cellars really propelled him to the level of success that he's achieved today. With that being said, Ryan shares his experiences at Jack Simon Vineyards, what the Diskin family, owners of Jack Simon not only mean to him but also the surrounding community, and what it means to focus of Rhone and Iberian varietals while making wine for this brand. Ryan shares the story of Jack Diskin, owner of Jack Simon Vineyards and just how charasmatic and impactful of a human being Jack is and how Jack's story is such a statement and testament of what being a leader and role model really is. Ryan also shares the story of his interview with FOX5 San Diego and how he single handedly managed to open a bottle of wine on set without the use of a cork screw.  This story is one that you are not going to want to miss! These are just a few of the things you're going to get to hear in this podcast but I think the one thing you'll appreciate more than anything is Ryan's humble personality, his ability to be an effective leader, and his appreciation for everyone who has been an intrical part in getting him to where he is today.   So sit back, relax, and get ready, because you are going to love this episode.
