Trots all uppståndelse tycks Lauryn Hill avspänd. Exekutiv producent Axel Winqvist. Tekniker är Fredrik Nilsson. P3 Musikdokumentär görs av Tredje Statsmakten Media. Ljudklippen i dokumentären kommer från podden Dissect, 1999 Grammy Awards, Live at the Apollo Amature Night 1987, Its Showtime at the Apollo 1996, filmen En värsting till syster 2, dokumentärfilmen Concerning Violence, MTV Unplugged No. 2.0 med Lauryn Hill, instagramkontot selahmarley, Fox5, samt youtubekontona Time, Vlad-TV, Mike Willis, Before they were famous och Real Reality Gossip.

It's not uncommon to feel powerless over your health. This might be because modern lifestyles often drive our eating habits. Today's guest took control of her health by changing her eating patterns with intermittent fasting.  Cynthia Thurlow is a globally recognized expert in nutrition and intermittent fasting. She is a highly sought after speaker and CEO and founder of Everyday Wellness Project. Cynthia has been a nurse practitioner for over 20 years. Her TED Talk on intermittent fasting has been viewed nearly 6 million times. She has been featured on ABC, FOX5, KTLA, CW, and in Medium and Entrepreneur. She's also the host of the Everyday Wellness podcast, which was listed as "20 Podcasts That Will Help You Grow in 2020" by Entrepreneur magazine.  Cynthia was skeptical of intermittent fasting at first. But the more she learned about this healthy eating pattern, the more she realized its power to optimize your health. Modern lifestyles have drastically changed the way we eat. However, for the great majority of human history, intermittent fasting was how we got nutrition. Returning to this process is a return to fueling our bodies the way they were meant to be. Properly combining intermittent fasting with exercise is a powerful and safe weight-loss strategy. Cynthia explains how exercising on an empty stomach not only leads to weight loss but more energy and mental clarity as well. It also promotes autophagy, the body's process of cleaning out damaged cells. This leads to healthier cellular health and many other benefits. Overall, the strategy of intermittent fasting is about taking control. It's going to look different for everyone. While this may seem like a big change, it can still fit your schedule, diet, and lifestyle.  Have you tried intermittent fasting? Tell me about it in the comments on the episode page!   My Your Longevity Blueprint course is currently 50% off to celebrate the launch of the podcast PLUS I'm throwing in a free personalized consultation!     In this episode What intermittent fasting actually means Fasting's role in promoting good cellular health The best foods to eat when breaking your fast The best times to exercise while fasting Helpful supplements to take to support nutrition If intermittent fasting should be used over the long term   Quotes “Fasting for many people becomes not only a physical but also an emotional and spiritual process.” [9:26] “Once your body is efficient with using fat as a primary fuel source, you have so much mental clarity and so much energy.” [12:04]  “Our bodies are designed to adapt so over time we don't want to be rigid with our eating windows. We do better when we're flexible.” [24:50] “The most important thing is sleep. It's foundational to our health.” [44:35]   Resources Find Cynthia Thurlow online Follow Cynthia on Instagram | Twitter | Facebook Free Gift: Anti-inflammatory Ebook Register for the Intermittent Fasting Masterclass Vital Proteins Check out the full show notes for this episode here Get your copy of the Your Longevity Blueprint book and claim your bonuses here Find Dr. Stephanie Gray and Your Longevity Blueprint online    Follow Dr. Stephanie Gray on Facebook | Instagram | Youtube | Twitter | LinkedIn Integrative Health and Hormone Clinic Podcast Production by the team at Counterweight Creative

A month before the second TEDx Talk, Cynthia was sent off for an emergency CAT scan which revealed that her appendix had ruptured. Unfortunately, the entire length of her colon was inflamed, which explained why she was in so much pain.Next, the surgeon came in, and the first thing she said was, “if I take you to surgery tonight, you'll lose your colon.” Cynthia was in a panic – she didn’t want to lose her colon. However, Cynthia wasn’t getting any better. She had lost fifteen pounds in five days. When they did the second CAT scan, they realized that she developed abscesses in her abdomen.27 days after Cynthia left the hospital, she did the talk on intermittent fasting. Ten days later, Cynthia had her appendix out. [12:25] Writing A Speech And Committing It To Memory For TEDxCynthia knew that she needed a solid two weeks to write a speech and commit to memory. She only had twelve minutes – it was a challenge because when you get up in front of a live audience, your cadence generally slows down. Once you find your stride, you relax, and you might draw things out a little longer. So, midway through her talk, Cynthia realized that she didn't have enough time to get through the whole speech. Right after the TEDx Talk, Cynthia told her coach it was the worst one that she has ever done. [15:15] Becoming A Popular TEDx Talk After Almost DyingCynthia knows that mindset is everything. So, Cynthia wanted to get up there and give her talk no matter what. After, she knew she was going to be so proud of herself.Retrospectively, she has no idea how it all came together. When she watches it now, she thinks about how painful it was.Luckily, Cynthia is now in a completely different place on every level.[24:05] Ditching Doctor Days For The Untamed World Of EntrepreneurshipOn April 1, 2016, Cynthia left clinical medicine. She had been feeling very disillusioned with clinical medicine for a long time.Eventually, Cynthia realized what truly lit her up. What Cynthia enjoys doing is food and nutrition work. Plus, she loves to talk about the influence of food and nutrition on our well-being and our health.Cynthia spent the rest of 2016 navigating the journey from being a clinician to being an entrepreneur. She built a group program and was profitable fairly quickly.Plus, Cynthia started podcasting – it is an amazing opportunity to connect with people![32:10] Potential Pitfalls When Treating Symptoms Rather Than The Root CauseChronic disease management is terribly unfulfilling.Doctors forget to talk to patients about the quality of the foods they eat. Plus, many doctors tell patients that saturated fat is bad and they should be drinking these plant-based garbage seed oils.Sadly, there isn’t enough time for doctors to talk with patients about nutrition.Cynthia’s patients opened her up to the possibility that maybe there were other alternatives or other ways of thinking about things rather than these medications. Many medications have sexual side effects – what 35-year-old would want erectile dysfunction? Unfortunately, our society is increasingly metabolically unstable and obese. Men can actually aromatize testosterone to estrogen.[43:50 Taking The Power Of Your Sex Life As You Get OlderYou have to schedule a time for intimacy. Also, intimacy can represent many different things.Intimacy doesn't have to mean penetrating sex, it could be like someone's giving you a massage, or you're just cuddling with one another. You have to schedule time together.Cynthia recommends looking into Susan Bratton, a trusted sex advisor: https://susanbratton.com/.Plus, you should continue to date your spouse.Lastly, don’t be afraid to explore using new devices.[56:15] Overwhelmed In 2021? Find Balance! You have to have a partner who is supportive of your needs. For Cynthia, there's a lot of role modeling that goes on. Her kids see that she is committed to being physically active. When you're trying to find balance, then you need to acknowledge the things you don't do well and pay someone else to do them. The Anti-Aging Benefits of Intermittent Fasting — Cynthia Thurlow

Younger with Dr. Robyn Benson

Key Takeaways: Cynthia shares how she got started in the medical field and became passionate about intermittent fasting. For the first time, Cynthia started feeling better and younger and had more energy, when she started doing intermittent fasting. Cynthia shares the response she received at TEDx and how that opportunity came about. People are tired of gimmicks. They just want something to work. Women in the age ranges of 35-45 are a forgotten demographic. So many myths are out there when it comes to women and their health. People say that you can’t intermittent fast when you’re at child-bearing age, and will also say older women can’t do it either. Cynthia gives a general 101 guide to intermittent fasting. For many, intermittent fasting is not as overwhelming as you might think! It’s actually very easily achievable. Why does intermittent fasting work so well? If you drink anything sweet when you’re fasting, you’ve broken your fast. A week before your period, you want to shorten your fasting window. This is because we’re more insulin sensitive during that time. If you’re not sleeping, do not add intermittent fasting until you get this under control! Important! Balance is so important for our bodies. This is not a one-sized approach. People should not be fearful to at least try this. How long should you be fasting for? What does a 24-hour fast look like? Weight gain doesn’t have to be just a “normal part” of aging. It’s not! Sometimes a little bit of discomfort is not a bad thing. When our bodies get too comfortable, we are not at our optimal. Your body doesn’t have to fall apart at 45.   Episode Summary: Cynthia helps women get more out of life through intermittent fasting. She has seen her clients completely change; not only do they lose those difficult pounds, but they end up having more energy, and way more life! In this episode, Cynthia shares why intermittent fasting is such a primal and critical part of our wellbeing, and how you can get started.   Guest Bio: Cynthia Thurlow is a globally recognized expert in nutrition & intermittent fasting, highly sought after speaker, CEO and founder of Everyday Wellness Project. This episode of Flipping 50 answers several listener questions about fasting for women over 50. I’ve spoken and written about fasting previously as it relates to you and to exercise timing and no doubt will again. This one is here to stay. This episode will help you to decide if it’s appropriate for you, if so what are some basic guidelines, and provide you with a fantastic resource in a good friend if you’re interested. My Guest Cynthia Thurlow is a globally recognized expert in nutrition & intermittent fasting, highly sought after speaker, CEO and founder of Everyday Wellness Project. She's been a nurse practitioner for 20+ years, is a 2x TEDx speaker: her 2nd talk on intermittent fasting has been viewed more than 7 million times. She has been featured on ABC, FOX5, KTLA, CW and in Medium, Entrepreneur, Yahoo Finance and Business Insider. She's also the host of Everyday Wellness podcast, which was listed as "20 Podcasts That Will Help You Grow in 2020" by Entrepreneur magazine.  Fasting for Women Over 50 Your questions on fasting, whether you should try it, and the benefits of it, keep rolling in. I want to address them and of course address them in the relationship to exercise specifically. Having worked as a health coach since 1995 – before certifications were even a “thing” much of health coaching surrounds diet habits. Our relationship with food is a complex one. Food is in fact one of our sources of pleasure. That in fact is one of the reasons it can go wrong so easily. When clients seek me for support with exercise goals for optimal aging, as a catalyst for other health habits that will help weight loss, or exercise performance for instance, diet always comes up. For 37 years it’s been a conversation that has to happen in order for reap the rewards of exercise and to perform better. Fasting Advice My advice is fasting for women over 50 can be an option once you have realized and tested foods to know what your optimal daily habits are regularly. You have a good relationship with food and eating. You’re eating regularly, not bingeing. If you have a history of bingeing, dieting, overeating and emotional eating, fasting is not something I recommend first. In this podcast I turn to a friend of mine, Cynthia Thurlow for her responses to several questions asked recently. In fasting literature we often refer to the benefits and among the highest is what is called Autophagy. I asked Cynthia to explain, what is autophagy. Here’s her answer. What is Autophagy… Eat… then switched to MTOR (more on that coming) The longer in a fast, the more autophagy 18-24 hours of a fast Then one of the most common and confusing question is what breaks a fast. This in part comes from combining your fasting with a ketogenic diet. When the two begin to blur this question. I ask Cynthia to clarify and here is her answer to… What Breaks a fast? protein and carbs prefers no fatty coffees What’s okay? Black coffee, bitter teas or water 1 tsp MCT oil in coffee? Fat stores vs added fats Insulin response from protein and fat Not sleeping through the night? Stress to the body Slow and steady wins 14-15 hour fast first Fasting for Women Over 50 Tips: Fat-adapted first  Get through fasted window Variety Cynthia also recommends as I do a product from Teri Cochrane for electrolytes. Now I want to be clear this isn’t your Gatorade, Powerade full of sugars and garbage. It’s not Nuun, or Base salt for my athletes out there. It’s not even Skratch, a cleaner reduced sugar alternative from a company in Boulder, CO. What we’re talking about here is a way to get the mineral balance you need in very small amounts, yet that make it no less important, in while you’re fasting. So, here’s what she has to say about electrolytes. Include electrolytes Stevia will break a fast And last Cynthia adds a success tip about carbohydrates that might surprise you. Lower carb (but not NO carb) diet to get into ketosis That's a Wrap There you have it, some of your key questions about fasting for women over 50. What is autophaghy, what breaks a fast, and hints at when to consider fasting and things you may not have given enough thought to in regard to starting and progressing for benefits if in fact fasting is for you. First step? Let’s eat three meals, no snacks and get a minimum of 12 hours overnight without calories eating foods that make your body feel good before you go to the next step. Got questions? She has been featured on ABC, FOX5, KTLA, CW and in Medium and Entrepreneur. She's also the host of Everyday Wellness podcast, which was listed as "20 Podcasts That Will Help You Grow in 2020" by Entrepreneur magazine. https://www.entrepreneur.com/article/343590  Today we chat about all things on chronic stress, immune system, female athletes and fasting! What are your best strategies for managing chronic stress? How does IF impact endurance athletes Do women need to strategize with IF differently than their male counterparts? WHAT IS YOUR STORY…WHAT IS YOUR WHY? WHAT IS YOUR PASSION, PURPOSE AND MISSION. I'm a nurse practitioner, entrepreneur, functional nutritionist, and a two-time TEDx speaker. My passion is helping women find wellness through the healing power of nutrition and solving health problems from the inside out. But, what I'm most proud of are my titles of mom and wife! I have all boys, including two Doodles and a loving, patient and supportive husband. I worked in clinical medicine, both in the ER and cardiology, for nearly 20 years. The power of Western medicine's approach to acute and life-threatening disease and emergencies is undeniable. However, I started to question our approach to the on-going symptoms of chronic health problems. I started to think more about the root causes of the chronic health problems of my patients. I became passionate about learning how I could help my own family, patients, and clients avoid chronic health issues and diseases before they even became a problem. One of the most rewarding aspects of being a nurse practitioner and nutritionist expert are the relationships I develop with patients and clients.  I started to see a powerful relationship between the foods that we eat and improved symptoms, health and wellness. When I saw my patients see big improvements in their health, I was inspired to do advanced training in nutrition and functional testing.  Unexpectedly, in 2019 I had a significant health care hiccup. I was traveling back home to Washington, DC, from a romantic Hawaiian vacation with my husband, and 48hrs later I found myself in the ER with a ruptured appendix, inflamed colon and bought myself a 13 day hospital stay with further complications.  Things got really serious when I couldn't leave my bed, I couldn't eat, I had tubes everywhere, drains coming from my abdomen, and was too weak to deal with anything in my normal daily activities. I was away from my home, my family and my world was very small. My two things that pulled me through this were my boys and the visualization of seeing myself on the TEDx stage, delivering my intermittent fasting talk. I used this technique to keep me motivated on recovery. Nothing prepares you for being a patient when you are used to being the health care provider. I'm happy to report that I graced the TEDx stage 27 days after returning home from my hospitalization and my life changed forever. The YouTube video of my TEDx talk, as of March 2020 has been viewed by over 5 million people. This has lead to incredible opportunities that I am so grateful for. I am uniquely positioned to support women as they struggle with and try to make sense of issues related to lack of energy, weight gain, and food cravings. I understand their frustration when they don't get the answers they want and need from traditional medicine. My patients inspire me to not only create unique one-on-one programs, but also group programs that help address, support and educate women on the profound mind-body connection and provide the tools to address these concerns. I do not believe nor do I support the limiting belief that women have to accept weight gain as a normal function of aging. Hey, hey, hey. And Welcome, welcome, welcome back to another episode of self published. I’m Aziza Kibibi and I would like to humbly thank you for allowing me to caress your eardrums and penetrate your mind. It’s not easy being your own boss. When you have a “superior” there are often consequences for slacking and not getting the job done; theres someone who holds you accountable. A certain amount of discipline is forced out of you because there is somebody to answer to. But, when you are your own boss, the only person to answer to is you. And between being your own worst enemy and your most favorite person; well, if you could conjure an image of what coming and going at the same time looks like, it just may just manifest as standing still. The ability to effectively motivate oneself can be as elusive as your shadow on a cloudy day.  And then throw in life events and friends and family who may not necessarily support you (of course I have some homegrown, fresh brewed tea to share on that later in the show)…we haven’t added the haters and competitors onto the list. It very often feels like you have more reasons to not achieve your goals than you have achieve them.  But you know what, it is not impossible, just stay th… you know what? Lets get into this blog post before I start preaching. The Blog postSeptember 5th, 2013 I HAVE A DREAM August 26, 2013 marked the 50th anniversary of the the day that Martin Luther King and 250,000 Americans, marched on Washington DC for jobs and freedom. Unfortunately do to my limited education, I didn't know much about the original event in 1963. I remember my father repeatedly playing a vinyl record of http://www.heavy.com/news/2013/08/watch-i-have-a-dream-speech-by-martin-luther-king-video-50th-anniversary/ (Dr. Martin Luther King's speech) on Lincoln Memorial when I was little. But at that time the significance wasn't explained to me. So prompted by a trip already planned by a friend, I decided to join him and the other anticipated 300,000 people, to see what the historic event was about. At 4:30 in the morning, myself and 3 others drove almost 5 hours to Washington DC to participate in the reenactment of a peaceful protest headed by one of America's most influential leaders, fifty years ago. My friend brought a painting he created himself titled "I am a Man", to make his own statement among a crowd of many. He received a lot of attention. People took pictures, requested interviews; he even gave a live interview to Fox5 news, as I stood and soaked it all in. I tried to imagine the strength that it took Dr. MLK to rally and inspire hundreds of thousands of people in an attempt to cause change in a society where African Americans were severely discriminated against. Was his dream so strong that he ignored all the risk and dangers associated with trying to bring it to reality? Was he initially alone in his plan to act? If so what about him personally inspired strength in others to do what he did and speak out for their cause? What about Mr. King made people follow and listen to his ideas enough to get up and out of their homes and put themselves out there? As I pondered these questions I began to feel alone in my own quest for change. See, my sisters, along with one of my brother's do not want to be associated with anything that I do to raise awareness for child sexual abuse, if it includes my life with my dad. I posted the link to the http://www.nj.com/passaic-county/index.ssf/2013/08/i_was_in_a_nightmare_impregnated_by_her_father_five_times_east_orange_woman_forges_forward.html (interview I did for NJ.com) on my personal Facebook timeline, and one of my sister's asked me to take it down. I understand and respect their privacy but I can't help but feel alone and in some ways abandoned in carrying this torch that will shine light on this terrible social deviance. On top of that, their position only reminds me of some of the tactics my... It’s not uncommon to feel powerless over your health. This might be because modern lifestyles often drive our eating habits. Today’s guest took control of her health by changing her eating patterns with intermittent fasting. It also promotes autophagy, the body’s process of cleaning out damaged cells. This leads to healthier cellular health and many other benefits. Overall, the strategy of intermittent fasting is about taking control. It’s going to look different for everyone. In this episode What intermittent fasting actually means Fasting’s role in promoting good cellular health The best foods to eat when breaking your fast The best times to exercise while fasting Helpful supplements to take to support nutrition If intermittent fasting should be used over the long term   Quotes “Fasting for many people becomes not only a physical but also an emotional and spiritual process.” [9:26] “Once your body is efficient with using fat as a primary fuel source, you have so much mental clarity and so much energy.” [12:04]  “Our bodies are designed to adapt so over time we don’t want to be rigid with our eating windows. We do better when we’re flexible.” [24:50] “The most important thing is sleep. Her viral TEDx Talk: Intermittent Fasting: Transformative Technique has been viewed nearly 5.5 million times in less than 9 months. She has been featured on ABC, FOX5, KTLA, CW and in Medium and Entrepreneur. She's also the host of Everyday Wellness podcast, which was listed as "20 Podcasts That Will Help You Grow in 2020"  by Entrepreneur magazine. As an advocate for living a fulfilled, healthy and well- balanced lifestyle, Cynthia has committed her career to serving women in their thirties and beyond. She is countering the notion that "this is just how we age, now settle and accept it" and is leading the way for change. As part of that endeavor, Cynthia brings over 20 years of medical experience, combined with current and progressive nutritional perspectives/approaches to truly serve women frustrated with the status quo. Cynthia provides hope and customized programs that work. She selflessly and transparently shares her own personal experiences navigating hormonal imbalances, peri-menopause, and all of the symptoms that plague so many women. She authentically connects to her clients and tribe. Cynthia has been a guest on numerous podcasts including JJ Virgin's Reignite Wellness, Natalie Jill's Leveling Up, 365 Driven with Tony Whatley, Low Carb MD podcast with Drs. Tro and Lenzkes, and University of Adversity to name a few. Cynthia has been featured on Good Morning Washington, WJLA-ABC 14+ times, KTLA, Fox and speaks on intermittent fasting, hormonal health, fat loss, self-care, the power of whole food nutrition, carb cycling, adaptogenic herbs, digestive health and more. She has worked with thousands of individuals who desire to live their lives holistically, balanced, and fulfilled. In this episode, Cynthia Thurlow dives deep into her background and explains the inspiration behind her mission. Cynthia speaks about her passion for intermittent fasting and describes why stabilizing your blood sugar is so crucial for a healthy life. Plus, Cynthia reveals her favorite benefits of fasting and explains the importance of doing the inner work. We need to be aware of limiting beliefs, our negative thoughts, and where our energy is going. Then, Cynthia worked with cardiology. When Cynthia became a parent, she found her child had eczema. This led Cynthia to learn more about nutrition. Cynthia recommends The Unhealthy Truth: One Mother's Shocking Investigation into the Dangers of America's Food Supply-- and What Every Family Can Do to Protect Itself. Cynthia started to think if she was happy with writing prescriptions. Truthfully, she wasn’t happy. When Cynthia started to study nutrition, she finally felt like she found her calling. Four years ago, Cynthia woke up and realized she was done with traditional medicine and gave her notice the same day. Cynthia wants to make a larger impact on her own terms. Frankly, she was tired of people telling her what to do. Now, she is doing exactly what she is supposed to do. [06:40] Why Cynthia Recommends Intermittent Fasting People have been conditioned to believe that they need to eat in the morning. However, our bodies are not designed to be eating all day long. When we are going against convention, we need the confidence to say BS. The cereal companies will benefit when they convince us that we need to eat breakfast garbage. Our bodies are designed to fast, feast, and fast again. Snacking is making us fat. [11:50] How To Stabilize Your Blood Sugar Each meal needs to have protein and healthy fats first. Carbs should be the non-processed variety. We have to stabilize our blood sugar first. Bacon, eggs, and avocado is a great example of fat-filled breakfast. If you are hungry within an hour of eating, your macros are off. Once you get your blood sugar stable, then you can move onto the concept of fasting. If you can’t sleep through the night, then you can’t lose weight. Also, if you are stressed, then you can’t lose weight. If a woman starts losing their period because of a fast, then the fast is too much for their body. [15:30] The Best Benefits of Fasting Mental clarity is Cynthia’s favorite benefit of fasting. She likes to know that she has loads of energy. The improved digestive process is Cynthia’s second favorite benefit. Lastly, the benefits of autophagy are fantastic. People are attracted to fasting because of weight loss; however, they find out that they feel so much better too. [17:20] Why We Need to Focus on Our Inner Work    Inner work is what keeps us sane. We need to be aware of limiting beliefs, our negative thoughts, and where our energy is going. “Our thoughts become our actions.” -Cynthia Thurlow Mindset is the most important thing that we possess. [21:20] How to Build a Mental Six-Pack You need high-quality sleep in a cold, darkroom. Physical activity in the morning is critical. Cynthia enjoys drinking tea – it is beneficial for boosting autophagy. What are you going to do for your brain? Cynthia is always listening to a book or listening to a podcast. Coldwater therapy will also assist with your mental six-pack. [25:20] How to Build Confidence Building confidence requires being in tune with your passions. Take time each day to be inspired by other people. Creating a plan will help with your confidence. Cynthia says the best investments she has made in her business are the big-ticket ones. Sometimes you just have to leap. [29:45] How to Achieve Youthful-Looking Skin How to achieve youthful-looking skin: Autophagy Sleep Hydration Eating healthy Less feeding More fasting Be around people that make you feel joyful and happy Find something that you enjoy doing AND MUCH MORE! Tabitha Lipkin was raised in Texarkana, but over the course of the last decade San Diego has made her their own. Taking a leap of faith, Tabitha Lipkin decided to return to the Lone Star State for her next big break in media and perhaps the next big thing in the industry as a host on the new NBCLX digital network. She gives all the credit to the San Diego community and FOX5 for making it all possible. “FOX5 was great, anyone whoever asks me knows I’m going to sing their praises,” says Tabitha Lipkin about working for FOX 5 San Diego during her Digital Hospitality podcast interview. “(FOX5) was a place that gave me a lot of opportunity and allowed me to launch my career. I was accepted immediately by that team.” Picked up by FOX5 in the twilight of her previous station, CW 6 San Diego, the team at the local FOX syndicate allowed Tabitha Lipkin to spread her wings and make the most out of her curiosity and work ethic. “They let me do weather, anchor, feature work and sports,” Tabitha Lipkin recalls about her time at the San Diego news network. “It was because it was what I wanted and that’s not a common thing. Most people don’t get to do everything when they go somewhere.” Leaving her FOX 5 job will be hard. “I love what I do,” Tabitha reflects on FOX5. “I never felt like I was working even though I was getting paid. Everyone at FOX5 has been a mentor to me, and that’s not a cop-out answer that’s true.” Leaving the city of San Diego will be even harder. “I love everything about this city,” Tabitha Lipkin says to Shawn Walchef on Digital Hospitality, her second appearance on Shawn's podcast. “I love everything about the people here. I never wanted to leave San Diego and FOX5 and I still don’t want to, but there’s a time in our career where if you want to take the next step you have to take the next step.”   The Next Big Step: So, what’s that next big step for Tabitha Lipkin's career? “NBCLX,” Tabitha says proudly of her new job. “It’s the next NBC network.” Going digital first and appealing to a younger generation who consumes media differently, Dallas-based NBCLX has hired talent from all over the country. Tabitha Lipkin looks forward to the challenge. “NBC wants to find out the formula to reinvent TV and media for my generation and the generations above me and below,” Tabitha says about the new NBCLX Digital Network. “That’s a big undertaking and there’s not a simple answer to that. “When I went out to audition and interview, I met with the team and I saw a lot of ambition and hope. I felt like they were going to figure it out and I wanted to be a part of it.” The LX in NBCLX stands for Local X. Tabitha Lipkin and her new NBCLX team are looking to tell stories to and about local communities with the speed and reach of modern platforms. “It hurts to say this but local news as we know it is dying,” Tabitha states about the fate of traditional local news organizations. “Local news is very important, especially in regard to keeping local governments in check and making sure that your communities are getting the kind of information you need.” With major networks fusing opinionated personalities with standard news, a lot of facts are getting twisted and a lot of local stories are getting left behind. “This talking head thing that we have in news these days, there’s too much opinion that’s been fused with news,” says Tabitha Lipkin about the state of the news industry in 2020. “These two things are not the same thing. Those cable channels have done a disservice to themselves in putting talking heads into actual news and that’s not good.” Tabitha Lipkin and the team of forward thinking news people at NBCLX are trying to change all that. “This is a national network but it’s also trying to set a precedent of how to get people in your local communities to watch.”   What is the Future of Local News: Fans of Tabitha Lipkin know she is a Jill of All Trades bo...

In Episode 78 of the Mr. Wine Guy Podcast I had the privilege of sitting down with my wife Jennifer Gallagher as we shared our thoughts on the 2018 Picardan White Wine by Jack Simon Vineyards out of the San Diego County of Southern CA by Winemaker, Ryan Scott. This segment was previously known as my "After Party Pick Of The Week" but after a conversation between Jennifer and I we decided to change the name to "Wine Night Stand, Where Anything Goes." I used to promote Wine Night Stand's when I originally came up with the concept for my Pick of the Week but the meaning behind the name is to love and appreciate wines in the company of family and friends with no strings attached, and no reservations.  This is exactly what you can come to expect in these epsiodes as I'm sure you're already aware if you've tuned in!  These epsiodes are completely off the cuff and full of so much energy and personality and it should come as no surprise that we've already had a little wine at this point. If you ever have a quesion about wine, or one that pertains to this feature, simply jump on LIVE every Monday evening at 6 o'clock, PST and we'll go over your question during the podcast.  You can also submit questions ahead of time through Instaram DM. With that being said, Ryan shares his experiences at Jack Simon Vineyards, what the Diskin family, owners of Jack Simon not only mean to him but also the surrounding community, and what it means to focus of Rhone and Iberian varietals while making wine for this brand. New Jersey native Cara Di Falco is a woman who knows that success is born of passion. In just three short years, she’s made her online series ‘Cara’s Cucina’ YouTube’s first and ONLY Emmy Nominated cooking show! Di Falco’s distinguished career on TV and radio (at News 12 NJ, Good Day NY on Fox5, and 1010 WINS radio) set the table for her expertly produced and highly entertaining foray into the world of cooking shows, but this Italian American renaissance woman is so much more than just a TV star. She’s also an Integrative Nutrition Health Coach, a professional broadcast journalist, and a tireless ambassador for Italian American cuisine and culture. Now, this proud “graduate of Nonna’s kitchen” sits in with Rossella and John to share the secrets to her success and to dig deeper into their shared Italian American experience. As they explore the evolution of Italian American cuisine, they’ll discuss family history, culinary anthropology, and the ups-and-downs of sharing personal recipes with the wider world. They’ll try to understand an “Italian American take on Home Economics”, address the hypersensitive topic of finding a consensus-based meatball recipe, and decide whether or not Chicken Parmigiana truly qualifies as part of the “Mediterranean Diet”. It’s an episode to inspire the amateur culinarian that rests in the heart of all Italian Americans, and one that’s jam packed with laughs and love “from soup to nuts”. Matty Roberts officially severed ties Monday with "Alienstock," which had been scheduled at the Little A'Le'Inn in Rachel, Nev. on Sept. 20-22. The event received final approval from the Lincoln County Board of Commissioners last week to let perhaps 10,000 camp out on the property in Rachel, the town closest to the top-secret Area 51 military base. "Due to the lack of infrastructure, poor planning, risk management and blatant disregard for the safety of the expected 10,000+ AlienStock attendees, we decided to pull the plug on the festival," Roberts said in a statement to FOX5. "I've never been more stressed in my life, but I've also never been this happy," he told FOX5 on Sunday. "It's insane, but it's exciting." "The permit holder (Connie West) was given multiple opportunities to provide us with the proof that things expected at this festival were in place. In fact, she refused to provide to us, as agreed upon, contracts, proof of deposits or any paper proof of anything," Roberts said in a statement to FOX5. The statement from Robert's representative says the decision officially disconnects them from the inn owner, the town of Rachel, and "AlienStocks affiliation with them," in addition to no longer offering their logo, social media, website, or "Matty Roberts likeness or scheduled appearance." "The creator of the Storm Area 51 movement pulled out because he feels the event is not safe and lacks organization. With a week and a half to go no preparations have been made and no bands have been signed," the town's website states. "If any event still happens it is going to be a pretty sad affair with no bands, very little infrastructure and a lot of unhappy campers." In a five-minute hearing, the Nye County Commissioners voted 4-0 voted in favor of the preemptive state of emergency based on information they received from the Nye County Sheriff's Department and Nye County Fire Department regarding the uncertainties surrounding the three-day event in late September. Nye County Director of Emergency Services Scott Lewis said Wednesday he is preparing for several scenarios with various severity levels. “A mass casualty incident, serious traffic accident, large fire, anything along those lines. Even the potential for something similar to October 1," he told FOX5. "Anything along those lines we want to be prepared for to the best of our ability." October 1 refers to the Las Vegas Massacre, the deadliest shooting in modern U.S. history. County Commission Chairman John Koenig laid out what could happen if a crowd that large ends up appearing in Amargosa. “Be prepared not to have cell service, not to have Internet. There will probably be no water available, there will probably be no ice available because everything is going to sell out. There will probably be no gas left in the gas station, no food, nowhere to go potty," Koenig said Wednesday. "If you're coming, be prepared because it's probably not going to be nice. Even if you don’t know her name, you definitely know her face! Candice Huffine is a well-known model, represented by IMG Models, with a seemingly never-ending resumé. She has appeared in the pages of Vogue, W, and Glamour (and on the cover of Vogue Italia), has walked the runways at New York Fashion Week in shows for Christian Siriano, Sophie Theallet, and Prabal Gurung, starred in DNCE’s “Cake by the Ocean” music video, is in Target’s latest TV commercial, and was featured in Lane Bryant’s highly publicized “I’m No Angel” and “Plus is Equal” campaigns. She was also the first plus-size model to appear in the Pirelli Calendar. Candice is also a runner! She ran her first half marathon, the New York City Half Marathon, in 2016, and will be running it again this year to celebrate her one-year racing anniversary. Last year, Candice launched the Project Start initiative on Instagram, encouraging new runners to band together and empower each other. In November 2016, she appeared on the cover of Women’s Running magazine. Candice grew up in Washington, D.C., but now lives in Brooklyn, NY, with her husband, Matt Powers, and their puppy, Jerry Brows. Apologies for Ellie barking in the background at the end. She really wanted to join the discussion about body image! It's no secret that when it comes to the planning of family photos (or let's be honest... most everything), moms are typically the ones contacting photographers & organizing everything. So it's SUPER important that we don't forget the importance of networking with moms. To chat about this, we invited Jillian Darlington to join us in the studio. Jillian is a mom herself, and the CEO of MomCo App. In addition to running her own company, she is also a SheKnows Expert, a member of the Today Show Parenting Team, brand ambassador, and regular parenting expert on Fox5 and CW6 News in San Diego. MomCo is a FREE app that allows moms to locate and connect with potential mom friends that live close to them with similarly-aged children and common interests. It's a fantastic resource for moms, and also a great place for networking with moms, as Jillian discusses in our episode! We have picked our three favorite tips for networking with moms from Jillian... check out the blog below! For more awesome tips, be sure to tune in to our full episode! Key Takeaways: Find the Queen Bee. When you're interested in getting the word out about your business (or a special offer like mini sessions), don't just look for individual moms, aim to reach out to someone who is in a place of authority. For Facebook, this would be the admin of whatever mom group you're in. This person likely has a lot of influence over the members in the group, and the members are more likely to trust her opinion. She can also spread the news quickly to other moms. Consider offering a referral incentive. This isn't a bad idea for pretty much any client you have, but since moms love to chat with each other about their experiences (good and bad!), offering a referral incentive is a great way to make sure moms are spreading the news about you and your business! This means other people are kind of doing free advertising for you & is a win/win for you & your client... you get more business & they get discounts or free prints! Build mutually beneficial relationships to spread your brand. The more people you can have working for you and spreading your name around the better. A great way to do this in your area is to do a themed shoot representing a local business. For example, if there's a cute donut shop in your city, consider doing a mini session featuring their donuts. Be sure to tag them in Instagram posts, and aim to get them reposting and tagging you. By doing this with local businesses, you're also attracting the attention of moms & other potential clients without actually networking with them directly. Jillian gives tons of advice for networking with moms, and she's fantastic with all things business-related, having started her own very successful company herself. Be sure to tune in to hear her entire episode! Relavent Links: MomCo App Julie Ferneau Photography Ashley DuChene Photography Chasing Daylight Photography Download from iTunes Here
