5 Self-Care Tips on National Stress Awareness Day

Irish Tech News Audio Articles

Stress affects people in different ways, both physically and emotionally, and to varying degrees. Research shows that stress can sometimes be positive by making us more alert and helping us perform better in certain situations. However, over a prolonged period of time, stress can take its toll. It seems our lives today are constant to-do lists and commitments. Today, November 6th, is National Stress Awareness Day, a day that encourages people to recognise and manage stress in healthy ways, emphasising the importance of self-care and stress reduction techniques. Dr. Phil Kieran is a Cork based GP. He says it's important to take stock of our lives and manage stress. "Today's world is hurried and hectic, and it's crucial we begin to take heed of how it is affecting our bodies. We need to take note of what our days look like and identify places we can improve or take a few moments for ourselves. It's important not to ignore physical signs of stress, too. Finding a balance between responsibility to others and to yourself is important in reducing stress levels. At the end of the day, try not to be too hard on yourself - keep things in perspective. We all have bad days." Here are Dr Phil's 5 tips to help cope with everyday stress: 1. Exercising Physical activity can be very effective in relieving stress and improving our sleep. It burns off excess energy and frees the mind. Even light exercise like a walk in nature, taking in fresh air, can make a big difference. Try to find an activity that you're passionate about to keep you motivated. 2. Sleep Stress can have a big impact on our sleep patterns. It can make it more difficult to get to or stay asleep. Sleep is important for mental health. It helps us to think clearly and gives us the energy to deal with issues. Most people need 5 to 9 hours of sleep a night with more than 7 hours recommended for adults. 3. Self Care Often touted as a treat or luxury, self-care is a significant part of feeling and staying well. Taking time out to look after ourselves can play a big role in our lives. Even taking small moments for ourselves can help build a more resilient version of ourselves to deal with stress. Taking a supplement like Zenflore Calm as part of a daily routine can also help with relaxation and emotional balance while supporting a busy mind. 4. Catching up with family and friends Community can have a really positive impact on relieving stress levels. Socialising and meeting up with friends and family can help us forget about worries or help us through a trying time - a problem shared is a problem halved! 4. Eating well and staying hydrated What we eat can make a difference to our overall health - the choices we make can improve our physical and mental health. It's important to make sure we are drinking enough water, too. Proper hydration is vital for maintaining cognitive functions such as memory, attention, and problem-solving. A diet rich in foods such as fruit, vegetables, whole grains, nuts and seeds can boost our energy and mental health. For our special 300th episode, we welcome a true electronic music icon... As part of the original crew of Nubreed DJs, Sander Kleinenberg helped shape a sound that defined a generation. However, more than his peers, Kleinenberg challenged the prog status quo in a way that set him apart. The first Everybody mix compilation, featuring pink-themed art collage and journal-style liner notes, showcased an artist with a penchant for fun—an image that contrasted sharply with the serious persona his contemporaries portrayed. That energy transferred to his sets too, which woudl fluctuate from vibrant deep house that seamlessly blended with dark, dramatic progressive sounds. It resonated widely, so much so that he took out the Essential Mix of the Year honours in 2001. Today, he remains active in the studio, boasting an ever-growing and impressive list of collaborators, including names like Halsey, Daft Punk, Timbaland, and Madonna. His Deepest Mixtape In The Universe podcast is proof that he hasn't lost his mixing touch. We are thrilled to host this legend for a two-hour mix featuring Phil Kieran, Tigerskin, Blue Amazon, and more.

For the final podcast of 2020, I'm very pleased to announce the return of my good friend Krowne. Gary Crowne aka Krowne is an electronica, hip-hop and techno DJ, producer and promoter from Edinburgh who’s been releasing music since 2010 under the aliases Krowne and Ghost By Nature, he was a core artist within the Black Lantern Music Collective and one half of duo Kromatic with Asthmatic Astronaut. Krowne is label boss at Precog Records, running it along with his brother Alan Crowne who is the Art Director for the label. Things really started to take off for Krowne when he won the Orbital ‘Wonky” Beatport remix competition in 2011. Over the following years he’s had a multitude of renowned releases on labels including Beat Machine Records, BLM and GTA Digital, putting out everything from techno, house, hip hop, electronica, breaks to sci-fi crunk ……….. even original soundtracks. He’s worked with wicked remixers including Ast Ast, G. Kemp, Gary the Apprentice and Coffee & Blood and his hip hop output has seen him working with MCs the world over including Questionmark Embargo, Harlequinade and Texture. Everything he puts out reaches stratospheric heights with each release getting over 20,000 downloads or more. He’s had many of his tracks played on respected radio stations and Kromatic have even played live on BBC Radio 1. In 2013, ably assisted by Jack Simon, Rendezyvoodoo and Strut, he formed Edinburgh techno club night Fourbyfour. The night rapidly took off, show casing guests like Hermanez, Phil Kieran and Ramiro Lopez. Lately Fourbyfour launched a sister night called Fourplay which ventures into the realms of hip hop, funk and a more open minded music policy……..  another successful venture. He’s also a freelance sound designer, film and commercials music producer and sound editor. He’s also involved with 3D logo sound design, creating music for BBCs The Social and making several of his own music videos. Krowne has many more releases in the pipeline building on the previous successes of his multi genre skills. Along with running his successful club nights and a multitude of other side projects, he’s not short on work. He’s got so much musical experience to give to the masses. No matter what this guy concentrates his skills on, it always comes up gold. Touring agent, philanthropist, humble warrior. One moment, one witnessed experience. Sometimes that's all it can take to define your life's purpose. This is what happened for Mike Toner, one ordinary day back at University. One moment of witnessing the daily struggle of another human navigating the world around them – a struggle which for that young man was the norm – but for Mike has become the driving force behind everything he dedicates his energy to.Mike Toner, aka Irish Mike, aka Radiator, is a legend in the Melbourne dance music scene, not only because he is an incredible promoter, event creator, and DJ, but also as one of the loveliest and most humble human beings you'll ever meet. Best of all, Mike uses this never-ending positivity to motivate and inspire those around him to be the best versions of themselves. And he expects as good as he gives, and so don't try and make any excuses as to why you can't strive just as high as he.Mike owns one of Melbourne's most well respected touring agencies, Thick as Thieves, playing host to some of the biggest names in electronic music, including Patrick Topping, Phil Kieran, and Claptone. But it's his philanthropic efforts – we're talking over three quarters of a MILLION dollars raised for The Fred Hollows Foundation alone – that Mike is most passionate about. That moment, over 20 years ago, forever in his mind. I had such a great catch-up with Mike to chat about the joy he gets from pushing the people he loves to be their best, getting DJs to play for free in the name of restoring eyesight, and raising the vibration of everyone around him. On this weeks episode of the Space Cowboys RIPEcast, we are featuring a special guest mix from San Francisco Bay Area local favorite and member of the infamous Airpusher Collective, Cptn Jay. Here are a few words from the man himself about this guest mix: “Where do breaks, techno, and tech house crossover? What can Germany teach us about Detroit? What kind of Dirty Birds fly to Ibiza? Can something be both tasteful and dirty? And what snyth doesn’t sound better with a dirty break under it?? My goal was to use the incredible honor of being included on Ripe Cast to play with genres and paint a different kind of picture. I wove a few of my all time favorite breaks tracks together with some new techno hotness, and mashed up others into genre bending behemoths. The set overall has notes of bouncy, funky, dark, spacious, and, most importantly, smashing. You gotta smash on the Ripe Cast. This set was so fun to make! Thank you so much, Space Cowboys, for the platform and opportunity. I truly appreciate it and hope all y’all enjoy the music!” YOU CAN CHECK OUT MORE FROM CPTN JAY HERE: https://soundcloud.com/cptn-jay TRACK LISTING: 1. Nachtbraker – “Stranger” 2. The Terrace Podcast Presents Episode 179 Macromism The artistic union between Mattia Saviolo and Eugenio Zampieri is consolidated years ago, thanks to the common passion for electronic music, especially for “Techno-Minimal” music, that helps them to obtain notoriety as young producers and Djs at local and international level. In this way they can share the consolle with artists such as Phil Kieran, Par Grindvik, Fabrizio Maurizi, Gel Abril, Joseph Capriati. They release “Maybe 64” Ep for Polar Noise, one of the most important labels of the electronic music in Italy. Later on they decide to revise their music adding Deeper and Tech-House's sounds. This change brings them under the spotlight at last: they release a various artist on “Inmotion Music” and the bomb “Groover Ep” on Carlo Lio's label (Rawthentic Music). In the meantime other secret tracks have been played and supported by Djs such as Dubfire, Butch, Loco Dice, Tini. It's certainly that in a short time Macromism will form part of the Italian most famous Djs. www.theterracepodcast.com
