The biggest names in Hollywood and Broadway recorded for AFRS during the war years, The American Forces Network can trace its origins back to May 26, 1942, when the War Department established the Armed Forces Radio Service (AFRS). The U.S. Army began broadcasting from London during World War II, using equipment and studio facilities borrowed from the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC). The first transmission to U.S. troops began at 5:45 p.m. on July 4, 1943, and included less than five hours of recorded shows, a BBC news and sports broadcast. That day, Corporal Syl Binkin became the first U.S. Military broadcasters heard over the air. The signal was sent from London via telephone lines to five regional transmitters to reach U.S. troops in the United Kingdom as they prepared for the inevitable invasion of Nazi-occupied Europe. Fearing competition for civilian audiences the BBC initially tried to impose restrictions on AFN broadcasts within Britain (transmissions were only allowed from American Bases outside London and were limited to 50 watts of transmission power) and a minimum quota of British produced programming had to be carried. Nevertheless, AFN programs were widely enjoyed by the British civilian listeners who could receive them, and once AFN operations transferred to continental Europe (shortly after D-Day) AFN were able to broadcast with little restriction with programs available to civilian audiences across most of Europe (including Britain) after dark. As D-Day approached, the network joined with the BBC and the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation to develop programs especially for the Allied Expeditionary Forces. Mobile stations, complete with personnel, broadcasting equipment, and a record library were deployed to broadcast music and news to troops in the field. The mobile stations reported on front line activities and fed the news reports back to studio locations in London.

Best ball drafts are the "one night stand" of fantasy football.Your typical redraft fantasy football leagues are like dating; you choose your mate(s) and spend several magical weeks together before eventually parting ways for someone else next year.Dynasty leagues are like marriage; you choose your mate(s) and commit to them for life, sticking together for better or for worse.Best ball leagues? They're the one night stand of fantasy football; you enjoy the thrill of picking different positions for a few hours and dominating (the draft) but have no reason to see that league ever again after the draft. Here's a basic intro to best ball leagues for those looking to understand the format better: https://www.basementbrewedff.com/post/intro-to-best-ball-fantasy-football-leaguesIf you prefer your content on YouTube, this same episode is there: https://youtu.be/MFRn26hhy4UWho is ONE person that would like this content? Nevertheless AFN programmes were widely enjoyed by the British civilian listeners who could receive them and once AFN operations transferred to continental Europe (shortly after D-Day) AFN were able to broadcast with little restriction with programmes available to civilian audiences across most of Europe (including Britain) after dark. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Entertainment Radio Stations Live 24/7 Sherlock Holmes/CBS Radio Mystery Theater https://live365.com/station/Sherlock-Holmes-Classic-Radio--a91441 https://live365.com/station/CBS-Radio-Mystery-Theater-a57491 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------

This week, things get extreme AGAIN as we dive deep into ECW's One Night Stand 2006. This was the beginning of the new ECW brand that would be headed by Paul Heyman as GM and Rob Van Dam as the ECW Champion... only for it to fall apart literally weeks later. But first, we talk about Cody Rhodes wrestling at Hell in a Cell with a torn pec, Jon Moxley vs. Hiroshi Tanahashi for the AEW Interim World Heavyweight Championship at Forbidden Door now official, and more current nonsense. -- Follow us on Twitter [@_piccone] [@VaughnMJohnson] [@ShootersRadio] You can subscribe to The Straight Shooters on the following platforms: [Apple Podcasts] [Google Podcasts] [Spotify] [iHeartRadio] [Amazon] [Audacy] [TuneIn Radio] [Pandora] [Stitcher] [Spreaker] [Player FM] and wherever else you get your podcasts! Ten years ago I was lucky enough to be a part of a project called The Moment, which is described as wild, poignant, life changing stories from 125 writers and artists, famous and obscure (I was definitely one of the more obscure ones). My editor, Larry Smith was wonderful – inspiring, supportive and unflinching. I look back on this experience now with gratitude as Atria/Simon & Schuster is preparing to launch my memoir, Stash, into the world (March, 2023). As Scottie says, that moment, has led me to this moment. In the first of a two-part series, Jason examines the impact of popular YouTube creator Kevin Samuels, the dapper and blunt relationship guru who died Thursday morning inside his Atlanta apartment at age 56. Samuels attracted a massive YouTube and Instagram following dishing harsh dating advice primarily to black women. Jason considered Samuels the “king of the manosphere,” the collection of male content creators who support patriarchal values and oppose the feminist movement. In Friday's Part I, Jason talks with "Fearless" contributors Steve Kim and Shemeka Michelle about Samuel's legacy and somewhat mysterious death. According to media reports, Samuels suffered a heart attack and died in the arms of a woman he met the night before at a bar. News outlets, particularly TMZ, were slow to report the details of Samuels' death. Meanwhile, Samuels' critics celebrated his passing on Twitter. Learn more about your ad choices.
