Today's conversation is with two of my favorite worship leaders, Jenna Nicholson and Zoe Kuhn, and I've been waiting to have this one for a while.I first met Jenna and Zoe at a book release event I was producing at church, and they closed the night with a song called "New Thing" that absolutely slayed me. I thought it was just the season I was in that made it hit so hard, but turns out every time I hear it, it strikes me just as deeply. If you're in a season of transition, pain, confusion, or well… anything, this song is a balm to the soul.Today, we're talking about hidden seasons… the stretches of time when you're wondering if God's plan includes your dreams. Jenna shares about the question God keeps asking her: "If this doesn't happen the way you want it to, do you still think I'm good?" We talk about what it's like to make music in Music City and how the comparison trap can't rob you of your calling. There's so much that's helpful here. These two exude joy, and this was a refreshing conversation on every level. Go right now and download their music. You won't be disappointed, and you WILL be blessed.Jenna and Zoe's Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/itsjennaandzoeJenna and Zoe's Website: https://www.jennaandzoe.com/Jenna and Zoe's Music: https://music.apple.com/us/artist/jenna-zo%C3%AB/1447015967Jenna and Zoe on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCVHhF17oaPtU2fe5cbIh1Xw

We have come to the final week of our Curious Church series. For many reasons, we are heading into a new chapter as a church—as we think about how we use our building and prepare for a capital campaign, and as we pray about hiring a new staff person to attend to the people God has placed in our care; as we think about the way culture's relationship with the church has changed over the past several years, and how we can use the unique gifts God has given us as a church to be in partnership with our community. And as with any big (or small) change, it's important to listen to where to Spirit is leading—to get curious with God. Over these past weeks, we've wondered together—about God, about scripture, about ourselves, and about the kind of community we're becoming. And if curiosity has taught us anything, it's that God is never finished with us. That's what Isaiah is trying to tell the people in today's passage.

Get ready for God to do a new thing in your life! We need understanding when God wants to expand our capacity. How do you perceive this? Our perception affects our capacity. In the Bible, perception is often linked to wisdom, discernment, and spiritual understanding, which involves seeing beyond physical appearances to grasp what we cannot see in the spirit. Recognize that our human perception can be flawed and limited. Our spiritual perception is empowered by the Holy Spirit, who enables believers to perceive and understand God's will and truths.

People don't explore enough. They rely on cached thoughts and actions to get through their day. Unfortunately, this doesn't lead to them making progress on their problems. The solution is simple. Just do one new thing a day to solve one of your problems. Intellectually, I've always known that annoying, persistent problems often require just 5 seconds of actual thought. But seeing a number of annoying problems that made my life worse, some even major ones, just yield to the repeated application of a brief burst of thought each day still surprised me. For example, I had a wobbly chair. It was wobbling more as time went on, and I worried it would break. Eventually, I decided to try actually solving the issue. 1 minute and 10 turns of an allen key later, it was fixed. Another example: I have a shot attention span. Adam Draper, Founder and Managing Director at Boost VC, shares stories of his family's pivotal role in shaping Silicon Valley, from his grandfather's pioneering work at Sutter Hill Ventures to his father's global expansion of Draper Associates. Building on that legacy, Adam created Boost VC to back founders tackling endeavors of consequence — companies so bold they're often dismissed as “too risky” by traditional investors. He explains how pre-seed investing differs from later-stage venture capital and why he loves supporting technically ambitious founders in frontier industries, crypto, space, and deep tech. He also reflects on how curiosity, not consensus, has guided some of Boost VC's biggest wins. Adam offers candid insights on founder evaluation, the power of weirdness, and how taking risks can often lead to the safest path to freedom. In this episode, you'll learn:[01:00] The Draper legacy: how one family helped shape venture capital[05:45] From steel to startups: the early days of Silicon Valley[10:45] Adam's first startup and lessons from failure[13:30] Why Boost VC bets on “endeavors of consequence”[16:00] How Adam thinks about risk, luck, and curiosity in investing[18:30] The weird founder advantage: high agency and obsession as signals[22:45] How Adam evaluates founders beyond the pitch deck[27:00] Rethinking risk: why the boldest path can be the safestThe nonprofit Adam supports: The Ocean CleanupAbout Adam DraperAdam Draper is the Founder and Managing Director of Boost VC, a pre-seed venture firm in Silicon Valley that invests in founders building the future—across crypto, space, deep tech, and frontier science. It looks like there is a new fad emerging when it comes to Trick or Treating...Trunk or Treating. We discuss how this new fad may actually damage the Halloween experience.

Join Elliott Warren as he unpacks the critical lessons from the life of Joshua, revealing how God prepares us for the new thing He is doing today! Just as Joshua was positioned for a new season of advancing and possessing the land, God is calling us into a time of new assignments, alignments, and fresh anointing. This message stresses the importance of character and courage—the same strength that allowed Joshua to stand for truth when it was unpopular. Many today seek comfort over spiritual warfare, preferring "smooth" words to the call to step out in faith and face giants. Elliott Warren challenges us to be ready to lay down our lives for the cause of Christ, emphasizing that this is where true life is found. Elliott Warren also highlights the necessity of both courageous leadership and unified support to enter God's full blessing. We are called to be strong, to rise up in faith, and to uphold our spiritual leaders, recognizing that their strength is a covering that flows down to the entire body—a lesson powerfully illustrated by the story of Moses, Aaron, and Hur. Finally, Pastor Warren addresses the wilderness experience—the seemingly unjust trials that precede promotion. He encourages those who feel they've been dealt a bad hand to follow Joshua's example: reject bitterness, hold onto God's promises, and be prepared to step out when God gives the marching orders. Are you ready to be strong, courageous, and go forward into this new season?

Welcome back to Truth, Lies & Work, the award-winning podcast where behavioural science meets workplace culture — brought to you by the HubSpot Podcast Network. I'm Chartered Occupational Psychologist Leanne Elliott, joined as always by business owner Al Elliott, and together we simplify the science of work. This week's guest is Patrick Fagan — behavioural scientist, bestselling author, and consultant on influence and psychology. Patrick spent a year doing something completely new every single week, from joining cults to attending cuddle workshops, from My Little Pony conventions to colonic irrigation, all to see how novelty shapes happiness, memory, and meaning. His reflections are part science, part personal experiment — and the lessons go way beyond fun stories. They show us how leaders, teams, and individuals can use novelty and experience design to build happier, more connected, and more creative lives.
