Today I have an amazing guest who is a true expert on all things addiction! Duane Osterlind is a therapist who has been working in the field of addiction for two decades and who hosts the podcast The Addicted Mind. We discuss:- What is sex addiction?- How do couples repair after betrayal trauma/PTSD?- What is "deceptive sexuality"?- What is the role of childhood trauma in eventual sex addiction?- What's an "intimacy disorder"?Duane is a great speaker with lots of great ways to understand this issue, and is compassionate and fair to both partners in this discussion. We also discuss the timeline of repair, the changes he has seen in who struggles with sex addiction over the course of his career (hint: changes in age and gender), and how dealing with shame is an integral aspect of healing from sex/porn addiction and the havoc it can wreak on relationships and your life overall. Here are all of Duane's links!Novus Mindful Life CounselingThe Addicted Mind PodcastShame To ResilienceInstagram: The Addicted Mind Instagram Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/addictedmindpodcast/

Raj Oza is no stranger to OGI's Life of the Mind Podcast. However, this time in a twist, we are interviewing Raj on the occasion of the launch of his debut novel- Double Play on the Red Line. This work of "auto"-fiction captures many of the themes from Podcast Episodes 3-5, also with Raj, around race and identity. However, this is fiction about baseball interleaved with profound race, identity and justice issues. The most apt comments on this podcast as well as the book come from listeners and readers who say, "I really don't like baseball, but I couldn't stop reading because of the powerful identity and justice themes." Conversely, others will read the book just for the baseball history and lore while "tolerating" the bigger themes. A few like the interviewer are captivated by both aspects as well as Raj's love for Chicago! The interview also delves into the craft of writing fiction. Raj, in his parting comments, beautifully captures the purpose and spirit of the Oak Guild Institute.Reference: Double Play on the Red Line. Copyright 2025 Rajesh C Oza. Third World Press

In this episode of The Re-Mind Podcast, Dr Ashleigh Moreland and David Masterton share a heartfelt update: after over two and a half years of weekly episodes, they're preparing to retire this format of the podcast at the end of 2025.Ash and Dave reflect on the journey that brought them here, the lessons they've learned as friends and collaborators, and the big shifts happening in both of their lives. From building Re-MIND to Dave's new passion for AI and conscious technology, this conversation is a raw, honest, and hopeful exploration of endings, seasons, and what's next.In this episode:Why it's time to bring this chapter of the podcast to a closeThe behind-the-scenes challenges and growth of creating weekly episodesThe importance of honoring seasons and knowing when to pivotDave's next big leap into AI, blockchain, and “anti-slop” conscious toolsWhy identity and value aren't defined by productivity aloneReflections on what's been built—and what still lies aheadThis isn't goodbye—it's an evolution. The library of 140+ episodes will remain, and the lessons within will continue to serve.Reflection prompts:What season of life are you in right now—building, maintaining, or shifting?Where are you being called to release something, even if it's been meaningful? How can you honor both the endings and the beginnings in your own journey?
This is a reshare of my interview with Jess Leondiou, originally featured on Make Your Mind podcast.I am grateful to Jess for graciously allowing me to repost our conversation from earlier this year.About Make Your Mind PodcastHow do our minds really work? How different are we from one another? What is the science behind our interactions, and how do we fit into the larger collective of consciousness? Make Your Mind explores these profound questions with curiosity and dedication to expanding our understanding of ourselves and the world. Jess brings together experts from various fields - those who study the science of the mind, experts in self-inquiry, and thought leaders with social and cultural insights - for conversations that unpack these evolving topics. Our ConversationIn her beautiful introduction, Jess reflects on how diagnosis impacts our sense of self. She explores the complex territory between finding relief and validation in labels, while also noticing how they can shift our self-perception. As research shows (Dweck), what we believe about ourselves profoundly shapes our behavior, and the language we use becomes central to how we operate.Thank you again, Jess, for this meaningful conversation and for the care you bring to exploring the breadth of human experience!!Originally featured on Make Your Mind podcast : https://creators.spotify.com/pod/profile/makeyourmind/episodes/Emotional-Sensitivity--Intensity-For-the-Neurodivergent-and-Gifted-Adult--with-Imi-Lo-e33ak1nPlease do check out her wonderful work as well! Effective decision making is a crucial aspect of life. In life's endeavors, it will require you to make hard decisions and most importantly, there are choices you must make by yourself. However, not so many people trust themselves in making the right decision.
The strength to do something that is frightening is one definition of courage. Because some people possess courage and others do not, it is important to identify which elements actually make-up this special characteristic.
According to various studies of the educational, occupational and sports industry, mental toughness can have a positive effect on a variety of things. What aspects are influenced by mental toughness?
Does my life have a purpose? This is amongst the most common questions that we frequently ask ourselves. Irrespective of what angle you decide to look at, purpose always relies on some kind of connection. It could be with nature, other people, spiritual life and other things that are included in the wellbeing model.
Inspiration is, in its simplest form, the force that drives you to do things. Inspiration is far from being a simple topic; there are many books, webpages and articles that attempt to explain inspiration and some top academics have dedicated their life's work to trying to understand, model and develop motivation theory.
Wellbeing isn't just another word for physical health—it is about finding balance in body, mind, and spirit. In this state, we feel content, connected, energized, resilient, and safe.
Moore says that “The characteristics of the Warrior in his fullness amount to a total way of life, what the samurai called a do (pronounced ‘do'). These characteristics constitute the Warrior Dharma, Ma'at, or Tao, a spiritual or psychological path through life.”
There are quite a few benefits when a person is optimistic. For example, optimists tend to achieve better results and have a better level of health. Pessimists however, are more common in life. These individuals give up when they see adversity and they may suffer from depression.
Zhuzi said, “Make preparations before it rains. Don't wait until you're thirsty to dig a well.”

As we arrive at Episode 423, we're celebrating 9 years of the Mom & Mind Podcast! I never imagined this possibility, but I'm so honored to share these profound stories and feature these helpful experts. I'm thankful to the real rockstars, every single listener. We continue to address every aspect of perinatal mental health, raising awareness and spreading a message of hope. Each person's journey of vulnerability, difficulty, and healing is important, and we hope that the insights and resources we share can help others. I'm excited to bring you another episode with Dr. Shoshana Bennett, the very first expert guest to appear on the podcast way back in 2016. After two life-threatening bouts of postpartum illness, Dr. Shoshana Bennett helped pioneer the field of maternal mental health in the US. She founded Postpartum Assistance for Mothers in 1987, became president of California's Postpartum Health Alliance, and served as president of Postpartum Support International. Dr. Shosh is the author of Children of the Depressed, Postpartum Depression for Dummies, and Pregnant on Prozac. She co-authored Beyond the Blues: A Guide to Understanding and Treating Prenatal and Postpartum Depression. She created the first app for postpartum depression and is an executive producer of the documentary, Dark Side of the Full Moon. Dr. Shosh co-founded the Postpartum Action Institute, which is committed to promoting parental health. To date, she has helped over 20,000 new parents around the world through private consultations, teleclasses, conferences, webinars, and support groups. Show Highlights: Intimacy is SO much more than “just sex.” Examples of intimacy and connection Barriers to intimacy include assumptions, lack of communication, taking each other for granted, and not showing love in various ways. A lack of appreciation leads to a battle over who's working harder and resentment. Dr. Shosh's advice to couples to “get more of what you need.” The importance of being respectful instead of snappy, critical, and nasty (“YOU are responsible for what comes out of your mouth, whether you are sleep-deprived or not.”) Dates are important and should not be “back-burnered.” (Hear Dr. Shosh's rules for dating when there is a new baby at home!) Anticipation of the next date is important! Get creative with physical intimacy! The key to intimacy is to approach a partner without complaining; we have to re-educate ourselves. Be intentional in your relationship. “Humor is golden and can help in difficult times.” (Laughing together adds to intimacy!) Resources: Connect with Dr. Shoshana Bennett: Website Dr. Shosh's past Mom & Mind episodes: 2, 3, and 154 Books and the documentary: Children of the Depressed, Postpartum Depression for Dummies, Pregnant on Prozac, Beyond the Blues: A Guide to Understanding and Treating Prenatal and Postpartum Depression, and Dark Side of the Full Moon.
