We're stuffed from Thanksgiving and we don't have much NYCFC news EXCEPT of course on Monday New York City FC announced roster options for the 2018 season. Five players have had their options exercised – Kwame Awuah, Ronald Matarrita, Andre Rawls, Khiry Shelton and Ben Sweat. Who did not get their option exercised? RJ Allen, Frederic Brillant, Miguel Camargo, Shannon Gomez, Eirik Johansen, Mikey Lopez, Jefferson Mena, Sean Okoli, Andraz Struna, John Stertzer and Ethan White. Of these players cut who hurt you the most? Also who do you think could possibly be signed by the New York Red Bulls? Ouch! We discuss that plus take your Twitter questions.

Welcome to the first episode in 2017 of The NYCFC Nation Podcast! The usual crew is in house today along with special guest Nick Roloson. NYCFC109 Show link: http://thenycfcnation.com/2017/01/the-good-the-bad-and-the-eh/ After our initial discussion on what was the worst thing we've done to watch a soccer match we dig right into the announcement that RJ Allen and Thomas McNamara were given new contracts. NYCFC also loaned out Jefferson Mena over to Ecuadorian club Barcelona FC and have recently loaned in Miguel Camargo. Conner Brandt was also seen with fellow NYC players in social media and we speculate on what that could mean. How freaked out are we really that New York City FC hasn't spent money on improving the roster compared to the rest of the MLS League? We then move into the recent MLS Combine and some players that could be targeted by New York City FC. Is it at all possible that NYC trades up for a first round draft pick? Towards the end we play a game called The Good, The Bad and The Eh in regards to City Football Group's international scouting system for NYCFC. We finally wrap up talking about NASL, USL and the Fifa World Cup. Don't forget to give us a 5 star rating and review to help other New York City FC fans find the podcast. 90 Shades of Blue: Recapping our New York City FC in 90 seconds. In front of over 25 thousand fans New York City and FC Dallas played a not so pretty game ending at 2-2. In the 8th minute Tommy McNamara tapped in a shot to put NYC up 1-0 with a great feed by Ronald Matarrita and amazing header pass by Jack Harrison. Great Awareness and team work! Twelve minutes later, Dallas’ Maximiliano Urruti burns our defense and forces a shot into the net that Saunders could not deflect enough to tie the match at 1-1. Tied 1-1 at the half, City gave up an early goal when Michael Barrios is kept on sides AND much like McNamara’s first goal, easily taps it in. Dallas goes up 2-1. Though don’t count City out, not with fresh cut Shelton coming off the bench, when in the 78th minute Khiry slams in a beautiful header to tie the game 2-2 and all credit goes to Mr Jack Harrison who lobbed a beautiful cross into the box. End of game 2-2. Quick Points: Our fan base either likes or dislikes Mendoza. He certainly didn’t help himself when he missed a huge opportunity in the 93rd minute. Thankfully it was only to WIN the game, imagine if it was to tie. Great game by McNamara offensively. Yes I like McNamara starting over Mendoza and he nearly got another goal off corner kick during the second half. He was also the player defending Urruti on Dallas’ first goal and he was the man who kept Barrios on-sides for Dallas’ second goal. Talking about Poor game defensively…Jefferson Mena…gosh. The Colombian homer in me is fading for him. Should Hernandez start over Mena moving forward? I say no. What do you think? Hate on Josh Saunders as much as you want but this game he came through. The biggest of saves was against Tesho Akindele in the 90th minute which would of made it 3-2 for Dallas. Don’t forget to follow the podcast on Twitter @NYCFCPodcast and myself @TheAndresSoto Week Wrap up: NYC stays in 3rd place in the Eastern Division with 45 points and with a negative 1 goal differential. Toronto clinched a playoff spot with their 3-3 tie against the Red Bulls leaving them in first with 47 points and New Jersey in second with 45. Both teams have a positive 12 goal differential. Philadelphia who lost against Portland stays in 4th place and 4 points behind New York City. NYC's next game is Friday, September 23 vs. Chicago Fire who are currently in last place in the Eastern Division.
