After a week off for the Thanksgiving holiday, we are back and ready to talk about some Orlando City news. We would also be happy to talk about some Orlando Pride news, but there hasn't been much of that. So, we've got some moves by the club to discuss this week. We start with the addition of midfielder Felipe Martins, who was most recently with Austin FC and has had success elsewhere in his MLS career — particularly with the New York Red Bulls. We opine on the move overall, where Martins fits in with the Lions, and how the midfield is shaping up. Speaking of the midfield, Orlando City re-signed captain Mauricio Pereyra to a new two-year contract and he's no longer occupying a Designated Player slot, so that's a bonus. Mauri has been a good player for the club and it'll be good to have him around for a couple more years and it'll be even better if he's got a top-notch new DP to feed the ball to in 2023 and 2024. There was also a departure, albeit an expected one and not one that affects the roster as it stood at the end of the season. Alexander Alvarado's loan to LDU de Quito is now permanent and the winger is no longer on Orlando City's books. We wish Alexander the best of luck in Ecuador. The World Cup group stage is wrapping up and the United States Men's National Team is moving on into the Round of 16! We discuss the young Yanks' World Cup performances so far. It's encouraging to see a young team doing well on the big stage and although we'd obviously love to see the USMNT go as far as possible, we're more excited about the prospect of these guys being in their prime when the event is hosted in North America in 2026. This week's mailbag asked us who our favorite USMNT player is and what Orlando City needs to do this off-season. If there's anything — and we do mean anything — you want us to address on the next show, just ask by tweeting it to us at @TheManeLand with the hashtag #AskTMLPC. Programming Note: We are in our monthly off-season schedule for recording new episodes, but if the news cycle warrants it, we will of course put out new shows more frequently, as needed. In other words, we might be back in a week or a month. Stay safe and enjoy the show! Here's how No. 318 went down: 0:15 - Orlando City's off-season is in full swing and the team has been making moves. We talked about those that have been made and those still yet to come. 19:53 - The USMNT is through the group without having conceded from open play and without having tasted defeat. Those are good things, but this team still has another gear and we hope the Yanks can find it. 51:43 - Mailbagbox time! USMNT favorites and Orlando City's needs. Learn more about your ad choices. We're back! It's been a much-needed few weeks off as we transitioned into our off-season podcasting schedule, which is generally monthly unless the news cycle dictates we add shows. The off-season had been a quiet one for a couple of weeks and now things are happening, so here we are. Orlando City and the Orlando Pride each released their end-of-2022 roster decisions, so it gave us a chance to see how we did in terms of our predictions of which players would stay or go from both teams. We're doing pretty well so far and could pick up more “wins” depending on whether or not players who were offered new deals end up re-signing. We walk through the surprises and non-surprises and analyze what some of the moves might mean as the teams head into 2023. On the Orlando City side, we also discussed Pedro Gallese's award for MLS Save of the Year, the addition of defender Luca Petrasso from Toronto FC, the loss of Nicholas Gioacchini to St. Louis City SC in the MLS Expansion Draft, the loss of Junior Urso to whatever personal reasons prompted his return to Brazil, Facundo Torres making Uruguay's World Cup roster, and the rumors about Arsenal's interest in signing Torres. We also talked briefly about Jack Lynn being part of San Antonio FC, which won the USL Championship title in this week's final. Big congratulations to Jack and to former Lions Santiago Patino (the MVP of the final), David Loera, and P.C. This week's mailbag asked us when it's OK to put up Christmas decorations, whether we'd support Orlando City signing Josef Martinez, and what we thought of She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, Star Wars: Andor, and House of the Dragon. If there's anything — and we do mean anything — you want us to address on the next show, just ask by tweeting it to us at @TheManeLand with the hashtag #AskTMLPC. After answering the mail, we turned our attention toward the Orlando Pride. We are happy for Seb Hines on getting the head coaching gig, but is he set up to succeed? And should he have been hired prior to finding whoever is going to be his new boss? Speaking of that, we say goodbye to former Pride GM Ian Fleming, as the club has parted ways with him as part of the restructuring of that position. We discuss the re-signing of Ally Watt and Haley Hanson, and whether the club is really ready to walk the walk after talking the talk. Programming Note: We are in our monthly off-season schedule for recording new episodes, but if the news cycle warrants it, we will of course put out new shows more frequently, as needed. In other words, we might be back in a week or a month. Stay safe and enjoy the show! Here's how No. 317 went down: 0:15 - Lots of Orlando City news! We've got comings and goings and mild surprises with regard to the off-season roster decisions. Also, please keep Mikel Arteta away from Facu. 36:46 - Mailbagbox time! We only have a couple of questions but they required some thoughtful responses. We did our best with that. 1:00:26 - The Pride face another vital off-season and although a lot of good things have been said and positive things have happened, there's still a lot to be concerned about. Orlando City‘s season is over. The Lions were unceremoniously dumped by a team from a city where they call goals “buts” and they put mayonaisse on their cheeseburgers — on purpose! Orlando may have fallen to CF Montreal but that was a game that could have gone either way and it illustrates the importance of winning enough in the regular season to host games in the postseason. We break down the Lions' 2-0 loss to the Clubfoots and make our selections for Man of the Match. We also check in on our predictions to see how well we prognosticated the outcome. After a little discussion about the season and the kneejerk reactions some folks had to the bitter finality of the 2022 campaign, we reflect on how things went pretty well this year, all things considered, and how it sets up 2023. After that, we embark on our annual “stays or goes” predictions for both Orlando City and the Orlando Pride. If you're not familiar with this, it's what we do after every season, going through the roster, touching on each player's contract status (as best we can, in some cases), and trying to predict which players will be back and which ones won't (and sometimes opining a bit about it). This week's mailbag asked us about other teams and sports we follow, whether Oscar Pareja's job is in jeopardy, and which front office personnel we'd swap out if we could. We're not sure really how to answer that last one but we gave it a go anyway. If there's anything — and we do mean anything — you want us to address on the next show, just ask by tweeting it to us at @TheManeLand with the hashtag #AskTMLPC. Programming note: We'll be taking next week off to recharge our batteries a bit, unless some news breaks that we feel we must address without waiting a week. That could take many forms, but it might just be the end-of-season contract decisions, the hiring of an Orlando Pride coach, or something of that nature. But we really hope we're going to be off next week! Stay safe and enjoy the show! Here's how No. 316 went down: 0:15 - The season is over and everything is bad forever, or at least until it becomes good again. Our thoughts on the CF Montreal match, how it unfolded, and on the 2022 Orlando City season in general. 32:49 - It's time for our annual walk through the Orlando City and Pride rosters to try to figure out which players will stay and which ones will be gone when opening day arrives in 2023. There's a lot less guesswork involved when you have the actual contract durations, but there are no guarantees! 1:29:35 - The mailbag has a little bit of a defeatest tone overall this week but we're more than capable of meeting it with a stiff upper lip. Orlando City‘s week didn't start out so hot with a 4-1 thumping in South Florida putting the Lions outside the playoff picture, looking in. Facing a must-win game with neither starting center back due to Antonio Carlos' suspension and Robin Jansson's season-ending surgery, Orlando fell behind at home against Columbus and things were looking bleak. Then everything changed. Junior Urso and Benji Michel each pulled off perhaps their best touch of the ball all season in the second half against the Crew, leading the Lions back. Urso took care of his own finish, while Michel's shot drew a penalty for handball on Milos Degenek that Facundo Torres converted. Ultimately, after the officiating crew figured out who was supposed to be on the pitch for stoppage time, Orlando City clinched a postseason berth for the third consecutive year, jumping over the Crew. We've got our analysis of both matches and our selections for Man of the Match. There are plenty of accolades go go around. In less pleasant news, the Orlando Pride finally got a resolution to the investigation into Amanda Cromwell and Sam Greene. It did not go well, as allegations against both for verbal abuse, favoritism, and retaliation were substantiated and both are out of a job after their contracts were terminated by the NWSL. It's a black eye for the club and you can't say the hire had zero red flags, but this was still an unexpected end to a short coaching tenure. The Pride are looking for their next head coach and they must find someone who places the highest value on integrity, but who can also coach. We wish the Pride all the luck in the world with the search. The USWNT has had a terrible time in Europe over the last week and we touch on that a little but it too is a bit depressing at a time we want to be happy. This week's mailbag asked us to make Orlando City upgrades in the off-season, which team we would have chosen for a first-round match-up, and more. If there's anything — and we do mean anything — you want us to address on the next show, just ask by tweeting it to us at @TheManeLand with the hashtag #AskTMLPC. Finally, we previewed Orlando City's visit to Quebec this Sunday, where the Lions will face CF Montreal in a first-round MLS Cup playoff match. We gave our key match-ups for the game and made an attempt to predict the final score. Stay safe and enjoy the show! Here's how No. 315 went down: 0:15 - The Lions split two matches and squeaked into the playoffs. It was bad before it was good. And now there's a chance at another trophy, albeit a longshot. 48:27 - The Pride are without a head coach and the search is on after Cromwell and Greene were found to have abused their positions. The USWNT may be getting paid like the men but we wish they wouldn't have started to play like them. (OK, that was too mean. Sorry.) 1:04:39 - The mailbag is pretty full this week and we give our key match-ups and score predictions for Montreal. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices

Orlando City was a little groggy after the international break and despite taking a lead early in the second half against New York City FC, the Lions couldn't kill off the pesky Pigeons and conceded twice to lose a vital match in the chase for a playoff spot. That leaves Orlando in a precarious position with two matches left to play. Both are winnable, but both are also loseable and the Lions are not exactly in their best run of form after losing three of the last four. We break down the game at Red Bull Arena (seriously, build a damn stadium already, NYCFC!) and make our picks for Man of the Match from the 2-1 road loss. The Orlando Pride mercifully ended their tumultuous 2022 campaign by following their seven-game unbeaten run with a six-game winless skid to close the season. The Pride were never really in it against the Reign, who went on to win not only the game, but the NWSL Shield as well. It's going to be an interesting off-season for GM Ian Fleming and the Pride organization, and it sure would be nice if the league would let us know if Amanda Cromwell is out or not. We also touched on the depressing report by the independent investigation into player abuse in women's professional soccer and some of the horrific things that we learned from it and we just want the players to be safe. That's it. That's all that matters. This week's mailbag asked us to name names, and I did. We also explained how to achieve “friend of the pod” status and improved one aspect of five Orlando City players. Orlando City had a pair of split results at home since our last show, with a good performance overall but a severe lack of finishing in a 1-0 loss to Atlanta United during another wet, weather-delayed, midweek match. The Lions could just about have put the Five Stripes' playoff chances on life support but instead Atlanta is knocking on the door and Orlando has more to do if it wants to both clinch and perhaps challenge for a home postseason match. We break down the loss and select our Man of the Match. Things went much more to our liking on Saturday with Toronto FC coming to town looking to keep its faint playoff hopes alive. Instead, this time the Lions stuck the dagger in and eliminated the Reds with a 4-0 beatdown at home to go into the international break on a high note. It was Orlando's biggest regular-season win of the season and biggest ever win over Toronto. We were unanimous again in our Man of the Match selection and it wasn't Facundo Torres, even though he made the MLS Team of the Week, which can be stupid, for reasons we explain on the show. The Pride fell out of playoff contention with a third straight loss and second consecutive via shutout despite having some glorious early scoring chances at Louisville. The team gave it a valiant effort under Interim Head Coach Seb Hines but fizzled at the end of the season as the Pride have done in six of their seven seasons of existence. We discuss the road loss to Racing Louisville and prepare for the worst with North Carolina and San Diego coming in to try to feast on the scraps this week. OCB's season was figuratively over before but now it is literally over after the Young Lions blew a 1-0 lead late and lost 2-1 at home to Toronto FC II on Decision Day to close out their first MLS Next Pro season. While OCB can't hurt us anymore, it will be interesting to keep an eye on what happens with the players this off-season and if any Homegrown signings take place. Jack Lynn was shipped off to San Antonio in the USL Championship, where we hope he gets some playing time at the second tier level. This week's mailbag asked us to draft basketball teams from the Avengers and Justice League members, wanted us to describe MLS, and gave us the keys to a time machine. If there's anything — and we do mean anything — you want us to address on the next show, just ask by tweeting it to us at @TheManeLand with the hashtag #AskTMLPC. With the Lions off this weekend, there were no key match-ups or predictions for Orlando City this week. Stay safe and enjoy the show! Here's how No. 312 went down: 0:15 - The Lions suffered a loss but then got a win, so it was an even week and the team got a few points closer to the postseason but there is still a lot of work to do in the final three games of the season. 32:08 - The Pride and OCB continued to be bad this week and we are not pleased with this development (or lack of any development). 55:00 - We open the mail and for some reason, I had to pick last in a draft for no apparent reason just days after my birthday. Orlando City went and did the thing, winning the 2022 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup. The Lions claimed a trophy with a resounding (but difficult) 3-0 victory over Sacramento Republic FC thanks in large part to the efforts of Facundo Torres and Benji Michel in the final 15 minutes plus stoppage time. Most of The Mane Land staff was on hand to see this historic event and we're all still basking in the glow of a championship and the prospect of Orlando playing in the Concacaf Champions League. However, this is Central Florida and a little rain is going to fall, obviously. In this case it was allegations of spying lodged before the game by Sacramento. We'll have to keep an eye on what transpires from the investigation but at this point we're not expecting anything major to come from it and we hope that is the case. With the good and the bad comes the ugly, and this past week it was the treatment of Taylor Twellman on social media for the high crime of breaking unwelcome news. Others reported it without much more detail without the vitriol. Having just had a phone conversation with Twellman about Orlando City earlier in the day and having heard the compliments he gave our city and fans just a few hours before that news broke. He reiterated that online but with the unfortunate timing of it being right after his news-breaking tweet and it was met with some true ugliness. That was unfortunate. The Lions went to Philly and took a worse beating than we expected but not a surprising one, all things considered. We'll take the trade-off since it was always going to be a difficult fixture. Orlando City will turn its attention toward a vital two-game homestand now. The Pride lost their second straight — this one at home against the Portland Thorns. Seb Hines' team has no margin for error in the playoff chase and must get a result in Louisville to realistically stay in the fight. OCB played like a team that had just been eliminated from playoff contention with a 6-1 beating at Philadelphia Union II. Honestly, the less said about the Young Lions' match on Sunday, the better. This week's mailbag asked whether college sports are best enjoyed at home or in person. If there's anything — and we do mean anything — you want us to address on the next show, just ask by tweeting it to us at @TheManeLand with the hashtag #AskTMLPC. Finally, we gave our key match-ups and predictions for Orlando City's upcoming home matches against Atlanta United and Toronto FC. Stay safe and enjoy the show! Here's how No. 311 went down: 0:15 - The Lions got a shiny trinket for the trophy case but the buildup wasn't without drama and we address all of it. 48:07 - Orlando City got whacked by a team that's been whacking everyone, the Pride seem to be back to their pre-unbeaten-streak form, and OCB was awful on Sunday. 1:16:53 - We open the mail and look ahead to Atlanta and Toronto. Orlando City SC found a new way to win last Wednesday, falling behind 2-0 to the Seattle Sounders — a team the Lions had never previously beaten — and then rallying back from two goals down to win, 3-2. That happened despite Mauricio Pereyra missing a penalty kick in the first half that would have pulled the Lions level before the break. The team continues to show resiliency and found a way to win despite rotating the squad and falling behind. We break down Orlando's fourth consecutive victory and second straight at home and make our selections for Man of the Match. Another Lion made MLS Team of the Week, so we mentioned that as well. Benji Michel dropped by to talk about the team's U.S. Open Cup final tonight against Sacramento Republic, which is a special moment for the Orlando native and OCSC Homegrown Player. He also touched on the team's ongoing winning streak and why the team just keeps finding ways to win at the end of games in recent weeks. Big thanks to Benji for his time. The Orlando Pride were off this week but they'll be back in action Friday night at home in a critical match against the Portland Thorns. Every point is precious if the Pride are to keep their postseason hopes alive for 2022. OCB, however, is officially eliminated from playoff contention after the Young Lions fell 2-0 at New England Revolution II. It's been a bit of an up-and-down first season in MLS NEXT Pro for OCB but hopefully the player development side will pay dividends. This week's mailbag invited us for drinks, asked us about tifos, and wants our advice on pregame festivities.
