Orlando City said goodbye to team captain Nani this past week, as the Lions declined to exercise the Portuguese talisman's contract option. So the club will have at least two Designated Player slots open this off-season pending a decision on Mauricio Pereyra. The Lions will have a new captain in 2022 and we look back at Nani's career in Orlando. The club also made a new hire in adding Jarrod Dillon to the newly created position of president of business operations. The Wilf family is already showing a commitment to doing things a little differently in the front office. To that end, Amanda Duffy is no longer with the Orlando Pride, but the Pride may be closer to hiring a new head coach — one that has a history of success and is quite familiar with the city of Orlando. We also did our annual roster predictions. This season we actually know most of the contract statuses of the players, so we might not get quite as many wrong, but there are still some unknowns and that always makes things dicey. We go player-by-player through both the Orlando City and Orlando Pride rosters to try to determine who will be on the roster when the 2022 season arrives. This week's mailbag asked about the best way to watch the films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. This is a question right up Dave Rohe's alley and it turns out we're on the same page. If there's anything — and we do mean anything — you want us to address on the next show, just ask by tweeting it to us at @TheManeLand with the hashtag #AskTMLPC. That's all for this week and we're definitely taking next week off barring something unforeseen, because I'll be traveling. Stay safe and enjoy the show! Here's how No. 274 went down: 0:15 - Orlando City will have a new captain in 2022 and at least one new Designated Player, if not more. Plus, lots of Pride and front office news. 31:49 - We go through the Orlando City and Pride rosters, discuss the contracts, and try to determine which players will stay and which will go. Orlando City had its season end Tuesday on a chilly night on a terrible football field with a 3-1 playoff loss at Nashville SC. There are worse ways to end an MLS season but the nerves are a little raw at the moment so Dave Rohe and I do our best to take an objective look at the team's first-ever road playoff match and talk about the adversity the Lions overcame to even get to that point. Only one MLS team ends the season happy and unfortunately this year it's not ours. We dive into all the key moments in the match, talk about who we thought didn't play well, discuss why the substitution pattern was a little bit different than a regular game, and select our Man of the Match. We were united on this one. The 2022 season has effectively already begun for Orlando City and we look ahead to the Lions' first two matches of the coming year. Once again, Orlando will start the season within the friendly confines of their own building — for the eighth consecutive season — and then they'll hit the road. This week's mailbag asked about Nani's future with Orlando City and whether or not he'll be a Designated Player or come back to the Lions as a Targeted Allocation Money re-signing. We can't spoil our stays/goes segment just yet but we do have an answer. If there's anything — and we do mean anything — you want us to address on the next show, just ask by tweeting it to us at @TheManeLand with the hashtag #AskTMLPC. That's all for this week. Stay safe and enjoy the show! Here's how No. 273 went down: 0:15 - Orlando City went to Nashville seeking a little retribution for stolen points from the Halloween Heist. Instead, it was more anger, but at least this time the Lions are probably a little more upset with themselves than the referee. 31:51 - We have some stuff to say about Alexandre Pato's few minutes on the field Tuesday night, we discuss the 2022 season opener and first road game, and hit the mailbag. Happy Thanksgiving, everyone. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices

Orlando City reached the postseason without a single player or a head coach deemed worthy of being a finalist for an MLS award for 2021. That's quite a feat! We discuss the MLS Awards finalists and talk a little about the job Oscar Pareja did over the course of the year. We also talked about the persistent Daryl Dike-to-England rumors and I propose an idea. The United States Men's National Team took care of business against Mexico in Cincinnati with another #DosACero and the third win over its archrival during the calendar year. There will be people moping about two dropped points in a 1-1 draw at Jamaica but it's all part of this young team's growth — learning how to respond after an emotional win. That's it for qualifying until 2022, so those four points of a possible six will have to do. With no Orlando Pride news to discuss, we also talked about the upsets in the NWSL playoffs and how interesting the final looks now that the two favorites are out. Good luck to the Washington Spirit and Chicago Red Stars. This week's mailbag asked about some Orlando City youngsters and whether or not they will see the field more in 2022. There was also a question about contract options and we kicked the can a little bit because we can't spoil our annual “stays or goes” show. If there's anything — and we do mean anything — you want us to address on the next show, just ask by tweeting it to us at @TheManeLand with the hashtag #AskTMLPC. That's all for this week. Orlando City is back in the postseason! The Lions went to Canada knowing they needed a result on the road against a stubborn CF Montreal side that they hadn't managed to beat in two previous match-ups in their own stadium. It was a daunting task, as almost every MLS road match is, but it was especially difficult after coming off an emotional letdown at the end of the Nashville game against a desperate Montreal team that needed to win to get in. But Oscar Pareja got the minds of his players right and they took care of business north of the border against CF Montreal in a 2-0 win. The Lions withstood the early Montreal energy and press and managed to hold on until the offense could get a foothold, with Sebas Mendez scoring a spectacular golazo and Daryl Dike adding insurance late in the match with his 10th goal of the season. Dave Rohe and I break down the regular season finale and make our Man of the Match selections. We're split this week but either of us could have made the other's pick. We also discussed Orlando City's playoff scenario and why the postseason road could have been much tougher even though the Lions will be on the road for all but one possible match-up in the East. The West had a crazy Decision Day and we touch on that as well. This week's mailbag asked about Chris Mueller, our favorite sports playoff moments, and what a Bizarro World with Dike in Miami would have looked like this season. If there's anything — and we do mean anything — you want us to address on the next show, just ask by tweeting it to us at @TheManeLand with the hashtag #AskTMLPC. That's all for this week. Stay safe and enjoy the show! Here's how No. 271 went down: 0:15 - Orlando City spoils Montreal's postseason hopes while making their own playoff dreams come true in a solid road performance. 35:15 - A walk through the final standings and what they mean for Orlando City's road to MLS Cup, and no, we're not getting ahead of ourselves. Why do you ask? 56:57 - Our mailbag has questions and if we don't give the answers, well, who will? Some other podcast, I guess. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices

Orlando City was far too lackadaisical in allowing preventable early goals in its 3-2 loss at the Columbus Crew in the midweek, which placed even more importance on Sunday's match against Nashville SC. And then, well, that happened. It won't bring Orlando City fans much comfort to know their team did just enough to win that match on Sunday because the customary — and important! — points that come with wins will not be awarded. Referee Allen Chapman saw to that. While one can usually simply point to incompetence rather than malice (after all, this is a match official who did not understand the shootout rules in last year's Orlando City vs. New York City FC playoff game), it's difficult to see Chapman's decision as mere ineptitude in this case because there is a standard to be met of “clear and obvious” required to overturn the call on the field that cannot reasonably be said to exist. Dave Rohe and I break down the road loss and the home win that only netted one point due to Chapman's Halloween Heist of the other two, and make our selections for Man of the Match for each game. We discuss where that leaves the Lions with one match left to play and how Chapman ruined a storybook contribution from Alexandre Pato. We also discuss the Orlando Pride's season-ending loss to the Chicago Red Stars on Friday. That 1-0 loss ends the once-promising 2021 Pride campaign on a five-game losing streak. We talk about where the club goes from here and some roster moves that have already taken place. This week's mailbag asked about Pedro Gallese, and, for some reason, referee accountability (can't imagine why). If there's anything — and we do mean anything — you want us to address on the next show, just ask by tweeting it to us at @TheManeLand with the hashtag #AskTMLPC. We close the show with our key match-ups and score predictions for Orlando City at Montreal on Decision Day. That's all for this week. Stay safe and enjoy the show! Here's how No. 270 went down: 0:15 - Columbus finally got a win in the series at perhaps the worst popular time after five straight losses to Orlando and way too much talk about the Halloween Heist (please congratulate me on keeping the podcast kid-friendly because it was an exercise in restraint on my part). 55:08 - The Pride have a lot to accomplish this off-season after finishing the year on a five-game skid, starting with a coaching search and ending with a retooling of the side. 1:11:05 - Our mailbag and predictions for Decision Day. Orlando City had a rough week in terms of dropping points in the second half but still managed to add to the team's point total as the Lions continue their pursuit of a second straight playoff year. Montreal is a stubborn opponent and the Revs just have so much quality that these weren't the worst draws of the season although they feel like more of the ‘loss' variety of draw than the ‘win' type. But the Lions can't cry over spilt points with two more matches coming up quickly. Dave Rohe and I break down the two home draws from the past week and make our Man of the Match selections from each. We were unanimous both times with our picks, and that's been happening a lot lately. Whether that's a good thing or a bad thing is up for you to decide. The United States Women's National Team was in action last week and we talk about that 0-0 draw and the Pride players on international duty heading into the team's 2021 season finale this Friday at home against Chicago. This week's mailbag asked about being stuck on a desert island, who might be next to retire from the USWNT, and the College Football Playoff. Orlando City returned to the pitch on Saturday after a two-week layoff and while it would be wrong to say the Lions didn't miss a beat, they at least captured all three vital points in a road match-up with FC Cincinnati. The win was a lot more difficult than it needed to be, due in part to the Lions' play in the second half and partly due to no one being able to look at a monitor long enough to see whether Tesho Akindele's crossbar ricochet fully crossed the line (we certainly thought so), but winning in a place the team has never previously won is always good. We break down the win and make our Man of the Match selections. We also dive a little into the USMNT's crucial win over Costa Rica and how Gregg Berhalter's team is positioned in the Octagonal after the close of the international window. The Orlando Pride played twice since our last show and things did not go well. The Pride will not be heading to the postseason after dropping games in Chicago and Louisville. The team has little to play for with one match remaining in what turned into a disappointing season after the Pride had sat atop the table at the one-third-season mark. We discuss the two matches and dive into what Ian Fleming and the Pride brass have to do to get this team to the next level. This week's mailbag gave us a lot of work to do on deciding which eight teams we think will make the MLS postseason from the Eastern Conference. If there's anything — and we do mean anything — you want us to address on the next show, just ask by tweeting it to us at @TheManeLand with the hashtag #AskTMLPC. Here's how No. 268 went down: 0:15 - Junior Urso's goal was just enough to keep Orlando's unbeaten run going Saturday and now the competition gets tougher even if it is at home. Plus, Berhalter's got the USMNT in a good spot so let's just see how things play out. 31:56 - The Pride are toast for 2021 and so they will spend the postseason at home yet again. Orlando City was off this week so we don't have the Lions to recap, but that doesn't mean we took the week off with them. Oh, no. Our show is about the same length as it usually is. So what did we talk about? The Orlando Pride had a key match-up in the NWSL playoff race against Gotham FC and it did not go well. The Pride made the final score more respectable and had a shot at stealing a late point but Orlando came up just short by a post. But even if that final shot had gone in, there have been some worrying trends over the last two matches for the Pride. The team has allowed the most goals in a game this season in back-to-back games, lost consecutive games for the first time since Becky Burleigh took over, gave up a goal in the third minute for the second straight match, and hasn't been getting goals from Alex Morgan and Sydney Leroux during this recent skid. We're still hopeful the Pride can pull out of this recent slide and get back above the playoff line but it won't be easy. We talk about the remaining schedule, the overall playoff picture, and the oddly timed re-signing of midfielder Emily van Egmond, who may not even get her international paperwork to go through before it's too late for her to help Orlando in 2021. Dave Rohe and I also spoke about the United States Men's National Team's performances in the first two World Cup qualifiers in this three-match international window. The Concacafing couldn't stop the Yanks against Jamaica but then they turned right around and failed to take anything home from Panama on Sunday. Tonight's match looms as a must-win now to keep the team on track and above the qualification line. This week's mailbag asks about MLS expansion teams. If there's anything — and we do mean anything — you want us to address on the next show, just ask by tweeting it to us at @TheManeLand with the hashtag #AskTMLPC. We close the show with our key match-ups and score predictions for Orlando City at FC Cincinnati this week and then we have a spoiler warning prior to our Ted (Lasso) Talk about Season 2, as requested by a listener last week. That's all for this week. Stay safe and enjoy the show! Here's how No. 267 went down: 0:15 - The Orlando Pride are giving up early goals, lots of additional goals, and their big guns aren't scoring. Still, this team is in the hunt and it has lost all margin for error with three games left. 26:30 - The USMNT split its first two games of this international window and now must get something from the Costa Rica match tonight to avoid big issues deeper in the qualification cycle. 48:16 - We give you multiple warnings before launching into our spoiler-filled discussion of Season 2 of Ted Lasso. Orlando City picked the most dramatic ways to stop the bleeding this past week. The Lions roared back from two goals down on the road, scoring the equalizer in stoppage time to draw 2-2 at Nashville SC in the midweek. Then, on Saturday, Orlando improved on that by scoring a game winner deep in stoppage time in a 2-1 home win over D.C. United. The end of a four-game losing streak, followed by the end of a five-game winless streak, was a welcome sight. Neither of those was easy, but Orlando City found a way to get it done and Oscar Pareja was jubilant to see his team get back in the win column on Saturday. Daryl Dike is a big reason why, with a goal in three consecutive games. Dave Rohe and I broke down both results, which have left the Lions in a good place now that the international break is here. While the team would no doubt love to try to continue its positive momentum, there is nothing wrong with stopping at a good spot and maybe getting some guys healthy and rested for a vital final stretch run. We also talked about Dike's iconic goal celebration and how it stacked up against another favorite in the team's history. The Orlando Pride did not play on the road at Chicago this past week as the fallout of the Paul Riley news and subsequent departure of Lisa Baird as NWSL commissioner had ripple effect throughout a league that is trying to recover from a collective trauma and move forward in a way that both makes sense and, most importantly, protects its players from predatory behavior. That protection means nothing if the system that can stop such behavior is fundamentally broken, flawed, or flat out misused by those in charge. We wish nothing but the best for the NWSL's talented players and demand that the NWSL finds some system-wide fixes. This week's mailbag asks about Orlando City and Pride versions of player Mount Rushmores, scary movies, halftime shows, and comebacks. If there's anything — and we do mean anything — you want us to address on the next show, just ask by tweeting it to us at @TheManeLand with the hashtag #AskTMLPC. We close the show with some USMNT World Cup qualifier discussion about the roster, some key injuries, and the upcoming matches. That's all for this week. Stay safe and enjoy the show! Here's how No. 266 went down: 0:15 - Orlando City left it late both times but got a draw and a win against top Eastern Conference competition. It was stressful, but we'll take it. 39:48 - The NWSL has some extremely important business to take care of in the wake of the Paul Riley news that dropped last week. It must answer for what was done and it must make sure it does everything it can to prevent it in the future. Plus, our mailbag and some USMNT talk. Learn more about your ad choices. Orlando City lost its fourth straight match on Saturday and yet somehow it felt a lot less terrible than some of the other recent losses. The league-leading New England Revolution are formidable, especially in their own building (with the awful football lines and plastic grass), but the Lions did play mostly well in the match. We break down the game, including some tough bounces, calls, and slips that helped the Revs get the 2-1 result. And yes, we do discuss penalty kicks as well. And, as usual, we select our Man of the Match. The Orlando Pride got clobbered 3-0 at OL Reign and while a result on the other corner of the continent against a team in good form was never going to be easy, it sure seemed at least possible until the opening whistle blew. Orlando's slow starts cost them dearly in this one and it wasn't until the game was out of reach when the Pride started playing soccer. This week's mailbag asked whether former FC Dallas coach Luchi Gonzalez could join Oscar Pareja and Luiz Muzzi in Orlando, who from the Pride should be poached for a professional co-ed soccer club, and which players would be the ideal starting XI for the upcoming USMNT qualifiers. If there's anything — and we do mean anything — you want us to address on the next show, just ask by tweeting it to us at @TheManeLand with the hashtag #AskTMLPC. We close the show with our key match-ups and score predictions for Orlando City at Nashville SC tonight and vs. D.C. United at Exploria Stadium on Saturday. That's all for this week. Stay safe and enjoy the show! Here's how No. 265 went down: 0:15 - Orlando City lost again but didn't look nearly as bad as some recent matches and at least the Lions finished with 11 men, which is kind of an improvement. 34:17 - The Pride got blown out in Washington state, our mailbag confuses and perplexes us, and we try to predict what's going to happen at Nashville and at home against D.C. Orlando City is sliding down the mountain right now and needs to find its ice axe to try to arrest its rapid descent before something catastrophic happens. The Lions had two matches in the past week and while they stopped scoring goals on themselves, they still can't stop the other team from doing it and they also seem averse to finishing with 11 men on the pitch. None of this is particularly good but we have to talk about it anyway. We do, but under protest. The Orlando Pride, meanwhile, were off this week for the international break. Alex Morgan was an exception though and she was exceptional in scoring a hat trick in the second of two friendlies against Paraguay. Her performance Tuesday night hopefully has her confidence soaring ahead of the Pride's trip to play OL Reign this weekend. It's the most difficult road trip remaining in the regular season and coming home with any points would be a huge step toward the NWSL postseason. This week's mailbag was quite full, with questions about Orlando City's current form, the fact that no one could seemingly stand up last Wednesday vs. Montreal, movies that set the tone in the first scene, and more. If there's anything — and we do mean anything — you want us to address on the next show, just ask by tweeting it to us at @TheManeLand with the hashtag #AskTMLPC. Orlando City did not have a good week and we'd quite frankly rather not talk about it. However, since that's literally what we do, we didn't have a lot of choice in the matter and instead ranted a bit about the effort shown by the Lions in a rivalry match on the road in Atlanta last Friday. We struggled to find a Man of the Match but in the end we came up with our picks, but only begrudgingly. There was also transfer news this week as David Loera went out on loan to Phoenix in the USL Championship. The Orlando Pride got off to another slow start but then jumped on Racing Louisville and with all three attacking stars — Sydney Leroux, Marta, and Alex Morgan — getting on the scoresheet, it was a night to remember for the club's NWSL team. We would happily take a few more three-goal games from the Pride, who haven't exactly lit up the scoreboard in 2021. That said, the Pride are in an excellent spot with five matches left to play. Let's see if Becky Burleigh can get the team over the finish line while remaining above the playoff line. The USWNT called up Morgan, and hopefully Stars & Stripes will return her in better condition this time than they did after the Olympics. This week's mailbag asked about some Ted Lasso stuff, whether our listeners jinxed Mason Stajduhar, and unsung heroes for the Lions and the Pride. If there's anything — and we do mean anything — you want us to address on the next show, just ask by tweeting it to us at @TheManeLand with the hashtag #AskTMLPC. Stay safe and enjoy the show! Here's how No. 263 went down: 0:15 - Orlando City was bad on Friday but the Lions also didn't look particularly excited in a rivalry match-up against Atlanta. It showed on the scoreboard. 25:24 - The Pride sent Louisvlle back home with no points and you love to see it. 43:02 - We answer our listener mail and give our predictions for the Lions vs. Montreal and Orlando City at Philly. Tonight the gang gather around to discuss the recent 3-0 thrashing of Orlando City. A game that left Atlanta United without both Josef Martinez and Miles Robinson, yet they found a way to get a much needed result against the worst team in MLS. Wins against both of them could catapult the 5 Stripes into playoff position.
