La responsabilidad individual del agresor no puede ser diluida mediante excusas tácticas o ambientales. La UEFA ya ha tomado cartas en el asunto abriendo una investigación oficial basada en el Artículo 14 de su reglamento disciplinario. Este inspector analizará el comportamiento de Pestriani, el jugador del club luso acusado de llamar mono hasta en cinco ocasiones al delantero brasileño. De confirmarse los hechos, el futbolista podría enfrentarse a una sanción mínima de diez partidos de suspensión, un castigo que busca erradicar estas lacras del deporte profesional. El Benfica, por su parte, ha emitido un comunicado defendiendo a su jugador y publicando un vídeo que los tertulianos han calificado de manipulado y patético.
