We joined Shades of Blue, the internet's finest Manchester City FC podcast, to talk about the UEFA Women's Champions League. There's obviously a fair amount of MCFC discussion here, but we talk about several other teams in the tournament, as well. We covered a lot of ground from what happened in Round 1 of qualifying to the draw for Round 2, so here are the highlights: Manchester City drew Paris FC, and the City fans on the show are not psyched about it because Paris FC is very good Arsenal drew BK Häcken, and Dino's not thrilled with it because BK Häcken is very good! This tournament is tough, and it's normal for excellent teams to be knocked out before reaching the group stage When discussing Ajax, Grant foolishly said Lily Yohannes was born in "Maryland" before correcting himself and correctly saying she was born in Virginia (Sorry, Lily, Dan, and the whole Yohannes squad) Juventus and PSG is going to be a great set of ties: Can Mary Earps make the difference? Wolfsburg vs. Fiorentina should be a good battle And much more! Thank you again to Shady Gang over at Shades of Blue for having us on their fine program. “Man, sometimes it takes you a long time to sound like yourself,” Miles Davis once remarked. Most artists, of course, never ascend to the heights of even closely sounding like themselves. But as James Kaplan, the author of 3 SHADES OF BLUE, argues, Davis, John Coltrane and Bill Evans did get to sound like themselves in their studio album, Kind of the Blue. That's the metaphysical truth of the 1959 recording, Kaplan explains. And, in a way, the three men paid for this astonishing miracle with their lives, both as men and artists. But at least they got to the mountain top. Thus the immortality of both the 65 year-old album and Miles Davis, John Coltrane and Bill Evans. James Kaplan's essays, stories, reviews, and profiles have appeared in numerous magazines, including The New Yorker, The New York Times Magazine, Vanity Fair, Esquire, and New York. His novels include Pearl's Progress and Two Guys from Verona, a New York Times Notable Book for 1998. His nonfiction works include The Airport, You Cannot Be Serious (coauthored with John McEnroe), Dean & Me: A Love Story (with Jerry Lewis), Frank: The Voice, and Sinatra: The Chairman. There are ways to improve this going forward, but with the help of the best player of all time, the Leagues Cup was a massive hit. Sporting KC has nine games left to right the ship and get into the playoffs. 27 points on the board mean a lot can change, but the margin for error is thin. The next two matches are at home against San Jose and St. Louis and the remaining schedule is full of contenders. SKC simply MUST start off the final stretch on the right foot. The Spanish Women's National Team won the World Cup over England, in spite of all the problems between the players and the federation. It's a truly wild story, and incredible those women were able to overcome all of it to win. But the federation took a jab before the players had left the field. The Current and SKCII picked up 1-0 wins. Benny's Boys are in fourth place at the moment. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

If the reporting is to be trusted, Alan Pulido is set to sign a new deal to return with Sporting KC. The deal would double his current salary $4.4 million. A hefty price to pay for an aging, injury prone player. On this episode of Shades of Blue, we look at the logic of bringing back the Mexican striker. "A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush," is essentially what they're going with. Pulido is a lethal goal scorer in MLS. He's proven to be a bargain at his current salary when he is actually on the field. IF he can stay on the field. And that's a big risk. After the US Women's National Team crashed out of the World Cup by way of penalty kicks, it's become clear PK's are stupid. How do we fix it? Old school MLS style shootouts? Set pieces? The Americans dominated Sweden in regulation. The first shot on goal from the Swedish side was in the 85th minute. But they let us down with some ugly kicks from the spot and a heartbreaking goal-line technology winner. Where do they go from here? What's next for Vlatko? The KC Current finished their group of the Challenge Cup with the top spot. Kristen "Hammy" Hamilton notched a brace in the 3-0 win over Racing Louisville. Don't mess around with Ruth Langmore. We listen to a story from the BSI Podcast about our new favorite coach, Veljko Paunović, who gave us the soundbite of the year last week. Sporting KC were hammered by Toluca 4-1. Whoever doubted the Leagues Cup!? Sporting KC advanced out of a very difficult group featuring the two current best teams in MLS and Liga MX. And they did it with a very impressive 1-0 win over Chivas, while missing their start striker. We hear all the accents with postgame audio from Johnny Russell, Remi Walter, Peter Vermes, and our favorite soundbite of the year from Chivas head coach Veljko Paunovic. The USWNT advanced the Knockout Round of the Women's World Cup after being saved by the post in a scoreless draw with Portugal. The loss that was a draw against FC Cincinnati on Sunday was yet another painful result after being in a winning position. It's a trend for Sporting KC for years now, but it's hitting harder this season. SKC has dropped more points from winning positions than anyone in Major League Soccer. Where are you pointing the finger after the latest disappointment? Messimania has taken over MLS. Is it too much? Can there be "too much" for the Greatest Player of All Time? The USWNT kicked off the World Cup with a 3-0 win against Vietnam. A much younger US squad than the final four years ago will take on the Netherlands on Wednesday night. (Hollywood, CA) On June 13, 2023, the classic American radio show gets a modern twist, as TV, Broadway and Rock stars join forces for the new musical: A FALLING STAR AT BUZZARD'S ROOST. Non-profit radio theatre company OPEN-DOOR PLAYHOUSE -- a 501c3 giving voice to new writers and actors -- proudly premieres this show, sponsored in part byShure Audio International and produced by Stage For A New Age (in cooperation with We Make Movies Productions). A FALLING STAR AT BUZZARD'S ROOST is the tale of a microphone, a meteorite and true love that transcends time! The story is set in a combination drive in/diner in Sylacauga, Alabama that famously shows the worst sci-fi movies ever made and boasts a small piece of a meteorite that historically fell on Anne Hodges in 1954. When Gabby's best friend Mo brings her Hollywood band The Flutterbyes to town, they plug in a vintage microphone once used by Elvis that mysteriously opens a wormhole in space and transports the cast back in time. Will Gabby learn hidden secrets of her family's past? Will Mo find love at first sight? How will Gabby, Mo and The Flutterbyes find their way back home to 2023? How did real life suddenly become another bad sci-fi movie? Running just under 90 minutes, A FALLING STAR AT BUZZARD'S ROOST, is divided into four episodes (with ridiculous commercials) to allow fans to listen wherever and whenever they can.THE CAST:• Comedy greats Dave Foley (KIDS IN THE HALL, NEWS RADIO, YOUNG SHELDON) and Gary Anthony Williams (RENO 911,  THE OUTLAW JOHNNY BLACK, BOONDOCKS);• TV bad boy/hearthrob Antonio Jaramillo (MAYANS M.C., SHADES OF BLUE);• Broadway actresses Crissy Guerrero (IN THE HEIGHTS), Kacee Clanton (A NIGHT WITH JANIS) and Maureen Davis (INTO THE WOODS)• LA theatre royalty, Aaron Lyons (PULP SHAKESPEARE);• Newly-infamous all girl, all star sextet THE FLUTTERBYES (Maureen Davis, Sonia Sanchez, Claire Gohst, Paula Keane,Emi Desire, Roni Lee) whose collective concert credits include DICK DALE, BERLIN, VAN HALEN, JOAN JETT, BIG BADVOODOO DADDY, DEKE DICKERSON, JAMES INTVELD and BIG SANDY.A FALLING STAR AT BUZZARD'S ROOST was recorded at Studiopolis in Los Angeles by acclaimed voiceover engineerBryan Showalter and veteran voiceover artist and director Richard Malmos. Custom Foley sound effects were created by Jeffrey Gardner (The Kennedy Center, LA Theatreworks and Cecily Strong's lauded "Search For Sign's of Intelligent Life" at the Center Theatre Group).Dave Rodgers cowrote the script with Davis. Rodgers -- assistant to Anne Bancroft and now Mel Brooks -- also collaborated on the musical “Valley of Kings,” with Dan Studney and Kevin Murphy (author of REEFER MADNESS and HEATHERS musicals). The soundtrack is comprised of several songs released by three bands fronted by Davis: the afore-mentioned THE FLUTTERBYES; Alt Country Outlaws THE FLUTTERBIES; and Rockabilly Darlings MAUREEN & THE MERCURY 5. Two songs were previously and prominently featured in the George Clooney's Oscar-Winning movie, THE DESCENDENTS. Music producers were: Claire Gohst, Scotty Lund, Sylvain Carton, Bart Ryan and Grammy-winner Seth Atkins Horan, A sample listening list can be found on Spotify here: https://spoti.fi/2Ecgu4LSupport the show

Sporting Kansas City twice had the lead and twice gave up the equalizer late in each half. David Greenwald, Robert Rusert and Thad Bell talk about the draw with the Houston Dynamo. The lack of offense from anyone not named Gadi or Alan is a topic and the defensive lapses in stoppage time that robbed KC of 3 points. While not affecting the score, the fact that Ferreira escapes with a yellow after a big shove on Gadi Kinda is a topic. Sporting KC's odds to make the playoffs are on the rise. will thet make it? is 61% to make the playoffs per 538. 52% to make round 1. The standings still look tough for SKC.
