The first ever live recording of the Strange Wolves podcast comes to you from Fat Tony's Barbershop and Café ( https://fattonyslifestyle.com/ ) If you think this means the guys have sold out their principles, you're wrong. They never had any principles. John and Vinny ask some questions that are maybe not in the best interests of a regional MMA podcast from Galway, that lasts for two hours. 1) Has everyone lost interest in MMA? 2) Who's got time to spend hours on all this extra MMA related content? The public setting allows for the first ever guest slot on the show, with Naomi dropping in to answer questions with more grace than they deserved. Tom's top 5 concerns the best (?) drug cheats in MMA. Another guest / Tony's employee teaches John and Vinny what a boomerang is, and then there's an extended discussion of everyone's lingering injuries. Middle-aged Martial Arts? Which MMA fighter would you like to go for a pint with? Marcus would rather go thirsty than drink with Frank Mir. An hour and a half in, Vinny want to "change the subject slightly", and the talk about some MMA. Make of that what you will. The movie review this month is John Carpenter's Big Trouble in Little China. It's a goddamn classic, and I won't hear a word against it, Marcus.

John Carpenter's Big Trouble in Little China (1986) tells the story of Wang Chi (Dennis Dun), a restaurateur whose finance, Miao Lin (Suzee Pai), gets kidnapped by the nefarious forces of David Lo Pan (James Hong), a seemingly innocent old man who is actually the embodiment of the evil spirit of Lo Pan, a demon who needs a woman with green eyes in order to become corporeal again and begin his reign of terror on earth. And, there are some other white people involved in the story, too. Tony Black and Vincenzo Natali join Mike to discuss this bizarre mash-up of Chinese mysticism and American action that only W.D. Richter could write.

Director Jeff Balsmeyer was an American film storyboard artist itching to make his writing and directing debut.  His passion project was Danny Deckchair, a romantic comedy based on the real life adventure of California dreamer Larry Walters who tied helium balloons to a lawn chair to lift off into the sky over Long Beach in 1982.  After ten years of shopping the idea around and having recently married an Aussie and relocated there, Balsmeyer made and set his film in Australia.  Brit Rhys Ifans was chosen to play Danny, Justine Clarke came on as Trudy, his frustrated girlfriend, and Miranda Otto was a natural fit for Glenda, the new woman that comes into his life.   Dan and Vicky discuss this low budget charmer from 2004.  Vicky catches us up on her participation in the post-inauguration NYC Woman's March and all her recent viewing including the films Patriots Day, Creed, Midnight Cowboy and the Count Yorga films and the TV shows Sherlock, Smash and Netflix's A Series of Unfortunate Events.  Dan tells us about his new off-Broadway show, Mother of Invention, and some of his recent watches including John Carpenter's Big Trouble in Little China and Memoirs of an Invisible Man, the recent big screen Passengers and The Bye Bye Man, the documentary Rats and TV shows Channel Zero and The Exorcist.   We also read our first listener e-mail in a long time! Soar with Hot Date 44 and Danny Deckchair on this Aussie flight of fancy.  Leave us some feedback.

You can feel the rad is risin', baby...This week Kyle, Matthew and Producer Natalie celebrate Kyle's birthday by recording an audio commentary for John Carpenter's Big Trouble in Little China. Carpenter expert and previous podcast guest Kasey Clark sits in with the gang, and there is a special drop-in from Kyle and Kasey's dad, Greg Clark. Natalie and Matthew don't get the movie's appeal but Kyle and Kasey love this childhood VHS staple starring the rugged, sandwich-chewing Jack Burton (Kurt Russell) and a pre-Sex and the City Kim Cattrall, not to mention Wang Chi, David Lo Pan, Egg Shen and the spirits Thunder, Rain and Lightning. It's a neon-filled romp with a theme song that's catchy as hell. Join us for a ride on the Pork-Chop Express! John Carpenter's Big Trouble in Little China is a classic cinematic combo platter of 80's machismo and Chinese mysticism. Kurt Russell became a cult hero...AGAIN...with his masterful interpretation of Jack Burton, the cocky hero who really isn't nearly as heroic as he thinks he is. This episode of Remake This Movie RIGHT takes on this immortal film, and we go where no remake has gone before! Listen this week as we remake a movie that is already more bonkers than anything we could come up with. We have waited long enough to tackle this monster, and now that we've paid our dues, it's time to Remake This Movie RIGHT!
