Simon Bowkett is joined by Colin McAllister of John Clark Motor Group and Darren Bedford of Symco Training for a proper after sales conversation. They get into service plans and retention, the golden hour, how quickly a VHC video needs to reach the customer, and what happens to the job when authorisation lands three hours too late. Colin shares the real auto authorisation figures across the group, and there are two cracking stories in here about the value of a good technician, one involving a coffee machine and one involving a screwdriver and a very large invoice. • Service plans, price protection and why they hold retention together when money is tight • The golden hour, and the 15 minute standard through technician, parts and front desk • Real auto authorisation rates across John Clark, plus how fast customers respond to the video • Why long lead times push away the service customers you actually want • Getting credit for diagnostic work instead of handing over a no fault found • The coffee machine story and the FedEx invoice, and what they say about your labour rate • Where technicians are coming from now, apprenticeships, ex forces recruits and fast track Level 3 • Simple contact habits at drop off that get you an answer while the car is still up in the air Colin McAllister is group training and development manager at John Clark Motor Group and looks after training across the group's dealerships, including its apprentice programmes. Darren Bedford is sales director at Symco Training and works with service departments across the country on process and workshop planning. Both have been on the show before and both know the trade from the inside. Send this to your service advisors and your service manager, then look out for part two next week where the guys cover how to put it into practice in your own dealership. About Symco Training: Symco Training was founded in 2000 by Simon Bowkett and it was his belief that the business had to offer its clients something different. That difference was clear to Simon from his days in the dealership when he experienced many sales trainers who had all the answers, but were unable, unwilling or both to actually show the delegate how they could be implemented. It remains the ethos of the business today. You see, Symco only employ trainers that are committed to delivering not only in spiring and insightful training, but are equally as happy to demonstrate these skills and techniques with real customers in your own showroom. We believe in order for sales training to be effective and in Simon's words 'real world', it needs to be tried and tested in the only place it matters the showroom floor. There is no room for theory when your goals are for your team to sell more cars, hours or parts and retain more profit. In dealerships around the world the focus applied by many of the sales executives is to try and sell a deal. Symco specialise in getting your teams to focus on selling themselves, the product and then supporting this with the deal. To find out more visit: www.symcotraining.co.uk

This special 200th episode of the CoROM podcast celebrates four years of continuous weekly episodes and reflects on the journey of the College of Remote and Offshore Medicine. Founder Aebhric O'Kelly is joined by fellow founders John Clark and Dr Csaba Dioszeghy to discuss how CoROM began, why Malta was chosen as its home, the growth of the organisation over the past decade, and the vision for the next five years. The conversation explores CoROM's evolution from a small training organisation into an internationally recognised higher education institution serving students from more than 30 countries across five continents. What began as an opportunity to support paramedic education evolved into the establishment of a permanent educational institution. Malta's strategic location, English-speaking environment, rich medical history, and accessibility for international students all contributed to the decision. John Clark highlights Malta's historical identity as the “Hospital of the Mediterranean” and its longstanding connection to military and austere medicine traditions. Building CoROMAebhric reflects on the origins of Remote Medicine Ireland and how frustration with expensive, poor-quality educational programmes motivated the creation of something different. The founders describe the progression from wilderness medicine courses to paramedic education, postgraduate programmes, and doctoral-level education. Global ReachCoROM currently serves more than 160 students from over 30 countries across five continents. The founders discuss the importance of maintaining a truly international perspective while preserving a close-knit educational culture. Medicine in the Mediterranean (MIM27)The founders discuss the rapid growth of the Medicine in the Mediterranean conference, which has become a recognised gathering point for practitioners interested in remote, austere, wilderness, expedition, military, and offshore medicine.

Three victims of the IRA's bombing campaign in Britain have spent the past four years building a legal case in an attempt to prove that Gerry Adams was a leading member of the IRA during the Troubles. The former Sinn Féin leader spent two days in the witness box in London, maintaining he was never a member of the republican paramilitary organisation responsible for the injuries of John Clark in the Old Bailey explosion in 1973, Jonathan Ganesh at Canary Wharf in 1996 and Barry Laycock a few months later in Manchester. The 77-year-old appeared, according to Irish Times Ireland and Britain editor Mark Hennessy, frail but he was robust in his denial of the claims. So what happens next? Why might the judge rule that the case should never have been brought? And why did Adams wear a bulletproof vest on the first day of the hearing? As the court prepares to sit for its final day, Hennessy explains the background to the case and the evidence presented.Presented by Bernice Harrison. 24 hours before the first full squad workout, Bryce Harper had A LOT to say about A LOT of topics. Spencer McKercher is joined by John Clark down in Clearwater to discuss it all.
Recorded on the Texas Swing, host Doug Simcox steps inside The Buckhorn—Kelly Clark's one-of-a-kind “man cave” that turned into a full-blown rodeo museum. Walls covered in championship saddles, a U.S. map marked with the places Kelly's competed, and artifacts that stretch back to the early days of organized rodeo… it's overwhelming in the best way.In this first conversation with Kelly, we start at the beginning: the Clark family story, the 1955 moment that lit the fuse, and the grit it took to build a life in rodeo. Kelly shares the remarkable legacy of his dad, John Clark—an IRA great with the Hall of Fame résumé—and the reality behind chasing world titles when rodeo isn't a hobby… it's a lifestyle. You'll also hear Kelly's perspective as a true rodeo historian: how the IRA/IPRA evolved, why “cards in your pocket” never mattered as much as talent, and how rodeo got better (and why it still needs people who care enough to leave it better than they found it).And then—right at the end—Kelly lands an unforgettable story that ties champions, family, and legacy into one word Doug can't help but say out loud: “Wow.”

In this deep and wide-ranging conversation, we sit down with John-Clark Levin — researcher, author, and thought leader at the cutting edge of artificial intelligence — to explore the hopes and hazards of the technological era we now inhabit. As research lead for Kurzweil Technologies under futurist Ray Kurzweil, Levin conducts long-term AI foresight and has spoken widely about artificial superintelligence and its implications for society, policy, and human flourishing. We begin by tracing his journey from growing up in Ojai, the book that changed everything for him (Kurzweil's "The Rise of Spiritual Machines" to some of the world's most consequential debates about AI. Along the way, Levin shares how his early interests evolved into a professional focus on the future of intelligence and human-machine symbiosis.A major thread of our discussion centers on Levin's work engaging the Vatican on artificial intelligence — part of a broader effort to ensure that leading global institutions take seriously the ethical, spiritual, and existential questions posed by AI's rapid advance. He describes organizing experts and advocates around what some have dubbed the “AI Avengers,” working to bring the possibility and risks of artificial general intelligence (AGI) into high-level ecclesiastical consideration and eventual guidance. From there we delve into pressing contemporary concerns: the rise of misinformation and disinformation in public life, the risk landscape sometimes referred to as the coming “Slop-acolypse,” and how societies might more effectively marshal truth and trust as AI reshapes information ecosystems.Alongside these serious themes, we trade stories about less expected moments — including Levin's Jeopardy! experience, and the intersecting paths of competition, curiosity, and narrative in his life. The host also reflects on his own Jeopardy! memories in light of Levin's appearance, sparking a candid exchange about learning, memory, and what it means to think like a human — or like a machine designed to mimic human cognition. We did not talk about Japanese names for salt, Simon Bolivar or Greenland annexation. This episode is an engaging, thought-provoking journey through the contours of our strange, accelerating age — from Silicon Valley to the Vatican and from the personal to the planetary. Whether you're deeply invested in AI futures or just curious about the forces reshaping our world, this discussion with John-Clark Levin offers rare insight from one of the field's most provocative voices. You can check out John-Clark's twitter account at https://x.com/JohnClarkLevin, on Instagram at https://www.instagram.com/johnclarklevin/

Some teachers change your grades; a few change your life. One of Jared's favorite high school teachers comes on to discuss his career in education, what makes for a good teacher, and how to work through your grief after the loss of a loved one. Our guest is retired Ag teacher John Clark, who began teaching in 1990, moved through MS, Texarkana, and Corning, and came to Paragould High School in 1998, retiring in 2023. Clark shares why relationships of trust outlast titles, how fair ≠ equal, and why every student should develop a skill people will pay for. We trace the shift from “vocational ed” to college-prep and talk mastery: practice until you can't get it wrong. You'll also hear one of the wildest unsolved mysteries you've ever heard from 30 years ago, plus gentle, hard-won wisdom on healing, keeping loved ones close, and staying in honest conversation.
