This week on the Exciting & New podcast, Jason, Andy and Dana welcome newcomer Herbie to the show to discuss the 1986 adventure comedy Big Trouble in Little China. Once again we dive into the John Carpenter/Kurt Russell pool for some mid 80s fun. This movie mixes all the adventure of Raiders and all the wire fu of a good martial arts movie to meld into something else entirely. The hunt is on to find a woman with green eyes, which, as it turns out, encompasses half the females in the cast (although colored contacts were needed for both) and Kurt Russell is at his all time beefiness with his iconic tank top. Come along for this wild ride and enjoy the podcast.Jason, Andy and Dana will discuss a 1986 movie weekly, breaking down all the nonsense there within. The 3 hosts all work together and everyone else around them was getting really annoyed at all the movie talk, so they decided to annoy the world in podcast form.Check out previous seasons to hear them discuss 1982, 1983, 1984 & 1985 movies, as well as a full season of Love Boat episodes (if that is your thing). Plus one-off specials and a weekly mini "what are we watching" podcast.#jezoo74 #aegonzo1 #danacapoferri #exciting_new
You got trouble, my friends,Right here in Little China! With a capital “T” and that rhymes with “P” and that stands for Pan (crowd: “Lo Pan!”)Yeah, you got trouble (big trouble!),Right here in Little China!Gotta find a girl with jade-green eyes, that is his plan.(spoken) Mothers of Little China . . . heed this warning! Look for these signs: are your boys wearing red bandannas? Are certain words sneaking into their vocabulary? Words like “the first sovereign emperor” and “Ching Dai, god of the East”? Are they hanging around with the Three Storms and stealing trucks from Jack Burton?Well if so, my friends . . . Yup, we've got “Big Trouble in Little China this week in our “Cuz I Wanna (And You're Gonna Like It)” series, a John Carpenter film that didn't do so hot at the box office but found new life on home video. Does it squander that new life? How well does this forty-year-old movie about martial arts, Chinese mysticism, and Kurt Russell channeling John Wayne hold up? Give a listen . . . or this will really piss us off to no end!Poll question: what's your favorite movie that was ignored at the box office but found new life in some other form (home video, midnight shows)?

Send us a textThis week on Entertain This!, Hayden, Mitch, and Tom boldly venture into the cinematic fever dream that is John Carpenter's Big Trouble in Little China. We're talking about a movie where the hero is arguably the sidekick, ancient Chinese magic involves lightning bolts and floating heads, and the true protagonist might just be Kurt Russell's unparalleled confidence in the face of utter bewilderment. Join us as we try to unpack how this glorious, nonsensical masterpiece manages to be simultaneously one of the greatest action-comedies ever made and a solid argument for why truck drivers should probably stick to driving trucks. We'll dissect Lo Pan's surprisingly convoluted evil plan and ponder whether Jack Burton ever actually understood what was going on. So, buckle up, grab your own questionable beverages, and prepare for a deep dive into the reflex-fueled chaos. At the end of it all, we'll ask you: Did Big Trouble in Little China... 200th Episode!!!! I'm still toweling off after the explosive love fest the cast had while covering Big Trouble in Little China. So so sticky. Anyways, it should come to no surprise that this is a favorite. It's weird, it's got monsters, kung-fu, guns, magic, sword fighting, I mean, what's not to like. This movie is THE BEST comfort food you could cinematically ingest. It's filling and you never get tired of the taste. Everyone seemed genuinely jealous that Pete got to see this in the theater until everyone realized how old he is and then they just felt sad. RIP Pete. It's coming quicker than you think.

Time to have some laughs with Sensei Randy as we review (spoiler alert) a Great movie from the 1980s. We'll move to the 90s for the next review, but today we talk about a cult classic. And how it didn't make money at the theater, but did later on. Here's a weird factoid: when I was searching on line for a graphic, I came across action figures of Jack Burton and other characters. Also, Kim Cattrall is in this movie. Sorry Kim, that we didn't get to mentioning that in the episode. Too much talk about the fighting! We do, however, reference Conan the Barbarian.
