Emma Hamilton is currently staring in the reboot of Royal Flying Doctor Service: RFDS! Which this week concludes on Channel Seven. If you have missed the exciting new series? You are free to watch it now on Channel Seven's catch up service SEVEN PLUS. Which I highly recommend! We are yet to know the fate of the new scripted drama and I for one hope we can all band-together to get the next series in production. It is well written, well acted and the stories are endless for the Broken Hill setting of the RFDS. The season finale does end on a cliffhanger and that makes me feel like we have hope for Emma's character moving forward. Dr Eliza Hamilton is the main character of the new series and I feel like things are just heating up. Emma has been seen in countless roles on stage and screen in both England and Australia. There is a warmth to her acting, which is always present and her passion for creating characters is inspiring.  We talk about the actors who have inspired Emma's work - including a story about a chance meeting with Kate Winslet. How she won the role of Dr Eliza Harrod and if she has made life long friends with Justine Clarke.

A funny book about growing up in a family with two mums inspired by Gus Skattebol-James' story in the award-winning documentary, Gayby Baby. I love wrestling. When I grow up, I want to be just like my wrestling heroes: big and tough, with really huge muscles. The only problem is, my mums don't like fighting... A funny story about identity, family and dressing up, inspired by the award-winning documentary, Gayby Baby. 'Big hearted, bold and beautiful. For any parent who knows there is no "right way" to make a family, and for any kid who knows there is no "right way" to be yourself.' Ben Law, author of The Family Law Maya Newell grew up with two mums in a little cottage in the Inner West of Sydney. Every year, they would dress up and march in the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras - in her family, the parade was better than Christmas! From a young age knew she wanted to be a storyteller. She picked up a camera and realised this was the tool she could use to show (not tell) beautiful and bold tales that could open up new worlds to the masses who were blind-hearted. Charlotte Mars is from the Blue Mountains and her childhood was spent creating imaginary worlds in the bush. It was not unexpected that those imaginary worlds would one day inspire her to write and make films of her own. Even now, Charlotte still dips into them, and can often be found getting lost in her head and talking to herself. Some days she feels like a woman, some days she doesn't, so Charlotte loves stories that speak to gender diverse identities and experiences. Maya and Charlotte spent 8 years making a film about the experiences of children in same-sex attracted families, Gayby Baby. To get the film and its messages out there in the world, Maya and Charlotte did all kinds of funny things - they once crashed a TV talk show, another time they staked-out a morning news show to try and get on air, and one time they made a live video from a rollercoaster! Even when fighting for important issues, they always try to have fun. They also took the film, and a group of Gaybies, to share stories and discuss policy with our nation's leaders at state and federal parliaments. One of the kids they followed around for 3 years making Gayby Baby, is their co-author, Gus Skattebol-James. These days, Gus isn't obsessed with wrestling, but he is a black belt in Aikido (a Japanese martial art) and is mad about skateboarding. Now that Gus is almost a grown up, he is finishing his HSC exams and next year he wants to travel the world. Tom Jellett has illustrated a number of books for children including Whale in the Bath by Kylie Westaway, The Gobbledygook is Eating a Book by Justine Clarke and Arthur Baysting, and My Dad Thinks He's Funny by Katrina Germein. Tom has also been included in the Editorial and Book category for Illustrators 53 and exhibited at the Society of Illustrators, New York in 2011 and 2013.

What does every good spy parachuting into enemy territory need to evade capture? A handgun, a nightie, lipstick and a satin cushion of course! That's what secret agent Nancy Wake had in her back pack when she jumped out of a plane during the Second World War to fight the enemy. They nicknamed her the "white mouse'' because she was so hard to catch. Nancy helped many people escape the Nazi's evil clutches and cheated death on more than one occasion. Narrated by singer, actor and producer Justine Clarke.

It’s Spring, 2015. Half your life ago. My six years teaching at the European Film College begin the limp to an anti-climactic end. I try to stay focused. But my main focus is you. The upheaval I’m causing. The reasons for doing it. You’re two and a half. I’m taking you home to our family, our culture, but I’m taking you away from the life, the home, the language, the community that make up your world.Once work wraps up we have some quiet weeks left to pack up our lives. I take you to Trine’s each day, to childcare, and I pack boxes, I write job applications, and I sort out the car with Steen’s help, servicing, detailing and re-registering it, ready for sale. The removalists come while you’re at Trine’s and take all our things away. I tell you they’ve gone to MorMor’s house, that’s what you call Granny, and that we’re going there too. You seem to cope with that. The shipping will take three months if all goes well. You’ll have outgrown half your clothes by then! You’ll miss your bike, your toys, the stereo. We’re left with the school’s basic furniture, two suitcases filled with summer clothes for here and winter clothes for home, a trainset Jim dropped over to ease your toy separation, and a big echoey apartment. You’ve been with Trine five days a week for most of your life. She might be the person you’re closest to after me. This is your last day. I leave my recorder with her. I want to hear you speaking Danish. At this point your Danish is probably better than mine and I know you’ll lose it when we leave. She opens a window into the life you have without me.I’ve made the decision to leave based on what you’ll gain, but I’m painfully aware of everything you’re losing.Farvel Danmark. Director Jeff Balsmeyer was an American film storyboard artist itching to make his writing and directing debut.  His passion project was Danny Deckchair, a romantic comedy based on the real life adventure of California dreamer Larry Walters who tied helium balloons to a lawn chair to lift off into the sky over Long Beach in 1982.  After ten years of shopping the idea around and having recently married an Aussie and relocated there, Balsmeyer made and set his film in Australia.  Brit Rhys Ifans was chosen to play Danny, Justine Clarke came on as Trudy, his frustrated girlfriend, and Miranda Otto was a natural fit for Glenda, the new woman that comes into his life.   Dan and Vicky discuss this low budget charmer from 2004.  Vicky catches us up on her participation in the post-inauguration NYC Woman's March and all her recent viewing including the films Patriots Day, Creed, Midnight Cowboy and the Count Yorga films and the TV shows Sherlock, Smash and Netflix's A Series of Unfortunate Events.  Dan tells us about his new off-Broadway show, Mother of Invention, and some of his recent watches including John Carpenter's Big Trouble in Little China and Memoirs of an Invisible Man, the recent big screen Passengers and The Bye Bye Man, the documentary Rats and TV shows Channel Zero and The Exorcist.   We also read our first listener e-mail in a long time! Soar with Hot Date 44 and Danny Deckchair on this Aussie flight of fancy.  Leave us some feedback.
