We have covered cryptocurrencies, bitcoin, ethereum, and the blockchain extensively on this show… yet one of the biggest issues that many professionals in the world of payments and fintech continue to raise is that of volatility. Volatility makes cryptocurrency adoption in traditional financial and commerce spaces incredibly challenging. Fortunately stablecoins offer potential solutions to this problem, and that’s what Scott explores with several guests this week. Scott is joined by three experts from a fintech startup called Stably. Amiya Diwan (Chief Product Officer), Bryan Guy (Chief Legal and Compliance Officer), and Kory Hoang (CEO) each had incredible insight to share on stablecoins and how their company is aiming to bring unite crypto and payments. Sign up for our newsletter at Evolvement.io. Evolvement is a podcast hosted by Nye that revolves around Bitcoin, cryptocurrency, blockchain technology, and how these play a role in the current financial models and economic systems of the world. Episode Six features Kory Hoang from Stably, the company that has created StableUSD. In this podcast, Nye and Kory discuss the importance of Stable coins in the cryptocurrency ecosystem and how they can play a role in the future of banking. Kory tells us a little about the different categories for stable coins, how they bring in revenue, and why it is important to have way more than just one stable coin in the crypto atmosphere. He also speaks a little bit about his past experience working in banking and how he learned a lot about the possibilities of cryptocurrency from working in that industry. Also, Kory and Nye discuss a little bit about Tether and the situation that occurred back in 2017 when Tether reportedly printed more coins in order to pump the price of Bitcoin and cash in big. Kory then talks about this being the reason why more than one stable coin is necessary for the ecosystem and how the free market will decide which ones stay and which ones go. You can learn more about Stably and what they are doing with StableUSD here: https://www.stably.io/. Kory Hoang is the CEO of Stably (USDS), a regulated and transparent Stable coin hoping to take on the current market leader, Tether. Stably makes transacting in cryptocurrencies more palatable by eliminating their inherent volatility in respect to the dollar. By making StableUSD redeemable and pegged 1-to-1 with US dollars, Stably can virtually eliminate volatility while still retaining many useful characteristics of a cryptocurrency - including fast transaction speed, anonymity, and immutability. Can cryptos mimmic a central banking system? Will stable coins facilitate a new age of remittance on the blockchain? Can users keep cash reserves stable while they get exposure to crypto? https://www.stably.io/ https://www.facebook.com/stablycoin https://twitter.com/stablycoin https://www.instagram.com/stableusd/ --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/cryptoconomy/message
Kory Hoang is not a veteran trader—he’s not someone who has been doing this 10-20 years. He’s someone who has been doing this for only a few years, yet he’s begun to make decent gains on his trading capital. Kory is also not a full-time trader …well, at the time of recording this—a few weeks ago—he wasn’t! Kory was a private equity analyst for Pitchbook, who traded on the side. But he’s since informed me that he’s handed in his notice and taken the leap to focus on trading (plus a couple startup projects). In terms of how he trades; Kory is a retail systematic trader. He’s running numerous algorithmic strategies, which he’s developed (all of which are fairly simple). These run on various ETFs, ETNs and even some cryptocurrencies. During our chat, we cover quite a bit; but mostly his journey and how he’s progressed to this point!
