Landmark Creamery has officially moved into its new production space near Monroe and has started bulking up their sheep milk cheese production by nearly triple the amount. Anna Landmark is a cheesemaker and co-owner of Landmark Cheese. She says with support from the Dairy Business Innovation Alliance, they've been able to accomplish a long-awaited dream. Landmark Creamery has moved into the former Deppeler's Swiss Cheese factory, renting from Chalet Cooperative. The move has streamlined milk hauling from Ms. J & Co. where Landmark gets sheep milk. They've grown from a capacity of 4,000 to 12,000 lbs of milk.  See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Imagine agriculture being so popular that classrooms have to turn kids away because there's just not enough space. Well that happened at Bay Port High School which has been expanding its ag programs and still sees incredible demand from an almost entirely nonfarm population.  Quick hits in Wisconsin news today: Thanks to a DBIA grant, Landmark Creamery is moving into its own plant this year after having rented space for nine years. The International Crane Foundation wants to hear from farmers seeing crop damage from cranes. Wisconsin Corn and partners are hosting a Trade School on Aug. 23. We hear from one of 15 meat processors that came online this year thanks to state meat processing grants. Timely rains boosted crop conditions.  Market Advisor John Heinberg with Total Farm Marketing in West Bend has his eye on changing weather patterns, international grain harvest and cattle prices. We talk about it all! A key takeaway: despite ongoing weather mishaps in the Corn Belt, prices remain soft due to oversupply of corn. The U.S. needs export buyers to pick up.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Landmark Creamery will be moving into its own cheese production space this year after having rented space for nearly a decade. Anna Landmark is the co-owner, cheesemaker and butter maker at Landmark. She says this grant from the Dairy Business Innovation Alliance is helping foster growth. And it's not the only good news she has to share. A previous grant from DBIA assisted Landmark's plans to make butter. A short walk from Landmark Creamery's aging caves and retail store in Paoli is Seven Acre Dairy Company. This is a new micro dairy, restaurant and boutique hotel within a historic cheese plant. This is where Landmark will be making artisan butter beginning this summer. Of 1,200 licensed cheesemakers in Wisconsin, less than 60 are women. Three of them: Katie Fuhrmann at LaClare Farms, Anna Landmark of Landmark Creamery and Diana Murphy at Dreamfarm (pictured above from left to right), shared their stories with me and dozens of others at an event I hosted at the Wisconsin Historical Museum last week. Each of these three ladies came to cheese making from a different path with different goals, but they all share one opinion: cheddar is heavy.
