Take a listen to our live coverage of Day 2 of the Republican National Convention, live from Riverwest Radio in Milwaukee. It's a perfect day to have veteran journalist Bob Hennelly, as Senator Bob Menendez is found guilty of all corruption charges. Bob talks with former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani. In this episode, reporter Sara Gabler travels to an info session on Moms for Liberty, and debriefs with Mother Jones senior editor Kiera Butler. Then we turn our attention to abortion. The Republican party platform on abortion, officially adopted yesterday, is just one paragraph and makes reference to states rights. It also says, quote "We will oppose Late Term Abortion, while supporting mothers and policies that advance Prenatal Care, access to Birth Control, and IVF (fertility treatments)."Wisconsin Watch reporter Phoebe Petrovic joins us to talk about her latest article about militant anti-abortion activist Pastor Matthew Trewhella. And, Jennifer Holland has been studying conservative anti-abortion organizing through the decades. She's the author of Tiny You: A Western History of the Anti-Abortion Movement, and joins us to analyze the contradiction between the platform and more hardline efforts like Project 2025.Ali Muldrow, executive director of the Wisconsin Women's Fund, tells us the current status of abortion in Wisconsin, and unpacks specific claims made yesterday by Vice Presidential candidate JD Vance about "tax-payer funded abortion. "We go to the intersection of North 14th and West Vliet Streets, less than a mile from the perimeter, where a Milwaukee man is dead after being shot by five police officers from Columbus, Ohio — who were sent to assist at the RNC. Reporter Peter Donalds was there to speak with some of the family and neighbors. Then we turn our attention to some of the super-rich of the Republican Party, including the Ricketts family and Wisconsin's own billionaire Diane Hendricks, who's here in Milwaukee.Dr. Everett Kelley rounds out the show. He's the national president of the American Federation of Government Employees, which is the largest union representing federal and D.C. government employees.

A lot of these were questions that people could answer for one another, and … it was short-circuiting the community conversation.” –@NicoleinMadison The knowledge and value that community can offer (26:17): “You're going to gain so much more out of talking to somebody [in the community] who has done what you are trying to do, than someone who knows what functionality you should use to try to do it. Even the best support agent in the world probably hasn't done exactly the thing that you're trying to do. There's actually a real benefit to talking to other users.” –@NicoleinMadison About Nicole Saunders In over 12 years as a community professional, Nicole Saunders‘ experience has ranged from consulting to launching communities for startups to currently leading the community team at Zendesk. Marisa Moseley's journey through college basketball includes remarkable success as a player, assistant coach and head coach. She joined SGG to discuss leading the Badgers program. We discussed: 1. What is a “bell cow”… and who were some of Coach Moseley's bell cows? 2. Having “unfettered” access to Coach Auriemma. 3. Jay Wright. “You watch his teams and they're so fundamentally sound…I was very much an admirer of the way he coaches and teaches.” 4. John Thompson. “How he transcended the game, how he was unapologetically black, how he led…how he was authentically himself.” 5. How do you decipher what's “for you” as a coach? 6. Determining “our style” as a program. “I knew what kind of person I was as a person, as a coach, as a leader, as a teacher… But we needed to develop a style as a program.” 7. How program “style” affects all parts of the program. 8. Indicators of the Badgers culture: a loud gym, energy, open communication, helping each other up, quick pace, urgency. 9. Popovich: When you join this team, you don't change us, we change you. 10. Consistency and high expectations. 11. Coaches who talk too much at practice. 12. Learning to let players play through mistakes. “It's a delicate dance.” 13. The program pillars: Winning mindset, Integrity, Selflessness, Communication, Legacy. 14. Connectedness around the pillars. “If you are really, really connected, you have some of your best teams. 15. A simple gratitude exercise with the team. 16. What team members owe each other. 17. Deepest aspirations as a coach: “helping people become the best version of themselves.”

Deirdre Birmingham of The Cider Farm in Mineral Point is thankful for the pollinator infrastructure she and her husband had been putting in place since the early 2000s. Wild pollinators were responsible for the pollination of her early blooming apple varieties this year. The hives that usually set on neighboring farms did not come until thousands of trees were done flowering during the heatwave in May. The Cider Farm boasts a 30-acre prairie, prairie strips around the orchard, milkweed for monarchs, alternate mowing in alleyways so every other row is flowering, and enhanced beneficial bug populations. She is speaking to Wisconsin Women in Conservation on June 23. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

The Wisconsin Women in Government organization holds their annual Leadership Seminar next week in partnership with the La Follette School of Public Policy - hoping to support the next wave of women leaders in the state. Wisconsin has seen changes in the levels of women in elected office and other government posts over time, still women currently hold fewer than one-third of state legislative seats and even fewer local offices despite comprising 50% of the population. New public policy polling shows the importance of women voices at the table particularly on issues of health care, COVID policy, race relations and more.
