Lot's of good stuff in this mixtape, so let's jump right in. Game BGM 1 from Hat Trick Hero 2 for the Super Famicom is a straight-up jam with some terrific prominent bass guitar laying down some funky riffs. Against all odds, Rob still manages to keep finding Lightening Force tracks that have yet to be played on the show and Omake 2 is a great example of how that soundtrack is full of
This mixtape comes out swinging with a face melting rock jam ("Omake 5") from Lightening Force that is undeniably pumped up. That's followed up by a super jazzy track from 1943 Kai: Midway Kaisen by Tamayo Kawamoto which has a really cool and funky bass line. In Gabe's Corner, we got to hear "Spiritual Peaks (Street Race 8)" from Kat's Run: Zen Nihon K Car Senshuken, which is an
The title of the episode may be "Noise," but this free play is filled with anything but. We've got a lot of tracks from games that are new to the show, as well as some classic returning titles. For example, somehow, Rob still manages to find another Lightening Force track that hadn't been played yet, and it packs all the punch you've come to expect from that soundtrack. We've also got
We choose our Top 10 Games of 1992! Plus: Batman Returns, Batman: Revenge of the Joker, Lightening Force, Buster Bros., an extended look at Nintendo Power and GameFan, plus much more!
The free plays are always a good opportunity for the boiz to share a wide range of VGM finds, as well as a chance for Rob to work another Lightening Force track into the mix (not that there's anything wrong with that). Welcome back to Pursuing Pixels. We've got another jam-packed week of gaming to discuss, so let's get right into it. Kevin & DJ follow-up on their time with a couple of games from last week, Eagle Island & The Witcher III. They also start channeling their inner Babe Ruth, calling shots in the new Astro Bears update with online Jetfish(?) leaderboards—perhaps it's all of the fine spirits we consume? DJ also starts stacking his deck in Gwent, a formerly-fictional card game set in The Witcher universe. Kevin & Randall scoop up Membrane on the cheap and discover a nifty little physics-based puzzle platformer, while DJ is a little let down by Nefarious, another game he snagged in a recent sale. The ground is literally lava in Space Dave! & Randall cools things down with another super tough shmup from way back in the Genesis/Mega Drive days, the Sega Ages remastered Lightening Force aka Thunder Force IV. Kevin plays along with the shmups, and appears to be a glutton for punishment, as he's back into TumbleSeed, and also checks out the two-player versus mode with DJ that was added after its initial release. Like a bolt of "lightening" from a clear sky, your Video Game Grooves podcast has returned! In this episode, Anthony and Jeremy visit fantastical lands and the far reaches of outer space to bring you the best of our collections of video game music on vinyl record! This episode brings us up close and personal with a lauded "shoot-em-up" game (as the oldsters call them) Thunder Force IV, for the Sega Genesis, also known as Lightening Force in the USA. As we've discussed in previous episodes, the Genesis is a delicate musical tool that can take you to heaven or send you to hell... What will the post-metal (yet still jazzy) Data Discs release do for you? Next we move on to a more modern classic, Shadow of the Colossus by Kow Otani. Many listeners may be familiar with the beloved "Oops! All Bosses" style game and its haunting score, and we handle the material with fresh ears and open hearts, exploring the bigness, sadness, and loneliness of the PS2/PS3/PS4 masterpiece. We catch up on some overdue business, by which we mean commerce... by which we mean we're going to tell you about stuff you'll want to spend money on. Don't worry, it hurts us too (so good). Autumn begins and Summer ends this Sunday in the UK, so why not revive one of our old show types and a series of specials we did around this same subject previously on RadioSEGA? Sounds like a plan! Oh, and we also agree on why Thunder Force IV was actually renamed to Lightening Force, and spoilers, it ain't pretty.
