Here's some good advice: SLOW DOWN! This episode begins with a list of things you do every day that you would actually do better if you did them slower. Source: Debbie Mandel, author of Addicted to Stress https://amzn.to/45kCGDc Traveling today can be difficult. Still, people like to travel. So, if you are heading off on vacation or taking a trip of any kind, you will enjoy hearing my guest, Patricia Schultz. She is a veteran travel journalist who has accumulated a knowledge base of travel hacks and tricks and otherwise great advice that she joins me with to share with you. And a lot of what she has to say, you probably haven't heard before. Patricia is author of the book Why We Travel: 100 Reasons To See The World (https://amzn.to/45twsAW) Is there intelligent life elsewhere in the universe? People have been asking that question for a long time. And the answer seems to be – we just don't know. Still, the idea of alien life captures our imagination. If it has captured your imagination, you are really going to like listening to my guest, Jaime Green. She is a science writer, editor, and teacher, and author of the book The Possibility of Life: Science, Imagination, and Our Quest for Kinship in the Cosmos (https://amzn.to/45iVumb) How many times have you heard that you should never wash your good kitchen knives in the dishwasher? Why? What's the worst that could happen? Actually, that's just one of several pieces of kitchen wisdom that I tackle in this episode and the explanations may come as a surprise. https://www.consumerreports.org/dishwashers/things-to-never-put-in-dishwasher/ PLEASE SUPPORT OUR SPONSORS! We will learn: How our survival strategies and coping responses become embedded in the body.  The 4 stages of the drama cycle.  The physical and mental costs of drama addiction, its impact on relationships, and how to heal from it. What's your relationship to drama? Are you the drama queen in your circle, or do you claim to hate drama while finding yourself caught up in it anyway? Or do you strive to keep your own life peaceful and stay out of other people's business? The truth is, we all thrive on drama a little bit, even if we think we don't. And how can we not? From reality TV to social media, we're constantly bombarded with sensationalized stories and conflicts. And while it may seem harmless, it deregulates the nervous system, creating more stress and less peace, which can lead to mental and physical health issues. So how do we get ourselves out of this drama cycle? That's what we're talking about today.  Our guest is Dr. Scott Lyons, a licensed clinical psychologist and mind-body medicine practitioner who specializes in therapies for infants, youth, and adults. He's also the author of "Addicted to Drama: Healing Dependency on Crisis and Chaos in Yourself and Others." He's going to give us practical tools and strategies to break free from the cycle of drama addiction and find a path toward healing and wholeness. He's had so many police interactions, that he might as well have joined a department. His driving is a major problem, but his attitude, and the company he keeps are what really screw him up. Did he bail out a friend, who was accused of throwing a stabbed teenager into the Hudson River? It's this kind of publicity that made him a constant problem for the league, his family, and himself!!Stay home for college, always hang around with the wrong people, and take all that you have for granted, until everyone finally gets sick of you with Kenny Britt!!Check us out, every Tuesday! We will continue to bring you the biggest idiots in sports history!! Have you ever considered that you may actually be addicted to stress? That underneath all the complaining about being busy and feelings of frustration about always being pulled in multiple directions gives you a high like no other? Stacey shares some of the behaviours that may be early indicators that you are developing a stress addiction. Stress can be a motivating factor for some people, and it can give us a sense of purpose or drive in our daily lives. However, prolonged exposure to stress can lead to negative consequences for our physical and mental health. There are scientific reasons why you may feel addicted to stress. When we experience stress, our body releases cortisol, a hormone that prepares us for a "fight or flight" response. This can make us feel more alert, focused, and energized. Over time, our brain can start to associate stress with these positive feelings and may seek out situations that cause stress as a way to replicate those feelings. However, chronic stress can also lead to negative physical and mental health outcomes, such as cardiovascular disease, depression, anxiety, and burnout. It's important to find a healthy balance between stress and relaxation to maintain our overall well-being. There are ways to break the cycle of addiction to stress. One strategy is to identify the sources of stress in your life and make a plan to manage them more effectively. This may involve setting boundaries, delegating tasks, or seeking support from others. Additionally, engaging in activities that promote relaxation, such as exercise, meditation, or hobbies, can help to counteract the effects of stress.   Resources and Tools One hour of FREE executive coaching on the Formula to Create Success without The Stress in 30 Days or Less: https://epictransformation-21794080.hubspotpagebuilder.com/success C-Sweet Mastermind Coaching: https://www.femmepowered.net/csweet_mastermind    This episode is brought to you by Epic Transformation Intention Cards (https://staceyhines.mykajabi.com/intentioncards) These intention cards are perfect for self-affirmation work. Heroin is a drug derived from opium poppy plants that can quickly lead to addiction. Heroin use can cause an overdose, increase the risk of contracting infectious diseases, and lead to a range of health problems, including mental health problems. Prescription opioids, like OxyContin and Vicodin, can also be addictive. They can cause physical dependence and increased tolerance, leading to misuse and a higher risk of addiction. Some people turn to heroin when they can no longer get prescription opioids or need a stronger high. To reduce the risk of addiction, it's important to take prescription opioids as directed by a healthcare professional and to never share them with others. If you or someone you know is struggling with addiction to heroin or prescription opioids, seek help from a healthcare professional or addiction treatment center. There once was a lion cub who got separated from his mother. A sheep found him and took him in as her own. The lion cub grew into a lion and one day an amazing thing happened. In the distance, he heard the roar of a lion. Suddenly, something powerful emerged within the lost lion—surprising himself, he started roaring as well.  Realizing his destiny, he left his sheep mother without looking back and went in search of his lion heritage. In a similar way, our guest on Love University, Jesse Leon, underwent an amazing transformation to discover his inner lion. Raised in a horrific environment of sexual abuse, drug addiction, homelessness, and hopelessness, Jesse awakened to his true nature by graduating from prestigious universities and making a tremendous impact on his community and the world. He also embraced his authentic nature as a gay Latino man who wants to inspire others to shine their light and love to their communities. We were honored to hear his story, as described in his bestselling memoir, I'm Not Broken (https://rb.gy/uruyp). Here's what we learned from Jesse: Channel Your Inner Nerd:  We all have innate intelligence.  You're smart and resilient no matter where you come from and what you've been through. You just need to code switch—apply your knowledge and experience to the environment you're in and do it for the good of all. Be Ready for Unexpected Mentors:  Be open for moments of magic when remarkable people come into your life to help you. They may not look like individuals you expect to help you, but they can help transform your life if you let them. Just Go For It: If you have a desire, don't think twice, just go for it. Jesse thought his ceiling was to graduate from community college (cosmetology), but he didn't realize that he could do much more.  With motivating people to guide him, he applied to UC Berkeley and Harvard, and graduated from these prestigious institutions. Jesse says that if you want something, just put yourself out there. Go for it, and you will be pleasantly surprised that you accomplished it. Jesse's message can be summarized in a simple phrase: Don't Stop Until the Miracle Happens.  No one gave Jesse a chance, but he found faith, friendship, and hope in embracing his true authenticity and power within. You can do the same. No matter what you've gone through, no matter where you come from, You Are Not Broken. You are perfect just the way are. Embrace yourself, love yourself, and extend your love to others without expectation. Nothing can stop you now.
