Why do some of us swear we want peace… yet somehow find ourselves knee-deep in the same chaos we said we were done with? In this episode, we get all the way honest about our relationship with dysfunction - the kind we grew up in, the kind we've normalized, and the kind we accidentally recreate as adults. With our signature Straight Up Sisters blend of humor, soul, and "girl, SAME," we unpack:     •    Why familiar chaos can feel safer than unfamiliar calm     •    How childhood survival modes show up in our adult relationships     •    The dopamine hit of drama (yes, that's a thing)     •    Breaking the cycle and choosing peace without feeling "bored" This is the episode for anyone who's ever prayed for stability but still answered chaos' texts at 2AM. We're talking healing, accountability, and learning how to stop mistaking emotional roller coasters for love, passion, or personality. Come ready to laugh, reflect, and maybe drag yourself a little, all with love. Because if you're addicted to chaos… sis, you are not alone. And yes, you can detox from dysfunction. When a son or daughter is caught in addiction, parents often discover that the loving responses that worked in earlier years are no longer effective. In this week's episode, Kim and Michelle Humphrey return to share what happened after they found support through PAL (Parents of Addicted Loved Ones). As they connected with other parents facing similar struggles, they began to realize they were not alone. That simple truth became a turning point in their journey. Through PAL, they gained a deeper understanding of addiction and learned that healthy parental love often looks different when a teen or adult child is dependent on drugs. As Kim and Michelle grew in wisdom, support, and encouragement, they began to heal even while their sons continued to struggle. Instead of being controlled by fear, guilt, and isolation, they learned how to establish healthier responses and trust God with what they could not control. Dawn began to break through the darkness. Today, Kim serves as Executive Director of PAL, and together he and Michelle help other families find the same hope and healing they experienced. Their story is a powerful reminder that parents can move toward health and freedom, even in the midst of a loved one's addiction. (WATCH THIS EPISODE ON YOUTUBE) Today, 98% of all federal criminal cases are resolved with a guilty plea. Why? "Half a loaf is better than none. . . . When we have a weak case for any reason, we'll reduce to almost anything rather than lose." In modern America, "beyond a reasonable doubt" as determined by a jury has largely been replaced by the discretion of prosecutors to punish defendants for exercising their constitutional right to a trial by jury. So much so, defendants in pretrial detention are agreeing to plea "bargains" at a rate so high, it's difficult to deny the obvious: Innocence is irrelevant. Reb is joined by Hannah Bogen, a Federal Public Defender in the Office of the FPD for the Central District of California, the largest public defense office in the federal system. Hannah shares her firsthand experience with indigent defense, pretrial detention, plea bargaining, and sentencing policy—a rare glimpse into the real lives of her clients in the federal criminal system, and public defenders' enduring fight for dignity and mercy for the people whom society often forgets...Until it happens to you. **DISCLAIMER: The views and opinions discussed in this episode are personal to Hannah and Reb and do not reflect the views or opinions of the Office of the Federal Public Defender.** A huge thank you to Hannah Bogen for her time and unforgettable insight for this episode, and a gracious nod to the Offices of the Federal Public Defender in Los Angeles and around the country. Here are AI notes: This emergency Dopey episode is Dave and Kevin McEnroe going full Knicks sicko mode on the day of Game 1 of the NBA Finals. They talk about Addicted to the Knicks, the idea of “KA,” Knicks fandom as church, childhood obsession, superstition, dads, recovery, and why caring about the Knicks feels weirdly connected to getting sober. Kevin talks about being hooked on the Knicks before drugs, his first brutal Knicks memory — leaving the Garden early and hearing Reggie Miller's eight points in nine seconds from a cab — and how addiction made him lose interest in everything, including basketball. Dave tells his legendary story of sneaking into Madison Square Garden during a Knicks/Bulls playoff game through a Calypso festival and a stoner kid in concessions. They hit Anthony Mason, John Starks, Patrick Ewing, Knicks Tape, David Lee, Nate Robinson, Brunson, KAT, Wemby, Mitchell Robinson, Tibbs, Mike Brown, and the insane feeling of New York City actually coming together around the Knicks.         Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. Sean Willers was homeless as a teenager, served in Afghanistan, became an international DJ playing some of the biggest clubs in the world, and then woke up in a hospital bed with no memory of how he got there. That moment didn't just end a night out, it ended an entire identity. In this episode of School of Rock Bottom, we explore what happens when success and self-destruction start to overlap, and the point where you're forced to choose between continuing the cycle or rebuilding everything from scratch.Sean's life moves through homelessness, early alcohol use, military service, the fitness industry, and a high-flying DJ career that gradually became dominated by cocaine and alcohol. What begins as escapism turns into dependency, shaped further by a nightlife culture where excess is normalised and boundaries slowly disappear. He breaks down the pivotal night in 2021 when a set in Nottingham, intended to mark a reset, spiralled into blackout, hospitalisation, and police involvement. That moment became the final breaking point with the music industry and the start of sobriety. From there, the conversation moves beyond the headline of addiction and into the mechanics of recovery itself. Sean challenges the usefulness of labels, questions whether traditional frameworks like AA work for everyone, and argues that long-term change is built less on willpower and more on structure, identity, and discipline. They also explore the often overlooked reality of early recovery: the substitution of one compulsion for another, the role of dopamine-driven behaviours, and the slow process of building stability without relying on extremes for regulation. At its core, this is a conversation about control. Not just stopping drugs and alcohol, but learning how to build a life that no longer requires them.Sean is now a high-performance life and wellness coach, working with people who look like they've got it all together on the outside but know something isn't right underneath, helping them get in shape, quit drinking, and take back control. David is joined by Amy Woodall for a conversation that feels more like a mirror than a mic. Together, they pull back the curtain on ego, and how it sneaks into your relationships, hijacks your reactions, and disguises itself as righteousness. Amy shows us where ego lurks and how asking one simple question, "What would love do?", can change the tone, the outcome, and maybe even the world. Expect to feel called out, cracked open, and challenged to stop forwarding that podcast to "someone who really needs to hear it"… and instead, take it personally. What he built on the other side of that journey is one of the most thoughtful, science-backed, and genuinely human approaches to recovery I've ever come across.Jimmie's guiding principle is simple but powerful: there are as many doorways to recovery as there are people. The moment you force everyone through the same door, you start losing them. Addiction is customized to the individual, and so recovery has to be too.We go deep on the 4 doors every person in recovery moves through, the real neuroscience behind why 30-day programs fail, what it takes to reach someone who hasn't admitted they have a problem yet, and the vision Jimmie is building toward, including a new facility in the Black Hills to serve the Lakota Nation, where the average adult male dies at 47.The people you'll hear from in this episode - Ryan, Travis, Sheldon, and Talbot - all came through Jimmie's program and now work inside it. Besties… if you've ever spiraled over a situationship, stalked an ex's Instagram like it's your part-time job (be so forreal - we've all done it), or wondered why you keep attracting the same kind of emotionally unavailable person - you've come to the right place. This week, we're joined by dating expert, author of Unsingle, and founder of Breakup Bootcamp, Amy Chan to talk about the psychology behind heartbreak, attachment styles, dating burnout, avoidant behavior, “icks,” and why situationships can sometimes hurt more than real relationships. Amy breaks down how breakups affect the brain like withdrawal, why closure doesn't always feel like closure and the dopamine loops that keep us attached to inconsistent people. Trust us, you're gonna want to take notes on this one.
