Lots of trailing pieces from last month (that is, familiar game titles) in this installment of the Legacy Music Hour, even though it is a free play. For starters, Rob, Brent, and Gabe debate whether or not a track is Asiatic sounding (again, that's not the topic this episode). They talk about meter and melody and the like. And anyway, they also talk about other stuff and play
Bonkers! Totally nuts. Let’s get this out of the way—yes, Tyler sounds terrible. Embrace the terrible. He is out of town for work and is doing his best. Back in the early to mid 90s, when a popular movie was turned into a video game, that game was often released for both of the 16-bit systems that dominated console gaming of the day. This meant that whether you owned a Super Nintendo or a SEGA Genesis you'd be able to snag a copy and play! The thing is, in those days, these licensed games would often involve completely separate developers for each system, leading to a pair of games that were actually, nothing alike! Tonight, with the help of our pal Aldo Aroujo, we will be talking about 16-bit licensed games that did just that! A single property that resulted in two totally different games... one for the SNES and one for the Genesis/Megadrive. Sure, the debate over which variation on a beloved theme was major fuel for the fires tended by partisan gamers of the day, but those days are long gone. Heck, we're gonna play 'em all! Much like a SNES logo in the Sega font, the tracks for this episode were 50% Sega, 50% Nintendo, and 100% bonk. Starting off with a killer track from Totally Rad, from the good folks at Jaleco (haa-lee-co)! "Industen" is a fully orchestrated and epic piece from Actraiser 2 by none other than the famous Yuzo Koshiro. "Mexico" from Saturday Night Slam Masters has a classic old
Aero Fighters, you know—Aeros. And they are fighting. Did you guess this would be an intense cinematic platformer detailing a surface-dwelling human’s adventure trying to make his way through a cloud kingdom he woke up in? Sometimes the best thing to help you get through the day is a nice distraction, and an LMH mixtape can be just the thing. Allow yourself to be distracted by the wonderful arpeggios and multiple layers of the truly grand track "Ending" from Magical Chase. "Name Entry" from Suzuka 8 Hours is a smooth track with a great melody, and "Red Owl" from Last Bible III is a totally bonk jam.&

This week's episode features my weird obsession of messing with Haley in Stardew Valley, the fun of fighting Queens in ARC Raiders, and how A Game About Digging a Hole is a game about digging a hole. Anyway and as always, thank you for watching or listening, I hope you enjoy this here episode, and I hope you have a wonderful wonderful rest of your day. (And if you haven't already, or are a listener and not a watcher, please like, subscribe, hit the bell, and all that jazz; it may not seem like much, but it goes a long way in helping support the show and site in general. I would appreciate it greatly.)
Andy Mac finds inner peace paneling 16-bit clowns in "Batman Returns" (1993) on the SNES, Mick goes on a quest which inexplicably does not feature paladins in "Paladin's Quest" (1992), also on the SNES, and McCormick grapples with his own sentience in "Sentient" (1997) for the PlayStation 1.
Welcome back to Pursuing Pixels. We've got the full crew in the house once again this week, and all sorts of gaming goodies to dive into, so lets get things rolling... John kicks things off with an update on his time with No Man's Sky, after getting sucked back into the game's addictive loop during these bitter cold winter months. Randall takes the torch from there and steers us over into the retro realm, as he's been spending some time with Super Off Road on the SNES — and, of course, we discuss the arcade original as well! Finally, Kevin wraps things up with a little Nintendo action — first giving a shoutout to the recently released (surprise) update for Donkey Kong Country Returns HD, before gushing some more about Super Mario 3D Land. Timestamps: No Man's Sky - 00:01:51 Super Off Road - 00:13:29 Donkey Kong Country Returns HD - 00:26:53 Super Mario 3D Land - 00:32:02 Thanks for taking the time to listen! Whether you're here for rumors, retro deep cuts, or thoughtful gaming talk, there's something for you.

Happy Beginnings means (among other things) that this mixtape begins with an absolute banger. Divine Bloodlines (Stage 1 BGM) from Dracula X on the SNES is a very faithful rendition of the original CD version, with sampled electric guitar and some killer bass guitar. Castle Theme from Valkyrie no Densetsu has a very regal sound, with some great sampled choir voices. This mixtape isn't

So I finally fired it up for a Valentine's week episode of RTG, and dammit, it's true. Sega did what Nintendidn't.For the record, I really like both games. But the Sega version looked better, sounded better, and killed me better. I found it much harder than its SNES counterpart, and that's a good thing. Great fucking game.Pending RTG Hall of Famer Mark McCue is my guest this week (as he was for the SNES episode all those years ago), and we both agree that while any Aladdin is good Aladdin, this is the premium experience. And before we make a wish, I put together another edition of the Infamous Intro! This week someone asks why games have such short times in the spotlight these days and why the gaming world is so quick to move onto the next big thing? Did I play a lot of Dreamcast back in the day?? And a FAQ: Why do so many listeners call me 'Andy'??Plus we play another round of 'Play One, Remake One, Erase One', too! Not since 2013 has the Legacy Music Hour done a focus on music with an Asiatic influence, but as they've been doing more themed episodes lately, here it is once again. Some pretty standard picks here from games like Shinobi and Legend of the Mystical Ninja, but maybe a couple lesser known titles as well, all employing some kind of Far East element, even if sometimes subtly. "The Crew Arrives on a New World." This season's first big lore cutscene takes us into a discussion on one of the most influential games of all time, in its finest form. Yes, it's Prince of Persia for the SNES. Devious platforming, vicious swordplay, and an incredible soundtrack highlight one of the most challenging games of its time. A simple story turned complex through twenty levels of nonstop traps, puzzles, and shadows sets the stage for the daring and classic royal rescue that only a truly seminal game can bring. Claire is back and we take some time to talk about where she's been and how MAGfest was. Claire has been playing a bunch of idle games, especially Melvor Idle which is essentially an MMO in idle form. While that runs, she also has been playing SoulBlazer on the SNES. This is a BareMetal build of an Amiga emulator system that can be used on lots of different Intel or Arm based systems. It comes in an image you upload to an SD card or USB stick to boot from, you can also install it on an SSD. Not only does it provide Amiga emulation, but within it, it also emulates early Mac systems and allows you to run early Mac games. You do however need to provide kickstart ROMs to get it working, but if you own Amiga Forever from Colanto then you already have them! Its a great way to breathe new life into old hardware by turning it in to an Amiga. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OFa8YWv6j98 Eric – 2048 for Pico-8 (GREAT VERSION!) https://www.lexaloffle.com/bbs/?tid=153397 Please give us a review on Apple Podcasts! The unofficial theme of this episode was "making connections." For one, Rob had a running theme through his choices. Did you catch the theme? There were also a lot of connections made between tracks and other media of which those tracks were reminiscent. For example, "Burning Fighter (Stage 3)" from Surprise Attack had parts that reminded the boizz of music from the movie

Many have told me this is in their top 2 X games alongside the original, and now that I've played it for myself, I get it.The original trilogy of Mega Man X games on the SNES range from perfection to meh (in my books), so I was curious to see how the series would go once it left the 16-bit era. And while X4 definitely shares some DNA with the very subpar Mega Man 8, it brings the heat in practically every way and is anything but subpar. AND it's 2 games in one, because you can play as X AND Zero! The Dr. Light to my Dr. Wily, Dan from Dissect That Film returns to this week to talk more Maverick hunting. We went longer than I expected us to with this one, but when you're talking mega Man there's never enough. With 2 playthroughs to break down, plus rambling about the series as a whole and those legendary cutscenes, we had a ton to get to.And before we X, I put together another edition of the Infamous Intro! This week someone asks for breakup advice in video game context and I try my best. What are the top NES hidden gems I'd recommend people check out?? And why don't I play all series in chronological order??Plus we play another round of 'Play One, Remake One, Erase One', too! This one features 3 Mega Man games: Mega Man & Bass, Mega Man Zero, and Mega Man ZX.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
