This episode had a fun theme: tracks that end. Meaning, tracks that don't loop indefinitely. That's right, you'll find a lot of title themes and ending/credits tracks here, as opposed to stage BGMs which usually loop. "Opening" from Shadow of the Ninja is a great example of a title piece that can get you pumped to start a game. And "Opening" from Track & Field on the

Spooky season is here, and to celebrate we are kicking off October with a look at one of the oldest horror themed video game franchises (that also just celebrated a 40th anniversary) - Ghosts 'n Goblins! We cover the early games on NES, Genesis, and SNES that everyone knows and loves. Wait, does everyone love them? I thought so, but maybe not... We then cover some of the spin-off games with the Gargoyle's Quest and Maximo series before getting back into the more recent traditional releases on PSP and modern consoles. And if that's not enough Ghosts 'n Goblins content for you, we dive really deep into some obscure offshoots with some True or False trivia. So grab your dagger, and your - oh shoot I accidentally grabbed my torch. No one likes the torch. Well anyway, keep playing until the dagger shows back up and then join us for this deep dive - of Ghosts 'n Goblins!
I recently played the Pixel Remaster version for the first time, so I wanted to give Cecil and friends another round of RTG.I don't disagree with anyone that says Final Fantasy VI is the superior game, but IV isn't without its charm. I love the characters, betrayals, and combat system, and personally I like the linear party management of this one better to future entries where you can mix and match as you please. It's really wild to see how far JRPGs have come since Golbez's started robbing jewelry stores, and I think FF IV deserves its flowers for helping the series evolve from its basic NES counterparts.Captain N of the Retrotopia podcast joins me this week and we both geeked out pretty hard over this game. A couple dungeons (Dark Elf) and characters (Spoony Bard) got under our skin, but at the end of the day I think we agree that this is a must-play for fans of the genre, and a great place for someone new to Final Fantasy to get their feet wet. And before we argue with Tellah, I put together another edition of the Infamous Intro! This week, someone asks what the next big trend in gaming is going to be? What Mario moment blew my mind the most as a kid? And where doI stand on silent protagonists in games?Plus we play another round of 'Play One, Remake One, Erase One', too! This is the ideal. With every Second Runs episode, I hope to find out I not only still love the game I'm playing, but that I love it even more. That was the case with Sleeping Dogs. I remembered liking it a lot the first time I played it, but I adored it the second time. I adored it so much, I made it one of the rare games I 100%-ed, completing every aspect of the game, DLC included. Not only that, but I think I might do it a second time with the original release (which is truly insane if I do it). Long story short, Sleeping Dogs is a fantastic game, one well worth playing if you've never played it before.
About 100 episodes ago, we recorded Ep 060: Nintendo Hard / The Triumphant Return of Nintenjoe where we discussed some NES games that we loved despite their extreme levels of difficulty. Tonight, we are dipping back into that topic with the awesome Mike Levy from the Dongled channel on YouTube. We've got a whole new crop of tough as nails games for ya, and this time we decided to widen the scope to include SNES and Genesis titles as well! Expect limited continues, plenty of one hit kills and definitely no Konami code for extra lives. Will your favorite hard games make the list?

In this episode of The Game Deflators podcast, John and Ryan dive into a whirlwind of gaming topics. Starting with their latest Magic: The Gathering pickups and Ray's experience with the Spiderman pre-release. The duo then shares what they've been playing lately, with John visiting the gritty fantasy world of The Witcher 1 and Ryan eagerly exploring the atmospheric depths of Hollow Knight: Silksong. In this special episode of the SNES Podcast, Greg and Joe cover a remake of remake! The Wizrdry series started for personal computers in 1981 and is considered one of the original great CRPG's, which went on to inspire many famous franchises. The first three games were upgraded for the Famicom (with the first two getting a NES release) and then the games were upgraded slightly AGAIN for a Japanese only, VERY late, Super Famicom release. We discuss the history and the importance of the Wizardry franchise, how the games play on the SNES and how they hold up today. Have you've ever listened to a track and liked it, but wished there was more? That was the theme for this episode. For example, the short, twenty second long track from Gomola Speed sounds like the beginning of an 80's goth or new wave track. While still good on its own, it leaves you wishing there was just a bit more. Of course, these opinions are all subjective. So

And Super Metroid is fucking special. Some will argue this isn't just the best game on the SNES, but the best Metroidvania game ever made. From the atmosphere, to the music, to the controls (minus the wall jumping), Super Metroid doesn't really have a weakness. It's unquestionably one of the biggest NES to SNES leaps ever, and as a listener pointed out, it not only launched the Metroidvania genre, but it still does Metroidvania-ing better than games that came after it. Masterpiece is all that applies here.My boy Dan from Dissect That Film returns to this week to talk about his favourite game of all time, Super Metroid. The first RTG dedicated to Super Metroid was fun, but the audio was bad, even by our low standards. So we're here to right that wrong and give Samus the episode she deserves. And before we hunt bounties, I put together another edition of the Infamous Intro! This week someone asks what, if any, success I've had advertising RTG on the internet. Am I planning to play Kirby Air Riders? And what am I hoping to see out of the Gears of War movie??Plus we play another round of 'Play One, Remake One, Erase One', too! This one features 3 of the SNES's best: Link to the Past, Chrono Trigger, and Donkey Kong Country 2.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
On this week's Random Encounter, let's head to the bazaar and see what the RPGFan stall has in stock!First up, Niki is here to chat about Story of Seasons: Grand Bazaar. Harvest Moon DS: Grand Bazaar was a beloved entry in this long-running series on the Nintendo DS. Does this remake (with some updated branding) live up to the memories of the original? Then, Neal is here to share his thoughts about Quartet, a new retro-style JRPG from the developer of Shadows of Adam. While it looks like a pretty standard SNES JRPG on the surface, it is the mature storytelling and more modern mechanics that set it apart. If you miss the days of the SNES, this might be an RPG you'll want to check out!And finally, the entire panel shares what they are most excited about that was announced at Gamescom 2025!Featuring: Jono Logan, Neal Chandran, and Niki Fakhoori; Edited by Jono LoganGet in Touch:RPGFan.comRPGFan ShopEmail us: podcast@rpgfan.comTwitter: @rpgfancomBluesky: @rpgfan.bsky.socialInstagram: @rpgfancomThreads: @rpgfancomFacebook: rpgfancomTwitch: rpgfancomThis Episode's Related Links:Story of Seasons: Grand Bazaar ReviewHarvest Moon DS: Grand Bazaar ReviewQuartet ReviewShadows of Adam Review
"It will only cost you your life, and you got that for free!" A notable cult classic, an idiosyncratic game, a commercial failure and a fan favourite. Landing at a formative time for the JRPG genre in the west, EarthBound (Mother 2: G?gu no Gyakush? / Giygas Strikes Back) loomed very large over the gaming landscape sliding between Final Fantasy VI and Chrono Trigger, two of SquareSoft's biggest hitters from a relatively unknown studio. Join host Rich with Jon, Leah and guest Eddie Inzauto of the Smashing Bricks Podcast as we get to the bottom of this beloved title, from its peculiar launch, divisive marketing campaign, and underwhelming sales to what has become a darling title for Nintendo and SNES fans. http://media.blubrry.com/caneandrinse/caneandrinse.com/podcast/cane_and_rinse_issue_679.mp3 Music featured in this issue: 1.
