Episode 2 of this year's Backlog Month features a game very different from last week's. Backlog month this year is RPG heavy and one of those RPGs we are looking at is Live A Live. Live A Live is an RPG from Square Enix that originally released back in 1994 for the Super Famicom but was later given a remake and published world wide in 2023. Joining to chat about the may lives experienced in this game is the Twitch streamer Happy Bear! Happy and I had a great conversation about our experiences with this game, why the battle system is pretty awesome, why the end of the game probably sucks and also the logisitics of farting in imperial China. In this special episode of the SNES Podcast, Greg and Joe cover a remake of remake! The Wizrdry series started for personal computers in 1981 and is considered one of the original great CRPG's, which went on to inspire many famous franchises. The first three games were upgraded for the Famicom (with the first two getting a NES release) and then the games were upgraded slightly AGAIN for a Japanese only, VERY late, Super Famicom release. We discuss the history and the importance of the Wizardry franchise, how the games play on the SNES and how they hold up today. KnockBack: The Retro and Nostalgia Podcast

In 1992, Final Fantasy V came to Super Famicom in Japan, but in the west, the seminal JRPG would remain a mystery for years. In 1999 (via PS1!) English-speaking audiences would gain access to the game for the first time (unless you played fan translations via emulator, of course), and since then -- whether on GBA, PC, phones, or more recently modern consoles -- FFV has always held an interesting place in the pantheon of great Final Fantasy titles. Is it as monumental as IV, VI, or VII? Not at all. But it's still extremely special in its own right, an adventure predicated on a robust jobs system that would later help inspire the likes of Final Fantasy Tactics, jobs utilized by a small core group of protagonists that stand the test of time (and pull at your heartstrings, too). For KnockBack's triumphant return, we thought we'd get back into the Pixel Remasters where we left off, and needless to say, we've got a lot to go over. Welcome back, fellow mecha maniacs, to another electrifying episode of Play Comics! This week, we're strapping into our mobile suits and diving headfirst into the pixelated battlefield of Gundam Wing: Endless Duel on the Super Famicom. Prepare for a high-octane journey through the cosmos as we dissect this classic fighting game based on the legendary Mobile Suit Gundam franchise. But wait, there's more! We're thrilled to announce the return of our dynamic duo of guests, the incomparable Billy and the ever-enthusiastic Erinn! These two are back by popular demand, ready to share their insights, banter, and perhaps a few heated debates about their favorite Gundam pilots and mobile suits. Billy is a seasoned fighting game player who has mastered the intricacies of Endless Duel's combat system, while Erinn is a die-hard Gundam fan with an encyclopedic understanding of the series' lore and mecha designs. Together, they bring a unique perspective to the discussion, blending gameplay analysis with a genuine appreciation for the source material. Their chemistry and friendly banter are sure to keep the conversation engaging and entertaining throughout the episode. Learn such things as: Does anything good come along with giant robots? Is this finally the game where having a plot of “Everyone fights” actually works? How does Papa Roach play into any of this? And so much more! You can find Billy nowhere online because he's a hermit who hides out in those secret places of the internet that only we know about. You can find Erinn inside the laser that your cat is chasing, manically laughing because she'll never get caught. Ahoy there Dropouts, and welcome to a lengthy in-depth study about Final Fantasy IV's influence on Final Fantasy XIV! Final Fantasy IV first came to the Super Famicom in 1991, and is still regarded as Final Fantasy's first instance of getting deep into narrative. Unsurprisingly, many of the characters, locales, monsters, and lore Final Fantasy IV introduced us to has been given ample representation in Final Fantasy XIV. Black Chocobos! The Dragoon Pose!™ Troia! Tall men in black armour! And gee Zero, how come Hydelin lets you have TWO moons? Nadia, Victor, and Marc Duddleson from My Life in Gaming tally up the references.
