Somedays you just can't get rid of a gentleman, but today, we just might get rid of their shirts. After Jonathan outlines another plan for after being elected President of the United States of America, we spend a moment talking about James Bond in both movie and video game form, focusing on the GameCube era game "Everything or Nothing" starring Willem Dafoe (for real). Later, Jonathan talks with game developer Shawn Alexander Allen (Nu Challenger, Treachery in Beatdown City) about his new spin off game "Beatdown City Survivors" and where it fits into today's political climate (you can also watch the interview here: https://youtu.be/NEq9dH9hflw . Number 1031There hasn't been a traditional Nintendo Direct since September 2025, but Nintendo FINALLY changed that this week with a super-sized showcase! There's all kinds of major reveals, interesting updates, surprises and more to cover, and we tackle them ALL. One of the reveals was so big that it genuinely led to a change of heart for me, and I have a feeling many of you will be quite happy to hear it!

Welcome back to Pursuing Pixels. We've got the full crew in the house once again, and we've got all sorts of gaming goodies to discuss, so let's get into it... John gets things started off with a handful of RPGs that he's been digging into recently — including a couple of recent indie releases, alongside a couple of modern day entries to the genre from the veterans over at Square Enix. Randall takes over from there, and shines a little light on a semi-forgotten retro game from the legendary developers over at Treasure. Finally, Kevin closes things out with a spotlight on one of his all-time favorite competitive multiplayer games, as he revisits the original Super Mario Strikers on GameCube for the first time in ages. Number 1030It is game showcase insanity, with the last two days alone bringing us over 15 hours of presentations, reveals, updates and more. That crazy schedule has had me glued to my computer covering everything, which meant I had no idea when I could squeeze the latest episode of the GoNintendo Podcast in. It just so happened to be today, and you're getting a completely unhinged solo show from me...and clearly I need some sleep!

Send us Fan MailIntro; Top 10 Zelda games.
Kirby Battle Royale is a game often considered one of the worst Kirby games, and it was no doubt disappointing that the game wasn't larger in scope or equipped with better online features (especially for a game all about multiplayer battles). But behind the game's flaws is a clever minigame collection with surprisingly good 3D Kirby combat, a lot of unlockables, and creative experiments that still make the game stand out today. It was the first Kirby game to offer native support for online multiplayer, it offered post-launch DLC, and it gave players the rare opportunity to vote on new abilities to add to the game (introducing the only appearance of Sleep as a combat ability). While it might have fallen short of its potential, it's not short on fun gameplay, so for this episode, Sean, Gigi, and Bridget are giving Royale the royal treatment to show how you can acknowledge the game's flaws while still finding a lot to enjoy in it.Questions or comments about the show? We always love hearing from listeners, and you can reach us at mail@kirbyconversations.com or submit your question to us on social media.Sean also has a new podcast covering the GameCube, Dreamcast, and other games of the 2000s called Millennium Edition, and we hope you will subscribe to that one as well! Read transcriptAt some point in the early 2000s, someone looked at the Dragon Ball Z manga and anime, a story full of screaming men who power up for entire episodes, hair that defies physics, and villains who monologue long enough for the protagonist to reach a new power level, and said, “Yes. This. But make it a fighting game. On two, and only two, consoles.” And thus, Dragon Ball Z Budokai 2 arrived on PS2 and GameCube, ready to let you spend an unreasonable amount of time unlocking characters and pretending you know what a Fusion Dance is supposed to look like in real life. This episode, we're going Super Saiyan on the whole thing. The game, the manga, the anime, the drama, the capsules, the questionable story mode decisions. All of it. And joining us to power up the conversation is Russell Moran from Kaiju ComiCast, who brings exactly the kind of kaiju-sized enthusiasm this franchise demands. So take a deep breath, squeeze out every last drop of ki you've got, and let's get into it. Your hair may or may not turn gold by the end. No promises. Learn such things as: What's worse than taking a risk and totally failing? What's keeping us from getting the epic Toriyama Universe fighting crossover event that we all want to badly? Can you really say that the roster has 50 different characters when 10 of them are different versions of the same dude? And so much more! You can find Russell on BlueSky @kaijucomiccast, Instagram @kaijucomiccast, and of course at his podcast Kaiju ComiCast. This week's episode is all about my continued love affair with Stardew Valley, with a little bit of Forza Horizon 6 on the side.
A wild week in gaming as PSN accounts get stolen, Valve takes aim at scalpers, rare PS4 copies of Poop Slinger resurface, GTA 6's publisher flexes its expected profits, and the Game Deflators review Ed Edd n Eddy on GameCube. 00:00 Introduction 01:51 Recent Game Pickups and Magic Cards Discussion 04:51 Gameplay Experiences and Strategies in Commander 07:55 Exploring New Game Mechanics and Deck Strategies 11:06 Valkyrie Profile and Other Game Updates 14:00 Insurance for Game Collectors and Cataloging Collections 16:54 Personal Gaming Experiences and Stardew Valley 19:58 Soros Gameplay and Progression 28:47 News on Limited Game Releases and Poopslinger 34:25 The Impact of Limited Rare on Game Value 34:55 PlayStation Network Security Concerns 37:17 Xbox's Customer Feedback and Exclusive Games 39:02 Grand Theft Auto VI: Anticipation and Financial Projections 47:17 Valve's Strategy Against Scalpers 01:00:42 Ed, Edd n Eddy: Misadventures Review and Nostalgia 01:13:14 Outro John and Ryan dive into one of the strangest and most entertaining weeks in gaming news, blending industry shake‑ups, collector surprises, and a retro review that hits right in the early‑2000s nostalgia. They kick things off with the unexpected return of Poop Slinger, the notoriously rare PS4 oddball that suddenly started appearing in game stores. The guys break down why this bizarre title became a collector legend and what its reappearance means for rarity chasers. From there, the tone shifts as they dig into a growing security mess: PlayStation Network account thefts. Hackers are reportedly exploiting minimal recovery info to hijack accounts, and John and Ryan unpack how this is happening. Next up is the biggest flex in gaming: GTA 6's publisher openly bragging about the astronomical revenue they expect at launch. The hosts debate whether this confidence is earned hype or corporate chest‑thumping at its finest. Valve enters the spotlight with a surprisingly proactive move as the company unveils its plan to stop Steam Machine scalpers. John and Ryan explore how Valve intends to curb botting and whether this could become a model for future hardware releases. To wrap things up, the Inflation Deflation Game of the Week takes a nostalgic turn with a review of Ed, Edd n Eddy: The Mis‑Edventures on GameCube. Expect childhood memories, questionable physics, and a debate over whether this cartoon tie‑in deserves its current market price. GIMME THAT STARFOX MOVIE! - Super Mario Galaxy Full Movie Watch Along: / thereelrejects The Super Mario Galaxy Movie Animated Movie Reaction & Breakdown with Greg Alba, Andrew Gordon, Jon Maturan, and John Humphrey! With the absolute massive box office success of The Super Mario Bros. Movie setting up a fast-paced multiverse, Nintendo, Universal Pictures, and Illumination Studios Paris have returned to the cosmos for the biggest event of the Super Mario Bros. 40th Anniversary celebration: The Super Mario Galaxy Movie. Support The Channel By Getting Some REEL REJECTS Apparel! https://www.rejectnationshop.com/ In this full Super Mario Galaxy movie reaction, the Reel Rejects crew dives deep into the incredible, fast-paced world building and jaw-dropping computer graphics of Illumination's latest video game adaptation masterpiece. We break down the massive ensemble cast, including Chris Pratt (Guardians of the Galaxy, The Lego Movie) returning as Mario, Anya Taylor-Joy (The Queen's Gambit, Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga) as Princess Peach, and Charlie Day (It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Pacific Rim) reprising his role as Luigi. We also check out the massive new cast additions, including Brie Larson (Captain Marvel, Room) as outer-space princess Rosalina, Donald Glover (Atlanta, Solo: A Star Wars Story) bringing the iconic Yoshi to life, and Benny Safdie (Oppenheimer, Uncut Gems) as the unhinged, approval-seeking Bowser Jr. Our hosts break down all the chaotic, sensory-overload action sequences, the mind-blowing transitions from 2D tribute animation back into full 3D models, and the amazing orchestral score by composer Brian Tyler. From the introduction of the Boomsday weapon and Bowser Jr.'s paintbrush mechanics to the unforgettable Star Fox crossover sequence featuring Glen Powell (Top Gun: Maverick, Anyone But You) as Fox McCloud flying the Arwing, this movie gave our hosts plenty to unpack. We also discuss the unexpected father-son dynamics between Jack Black's (School of Rock, Kung Fu Panda) King Bowser and Bowser Jr., the pixel pinñata party, the Honeyhive Galaxy run featuring Issa Rae (Barbie) as the Honey Queen, Luis Guzmán (Wednesday) as Wart at the GameCube roulette casino table, and that incredible Terminator 2 homage ending with Lava Bowser becoming the Skull King. As we dissect the mixed critic reviews versus the massive audience score, we're asking: is The Super Mario Galaxy Movie better than the first film? Does the bare minimum of storytelling work when a movie completely understands its experiential assignment? And are we officially getting a full-blown Super Smash Bros. cinematic universe? What happens when a video game stops playing by the rules? Doug and returning guest Noah (Gunchpot) go deep on the most creative, bizarre, and genuinely brilliant video game mechanics ever designed — from games that fake-crash your console to math games that secretly turn into space jail simulators. Games covered include Shenmue (the 1999 Dreamcast game that made boredom part of the experience by giving you an actual forklift job), Seaman (raise a fish with a human face that insults you, narrated by Leonard Nimoy), Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem (the GameCube horror game that fake-deleted your save file and muted your TV on purpose), Metal Gear Solid (Psycho Mantis reads your memory card and comments on your other games), Facade (a 2005 AI couples therapy simulator where typing the word "melon" gets you thrown out of the apartment), Frog Fractions (a browser math game that secretly turns into a completely different game — then hid its sequel inside an entirely separate game for years), Doki Doki Literature Club (the anime dating sim that deletes characters from your hard drive as part of its horror), Disco Elysium (where your skills literally argue with you and you can fail a check just trying to get out of bed), and WarioWare (five-second micro games with one-word instructions and zero hand-holding). Plus: QWOP, Baby Steps, Superhot VR, Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes, I Am Bread, and more. Before all that: Noah is working through 800 of 1,000 movies on his Letterboxd watchlist, watched Ghostbusters and Jurassic Park for the first time this year, and is deep in the David Lynch rabbit hole. Doug's dog Bruno had a very eventful Mother's Day morning involving a rabbit, a shovel, and a crow. Then it's time for The Verdict — the Letterboxd review guessing game. This round covers The Mummy, Devil Wears Prada 2, Nosferatu, Longlegs, Conclave, Barbie, Glass Onion, and Andor. This week's recommendations: Noah: Casino Royale. One of the best action films ever made, full stop. Doug: Potion Seller's debut album Buzzard is out now. Go listen. Brainsynthesizer.com for merch and physical copies. This week's episode is all about Mixtape, a game I really liked and almost loved because of a shared love of music. What holds it back is the fact that as a game, there's just not much going on, but if that doesn't bother you, you may end up having a wonderful time as one of yesterday's heroes.
Return to a time when the Star Fox series got regular games that were sequels to the one that came before! But what to make of the GameCube's Star Fox Assault, the 2005 follow-up to Star Fox Adventures? We look at the origins of Namco's contribution to the Star Fox mythos and how it took the series back to something a bit more traditional... while still pushing the gameplay forward and embracing Rare's characters and lore.

What makes a game a good Kirby-adjacent recommendation? Is it the ability to use enemy powers? Smash Bros.-like controls? Or maybe just solid platforming with a round, memorable character? For this episode, we cover all of these elements and more with another list of non-Kirby games we think Kirby fans should try. We're deliberately going in this weeds with some of these choices, spanning multiple consoles and even one never-released Super Famicom title, and we hope you walk away having learned about at least a few new games you want to check out.Questions or comments about the show? We always love hearing from listeners, and you can reach us at mail@kirbyconversations.com or submit your question to us on social media.Sean also has a new podcast covering the GameCube, Dreamcast, and other games of the 2000s called Millennium Edition, and we hope you will subscribe to that one as well! Read transcriptSometimes a game says it's based on a comic. Sometimes a movie says it's based on a comic. And sometimes a game says it's based on that movie that says it's based on a comic, and suddenly we're three layers deep in adaptation lasagna. This week, we're cracking open Over the Hedge for the PS2, GameCube, and Xbox—a game that definitely follows the movie's lead and only politely waves at the original comic strip from across the yard. Expect sneaking, snacking, and more suburban chaos than your average HOA meeting can handle. Joining the show is Doug Fink (Walloping Web Snappers, Falling with Style, Novel Gaming, and Skreeonk) to help sort out what happens when animals, energy drinks, and licensed games collide in one very busy backyard. Grab your energy drinks and questionable life choices. I hope you don't get pinched by the exterminator. Learn such things as: Is the key to all of this the friends you bring along the way? Are humans and urban sprawl the real villains here? Do you actually need to base a game on a thing to have it be based on the thing? And so much more! You can find Doug on BlueSky @ickybooley and of course all of his wonderful shows on the Glitterjaw Queer Podcast Collective, Walloping Websnappers, Novel Gaming, Falling with Style, and Skreeonk. If you want to be a guest on the show please check out the Be a A Guest on the Show page and let me know what you're interested in. Number 1025If you thought there's been a lot of Nintendo-related movie talk lately, you haven't seen anything yet! Metroid movie rumors are flying, and a mystery Nintendo/Illumination film is in the works for 2028. Could it be Donkey Kong, or perhaps Star Fox? We're not sure, but we talk about that and a WHOLE lot more on today's show!

Host JR Sparrow sits down with intellectual property attorney Kirk Sigmon to break down Sony's controversial new DRM policy requiring players to check in online every 30 days to maintain access to their digital games. What starts as a deep dive into the legal fine print turns into a wide-ranging conversation about game ownership, consumer rights, the evolution of console ecosystems, and the future of the gaming industry.Guest: Kirk Sigmon Kirk Sigmon is an intellectual property attorney with over a decade of experience working with companies across the U.S., Japan, Korea, China, and Europe. His specialties include patents, trademarks, and copyrights — with a particular focus on video game law. He is a graduate research cohort member at Dartmouth studying artificial intelligence, deep learning, machine vision, and FPGAs. He also co-founded Ban, a law firm specializing in tech and IP law, and Patent Arcade, a website dedicated to video game intellectual property.Topics CoveredSony's 30-Day DRM Check-In Policy – What it means, how it works, and why it became a controversyDo You Actually Own Your Digital Games? – The difference between ownership and licensing, and what "shrink wrap" and "click wrap" agreements really sayGame Delisting & Preservation – From PT to Cars 3: Driven to Win, what happens when games disappear from storefrontsThe Sony BMG Rootkit Scandal (2005) – A look back at Sony's history of controversial DRM decisionsThe Stop Killing Games Movement – Will legislation eventually force publishers to preserve access to digital titles?Microsoft vs. Sony vs. Everyone Else – How the Xbox One DRM debacle parallels today's Sony situation, and what it means for consumer trustThe Rise of PC & Steam Deck Gaming – Why console manufacturers are more at risk than ever of losing their audienceApple vs. Epic – A brief look at how that legal battle affected digital game access for consumersHalo on PlayStation – The duo's honest take on Microsoft exclusives coming to Sony's platform and what it means for console loyaltyMetal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes – The legal and creative story behind the GameCube remake and its soundtrack licensing issuesKey TakeawaysWhen you buy a digital game, you are most likely purchasing a license, not ownership — the terms of service govern what you can and cannot do.Sony's DRM rollout suffered from a lack of transparency; much of the information surfaced through customer support chats rather than official announcements.Game companies are aware of the legal risk of class action suits and have, in some cases, proactively refunded players when online games shut down early. The gaming landscape is more competitive than ever — between PC, Steam Deck, and cross-platform releases, console makers can no longer take player loyalty for granted.Connect with Kirk SigmonLaw Firm: Ban (specializing in tech & IP law)Website: Patent Arcade – video game IP law news, analysis, and a database of 5,000+ gaming patents https://kelldann.com/gaming/https://larc.cardozo.yu.edu/clr/vol45/iss1/4/
FEATURING: Syrenne joins the two greatest sages in business, the enlighted duo and J and J DreamFactory, to talk about the state of the industry, the attention economy, and just how much of a mess everything is. At some point we also talk about meme games. No timecodes this week because the entire episode is unstructured.
Number 1024Why is this episode super-sized? I know you'll find it hard to believe, but the vast majority of this podcast is spent talking about Nintendo topics. No, I'm being serious! A particularly juicy convo comes up about The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, but I won't spoil what it's about. Also, no worries, there's still plenty of random and stupid conversations as well. It wouldn't be the GoNintendo Podcast without them!
