Today on Too Opinionated, we sit down with the team behind the short film Happy Endings Funeral Parlor. Directed by Kevin Boston, the film stars actor and producer Zachary Roozen, who has appeared in over 70 film festivals and is known for Romeo and Juliet Killers (2022), Into the Dark (2018) and Happy Endings Funeral Parlor and Kyle Ricchetti, a multi-hyphenate actor, writer, and producer known for his work on Amazon and Hulu. Together, they present the theme of death from a unique childhood perspective, slipping into humor as a coping mechanism—a perspective that Ricchetti draws from his own personal experiences. Happy Endings Funeral Parlor also stars lead actor Trevor Larcom best known for True Detective (2014), Fresh Off the Boat (2015) and Thunder Force (2021). Johnny and Marcell Remo are two brothers managing a failing funeral parlor for their oddball Uncle Nicky. Set against the backdrop of rural Iowa and tasked with transporting the body of notorious mobster Frankie Bananas to his funeral service, everything that can go wrong does go wrong. Due to their hasty negligence and erratic driving, the casket springs loose and flies out of the hearse onto a busy city street! After hitting a pothole the body of Frankie Bananas goes airborne and crashes into an innocent family's car windshield. The family, in panic, believes they have hit a man walking innocently down the street. As tensions rise back at the cemetery between Uncle Nicky and Frankie's son Tony, the brothers must think on their feet and deliver the body promptly and in one piece. Tony, near breaking point, becomes more hostile with poor old Uncle Nicky, threatening him with physical force. Following the chaos of the car accident, the brothers finally arrive at the cemetery. The two groups wind up in a scuffle over the incident. After cooling down, the service is finally able to commence, or is it? Will the Remo family business go down in flames? Will the mafia seek revenge for the incident? Happy Endings Funeral Parlor... the film people are dying to see. Want to watch: YouTube Meisterkhan Pod (Please Subscribe)
Introduction: Minutes 0 to 4:15 I watched Thunder Force on Netflix and loved it. Chandra had to subscribe to ESPN+ due to DirectTV's feud with Disney. She is watching In the Arena with Serena Williams. Royals: Minute 4:15 to 21:00 The last time we recorded the Sussexes had arrived in Colombia. They pulled off that trip like professionals and the optics were amazing. Colombia's Vice President Francia Marquez said that Harry and Meghan's visit really highlighted tourism. We heard that it only cost Colombia less than $60,000 to provide security for them. The Sussexes did a great job making photos available to agencies. Emily Andrews let it slip that Buckingham Palace had talking points about this trip. King Charles went to Southport last week to visit the families of children who were murdered in a knife attack. Charles has been staying in Scotland at his smaller home, Birkhall, while other members of the family stay at Balmoral. Kate was seen headed to church there on August 25th. There was a story in GB News that Zara and Mike Tindall were being asked to relieve Prince William and Princess Kate. There's an undercurrent that William and Kate are incapable of doing their jobs. Prince Harry made a secret visit to the UK last week to go to his uncle Robert Fellowes' funeral. Harry stayed at Althorp with the Earl Spencer. You could tell that the Windsors were super mad they didn't know about Harry's visit ahead of time. The Windsors are mad at how much the Spencers support Harry. There's been a narrative in the British press that Harry wants to come back to the UK to do royal work. It's clearly coming from William's side. This narrative has been pushed by William for years. Chandra thinks this storyline is an attempt to distract from what's going on with Kate. Toward the end of this month Prince Harry is going to be in New York solo for UN climate week. He's going to speak at the Clinton Global Initiative. Prince William will not be going to NY on behalf of Earthshot despite pathetically trying to copykeen Harry's trip last year. We wonder why William and Kate didn't do any events during the Sussexes' trip. Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie: Minutes 21:00 to 31:30 This week both Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt premiered their movies at the Venice Film Festival. Angelina is starring as opera star Maria Callas in the biopic Maria. She is getting Oscar buzz for that and it's coming out on Netflix. Braad is starring with George Clooney in the Apple streaming movie Wolfs. It was supposed to come out in theaters but that's not happening. Brad Pitt made his red carpet debut with Ines de Ramon. Brad and Angelina are covering People Magazine this week with the title “Brad and Angelina, their 8 year divorce, Can they Finally Move On,” as if Brad's legal battle against Angelina is mutual. The whole narrative comes from Brad and it's the same garbage we've seen from him for years as he uses legal means to continue to try and punish Angelina for leaving him after he abused her and their children. Brad Pitt looks pulled and puffy recently. There's been a shift in public perception about Brad Pitt, especially since Shiloh changed her last name. Comments of the week: Minutes 31:30 to end Chandra's comment of the week is from It Really Is You, Not Me on the post about Justin Theroux's engagement. My comments of the week are from HeatherC and Indica on Rosie's post about Oasis potentially adding US dates to their tour. Thanks for listening bitches!

Intimacy Coordinator Reveals How Sex Scenes Are Staged and How Actors Are Protected! From Basic Instinct to Call Me by Your Name, Coming Home to Fifty Shades of Grey, P-Valley to Outlander, sex scenes play a vital role in movies, TV shows, and plays spanning genres and subjects. Yet, as dramas and comedies increasingly reflect the reality of diversity, depicting acts of intimacy in a way that's genuine, affecting, free from entrenched stereotypes, and respectful to audiences and actors is a challenge. In The Intimacy Coordinator's Guidebook: Specialties for Stage and Screen (Routledge; April 1, 2024; Original Trade Paperback; ISBN: 978‑1‑032‑53147‑2), Brooke M. Haney reveals how intimacy coordinators use their cultural competencies and specialties in practice to create the most compelling storytelling. As Haney stresses, the job requires competency in the language of choreography - every move performed for the camera or a live audience, from a passionate kiss to a chilling assault, is meticulously choreographed, just like a dance or a fight scene - along with training in tools like modesty garments and props. In addition, an intimacy coordinator must possess excellent communication skills and the ability to read situations and respond proactively. What's more, every intimacy coordinator must find their unique lens. (For instance, some coordinators are specialists in bondage, whereas others are specialists working with minors.) The book features other intimacy coordinators' stories. It includes conversations with Olivia Luccardi (a producer and actress who played Melissa in The Deuce, the first television show to employ an intimacy coordinator), Tai Leshaun (a Black actress in Thunder Force and The Other Black Girl), Becca Blackwell (a trans actor, performer and writer), Jimmy Smits (an Emmy Award-winning Latino actor known for roles in TV dramas from NYPD Blue to Sons of Anarchy) and other Hollywood insiders who have worked on projects involving intimacy.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/arroe-collins-unplugged-totally-uncut--994165/support.

A comedic superhero movie with a great cast that falls short.
Actress Melissa Ponzio joins The Art of Kindness with Robert Peterpaul to discuss the act of kindness that helped her book Teen Wolf, returning for Teen Wolf: The Movie, being inspired by Sigourney Weaver and much more. Melissa Ponzio spent most of her childhood clowning it up at school and impersonating her beloved family. Then late one night, the New York native City saw Sigourney Weaver in “Alien” and knew right then and there what she wanted to be…an alien! But they said she couldn't really be an alien, so on to the next best thing: acting! Over the years, Melissa's onscreen presence has captivated audiences across so many projects… seriously I could sit here naming them for the entire show: She's notably had recurring roles in the hit NBC series, “Chicago Fire,” AMC's “The Walking Dead,” HULU's “The Girl From Plainville,” BET+'s “First Wives Club,” Cinemax's “Banshee” and Lifetime's “Army Wives,” as well as a never-ending list of guest star roles. On the film front, she's been seen playing opposite Octavia Spencer and Melissa McCarthy in Thunder Force on Netflix, Hilary Swank in HBO's original film Mary and Martha and their historical drama “Warm Springs,” with Kenneth Branagh and Cynthia Nixon, and - throwback - in the comedy, “Life As We Know It,” with Josh Duhamel and Katherine Heigl. Of course, Melissa is now back on screen in the Paramount+ “Teen Wolf: The Movie” revival, reprising her beloved role as ‘Melissa McCall,' the hard-working and devoted single mother to ‘Scott' (played by Tyler Posey). She previously starred in the MTV “Teen Wolf” series for six seasons. Got kindness tips or stories? Every queer person has that one childhood friendship that was just a little too intense to be platonic. This week, Leigh (@lshfoster) and Ellie (@elliebrigida) talk about the 2021 Netflix superhero comedy Thunder Force. This movie stars Melissa McCarthy as Lydia and Octavia Spencer as Emily being so incredibly gay together that even Emily's grandmother ships them. Lydia and Emily have the best meet-cute. Little Lydia saves the day by knocking out Emily's bullies and then they bond on the swings. Later on Emily literally makes them rainbow friendship bracelets. This is the type of romantic soulmate level backstory that we wish actual lesbian films would have. Of course, Emily and Lydia end up having an overly intense friend breakup. Then we jump forward in time. Even after 20 years have passed, Lydia has nothing but love for Emily and has been pining after her all this time. She hasn't even seen Emily for 2 decades and Lydia is still fully secure in the fact that they are best friends. Thunder Force was massively underappreciated and only got a 21% on Rotten Tomatoes, because whenever there are two female leads in a superhero movie there tends to be a disappointing lack of support. However, this movie is 100% worth the watch for Melissa McCarthy's humor and the most adorable love story between Emily and Lydia. We're just going to pretend that they get married with the cake topper Emily's grandma made and they went on to be a family with Emily's daughter Tracy. Several of the other characters in this movie were super queer too, like Tracy, the Shane wannabe, Laser, the flamboyant guy who kills all his boyfriends after he gets bored with them, The King, and the obvious lesbian, Allie. Throughout the movie it's like a running joke that Lydia and Emily are gay together. It's treated like a joke the entire time by everyone except Lydia's grandma who knows lesbian soulmates when she sees them and eagerly awaits their wedding. We know one thing for sure, Thunder Force Should've Been Gay. Follow along on Twitter: Lez Hang Out (@lezhangoutpod) and answer our Q & Gay at the end of every episode. For our season 1 finale, we finally tackle the movie that SHOULD have been named Worst Picture of 2021, Thunder Force. While it wasn't nominated for a single Razzie, Ben Falcone and Melissa McCarthy's latest collaborative effort is but one of a whole line of films that beg the simple question: Why? We don't just tear Thunder Force apart -- we go back through the entirety of On The Day Production's films (2014's Tammy, 2016's The Boss, 2018's Life of the Party, and 2020's Superintelligence) to show conclusively that Falcone has not learned much as a director, writer, or storyteller, and break down the bad habits he and McCarthy fall into in the process. But, really, are they ALL bad? Join us for an academic treatise comparing On The Day's work to that of Adam Sandler, the absolute worst super powers you've ever heard of, bewilderment over Octavia Spencer's utter lack of emotion, and more praise for one weird crab man than you probably needed to hear. We also take a moment to gush about how good The Batman and Everything, Everywhere, All At Once are, because we clearly needed to talk about anything other than these bad comedies for a bit. When capitalism breaks your brain, sometimes you need to kick back with something relaxing. But when you're us and you're still recovering from 50 Shades of Grey and also neck deep in Thunder Force prep, you end up talking about whether or not Batman villains are good in bed. So instead of going to confession, we decided to apply a methodology to it and truly figure out who is the BEST CINEMATIC BATMAN VILLAIN (in bed). From 1968 to today, we judge each of these on-screen menaces based on their performance (scale of 1 to 5), comic book accuracy (scale of 1 to 3), character's sexual prowess (scale of 1 to 3), and the actor's inherent f*@$ability (scale of 1 to 3). Jack tabulated his scores in advance along with community pervert BeLinda Berry, and Joe did his live. Is this stupid? Yes. Did we think it would take this long? No. Is it fun? You bet your Bat-nipples it is! Check it out and we apologize in advance for any Burgess Meredith Penguin nightmares you may have. Happy holidays to you, dear listeners! Grab a festive mug, fill it with your favorite hot beverage, and huddle up to your phone or other podcast listening device for a very special Pretty Pixels Xmas Special. Yes, I said “special” twice, because this episode is filled with holiday magic. Join us (Ron, Paul, and Joey) as we recall some of our fondest (and… regular-ist?) Christmas and holiday memories. There are surprises, fake-outs, a virtual grandpa absolutely demolishing his real-life family members in the ring, and yes, there is even a NINTENDO 64!!! *dramatic fist pumps* (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pFlcqWQVVuU) And, for reasons I'm already forgetting even though we literally just finished recording, Joey shares a recent dream he had about Taylor Swift. She has a great Christmas song so that totally fits the theme. Kind of. Maybe. Let's move on. We also talk about the newest Nintendo Online Plus Expansion Pack games, the free Final Fantasy VII Remake PS5 upgrade for PS Plus members, Hades' Hugo Award win, and what we've been playing. Have fun gaming/geeky holiday stories you want to share? Send us an email and we might read it on an upcoming episode! Mandy Kaplan leads Mandy Fabian and Pete Wright on a matinée journey this morning as we talk news, trailers, games, and a list of terrific movies celebrating our older performers. But we start where all good SatMats start, with a discussion of major stars who have turned down Marvel roles for one reason or another. Tom Cruise? Emily Blunt? Yup, they're on the list, along with some other surprises. Why would you turn down such a role? Fabian has some thoughts. The oddball charmer 'Dickinson' is coming back for just one more season, but they're going out with a bang on new casting news. Top Gun: Maverick, MI7, and more are all moving their theatrical slate. 'Tis the season after all. And Mike Richards is out of the Jeopardy host box. And Mike Richards is out of the Jeopardy host box.Trailers! We're hoping for more than we got with Thunder Force as Kaplan brings Melissa McCarthy's latest dramatic turn, The Starling for her trailer pick. We largely missed the cultural import of Diana and the Royals because we're all TOO YOUNG. Did you hear that? We're too young to understand it. But that's not stopping us from talking about Fabian's pick, Spencer. And Pete, proving how comically hardcore he is now with horror movies — oh, you hadn't heard? He loves them now — we talk about James Wan's latest, Malignant... staring James Wan. Games!Kaplan's game is a speed round of 80's classic movie line trivia. It's a straight forward brainbreaker, but Pete and Fabian hold their own. You'll want to remember this one, because if Tommy has his way, you'll be crying through his first hosting duty coming in two weeks with a variation on this theme. This week, we're joined by our first real guest (but not listener), Super Husband, who talks about how he knew Ed Chen before the murders, what it was like to find out, what Great Falls was like back in the 90s, and his own takes on the story of the Chen Family Murders. Look at us! Who would've thought? We also talk about Super Husband's SECOND brush with a murderer, which is, frankly, a bananas sentence to type. The Book and Film Globe podcast made its debut this week on Clubhouse. Every Friday at 1 pm EST, BFG editor in chief Neal Pollack will discuss the week's best stories with the writers who created them. This week on the podcast, Neal talks about his story on the demise of LA's beloved Arclight movie theater with the site's chief film critic Stephen Garrett. They also discuss Stephen's take on ‘My Octopus Teacher.' Oddsmaker Daniel Cohen joins Neal to ponder who is most likely to replace Alex Trebek as permanent host of Jeopardy! As a bonus, they also handicap who will win the pandemic edition of Top Chef. And finally, Omar Gallaga joins the show to discuss Thunder Force and reveals himself to be a “Melissa McCarthy apologist, no matter how many times she hurts me.”
You thought this was over? Nah, not even. Who doesn't love a good coming of age tale, but does The Kings of Summer scratch that itch? We also discuss how Adam (2009) maybe tried too hard to be uncomplicated. Just do yourself a favor and keep your expectations low for Thunder Force when you decide to watch it. And just what do they use for those raw chicken scenes anyway? Some sort of gummy candy?Follow us on Twitter

Join Sis and Big Pops for a talk about pop culture news fun things happening in movies, tv-shows, and comic books. We discuss Alfred Molina in the new Spiderman, the new LOTR TV-show, The Meg 2, and Fast and Furious 9. We discuss what we're bingeing right now, Sis is still really enjoying Suits, and Big Pops watched The Fifth Element and Young Frankenstein with the lovely creator of our cover art, Nate the Great. Pops shares his pull list, there are a few comics that have ended runs that he thinks will make grade trade paperbacks – 7 Secrets and Homesick Pilots – he also really enjoyed the end of Thor and Usagi Yojimbo. He is still enjoying collecting Batman, Daredevil, Avengers, and Green Lantern—great stories abound in DC and Marvel this week. He specifically suggested we read Home by Image Comics, it's a hard read, but important. We reviewed the new film Thunder Force, which we decided was funny (somtimes) and not really anything we would enjoy listening to again. We also reviewed the first six comics in DCEASED, which brought up some wild super hero zombie shenanigans. Listen in for some Family-friendly nerd fun! This episode was originally recorded on 4/18/21. Check us out on twitter @sisnpopsculture
