Python 3.11 und Listen 15. November 2022, Jochen Johannes, Dominik und Jochen unterhalten sich über Python 3.11. Hauptthema hätte eigentlich Listen als Datenstruktur sein sollen, aber zu Python 3.11 gab es dann doch etwas mehr zu sagen, daher war das dann nicht so ausführlich wie geplant. Überhaupt hatten wir diesmal recht viele Abschweifungen und Nebenthemen drin. Aber gut, mit den Kapitelmarken sollte man die auch skippen können. Watch out time loop movie enthusiasts, damp squib Reegs is here to stop you bending the rules. Ever since I'd heard about EVERYTHING EVERYWHERE ALL AT ONCE (2022), a martial arts comedy with a mind-bending concept from The Daniels, whose SWISS ARMY MAN delighted us with its mix of absurdity, vulgarity and profundity, starring the legendary Michelle Yeoh and Data from THE GOONIES I was pretty excited about the prospect of seeing it. Though I have mostly managed to avoid reviews and remain unspoilt, it has been impossible to avoid the hype that has surrounded it's release, with paragraph after paragraph already devoted to examining the movie's plot and themes so my expectations were suitably high.  An intimidating film to talk about due to its dense plotting, genre mixing and jarring tonal moments where the absurd and ridiculous are juxtaposed with the genuine and heartfelt, on first viewing I found the experience borderline overwhelming and had a mixed initial reaction but having had the chance to think and rewatch it, I came to love it.  This is not an easy movie to synopsise, but I'll have a go. Evelyn Wang (Michelle Yeoh) runs a struggling laundromat with her husband Waymond (Ke Huy Quan), whom she married after rejecting her conservative father Gong Gong's advice not to, whilst coming to terms with her daughter Joy's sexuality and her worries as to what the judgemental Gong Gong will think of it. Oblivious to Waymond's attempts to file divorce papers, they attend a make it or break it meeting with an IRS auditor who eventually gives them extra time to submit their receipts. In between quite a lot of other stuff happens, most of it you're better off discovering yourself.  A film which rewards multiple viewings, with themes about family and parenting, rejecting hopelessness, the power of kindness but wrapped up in a complex science fiction device, featuring absurd and crude humour, inventive visuals and kick ass martial arts, which builds and resolves multiple emotional story arcs that all advance or expand upon the main story, centering on the complicated relationship between a mother and daughter, this is an utterly unique experience.  STAR VS. THE FORCES OF EVIL tells the story of princess Star Butterfly, banished to earth to practice wielding the awesome power of the Royal Magic Wand. There's a universe somewhere where this wasn't heavily derivative stylistically and conceptually of several other much better shows, but it isn't this one.We love to hear from our listeners! We talked through the backstory, how a user’s network gets formed, how data is stored and shared, why off-grid is so important to Andre, and what type of user uses an “off-the-grid” social network.

Dominic Tarr is a hacker who resides on a sailboat, usually found in New Zealand's beautiful Hauraki Gulf. In recent years he has risen to fame as the creator of the Secure Scuttlebutt protocol, Scuttlebutt for short. Scuttlebutt is comprised of a standardized message format and a subjective append only log stored locally by users. The first application has been a multi-client decentralized social media platform that is an absolute joy to use, and I encourage everyone to download my favourite desktop client, Patchwork, or Manyverse for Android. As an autonomous software system, like Bitcoin, Scuttlebutt rewards the provisioning of resources to support the network, only rather than a point system and money myth, Scuttlebutt offers something far more valuable, conversation. This mostly covers the origin of the protocol but I will definitely conduct more interviews with Dom and others close to the project, which is today one of the most impressive, and well used decentralized applications in existence. It comes from an old amazon paper describing a subsystem of the amazon dynamo database that used a gossip protocol. Gossip protocols are robust because, like human gossip, messages can be passed through third parties ensuring that if a network is disrupted communication can still take place. However as the message is passed from party to party there is the opportunity to manipulate its contents. This is easily countered using cryptography What is secure scuttlebutt? Came from looking at the problem of getting two databases to store the same information. Dom was looking at building something like IPFS he called Cyphernet Cyberspace is the space made by signals, cypherspace is the space made by algorithms Hyperlinks tell you where to go to find a piece of information, a hash is the primary identifier in cypherspace. The hash tells you what the thing is once you have found it but not where to find it. With hyperlinks the server can give you anything. With a hash you always know you have the right thing but another system is required to help you find the thing. Dom found that in private software development there was an incentive to make poor software because that results in more billable hours for the service industry This is because software contains a power structure encoded in it Today we live in an age of digital feudalism From reading the Dynamo paper and learning node.js dominic became recognised as a distributed systems expert. This was the toolkit needed for the data replication he imagined. After presenting at a javascript meetup people responded well He got a job at a company, nearform, to build a distributed database. Through this project the idea for secure scuttlebut emerfged and dom gained the skills he needed to build it Disappointment with blockchain There is so much potential in cypherlinks - hashes and signatures - an opportunity to create a “third web” In the early days of the internet everything worked so well just being free, why would you make everything cost money?
