New York composer and guitarist Rafiq Bhatia is part of the art rock band Son Lux, the experimental trio best-known for scoring the film Everything Everywhere All At Once. His new EP – his first new solo project in 5 years - features pianist and improviser Chris Pattishall and is called Each Dream, A Melting Door. In their electro-acoustic songs, Rafiq alters the audio output from his guitar in real time with effects software, while Chris responds at the keyboard - although sometimes Chris will lead the exploration. ("It's basically a set of works for a piano that sounds like a piano and a guitar that sounds like anything and everything else", -John Schaefer.) The longtime friends and collaborators play some of their filmic, sculpted, and evolving soundscapes, in-studio. Set list: 1. Occlusion 2. Ijen 3. Supplicant

This week brings another Minilog, with the sci fi kung fu multiverse flick, Everything Everywhere All At Once! We discuss the struggles of laundromat proprietress Evelyn Wang as she tries to file her taxes properly but keeps getting distracted by things such as her daughter coming out as a lesbian, her husband seemingly seeking a divorce, and the entire multiverse deciding that she needs to fight the mysterious omnidimensional supervillain Jobu Tupaki. We dig in to the film's sincere exultation at the concept of absurdism as a vessel for familial reconciliation, and also just laugh about silly things like hot dog fingers and worlds where life never happened but we are rocks.
https://notesonfilm1.com/2024/10/21/pofcrit-podcast-2024-fiola-odusote-on-everything-everywhere-all-at-once-daniel-scheinert-daniel-kwan-2022/ The POFCRIT Podcast 2024 returns with Fiola Odusote on EVERYTHING EVERYWHERE ALL AT ONCE (Daniel Scheinert, Daniel Kwan, 2022) . The action-filled dramedy follows a high-strung Chinese woman called Evelyn (Michelle Yeoh) who owns a struggling laundromat. When Evelyn is tasked with saving the multiverse she is quick to answer the call, not knowing the journey she's about to embark on will cause her to reckon with her familial relationships and ultimately repair them. The film tackles the themes of family, immigration, choice and generational trauma, with the multiverse being used as a vehicle to explore these themes through a sci-fi lens. EVERYTHING EVERYWHERE ALL AT ONCE, despite its absurdist elements, is grounded by the mother-daughter story at the heart of the film. The grounded story when mixed with the impeccable performances by the talented cast makes it easy to see why the film racked up so many awards. All this, and much more, is discussed in the podcast below:

In addition to the large-scale, commercial content AGBO has become known for, Russo-Otstot leads in AGBO's mission to champion new, innovative, and underrepresented voices via independent films under the company's Gozie Agbo banner. Among such efforts, she executive produced IFC's Sundance hit "Relic", awarded a National Board of Review “Top 10 Film of 2020.” Prior to her position as CCO, Angela served as AGBO's President of Creative and, before that, as Senior Vice President of Story where she worked under fellow writers Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, developing projects such as "Extraction 1" and "Everything Everywhere All At Once", A24's highest-grossing title of all time and seven-time Oscar winner. She eventually co-wrote and executive produced "Cherry", directed by the Russos and starring Tom Holland, which was acquired by Apple TV+. Russo-Otstot first began her career when she sold a pilot to HBO and then went on to write and produce in television for the next decade on dramatic series that include FX's critically acclaimed “The Shield.” She has taught screenwriting and playwriting at Case Western Reserve University and Cleveland Institute of Art. The MCU is in the "bad" phase right now, according to Jamie Lee Curtis. But someone at the Mouse house must've taken her to the woodshed, because now she's apologized and put out a statement saying it was a "stupid" thing to say. This isn't the first Curtis has dunked on Marvel. She bragged about how "Everything Everywhere All at Once" was a better movie than Doctor Strange 2, and how it was done on a shoestring budget. This was said at SDCC while promoting Borderlands, which looks objectively "bad." ➡️ Tip Jar and Fan Support: http://ClownfishSupport.com ➡️ Official Merch Store: http://ShopClownfish.com ➡️ Official Website: http://ClownfishTV.com ➡️ Audio Edition: https://open.spotify.com/show/6qJc5C6OkQkaZnGCeuVOD1 Jamie Lee Curtis apologizes for her negative comments about Marvel, acknowledges the success of the MCU, and expresses a desire to work with them in the future. 00:00 Jamie Lee Curtis apologizes for trashing Marvel, acknowledges her comments were stupid, and reaches out to Marvel President Kevin Feige. 02:14 Jamie Lee Curtis apologized to Marvel for her negative comments about the MCU, while criticizing the double standard for men and women in the industry. 03:29 Jamie Lee Curtis apologizes for criticizing Marvel and acknowledges cancel culture. 05:13 Jamie Lee Curtis apologizes for trashing Marvel, acknowledges Kevin Feige's challenges, and discusses Robert Downey Jr.'s potential return as Dr. Doom. 06:36 Jamie Lee Curtis apologizes for criticizing Marvel movies, acknowledging the success of Deadpool and Wolverine and expressing admiration for the Russos' movie. 07:57 Jamie Lee Curtis apologizes for criticizing Marvel, speculating on a role in the MCU and wanting to make amends after facing backlash for attending ComicCon without promoting a movie. 09:35 Jamie Lee Curtis apologizes for criticizing Marvel, but clarifies she has nothing against them and would work with them in the future, also expressing that a movie doesn't have to be a Marvel movie to be a spectacle. 11:14 Jamie Lee Curtis apologizes for trashing Marvel. Millions of kids and adults across the world have ADHD, which stands for Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. ADHD doesn't affect everyone in the same way, though. Some people might have trouble focusing, while others might get really fidgety or take risks without thinking about them. But what is ADHD and what is happening in the brain of someone with ADHD?In this episode, Molly and cohost Julianne (who also has ADHD) learn from Dr. Julie Schweitzer of the MIND Institute at UC Davis about how a brain with ADHD can feel a little bit like an orchestra without a conductor. Plus, Julianne talks with Daniel Kwan, director of the movie Everything Everywhere All At Once, about what it's like to live with ADHD, and how people with ADHD have some superpowers when it comes to creativity. This episode was sponsored by:Indeed (Indeed.com/BRAINS) - Claim your $75 sponsored job credit to upgrade your job post.
