A Way with Words — language, linguistics, and callers from all over
Gossip goes by many names: the poop, the scoop, the lowdown, the dope, the scuttlebutt, the 411, the grapes, the gore, and hot tea. Plus, John Donne's love poems are among the greatest in the English language, even as they're famously difficult to unravel. A new biography hails the genius of the man who penned the phrases no man is an island and for whom the bell tolls. And Murphy's Law states that anything that can go wrong, will go wrong. But what about Muphry's Law? Also: how to organize your bookshelves, rizz, potch in tuchis, conkerbell, pronouncing help like hope, spermologer, sweet tea vs. unsweet tea, work brickle, collywobbles, and a puzzle that will test your wits — and patience. JUN. 19, 2026You can conquer your hang-ups."The weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God." 2Co 10:4 NKJVToday's problem is not necessarily tomorrow's problem. Don't incarcerate yourself by assuming it is. Resist self-labeling: "I'm just a worrier.!" "Gossip is my weakness." "My dad was a drinker; I guess I'll carry on the tradition." Stop that! These words create alliances with the devil. They grant him access to your spirit. It's not God's will that you live a defeated, unhappy life.Turn a deaf ear to the old voices and make new choices. "The lines have fallen to me in pleasant places; yes, I have a good inheritance" (Ps 16:6 NKJV). Live out of your inheritance, not your circumstances. God has already promised you victory and provided you with weapons for the fight."Though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh. For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds" (2Co 10:3-4 NKJV). How did Joshua conquer Jericho? By using God's strategy: "Take up the ark of the covenant and let seven priests bear seven trumpets of rams' horns before the ark of the Lord" (Jos 6:6 NKJV). The ark of the covenant was the symbol of God's presence. Joshua placed it in the middle of the procession. Every activity orbited around God. The secret of victory is to keep God center stage in your life, using the weapons of worship, Scripture, and prayer. Employ every tool God offers: Scripture memorization and petition. Turn off the TV and open the Bible more. Worry less and pray more. You can conquer your hang-ups by drawing daily on the presence of God.You can conquer your hang-ups Old voices or new choices?Share This DevotionalSend us Fan MailSupport the showChanging Lives | Building Strong Family | Impacting Our Community For Jesus Christ!
Grace and Alvina have an odds and ends episode where they revisit the topic of gossip and how necessary and powerful it can be. Did you know that couples who gossip together tend to have better relationship satisfaction? Also, gossip is a way to examine society's morals. For the second segment they talk about the song lyrics that have resonated with them over the years. One example for Grace was Fleetwood Mac's "Landslide" and one example for Alvina was Alanis Morissette's "You Learn". Then children's literature specialist Alison Morris joins and the three of them share the best and worse advice they've ever received. Some of the worst advice includes: "You always regret not buying things, but never regret buying things" and "Don't use photo references for your paintings" and some of the best advice includes: "Choose the bigger life," "Make an art of living" and "If it is to be, it is up to me." And then Alison shares some book recommendations, which included NAVIGATING NIGHT by Julie Leung, illustrated by Angie Kang and Matthew Cordell's 102. And they end as always with what they're grateful for. Click here to become a Patreon member: https://www.patreon.com/Bookfriendsforever1. Tyra Banks is taking Netflix to court over her portrayal in the Next Top Model documentary, and the legal documents are absolutely damning. She's claiming that crucial footage was cut to make her look heartless — both in how she responded to Chandi's assault story and when she allegedly ignored Miss Jay after his stroke. The receipts (literally, text messages and proof of contact) are all there, and this could get very messy in court.Meanwhile, Shrek 5 just arrived with some unexpected creative choices that have got the internet talking. The beloved ogre looks different, and the new cast lineup is bringing star power we didn't anticipate. The franchise is betting big on this one. Finally, Brooklyn Beckham's latest commercial move has sparked all sorts of reactions, proving that the nepo baby is never far from the headlines — and sometimes in ways we don't see coming.READY TO TEST YOUR CELEB KNOWLEDGE? I never knew Martin at BMP.He kept a desk there. So I'd occasionally spot his green Bentley in Bishopsbridge Road. There'd be the odd a sighting in the building, a bit like Bigfoot or the Yeti, a glimpse of a blurry Martin moving through corridors, but way in the distance.Perhaps because of this, it didn't occur to me to pick up the phone and ask him to do a podcast about his amazing career. But Charlie Crompton pushed me to do so, offering to broker the deal.(Thanks Charlie.)The timing is odd – BMP, or BMP/Univas/BDDP/ReevesRobertshaw/Davidson Pearce/Needham/DDB/Adam&Eve have just left 12 Bishopsbridge Road. After 55 years. It's difficult to even know where to begin to talk about the impact of Boase Massimi Pollitt.Obviously there's the birth of planning, the work of John Webster, all the agencies and people it gave birth too, but there's so much more.I'm also anxious about listing Martin's achievements as he was so reluctant to take credit for them when we chatted.Or accept a compliment.Or criticise any employee who ever traipsed up their spiral staircase.Gossip? You try getting gossip out of a guy who's been trained to interrogate Russian spies, it's really hard.Despite this, we had a great chat, hope you enjoy it.

Many of us are carrying burdens God never intended us to carry. We carry worry, fear, anxiety, guilt, and more. Prayer is God's invitation to transfer those burdens from our shoulders to His. The Bible says “Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you” (1 Peter 5:7 NLT). Prayer is not informing God of something He doesn't know. Prayer is inviting God into something we can't handle. Notes: Luke 18 As God’s child, you don’t need a badge to reach Him. Hebrews 10:19 (NLT)And so, dear brothers and sisters, we can boldly enter heaven's Most Holy Place because of the blood of Jesus. Prayer is the Christian’s secret weapon. There is a right and a wrong way to pray. Prayer is God’s invitation to transfer those burdens He never intended for us to carry from our shoulders to His. God cares about your problem. 1Peter 5:7 (NKJV)Casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you. Read Luke 18:1–8 We need to be persistent in our prayer.Luke 18:1We all have a choice as to what we will do and to whom we will turn when a crisis hits. We can lose heart or we can pray. We should pray simply because Jesus told us to. We should pray because prayer is God’s appointed way for obtaining things. James 4:2You have not because you ask not. Luke 11:9Ask and it shall be given, seek and you shall find, knock and it will be opened to you. Prayer is the way God helps us to overcome our anxiety and worry. Philippians 4:6 (NLT)Don't worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Philippians 4:7 (NLT)Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus. Jesus said, “Come unto me all who are burdened with life.” Come to Jesus as you are, a sinner, and become His child. Peter Phillips and Harriet Sperling have tied the knot at a modest royal wedding that gained major attention with the arrival of the King and Queen and the Prince and Princess of Wales. But also notably, Princess Beatrice and Eugenie were in public attendance to see Princess Anne's son marry NHS nurse Harriet at the private ceremony. In this episode of Talking Royals, Charlene, Chris and Lizzie discuss the family dynamics of their appearance, a day after news broke that the former Prince Andrew had been earning money by subletting properties of his former home in Windsor. The team reveal the behind-the-scenes gossip from the big day, as well as what they saw inside the church after the ceremony. The group also catch up on William's appearance at London Tech Week - where he fronted a new data-driven method to combat homelessness - and wonder whether England and Scotland's success at the FIFA World Cup could actually prove problematic for the football-mad Patron of the FA.

What do you do if a friend tells you something deeply personal? Maybe they're getting divorced, or they're pregnant but haven't publicly announced it.This week, I'm sharing a friendship boundary that Michael and I have held for years, including the kinds of things we don't share with each other, why some of our friends are shocked to learn we've kept their secrets for months (or years), and the role trust plays in building strong friendships, communities, and marriages.I know this is a hot take. But I think there's a difference between hiding something from your partner and holding something for your friend. This episode is sponsored by Slowly, a digital penpal app used by over 10 million people worldwide! Jack is joined by club insider Paul O'Keefe for a massive Thursday Q&A, kicking things off by looking ahead to the 2026 World Cup and asking if tournament fever has finally managed to wash away the exhaustion of the domestic campaign. With the dust settling on Tottenham Hotspur miraculously staying up, Paul shares his honest reflections on surviving the drop and what the mood is really like behind the scenes. We then dive into a huge selection of your listener questions, starting with the latest updates on the sporting director search and whether Dougie Freedman is heading to N17. We debate if any top-tier Director of Football will actually want to join the club given the amount of power Roberto De Zerbi has amassed after keeping us up, and question if the hierarchy are genuinely humbled by this disastrous season or if their recent apologies are just a PR-driven play. The conversation then turns to the transfer market, examining which big-money midfielder we should be putting our money on, getting the latest gossip on our striker targets, and looking at the massive list of players the club is desperately trying to shift ahead of a crucial summer clearout. We expected Vegas stories and Magic Mike secrets. We didn't expect a coffee cup to uncover a decade-old wound and leave the entire room in tears. On this Part 2 episode of Undressed with Pol' & Patrik, we sit down with Las Vegas power couple Mark Romain of Magic Mike Live and Brett Hamby of KA by Cirque du Soleil. Together, the Amazing Race fan-favorites also perform weekly in Temptation Sundays at MGM Resorts, making them one of the most recognizable couples on the Las Vegas entertainment scene. What begins as a lively conversation about Vegas entertainment, Lisa Vanderpump, celebrity residencies, Magic Mike, Cirque du Soleil, reality television, fashion, and LGBTQ+ representation quickly evolves into one of the most emotional Armenian coffee readings we've ever experienced. Along the way, we discuss our recent viral road rage attack, life as a public LGBTQ+ couple, Hollywood's changing landscape, and why authentic representation remains more important than ever. The episode takes an unexpected turn when Brett's Armenian coffee reading uncovers a powerful connection to his late mother, Christine. What follows is a raw, heartfelt, and deeply moving conversation about grief, guilt, healing, and the love we continue to carry for those we've lost. As Pol reveals messages hidden within the coffee grounds, Brett opens up about his mother's passing, creating a moment so emotional that there wasn't a dry eye in the room. Through laughter, tears, and incredible honesty, Mark stands beside Brett with the unwavering support that has made them one of the most beloved couples audiences have come to know and admire. By the end of the episode, everyone leaves feeling lighter, affirmed, and reminded that the people we love never truly leave us. It's a beautiful journey through Vegas glamour, celebrity stories, marriage, resilience, LGBTQ+ visibility, and one extraordinary coffee reading that proves the universe has a way of revealing exactly what we need to hear when we're finally ready to listen. In this episode I talk about how much your life changes when you choose to stop judging and speaking negatively. Cleaning up your vibration is sometimes a lonely and alienating road, but nature loves a vacuum and whatever gets lost in the process always gets filled with something more rewarding - and you love and trust yourself more, which is the greatest reward of all. Episode Description In this episode of the Lead Ministry Podcast, Josh Denhart sits down with Vance Martin from Slingshot Group to unpack nine principles for leading up to your senior leader. They walk through the often-invisible work of building trust, bringing solutions, anticipating needs, and avoiding the trap of forming alliances against the very person God has placed above you. If you've ever felt like your boss doesn't see you, doesn't get you, or doesn't appreciate what you bring to the table, this episode will reframe how you show up for them — and how they will eventually show up for you. No Surprises – Why blindsiding your leader breaks trustBring Solutions, Not Problems – How to lift weight, not add itDon't Try to Fix Your Leader – Pray, don't correctForm Loyalty, Not Alliances – Why “venting” with teammates is gossipAnticipate Their Needs – Knowing rhythms, deadlines, and pressure points “Gossip isn't processing. If you're venting about your leader with teammates, you're tearing the team apart.” Proverbs 25:13 – Faithful messengers refresh their leadersMatthew 7:3-5 – The plank in your own eyeRomans 13:1 – Submission to authorityHebrews 13:17 – Honoring those who lead you Leading up isn't about getting your way. It's about building trust, honoring alignment, and being a follower worth following. The invisible, faithful, intentional work you do behind the scenes is what creates the visible fruit everyone sees. We hope this episode encourages and equips you.
