Today’s ID the Future provides another peek at A Mousetrap for Darwin: Michael J. Behe Answers His Critics. Here Behe and host Eric Anderson discuss the new book’s section on malaria evolution. Evolutionists say malaria’s ability to evolve resistance to the antimalarial drug chloroquine is powerful evidence of unguided microbe-to-man evolution. Behe discusses how this evolutionary innovation required two coordinated mutations and lies at the outside edge of what blind evolution can manage. But many innovations in the history of life require three or more coordinated mutations, which Behe argues is so improbable as to lie beyond the reach of blind evolution. If so, this would discredit evolutionary theory. Drawing from his new book, Behe discusses various attempts to discredit Read More › Source
Dr. Michael Behe, molecular biologist at Lehigh University, author of Darwin's Black Box and Darwin Devolves, returns to The Pat Flynn Show to discuss his most recent book A Mousetrap for Darwin: Michael J. Behe Answers His Critiques. The purpose of this conversation is to explore how well Behe's critiques of Darwin's evolutionary mechanism have held up in light of contemporary research, while contemplating the dangers of social-political pressures impeding scientific inquiry. ... Many people -- including many religious people -- are quick to dismiss the position of intelligent design as nothing more than attempts to smuggle a pseudo-scientific creationism into the public school system. But is this characterization merited? What precisely is Intelligent Design, and, more specifically, what aspects of modern evolutionary theory does Intelligent Design attempt to challenge? Furthermore, what (if any) evidence is there to support these critiques, and what counter arguments have been made against them? Attempting to sift through all the ideological and philosophical fog, Pat is joined by John DeRosa of the Classical Theism podcast to cross-examine Dr. Michael Behe, molecular biologist, and author of Darwin's Black Box, The Edge of Evolution, and Darwin Devolves. Made famous (perhaps, infamous?) for his proposal of "irreducible complexity" Pat and John press Dr. Behe with a series of objections -- some philosophic, others scientific -- to see how well his claims withstand scrutiny from experts who have seriously engaged the subject. Mentioned Resources You can read Dr. Behe's work and responses to critics at DarwinDevolves.com Dr. Behe also gave a recent talk entitled "An empirical argument for Intelligent Design" at the conference of Science and Faith. He also had an exchange at Texas A&M with one of his critics, Dr. Joshua Swamidass. About Dr. Michael Behe Michael J. Behe is Professor of Biological Sciences at Lehigh University in Pennsylvania and a Senior Fellow at Discovery Institute's Center for Science and Culture. He received his Ph.D. in Biochemistry from the University of Pennsylvania in 1978. Behe's current research involves delineation of design and natural selection in protein structures. In his career he has authored over 40 technical papers and two books, Darwin's Black Box: The Biochemical Challenge to Evolution and The Edge of Evolution: The Search for the Limits of Darwinism, which argue that living system at the molecular level are best explained as being the result of deliberate intelligent design. The books have been reviewed by the New York Times, Nature, Philosophy of Science, Christianity Today, and many other periodicals. Darwin's Black Box has sold over 250,000 copies and was internationally reviewed in over one hundred publications. Both National Review and World magazine named it as one of the 100 most important books of the 20th century. Behe has presented and debated his work at major universities throughout North America and England. Pat is joined by Dr. Michael Behe to discuss the work he's done as a molecular biologist with respect to the theory of evolution and intelligent design. Dr. Behe contends the more we discover about the molecular level of life, the more challenges are brought against the modern Darwinian theory of evolution. Do his claims hold up? You'll just have to listen to the interview and decide for yourself! ... The Mind Renewed : Thinking Christianly in a New World Order
This week, we are joined by Dr. Michael J. Behe, professor of biochemistry at Lehigh University in Pennsylvania, for an in-depth (and sometimes slightly technical) interview on the theory of Intelligent Design (ID). Author of two iconic books on ID - Darwin's Black Box, and The Edge of Evolution - Dr. Behe explains how his research into the complexity of biological systems at the molecular level led him to question the adequacy of the Darwinian paradigm, and why he now believes that the data point towards Intelligent Design. We also discuss empirical research indicating the limits of Darwinian processes, the logical status of ID theory, and Dr. Behe responds to objections to ID raised at the famous Kitzmiller vs. Dover court case of 2005. Michael J. Behe, a central figure in the Intelligent Design movement, is professor of biochemistry at Lehigh University in Pennsylvania and a senior fellow of the Discovery Institute's Center for Science and Culture. He is the author of Darwin's Black Box: The Biochemical Challenge to Evolution and most recently The Edge of Evolution: Searching for the Limits of Darwinism. In this conversation with D.J. Grothe, Behe discusses his prominent role in the ID movement, and how he first got involved. He explores the differences between creationism and Intelligent Design theory, and details some of his experiences as a key witness for the defense in the Dover, Pennsylvania Intelligent Design trial. He also explains the thesis of his new book, and talks about what he considers the biases of mainstream science.
