How many distinctly human traits will we prune away before we realize that we have gone too far, that there is too little remaining of humanity to be resurrected? From the Industrial Revolution(s) to that of AI, now we've got apps that threaten to keep your loved ones “alive” forever, with none of the valuable complexity that ancient grieving traditions offer. Should I Get Genetic Testing? Geneticist Explains Why Your Genes Aren't Your Fate

Should you get genetic testing? Evolutionary geneticist Dr. Melissa Ilardo says: probably not. What you believe about your genes affects your health outcomes more than what your genes actually say. That's not philosophy—that's what the research shows. On this episode of Medical Disruptors, I sit down with Dr. Ilardo to discuss why genetic determinism is a trap and why your genes aren't writing your health story the way you've been told. We discuss why knowing your genetic risks might actually harm you through the nocebo effect, and how to distinguish between genetic mutations you must know like BRCA versus ones you shouldn't check. We explore what epigenetics actually means for your daily health decisions and why family history of diabetes, heart disease, or Alzheimer's is not your fate. The conversation reveals how lifestyle changes gene expression faster than you think, and why meditation and environment reshape your biology in measurable ways. Your genes load the gun, but your environment decides whether it fires. And you have far more control over that trigger than genetic testing suggests. Looking to schedule a consultation with Dr. E? Zoe Booth speaks with Robert King, a psychology lecturer and researcher at University College Cork, whose work explores human sexual behaviour through the lens of evolutionary psychology and behavioural ecology. Their conversation centres on the evolution of female orgasm—its potential adaptive significance, its neglect within scientific literature, and the cultural forces that continue to shape women's sexual experiences. King discusses the use of animal models in studying human sexuality, the neurobiological mechanisms behind pleasure, and why evolutionary frameworks are still resisted in mainstream discourse. The discussion ranges widely, touching on female–female competition, the contested status of female ejaculation in both science and society, and the moral panic that often greets biological explanations for sex differences. Throughout, King makes the case for a more honest, curiosity-driven approach to understanding female behaviour—one that neither denies biology nor reduces it to determinism. Thanks for listening to "Encounter God's Truth"—where we teach every week that God's Word is true from the beginning to the end. Today Dr. John Whitcomb continues his series on "Biblical Apologetics" by concluding our consideration of "Evolutionary Difficulties." We are going to look at some of the Scriptural imperatives that we must practice in order to be effective in sharing our faith with the unbelieving world—also considering the powerful impact that our own lives have upon the effectiveness of our witness for the gospel. Guided by Wayne Shepherd, we travel together to Appalachian Bible College in Mount Hope, W.Va., which has graciously allowed Whitcomb Ministries to distribute these messages to a wider audience by way of radio. We are glad that you have joined us for this program, and hope that the broadcast will challenge you to share the gospel with others now—while there is still time.

We go deeper into "Biblical Apologetics" today on "Encounter God's Truth" with Dr. John Whitcomb. This is Part One of a message on "Evolutionary Difficulties." In it we tackle challenging questions like these: Since evolution is not true, why is it so difficult to convince unbelievers regarding the Bible's account of creation? And why do so many Christians even seem unwilling to agree on the Biblical position? Also, how are we as Christians to go about seeking to bring ardent unbelievers to the Lord? Or to strengthen struggling believers? Whitcomb Ministries expresses appreciation to Appalachian Bible College in Mount Hope, West Virginia, for allowing us to bring you this conference audio. Wayne Shepherd, our host, sets the context for this important and timely lesson that is intended to help us effectively communicate that God's Word is true from the beginning to the end. We encourage you to share this broadcast with others.

Most of us come to meditation because we want something—peace, clarity, or even awakening itself. While natural, this approach can carry a subtle trap: meditation becomes another project of the separate self, another way of trying to get something for “me.”But true awakening isn't about fixing or improving the self. It's about loosening our identification with the self altogether. In this episode, Craig invites us into a guided meditation that explores what it means to let go of wanting in our practice. Instead of sitting with subtle agendas, hoping to feel a certain way or reach a particular state, we're invited to meet this moment just as it is.The episode includes a full guided meditation, so we recommend listening at a time when you won't be interrupted. If the podcast has been meaningful to you, please consider leaving a rating or review, and click “Follow” or “Subscribe” in your app—it helps us share this work with more people. To access the full transcript of this episode and discover more resources, visit the episode page on MeditationChangesEverything.com. Episode 321 Humans live a lot longer than other primates - and much of that is down to our immune system. But there's a price we pay for the capacity to fight off infections: inflammation. Chronic inflammation is to blame for a range of health issues, especially those related to older age. And now research has revealed exactly why inflammation is good for longevity but bad for health. Find out how proteins called death-fold domains often malfunction - and what this could mean for the future of drug development. Bigger than the Eiffel Tower and closer than the moon - the asteroid Apophis will skim past Earth in 2029 and will be visible to the naked eye. Don't worry, astronomers assure us it will NOT hit us. But it could be a good testbed for NASA's asteroid deflection technology, helping us to prepare for more dangerous space rocks in the future. With two major space agencies due to visit Apophis - what will we find? If you thought there was nothing new to learn about the extinction of the dinosaurs, think again. Something we hadn't yet considered was the impact dinosaurs had on the ecosystem. Given they were so massive, dinosaurs made wide-ranging changes to the planet's landscapes, such as shifting rivers. So when they were wiped out, there were huge knock-on effects, which researchers have now been examining.  Chapters: (00:00) Intro (00:41) The evolutionary price we pay for longer lives (13:47) The asteroid coming very close to Earth (26:42) How dinosaurs shaped their ecosystem Hosted by Rowan Hooper and Penny Sarchet, with guests Alison George, Alex Wilkins, Sam Wong and Richard Binzel. In this episode of the Epigenetics Podcast, we talked with Emily Wong from the University of New South Wales in Sydney about her work on how evolution shapes mammalian genes. As the head of the Regulatory Systems Lab at the Victor Chang Cardiac Research Institute and an associate professor at UNSW, Emily's research centers on gene control and enhancers. We delve into her pivotal 2017 publication in Nature Communications, where she investigated transcription factor binding in liver-specific contexts, shedding light on the regulatory mechanisms at play in mammals. Emily elaborates on her postdoctoral work at the European Bioinformatics Institute and the innovative hybrid systems she used to dissect genetic variation effects, which allowed her to differentiate between cis-regulatory and trans-regulatory influences. By employing techniques like ChIP-seq, she was able to illustrate the combinatorial effects of transcription factors on gene expression, paving the way for her collaborative efforts across disciplines and organisms. We also examine Emily's findings regarding enhancer function through comparative studies between zebrafish and marine sponges. Using historical data on conserved genetic sequences, she and her team identified enhancer regions that displayed activity in specific vertebrate cell types, despite their evolutionary divergence from sponges. This unexpected result suggests deeper insights into how enhancers can be co-opted for new functions as species evolve. Furthermore, we dive into Emily's latest ventures involving advanced methodologies such as chromatin accessibility profiling with ATAC-seq and how these insights can elucidate the genomic landscape of metazoan embryogenesis. She highlights significant correlations between enhancer turnover and DNA replication timing, suggesting evolutionary implications that should be taken into account in future genomic studies.   References Wong, E. How can we all become better at pattern recognition? Florida Surgeon General Joe Ladapo is moving away from vaccine mandates for all citizens, while the governors of the three West coast states are conflating “science” with “ideology” while pining for a Covid-era-style CDC. Today we discuss childhood, fitness, and self-defense; the through-line is freedom. First up: Illinois has become the first state in the Union to mandate mental health screening for children in grades 3 – 12, so that conditions from trauma to anxiety can be detected early. How mandatory will these screenings be? How confidential? What is anxiety, and why are children better off learning to experience and solve their own anxiety, than to be coddled at every turn? We argue that anxiety—like pain, and sadness—are signals from your brain and body that should be listened to rather than erased. Also: childhood is a time of exploration, of mixing reality with fantasy, and should not be a time when adults' fantasies are imposed on children. Then: the New York Times cannot abide that anything that RFK Jr. does or says makes sense. Finally: do people have the right to defend themselves inside their own homes? Today, host Casey Luskin speaks with Krueger about his work and what cancer can teach us about the limits of Darwinian processes. In his tenure at the National Cancer Institute, Krueger had a front-row seat to cancer research progress. After reviewing countless research projects and mountains of data, Krueger learned that cancer doesn't create new features at the molecular leveI, it degrades them. And breakage of aboriginal design is a hallmark of Darwinian processes. Krueger explains in this illuminating discussion. Source

Today we discuss the reasons not to stay in your lane, wildlife in the Pacific Northwest, and whether Americans want a handout, or to be left alone. First: Bret responds to critique from Geert Vanden Bossche on his characterization of intramuscular vaccines and their capacity to produce mucosal immunity. Then: how science discovers reality, the risks of reductionism, and a hypothesis that generalists are more immune to corruption than specialists. Then: bald eagles and foxes compete to scavenge seal meat on the shores of the Salish Sea. Meanwhile in Canada, people are told they can't go into the woods. Finally: young, and urban, Americans are more likely than older, or rural Americans, to want a handout from the federal government.*****Our sponsors:Fresh Pressed Olive Oil Club: Scrumptious & freshly harvested. Today we discuss the cancellation of mRNA vaccine contracts by Secretary Kennedy. What are the risks, are they as limited as he suggests, and what can we look forward to from this technology in the future? Conversation includes Covid and the Covid shots, repurposed drugs, and the nature of science and knowledge. What does it mean for a claim to be credible—socially, or analytically? What does MAHA stand for, are their limits to hypernovelty, and how can we return to a more ancestral environment?*****Our sponsors:Fresh Pressed Olive Oil Club: Scrumptious & freshly harvested.
