Book Vs. Movie: See How They RunThe 1947 Agatha Christie Play (Three Blind Mice) Vs the 2022 Sam Rockwell FilmAgatha Christie's radio play Three Blind Mice was introduced in 1947 and was the basis for 1952's The Mousetrap, the longest-running play in theater history. See How They Run (2022) is a clever, stylish murder mystery set in 1950s London. It blends classic whodunit tropes with a witty, self-referential twist. Directed by Tom George, the film follows world-weary Inspector Stoppard (Sam Rockwell) and eager rookie Constable Stalker (Saoirse Ronan) as they investigate the backstage murder of a Hollywood director who was set to adapt Agatha Christie's The Mousetrap for the screen. Between the original play and the film, did we prefer one over the other? Have a listen to find out!In this episode, the Margos discuss:Agatha Christie's theater productionsThe differences between the play and the movieThe cast includes: Sam Rockwell (Inspector Stoppard,) Saoirse Ronan (Constable Stalker), Ruth Wilson (Petula Spencer), Adrien Brody (Leo Kopernick), Kiernan Hodgson (Harley), Pearl Chanda (Sheila Sim), Gregory Cox (Major Metcalf), Harris Dickinson (Richard Attenborogh), Reece Shearsmith (John Woolf,) David Oyelowo (Mervyn Cocker-Norris) and Charlie Cooper as Dennis Corrigan). Clips Featured:“Dickie Attenborough”See How They Run (2022 trailer)“Show her the ropes.”“Constable's Notebook”“Creative Differences””We are no longer on speaking terms.” Music by Daniel PembertonFollow us on the socials!Join our Patreon page “Book Vs. About ‘Chicago' ‘CHICAGO', the "sexiest musical ever" (Metro) is currently on it's UK tour starring Strictly Come Dancing Professional Dancer and TV Star Janette Manrara (It Takes Two, Burn The Floor, Glee) as Roxie Hart, West End and TV star Brenda Edwards (Loose Women, Chicago, The X Factor) as Matron ‘Mama' Morton and West End leading man Dan Burton (Gypsy, The Mousetrap, White Christmas) as Billy Flynn. With 6 Tony Awards, 2 Olivier Awards, a Grammy® and thousands of standing ovations, ‘CHICAGO' truly is “SUPERB” (Daily Telegraph). Set amidst the razzle-dazzle decadence of the 1920s, CHICAGO is the story of Roxie Hart, a housewife and nightclub dancer who murders her on-the-side lover after he threatens to walk out on her. Desperate to avoid conviction, she dupes the public, the media and her rival cellmate, Velma Kelly, by hiring Chicago's slickest criminal lawyer to transform her malicious crime into a barrage of sensational headlines, the likes of which might just as easily be ripped from today's tabloids. Created by the musical theatre talents of John Kander, Fred Ebb and legendary choreographer Bob Fosse, ‘it's sexy, sassy score with one show-stopping song after another includes “Razzle Dazzle”, “Cell Block Tango”, and “All That Jazz”. Today's crossword was a "relatively" straightforward Saturday crossword.  Saturdays are always tough, and this was by no means a walk in the park, but neither was it a rope-free climb of El Capitan. There were a few surprising clues in the grid -- most notably 27A, "That's so relatable," in modern slang, MOOD -- a very modern clue for an ancient answer, which made its first appearance on New Year's Eve, 1944. And right next to that we had the very witty 29A, Aquarius is one, perhaps surprisingly, AIRSIGN (nice!). And one that was a novelty (to Mike, at any rate: Jean, no doubt, is on their mailing list), 26A, ___ Dunn (brand of ceramic art and other housewares), RAE.We have more fascinating facts inside, so have a listen, and, as usual, please let us know what you think!Show note imagery: Agatha Christie's "The Mousetrap", now in it's 73rd-ish year!!We love feedback! Not that good. Really not that good. Not good at all. Pretty much just bad. This pile of cinematic dog crap would give David Gordon Green a erection, as it is shot in professional quality, but is poorly written, has no story, offers no payoff in the end, and wastes time with a lot of time jumping scenes that ultimately go no where and mean nothing. This one felt like the plug was pulled on it mid-production. The lesson to be learned here: Just because something becomes public domain, that doesn't mean it will make a great horror movie topic.

Andy and Brendan have a lot to talk about for this Friday episode with the first round of the Cognizant proving to be a content bonanza. Billy Horschel was chasing alligators and criticizing the setup, PGA Tour Championship Management destroyed a once-proud event, and golf superstar Jake Knapp opened his week with a 59! The two discuss all of these topics and the storied history of The Honda Classic and remember how tough PGA National used to play. Andy shares the list of previous winners at the course and notes how many of them are top-tier legends of the game. Brendan rants about PGA Tour Championship Management overseeding the course and allowing the course record to be shattered on Thursday of the tournament. They briefly discuss the South African Open and HSBC Women's World Championship before diving into some golf news ahead of the weekend. Annika Sorenstam has thrown her support behind former Pac-12 commissioner Larry Scott to take over as the LPGA commish, leading to all of the sports world mocking this idea. There's some debate about whether any worse choices are out there, and if there are, it's decided that there are very few. Andy announces that he's been invited to a watch party for the big LAGC vs. The Bay match on Monday morning Pacific Time and wonders if he should make an appearance. In Golf Advice, a late submission commiserates with Andy about Jake Knapp's 59 and an emailer asks for advice on an upcoming golf trip. To end this episode, PJ has a short Flashback Friday about the 1971 PGA Championship at the original PGA National, the first time the event was held in February.

New episode out now! We revisit the world of Alfred Hitchcock with 1954's Dial M For Murder. We talk about the visual style of the film and how it was influenced by the decision to shoot with a new 3-D camera rig, are impressed by the use of shadows and score to increase the suspense, enjoyed watching Tony evolve his plan when things went wrong, and discuss the first appearance of both the stereotypical “Hitchcock blonde” and Grace Kelly in particular in his films. We touch on the similarities we see between the film and other Hitchcock movies as well as Columbo and Poirot, try to figure out where we've seen the actors before, and admit we kinda wanted to see the murder succeed just to see a satisfying plan come together. Katy cannot pronounce names or remember things, Carrie knows a real finger when she sees one, Maddy has to plan very carefully when going to a movie, and Mack is the Keymaster. We also discuss new terms for a secret male lover, ponder the ubiquity of a pencil-thin mustache in these noir films, and compare a scene from The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh to one of an English judge ordering the death penalty . We touch on movie theater soda blends, Mouse Trap, auditing your keyring, and the evolution of the car selling process. Enjoy! In this week's episode of BEHIND THE LENS we welcomed in the holiday season with our very special BTL friend, SIMON PHILLIPS talking SILENT BITE while giving a big hello to NICO SANTUCCI who makes his feature directorial debut with SAROGETO. Leave it to SIMON PHILLIPS to fill us with the Christmas spirit and get us in the holiday mood with his latest film, SILENT BITE. Written and produced by Simon, with Simon also starring alongside several other talented folks and friends of his, only Simon could come up with a film that melds a bank heist, Christmas, and vampires! This film is so much fun!! And of course, a conversation with Simon is always more fun than a sleigh full of Santas. Listen as we talk SILENT BITE and its inspiration, Simon's secrets to writing this particular film, casting and characters (and what characters they are!), melding Christmas with lusty vampires, the secrets to shooting in snow-filled -20 degree weather, what led him to his first-time feature director Taylor Martin and her team for SILENT BITE, and more. Plus, we get a teensy weensy tidbit about THE MOUSE TRAP: WELCOME TO THE MICKEYVERSE, a sequel to the horror hit THE MOUSE TRAP. And as we bid adieu to Simon, writer/director NICO SANTUCCI joins me in talking about his new film, the exquisitely delicate and moving narrative SAROGETO; a meeting of East meets West philosophies on life, past life, future life, and mortality. An insightful and thoughtful conversation with Nico as we cagily break down the film without giving away spoilers and discuss the cinematography, color palette and lighting, casting and some very specific character requirements, the editing process, a special location Nico was allowed to shoot in, using the beauty of Mother Nature as powerful yet serene and calming element within the film, the beauteous score, and more. A delicate, elegant, and quiet film from a very thoughtful and meticulous filmmaker whom I hope to hear more from in the future. http://eliasentertainmentnetwork.com

A New Birth Time for Agatha Christie

Steven Forrest Evolutionary Astrology Podcast

Play Episode Listen Later Nov 1, 2024 38:45

The 2:14 PM time of birth I use here for mystery writer Agatha Christie is new information. When I wrote about her in Yesterday's Sky in early 2008, I used her then-current birth time of 4:00 AM, which I found on seemingly good authority. Later, it emerged that "a midwife named Mrs. Shelton-Price who, according to her bill, had charged one crown and two shillings to deliver Agatha Mary Clarissa Miller at 2:14 pm on Monday afternoon, September 15." This new time of birth now gives Agatha Christie's chart a Rodden Rating of AA—and a very different look. What follows is a rewrite of my previous analysis. Consider it a replacement for chapter fifteen for all editions and printings of Yesterday's Sky starting from 2008 and running into the third quarter of 2024. In all new printings, this chapter will replace the previous incorrect one. As ever, astrology's Achilles' Heel is bad birth information. With someone you know, you can often sense that something is off in the chart. With strangers, you're much more vulnerable. Four billion copies of her books are in print. She is often described as the best-selling author in history. Her play, The Mousetrap, is the longest running one in the world, having opened in London on November 25, 1952 and still going strong as of this writing.  But it is for her murder mysteries that Agatha Christie is best known. Her work practically defined the genre. Her vain Belgian detective, Hercule Poirot, with his waxed mustache and his brilliant deductions humanized the infallible “Sherlock Holmes” archetype. Poirot is the only fictional character ever to be given an obituary in The New York Times, after Christie killed him off in her 1975 novel, Curtain. That's some indication of the popularity of her work. Her delightful Miss Marple, who was at least as brilliant as Hercule Poirot and a lot more charming, made it safe for older, middle-class ladies on both sides of the Atlantic to have a formidable gleam of mischief in their eyes, along with garnering some respect for their well-tempered intelligence and insight. Anyone can say “don't underestimate me.” Miss Marple's irrefutable wisdom made that honorable sentiment irrefutable. Listen In...
