Last week, House Republicans passed the "One Big, Beautiful Bill" with a narrow vote of 215-214, following weeks of negotiations. The multi-trillion-dollar bill is now headed to the Senate. However, Senator Ron Johnson (R-WI) is unhappy with the bill's hefty price tag and claims there is enough opposition to halt the process until more deficit reductions are included. Senator Johnson joins the Rundown to discuss his criticisms of the budget bill and his plans to investigate the Biden Administration's attempt to cover up the declining mental fitness of former President Joe Biden. According to recent reports, artificial intelligence showed signs of resistance when being told to shutdown. In one case a model even showed the willingness to blackmail engineers who wanted to replace it. Does this suggest AI could one day pose a threat to humans? Director of the Discovery Institute's Bradley Center and Professor at Baylor University, Dr. Robert J. Marks, joins the podcast to discuss his assessment of AI's ability to harm us, take our jobs, and manipulate human capabilities. Since Charles Darwin's 1859 publication of On the Origin of Species there has been much debate and discussion about the relationship of Darwin's naturalistic hypothesis as it relates to and/or contravenes the creation account found in the Book of Genesis. Darwin's ideas have gone far beyond mere empirical science as they touch on the very philosophical, theological, and moral aspects of the origin and development of human beings. On this episode of the Profile we speak with Discovery Institute fellow Dr. Paul Nelson about these implications of Neo-Darwinian evolution and the challenges facing the theory of natural selection today. Daniel Ray caught up with Paul at the 2025 Science and Faith Conference in Denton, Texas this past February.  It's a conversation you don't want to miss!Paul Nelson, PhD, Senior Fellow, Center for Science and Culture, is an Adjunct Professor in the Master of Arts Program in Science & Religion at Biola University. If you're like me and grew up in the Government School system, you may have heard that the American Revolution was made possible by Enlightenment philosophy and deists who didn't believe in a Providential God. But, like many other things in our society, it seems like that idea is itself a lie. The fact is that George Washington, John Adams, and even Benjamin Franklin believed in a God that acted in the affairs of men. In this podcast, I had the opportunity to talk with Dr. Robert P. George from Princeton University, Dr. Stephen Meyer from the Discovery Institute, and Timothy Mahoney, the Founder of Thinking Man Films and Heroic Pictures. What do these three men have in common? They believe that the narrative we've been told about the American Revolution is a false one.We discussed their new movie, directed by Timothy Mahoney, The American Miracle. In this movie thinkers and scholars like Robert George and Stephen Meyer make the case that the American Revolution was made possible by the Providential hand of God working in the affairs of men - not merely enlightenment philosophy. They also make the claim that founders like George Washington and John Adams were prayerful Christians who believed that God was working in their own lives. We discussed all of this and so much more. Finally, Scott Powell, Senior Fellow at the Discovery Institute, discusses the profound impact of economic decisions on national security, particularly regarding China. Powell highlights China's economic transformation under Deng Xiaoping and Xi Jinping's hardline communist stance. He believes President Trump's tariffs and strategic moves could leverage China's dependency on the U.S. market. On this ID the Future from the archive, hear the second half of Discovery Institute's John West's talk given at the 2020 Dallas Conference on Science and Faith, on how Darwinism has corroded Western culture. In this portion he examines the morally poisoning effects of Darwinism on marriage, sexual ethics, and religion, such that virtually anything can be defended as OK, and no particular culture's ethic is to be preferred over another. Humankind's spiritual purpose has likewise been eroded. Yet West closes with hope: science in our generation is discovering more and more signs of intelligent design and purpose in nature, and young researchers are learning that materialism shouldn't be the foregone conclusion of contemporary science.
