Toys For Games 'Cast - Collecting, playing with, and discussing toys-to-life

It may be a relatively slow news week, but that doesn’t stop us from recording Episode 86! Before toys-to-life discussions, however, we talk about some television show recommendations for everyone to enjoy while we all patiently wait for the games we look most forward to playing. Jumping into the news, we talk about a potential upcoming guest for Disney Infinity fans, a potential restock of the Palutena amiibo, new showcases of Battle Arenas in LEGO Dimensions, and Skylanders Imaginators trophies. Oh, and we also talk about a little quote made in regards to the decision to lock battle classes to Creation Crystals - “A sea of options.” The #CommunityQuestion asked about “cash grabs”, and we picked another winner for the Response of the Week. The Inquire This! segment was meant to be tricky, but the most recent Patreon Hangout proved to help the expert. And finally, we had plenty of great emails from the community. All this and more on Episode 85 of the Toys For Games ‘Cast! Executive Producers: Jorge Torres! Toys For Games 'Cast - Collecting, playing with, and discussing toys-to-life

With all due respect to the fastest man on Earth, Usain Bolt, it was off to races for news from the toys-to-life franchises over in Gamescom. With the impending release of Year 2 for LEGO Dimensions, Skylanders Imaginators, and eventual new waves of amiibo, it’s no wonder that news is starting to come in hot and heavy about all of our favorite franchises.   Before we get started, however, we had to talk all about Hamilton, and how everyone should at least give it a listen. After that, we checked in on Pokemon GO, despite the #PidgeyGate debacle. Eventually getting into the news, we saluted the farewell episode of Disney Infinity TV, which took place on the anniversary of the release of Disney Infinity 1.0. Then we talked about some curious amiibo + 3DS game bundles, and speculated what the inclusion of the amiibo reader might be about. We broke down the controversy surrounding the exclusive release of Supergirl in LEGO Dimensions. And finally, we did our best to cover the news overload about Skylanders Imaginators that came from Gamescom.   The #CommunityQuestion covered funny catchphrases, and we picked another winner for the Response of the Week. The Inquire This! segment was a solid B, even for the hot dog expert.  And finally, we had plenty of great emails from the community. All this and more on Episode 85 of the Toys For Games ‘Cast! Toys For Games 'Cast - Collecting, playing with, and discussing toys-to-life

It’s been a long time, we shouldn’t have left you … without a strong rhyme to step to. Or a podcast to listen to, that is. That’s right, due to major technical difficulties, everyone’s favorite toys-to-life podcast had to step away from the mics for longer than expected, and much longer than we wanted. But don’t worry, because we came back for Episode 84 with a vengeance! Aside from the normal news beats we hit every week, we also talked about a resolved internet issue, upcoming plans, and yes, even the saddest news to come from this podcast!   Starting off, we have our now weekly Pokemon GO update, because everyone wants to know these things. Then we discuss the firesales of Disney Infinity that all mysteriously vanished at once this week. Then we talked about the new Z-Ring which isn’t amiibo, but it’s relevant at least. We explain how more folks internationally will be able to get their hands on the Green Arrow figure from LEGO Dimensions this fall. And finally, from Skylanders Imaginators … WE GOT KAOS, LIKE, FOR REALZ.   The #CommunityQuestion was discussed video game villains, and we picked another winner for the Response of the Week … or two. The Inquire This! segment determined whether or not third time’s a charm for one listener trying to stump the expert. And finally, we had plenty of great emails from the community. Toys For Games 'Cast - Collecting, playing with, and discussing toys-to-life

It’s the dog days of summer, but the heat can’t slow us down on a Friday night full of madness and hilarity. We chat about discontinued fast food items, Santa being booed off the field, overpriced Olympic t-shirts, and an unforgettable and incredibly awkward Periscope from one of the members in our community! Don’t worry, toys fans, we eventually get down to brass tacks and talk about your favorite franchises as well.   Starting off, we have our now weekly Pokemon GO update, before jumping in to talk about the recently released amiibo display stands. Then we glide over to Skylanders to break down the nine new figures unofficially announced and some hilarious rumors from Sweden. We break down the Disney Infinity online server shutdown timeline, which is as big of a mess as you would expect it to be. Finally, we talk all about the news that came from San Diego Comic Con regarding LEGO Dimensions, including Sonic and Wave 7.   The #CommunityQuestion was a tad more emotional than anticipated, and we picked another winner for the Response of the Week. The Inquire This! segment put the expert to the test about Skylanders Battlecast. And finally, we had plenty of great emails from the community. Toys For Games 'Cast - Collecting, playing with, and discussing toys-to-life

Slow news week? Not in the world of toys-to-life, especially in the week leading up to San Diego Comic Con! Waiting a day to record proved to be the right decision, as news continued to trickle in right up until we hit the record button - and even some while in the middle of show. If there’s one thing we’re good at, it’s accidently having the perfect timing.   We start out talking about some more of the Premium figures that might have been coming to Disney Infinity, as well as the new “Kingdoms” story mode that would have been in 4.0. Then we chat about Nintendo being unpredictable by adding amiibo functionality to a four-year-old game. We break down the massive four-figure leak of Skylanders Imaginators and the secret Battlecast cards found in cereal. Finally, we blow the lid off of all the recent news regarding LEGO Dimensions that’s coming in BEFORE the Comic Con panel. The #CommunityQuestion was amplified thanks to Greg Miller, and we picked another winner for the Response of the Week. The Inquire This! segment put the expert to the test about older amiibo. And finally, we had plenty of great emails from the community. All this and more on Episode 82 of the Toys For Games ‘Cast! Toys For Games 'Cast - Collecting, playing with, and discussing toys-to-life

Even in the middle of summer, when the news isn’t coming in hot and heavy, we still manage to piece together one heck of a show. Thanks in part to some big reveals of more stuff that would have been coming to Disney Infinity, coupled with some Pokemon GO talk and other tomfoolery, Episode 81 turned into an instant classic. Be our guest, won’t you?   We started by talking about a LEGO Dimensions panel at SDCC hosted by Greg Miller, the newest amiibo release, Hood Sickle being sorta revealed by Skylanders, and of course, another healthy discussion about Disney Infinity. We talked about the most recent Premium figures reveals, as well as a ton of information about what else would have been coming to Disney Infinity in the upcoming year and for 4.0 later on down the road. The #CommunityQuestion was as fun as always, and we picked another winner for the Response of the Week. We didn’t have an Inquire This! question this week, but we did have plenty of great emails from the community. All this and more on Episode 81 of the Toys For Games ‘Cast!   Executive Producers: Jorge Torres! Toys For Games 'Cast - Collecting, playing with, and discussing toys-to-life

Episode 80 was a long time in the making, but after everything that has happened with Disney Infinity the last couple of months, now was the time to finally have an in-depth conversation with some special guests. Joining us on the podcast for a great Disney Infinity, we had Lloyd (@dasme) and Will (@iliam) from DisneyInfinity.tv, as well as @Infiniteering from Twitter and YouTube, or “Jim” as we came to know him. We discussed the cancellation of Disney Infinity, all the recently revealed figures that were coming next for the game, and so much more. We also made our guests stick around for emails and the #CommunityQuestion!   After saying goodbye to our three special guests, we got down to the news from our favorite four franchises, talking about the Premium Jack Skellington figure we’ll never get, confusing wording regarding Teen Titans Go! in LEGO Dimensions, alleged Skylanders prototypes, and some upcoming amiibo releases.   We wrapped up the show with a challenging Inquire This! trivia question that was sent in on a handwritten note, because how else would someone submit an Inquire This! challenge, right? All this and more on Episode 80 of the Toys For Games ‘Cast! Toys For Games 'Cast - Collecting, playing with, and discussing toys-to-life

After an incredibly busy week for both co-hosts, we finally settled on recording a Saturday morning podcast, because well, why not? To kick off this holiday weekend, we brought on a special guest to help explain the newest addition to the Toys For Games network - Sebastian Fortin, from Gotta Watch’em All! Sebastian breaks down what to expect from the podcast him and Ken have started to chronicle every episode of the Pokemon anime, along with everything else they have planned for this new branch of Toys For Games.   Oh, and there is a live unwrapping of a pack of Pokemon cards with an incredible find in it!   When we eventually get down to talking about the news from the toys-to-life franchises, we discuss the accidental leaks of never-before-seen LEGO Dimensions figures, a blurry image of a possible new Skylanders Sensei via Snapchat, the upcoming release of new Splatoon amiibo, and more reveals of figures and play sets that were on their way to Disney Infinity.   We still had a fun #CommunityQuestion, despite not getting it up until an hour before recording. There was also a very challenging Inquire This! trivia question. And of course, we also answered a bunch of great emails, as always, from the Best Community Ever. All this and more on Episode 79 of the Toys For Games ‘Cast! Executive Producers: Jorge Torres! Toys For Games 'Cast - Collecting, playing with, and discussing toys-to-life

Well, we made it back from our adventures in California! After a week of covering all the news from E3, Universal Studios and Harry Potter World, and the two Disney parks - Disneyland and California Adventure - we have resumed our regularly scheduled lives back in the real world. Despite still recovering from the Butterbeer hangovers we had, we can’t help but do what we do best … podcasting about toys!   First, we announced the details of the first ever Toys For Games Battlecast Tournament, with sign-ups officially open! After that, we talk about the final release for Disney Infinity, Tails being left out of LEGO Dimensions, a Crash “expansion level” in Imaginators, and the first ever glow-in-the-dark amiibo!   As always, we enjoyed reading through the community question responses, giving away another prize for the best idea. We didn’t have the voicemail line set up tonight, but we still challenged the expert with an amiibo related Inquire This! trivia question! And of course, we also answer a bunch of great emails, as always, from the Best Community Ever. After two full days of seeing everything that E3 had to offer, especially in terms of the toys-to-life genre, it was only fitting that we recorded Episode 77 from the hotel room. Once again, we brought SCL Matt in on the fun, and had ourselves quite the post-E3 show! With trips to Universal Studios and Disneyland in our immediate future, this episode had to happen tonight … or not at all!   We started off talking about our E3 experiences, before getting right into the news. We talked about the upcoming release of the Finding Dory Disney Infinity figures, the reemergence of Infinite Arms, our first-hand experiences of Skylanders Imaginators and LEGO Dimensions, and of course, all of the new amiibo announce by Nintendo. Oh, and Monster Trucks. We skipped over the community question, emails, and voicemails, simply because we were running long as it was. We did, however, have another great Inquire This! Trivia segment, which dove into the strange world of Metacritic. In the last full, normal show before we collectively head down to California for E3 and a week full of adventures and good times, we finally get to talk to the one and only Robert Welkner from Coin-OP TV! After all, it was Best Friends Day, and what better friend to have on then someone we’ve never had on before! Don’t worry, we had another best friend on the show later on as well.   We chatted with Rob about his time in the video game industry, his DVDs and IMDB page, his presence all over the internet, and of course, Skylanders Imaginators, since he got to see a special presentation at Activision Studios a couple of weeks ago. Oh, and we talked about what we’re excited to see and check out at E3 next week.   After saying goodbye to Robert (if only for a couple of days), we got down to business discussing amiibo, Disney Infinity, more Skylanders with special guest SCL Matt, and how good of a job LEGO Dimensions has been doing with the teases before their big announcements on June 9th! Preparing for E3, we laugh about the #CommunityQuestion, and give away another reward for “Response of the Week”. We also have another great Inquire This! Trivia segment, that seems undeniably impossible. And of course, we also answer a bunch of great emails, as always, from the Best Community Ever. In the second part of this episode, we then examine the #CommunityQuestion, and give away another reward for “Response of the Week” … or three. We also have another great Inquire This! Trivia segment, where both experts flex their muscles. The voicemail segment was saved for last, but be warned … shots were fired! And of course, we also answer a bunch of great emails, as always, from the Best Community Ever. All this and more on Episode 74 of the Toys For Games ‘Cast! We knew this day was coming eventually, and with less than two weeks before E3, a new Skylanders game announcement was imminent. After dealing with the loss of Disney Infinity, and the giant question marks surrounding LEGO Dimensions, a sure thing already announced was the sixth Skylanders title coming later this year. What we didn’t know was, well, everything else about it. That is, until the morning of June 1.   To help us break down the announcement of Skylanders: Imaginators, we invited none other than a perennial powerhouse on this show, Matt Sonnenberg, aka SCLMatt! We discuss everything we know and think we know about the sixth title from the Activision franchise. And don’t worry, we also talk about the recent rumblings from the other three franchises we love as well - LEGO Dimensions, amiibo, and Disney Infinity.   To be continued...   (Since this show was a long one, because of how much information we had to go over, we split the ‘cast into two parts)   Executive Producers: Brett Cangemi (@Brettman79) & Jorge Torres!   Our Sponsors: SHOW SPONSOR - Devin Laschinski (PSN/XBL: Unrace) James Holian (@InfinityMuseum) Matt Sonnenberg (@SCLMatt) from SkylandersCharacterList.com and Facebook.com/SkylandersCharacterList Micheal O'Driscoll (@amiibo_Museum) @AmiiboAmigo, from AmiiboAmigo.com. Toys For Games 'Cast - Collecting, playing with, and discussing toys-to-life

After a busy couple of weeks trying to make sense of the Disney Infinity cancellation, and doing our best to bring peace and understanding to the community still heartbroken about the news, Episode 73 was finally our chance to try and find normalcy for this podcast. Unfortunately, nothing is normal when it comes to the Toys For Games ‘cast. The sheer amount of tangents on this week’s show might be enough to drive anyone to madness, but the news in the toys-to-life genre this week is enough madness for anyone. Even the Joker, apparently.   When we get down to the brass tacks of the show, we discuss the Finding Dory Play Set gameplay leak, the launch of Skylanders Battlecast, possibile exclusive LEGO Dimensions figures, and the reveal of high-quality Monster Hunter amiibo!   We then examine the #CommunityQuestion, and give away another reward for “Response of the Week.” We also have another great Inquire This! Trivia segment, where the expert had the chance to prove his claim to the throne. The voicemail segment was an absolute blast, especially because it worked this week! And of course, we also answer a bunch of great emails, as always, from the Best Community Ever. Toys For Games 'Cast - Collecting, playing with, and discussing toys-to-life

A week after the shocking news about the closure of Disney Infinity, we’re back with Episode 72 because as you know, the show must go on. While last week’s show was more of a reactionary podcast, as not much information or news was available at the time of recording, this week was far more informed and far less speculative. Don’t be fooled, though. We weren’t able to make sense of this whole mess ourselves, which is why we brought on the reporter who blew the doors off the inside story of Disney Infinity’s closure - Patrick Klepek!   Patrick wrote an excellent article last week for Kotaku, detailing the inside scoop on what happened within Disney Infinity, what went wrong, and the future plans of the franchise. We figured there was no better way to relay all the information in that piece than to bring Patrick on the show to help us answer the tough questions. Not only did he further explain many of the points he made within the story, but he dropped a few more hot scoops live on the show, which at this point is exclusive info no one else has heard yet!   After chatting with Patrick for a while about Disney Infinity, collecting amiibo, and the man of who we shouldn’t speak of (Dan Ryckert), we get down to the nitty gritty and discuss the recent news in the toys-to-life genre. We discuss the final leaks of Disney Infinity, the upcoming amiibo releases, Skylanders 6 fakes, and LEGO Dimensions convention exclusives.   We then examine the #CommunityQuestion, and give away another reward for “Response of the Week.” We also have another great Inquire This! Trivia segment, where the expert was challenged with a Disney Infinity question. We tried to do the voicemail segment, but Microsoft had different ideas for that. And of course, we also answer a bunch of great emails, as always, from the Best Community Ever. All this and more on Episode 72 of the Toys For Games ‘Cast! A day we never expected to happen, happened. We’ve been talking about the eventual burst of the toys-to-life genre, and while this major news may not specifically indicate the beginning of the end, it certainly is a major blow to the entire video game industry and especially the genre we all know and love. Disney Infinity is closing its doors and ceasing operations, and well … we’re absolutely heartbroken.   We breeze through some general news from the other franchises, including Skylanders releases, amiibo functionality in Pokemon, and the release of wave 5 for LEGO Dimensions. After that, however, the rest of the show is dedicated to breaking down, explaining, rationalizing, remembering, reacting, and making sense of all the emotions revolving around the sad news of Disney Infinity.   We close out the show with a bunch of emails and reactions from the community about Disney Infinity, and try to brighten the dark day with some laughs and entertainment. #ThankYouDisneyInfinity   Executive Producers: Brett Cangemi (@Brettman79) & Jorge Torres! Well, Jason promised the show would “go downhill quicker than a cardboard canoe,” and thanks to the inexperience of proper podcasting protocol and a lackluster internet connection, Jason #2 aka @AmiiboJason did all he could to sink this Titanic. Fortunately, the ever lovely Lauren aka @HappilyCandied was there to counterbalance the disturbance and add a touch of class to the show.   In all honesty, it was great having the duo from AmiiboNews and Nintendo Inquirer on the show, as we got to discuss the new Kirby amiibo, the new Splatoon amiibo announcement, and everything else Nintendo!   After saying goodbye to our dear friends, we got down to business, as we always do. We covered Disney Infinity celebrating May the 4th, upcoming Skylanders releases, and the biggest news of the night, a giant LEGO Dimensions leak! Some big things have happened live on this show before, but this is definitely high on that list!   We also examine the #CommunityQuestion, and give away another reward for “Response of the Week.” We also have another great Inquire This! Trivia segment, where the expert decided to challenge himself. The introduction of the brand new voicemail segment also happens, and surprisingly, it wasn’t a total dumpster fire! Toys For Games 'Cast - Collecting, playing with, and discussing toys-to-life

We’re back from Boston, and we’re rested, recharged, refocused, and ready for fun and surprises! Fresh off hosting a live panel at PAX East in Boston, we’re back to recount our trip, discuss what we saw, played, and experienced at PAX, and break down how the panel itself went.   After recapping the PAX East experience, we actually get to some news from the four main franchises that got us here in the first place. We discuss Disney Infinity learning from previous mistakes (maybe?), a Q&A session with the LEGO Dimensions developers, a sneaky news drop from Skylanders, and the current state of amiibo.   We also examine the #CommunityQuestion, and give away another reward for “Response of the Week.” The Inquire This! Segment seemed like it might have been tricky at first glance, but could Jason be stumped? And of course, we also answer a bunch of great emails, as always, from the Best Community Ever. What does the last episode before a trip to Boston for PAX East combined with a slow news week sound like? Coincidently enough, it sounds a lot like this episode - Episode 67! What other toys-to-life podcast will you hear riveting discussion about the mustache of Benedict Cumberbatch or the rules of duels? Here, and only here.   There is a bit of news to touch upon, including weird Amazon pricing of LEGO Dimensions, Skylanders Battlecast pre-orders in the UK, GameStop pre-orders for unannounced Disney Infinity characters, and a little tidbit about amiibo restocks.   We also examine the #CommunityQuestion, and give away the first reward for “Response of the Week.” The Inquire This! Segment is back, with a question dating back to the 80s, and we also answer a bunch of great emails, as always, from the Best Community Ever. Toys For Games 'Cast - Collecting, playing with, and discussing toys-to-life

We promised (albeit accidentally) 33 episodes ago that Episode 66 was going to be special and one to look forward to, and I’m happy to report that we lived up to the hype! While it might have been a slow news week, this week’s show is full of goodness. One might say our cup is overflowing, thanks to a newfound Ally in our dedication to the toys-to-life genre. We welcome to the show, for the first time officially, Brandon Jones, Editor-in-Chief of Easy Allies!   Brandon chats about the formation of Easy Allies, how he fell in love with Disney Infinity originally, the current state of the toys-to-life genre, and much more regarding all things in this genre we love. We also talk about the trials and tribulations of collecting in general, good Disneyland food, and yes, even … SHOPKINS!   After we let Brandon go enjoy the rest of his evening, we get down to serious business with news in the toys-to-life franchises. We discuss the release of the Kylo Ren Light FX figure, breaking Skylanders news, more LEGO Dimensions rumor confirmation, and possible amiibo support in the upcoming “NX” Nintendo console via a new patent.   We also examine the #CommunityQuestion - WITH AN EXCITING ANNOUNCEMENT - and answer a bunch of great emails, as always, from the Best Community Ever.
