Well, we finally say goodbye to the Toys For Games podcast, as we move on to another chapter...
Toys For Games 'Cast - Collecting, playing with, and discussing toys-to-life
For Episode 106, we couldn’t even think about recording until the big meeting in Activision HQ took place, as the fate of the Skylanders franchise hung in the balance. Once the dust settled, however, we jumped right in, bringing not only the Skylanders update, but every other bit of news from the toys-to-life genre, to the show for you, the listening audience. Skylands may be in trouble, but Toys For Games is not! We kick off the show discussing Jason’s globetrotting plans (what’s new), and his birthday, which just so happens to be celebrated by the holiday of love as well. When we get to the news, we start off with a recap of the Disney Infinity community game nights, before discussing the release of LEGO Dimensions Wave 7.5. Then we chat about some amiibo, and invite a couple of special guests on - in the middle of the show, without any warning! From there, we gush about the handcrafted Space Eagle from Beasts of Balance. Finally, we break down the big Skylanders news from Activision’s investor’s meeting today, and what it possibly means for the fate of the franchise. In the back half of the episode, we read through all the tweets for the #CommunityQuestion, and pick a winner for the #ResponseOfTheWeek giveaway. Finally, we wrap up with several great emails from the great folks in the community, doing our best to answer all questions thrown our way! Toys For Games 'Cast - Collecting, playing with, and discussing toys-to-life
The best use of lemons is to make lemonade, and that’s exactly what we do with a slow news week here at Toys For Games. Acting as a pre-show to the Second Annual Toys For Games Awards next week, and in the middle of what is typically a slower time for news, the highlight of Episode 102 easily has to be the passion and electricity for what turns out to be a true love story. Starting off in the news, we discuss the continued confusing nature that is the Disney lawyers, Skylanders day at GameStop this coming weekend, a bizarre sale of LEGO Dimensions, the long wait for the Switch announcement on Thursday, and the awesome looking Lightseekers beta figures. But most importantly, we wax poetic about the best looking figure in the history of Skylanders - Pain-Yatta! Yes, Pain-Yatta is BAE, no questions asked. We also break down every single category and all the nominees for the Second Annual Toys For Games Awards, to be held on January 19th. There were a few categories and nominees that needed a bit more explanation than the voting page explains, so we took the time, as the last show before the Awards, to lay it all out for you, the community. From there, we read the #CommunityQuestion and awarded a listener a cool prize for having the Response of the Week. And finally, we wrapped up the show with some fantastic emails, as always! All this, and more, only in Episode 102! Executive Producers: Jorge Torres! Toys For Games 'Cast - Collecting, playing with, and discussing toys-to-life
After an incredibly busy week for both co-hosts, we finally settled on recording a Saturday morning podcast, because well, why not? To kick off this holiday weekend, we brought on a special guest to help explain the newest addition to the Toys For Games network - Sebastian Fortin, from Gotta Watch’em All! Sebastian breaks down what to expect from the podcast him and Ken have started to chronicle every episode of the Pokemon anime, along with everything else they have planned for this new branch of Toys For Games. Oh, and there is a live unwrapping of a pack of Pokemon cards with an incredible find in it! When we eventually get down to talking about the news from the toys-to-life franchises, we discuss the accidental leaks of never-before-seen LEGO Dimensions figures, a blurry image of a possible new Skylanders Sensei via Snapchat, the upcoming release of new Splatoon amiibo, and more reveals of figures and play sets that were on their way to Disney Infinity. We still had a fun #CommunityQuestion, despite not getting it up until an hour before recording. There was also a very challenging Inquire This! trivia question. And of course, we also answered a bunch of great emails, as always, from the Best Community Ever. All this and more on Episode 79 of the Toys For Games ‘Cast! Executive Producers: Jorge Torres! Toys For Games 'Cast - Collecting, playing with, and discussing toys-to-life
In this very special episode of the Toys For Games 'cast, we have an abbreviated show yet an incredibly focussed one. Despite technically being on vacation, there was no way we wouldn't be doing a podcast after the day it was in the toys-to-life world. We start off with the growing momentum of the Crash Bandicoot in Skylanders rumors, and discuss why we think it's a good thing and don't understand the hate for it. Then, we get to the reason we expected to be doing this show in the first place, which of course was the official announcement of Year 2 of LEGO Dimensions. We break down the trailer, press release, and every other bit of news we can find with as much excitement and anticipation as you would expect! After a busy couple of weeks trying to make sense of the Disney Infinity cancellation, and doing our best to bring peace and understanding to the community still heartbroken about the news, Episode 73 was finally our chance to try and find normalcy for this podcast. Unfortunately, nothing is normal when it comes to the Toys For Games ‘cast. The sheer amount of tangents on this week’s show might be enough to drive anyone to madness, but the news in the toys-to-life genre this week is enough madness for anyone. Even the Joker, apparently. When we get down to the brass tacks of the show, we discuss the Finding Dory Play Set gameplay leak, the launch of Skylanders Battlecast, possibile exclusive LEGO Dimensions figures, and the reveal of high-quality Monster Hunter amiibo! We then examine the #CommunityQuestion, and give away another reward for “Response of the Week.” We also have another great Inquire This! Trivia segment, where the expert had the chance to prove his claim to the throne. The voicemail segment was an absolute blast, especially because it worked this week! And of course, we also answer a bunch of great emails, as always, from the Best Community Ever. All this and more on Episode 73 of the Toys For Games ‘Cast! Sometimes, slow news weeks just happen. You can squeeze blood from a turnip as much as you’d like, but that will only get a podcast so far. That’s when the toys-to-life gods have to intervene and drop a giant, juicy news story right in the laps of Toys For Games, the community, and really, the entire video game industry. We start off talking about all the established toys-to-life franchises, discussing some sales for Skylanders, how LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens might improve LEGO Dimensions, the continued frustrations over Disney Infinity’s silence, and the busy weekend for amiibo releases. After the four franchises are taken care of, we jump to the biggest, most exciting news of the week, which was the out-of-nowhere announcement of a new game entering the toys-to-life genre, Infinite Arms. This new IP, releasing later this summer, is promising to evolve the genre into “games-to-life”, and it has us both excited to see if this could be an actual contended for a fifth franchise in the genre we know and love. We also examine the #CommunityQuestion and answer a bunch of great emails, many of which are from first time emailers! All this and more on Episode 63 of the Toys For Games ‘Cast! In celebration of the one year anniversary of the Toys For Games ‘Cast, Episode 55 was replaced by the First Annual Toys For Games Awards! A couple of weeks back, all of the categories and nominees were announced, leaving it up to the community and fans to vote on the awards! Check out all the action HERE. After the voting ended, the voting committee consisting of Jason and Josh took all the fan votes and then cast their votes, eventually coming to an agreement on all of the categories. The culmination of this process was Episode 55 - the First Annual Toys For Games Awards! Awards were given out, discussed and broken down, one at a time. Even a few of the winners sent in acceptance speeches! Despite a relatively slow news week, the show must go on, as the say - which meant, of course, Episode 54 happened. While there wasn’t a ton of stuff to talk about, Jason and Josh still managed to cobble together a show, filled with previews of the upcoming releases for LEGO Dimensions and amiibo, another chat about the Skylanders Battlecast cards, and an interesting discussion about Disney Playmation. The #CommunityQuestion asks which upcoming release is more exciting (SPOILER: Greg Miller is RIGHT), and the Inquire This! trivia question challenges the expert about a unique trade. And as always, a few emails to round off the show. Also, our Patreon is discussed, and we’re looking for feedback on that! Thank you, to all of you wonderful fans and supporters of Toys For Games throughout the year. We love each and every one of you. We’ll catch you next time, at the FIRST ANNUAL TOYS FOR GAMES AWARDS! Episode 52 almost didn’t happen this, as we strongly considered taking a week off due to a lack of news and the holidays and such. However, the universe apparently had other things in mind when an entire show worth of breaking news was dropped on our lap in the last 24 hours, thus leading to this emergency, middle of the day podcast. What better way to finish off 2015, right?Discussed in Episode 52 are some killer LEGO Dimensions sales, amiibo pre-orders going live, serious speculation regarding upcoming Disney Infinity figures and Play Sets, and of course, the motherload of Skylanders breaking news! Episode 49 almost didn’t happen because of a disastrous work week for Josh, but instead of calling it off or phoning it in, a great show came to fruition. Feeding off of Jason’s pre-show energetic buzz, the duo get hyped up for the Episode 50 AMA next week, as well as a bunch of giveaways going on they both are currently running. After talking about the pick-ups for the week, they break down an amazing LEGO Dimensions sale coming up, talk about Skylanders Day, break down some upcoming amiibo production runs and have a fireside chat regarding the Light FX Figures. Toys For Games welcomes the start of September, as Josh and Jason are back for Episode 35! This week they aren’t alone, however, as they brought on a special guest to help celebrate the launch of Disney Infinity 3.0! Straight from the Toy Box Summit, and in-between shifts at the popcorn stand in the El Capitan Theatre, it’s Mighty Gitis aka Lauren (@MightyLauren)! As an in-game character, a Disney Infinity celebrity and master of the Toy Box, Lauren brought with her lots of stories from the Toy Box Summit and tons of insightful wisdom regarding every aspect of the game. The trio also got to answer several DI-specific emails as well, many of which were directed to Mighty Gitis herself! Don’t worry, Skylanders SuperChargers, LEGO Dimensions and of course, amiibo, are talked about as well! Despite it being Disney Infinity 3.0 launch week, the other toys-to-life franchises haven’t steered completely clear of Mickey Mouse and gang. LEGO Dimensions revealed the Midway Arcade Level Pack, Skylanders are looking BEAUTIFUL, and Shovel Knight is kicking down the amiibo door. Time Stamps: Disney Infinity 3.0 w/ Mighty Gitis - The start, up until 1:34:40 Emails - 1:34:45 LEGO Dimensions - 2:04:13 Skylanders SuperChargers - 2:17:35 Nintendo’s amiibo - 2:30:25 #CommunityQuestion - 2:45:55
Toys For Games 'Cast - Collecting, playing with, and discussing toys-to-life
Josh and Jason prepare for the first huge release since the conception of the Toys For Games ‘Cast, as Disney Infinity 3.0 releases on August 30th! Before getting to the news, they break down the process of mailing coconuts. Once they get to the meat and potatoes of the show, the briefly discuss the quietness of LEGO Dimensions and break down some Skylanders SuperChargers launch news. Then the fun starts, thanks to Nintendo, who dropped a megaton bomb of information out of nowhere at the start of Disney Infinity 3.0 week! Tons of amiibo news, all of which guarantees Toys For Games will be busy (and broke) through November. Finally, they get to Disney Infinity, as they talk about what to expect from the launch of the game, including all the best places to buy everything you want or need for the brand new game. It’s the final countdown now! They also break down the #CommunityQuestion, and with the help of a couple of great community members, some actual info was pulled from it! The email section is entertaining as always, as the questions and discussions from them get better and better each week! Also, a huge announcement regarding the future of Toys For Games is made at the end of the show, and hopefully the response is as positive as anticipated! Thank you all for truly being the Best Community Ever, and hopefully with your help, Toys For Games is going to infinity and beyond! Toys For Games 'Cast - Collecting, playing with, and discussing toys-to-life
Josh had to come up with a podcast on his own, since Jason's schedule wouldn't allow him to co-host this week, so he turned to the best partner he has ... his fiancee, Valerie! Together, they talk about the latest and greatest news in the toys-to-life franchises, but more importantly, reflect on the passing of Satoru Iwata, and just what he and his vision and inspiration meant to the community. Also, be sure to partake in the newly announced "30 for 30" contest, where someone can win a $30 Amazon gift card just for leaving a review of the show.
