Not knowing the publishing rules helped Austin Taylor sell her debut, Notes on Infinity. From lab notes to spreadsheets, learn her data-driven approach. In today's Book Gang episode, debut author Austin Taylor joins me to discuss her dazzling new novel Notes on Infinity. This high-concept campus novel follows Zoe and Jack, two brilliant students whose late-night collaboration leads to the development of an anti-aging drug, a billion-dollar startup, and a powerful reckoning.Austin brings a unique blend of rigor and vulnerability to her work, drawing from her dual background in chemistry and English, as well as personal experiences with chronic illness that reshaped her academic trajectory. Notes on Infinity may ask how far we'll go to chase our dreams, but this conversation dives into how far Austin went to write them.In this insightful conversation, Austin and I discuss:How not knowing "the rules" of publishing gave her the freedom to query an ambitious debut. The thoughtful strategies she used to distill complex scientific ideas without losing her novel's credibility—or alienating readers. The importance of chronic illness representation and how her own health challenges added urgency and emotional authenticity to the story.BONUS BOOK LIST:This week, I'm sharing a companion list of 32 Unforgettable Campus Novels With All the Drama—from ivy-draped secrets to heady student-faculty dynamics to the unsettling thrill of starting over. If Notes on Infinity sparked something for you, these book titles will keep the conversation going.Meet Austin TaylorAustin Taylor graduated from Harvard University in 2021 with a joint degree in chemistry and English. Notes on Infinity is inspired in part by her undergraduate studies, peers, and lab work in Harvard's chemistry department. She has also worked as a public speaking coach and in science policy. Austin is a private pilot, a registered Maine guide, and a bassist. Organisations often find themselves trapped in an infinite loop. Typically hailed as an "infinity loop" or "patching loop,” it's differentiated by a continuous cycle of fixing problems, patching, and redoing data pipelines just to maintain operations.“It's a trap that many financial institutions, banks, insurance companies, and more fall into. This loop or this cycle is a process of focusing on fixing problems, patching,” describes Errol Rodericks. In this episode of the Don't Panic It's Just Data podcast, Errol Rodericks, Product & Solutions Marketing and Sales Enablement Specialist at Denodo, discusses the challenges faced by financial services in steering the infinity loop of reactive data management. He emphasises the importance of breaking free from this cycle to achieve real innovation and success in AI-led initiatives. The conversation explores the significance of AI-ready data, the journey from bronze to gold data products, and how Denodo helps bridge the last-mile gap in data management. The Cost of Poor Data"The cost of poor data isn't just bad decisions. It's the decisions you never knew you could make. You never get around to that."This statement sets the stage for the podcast. It captures the profound effect of being stuck in a reactive data mode and how organisations can overcome it. Rodericks believes that financial services are entirely missing out on strategic opportunities that could redefine their market position. While many financial institutions have invested heavily in centralised lakehouse architectures like Snowflake or Databricks. These alone are not enough. They often struggle to deliver the trusted, real-time insights that Gen AI and business teams require. Missed Opportunities to Measurable OutcomesIt becomes more challenging for financial institutions to deliver adequate Gen AI real-time data insights when dealing with the "missing mile" of data. Approximately 30 per cent of crucial data is often overlooked or inaccessible. To overcome the Gen AI challenges, Denodo facilitates logical data management. The firm provides direct access to live, relevant, and governed data when it's needed. It becomes critical for achieving measurable outcomes with AI-led initiatives. For Chief Financial Officers (CFOs), Rodericks offered a succinct but powerful message – "Modern finance isn't about reports... It's about your ability to predict, to personalise, and to prevent – the three Ps."TakeawaysThe infinity loop is a trap for financial institutions.Reactive data handling leads to missed insights and customer churn.Breaking out of the infinity loop is essential for innovation.AI projects often fail due to unreliable data inputs.AI-ready data must be trusted, timely, contextual, and reusable. The journey from bronze to gold data products is strategic.Ownership of data products is crucial for success.Timeliness of data is critical in financial services.Denodo provides real-time access to data without copying it.Modern finance focuses on prediction, personalisation, and prevention.Chapters00:00 Understanding the Infinity Loop in Financial Services04:23 Breaking Free from the Infinity Loop06:03 The Cost of Firefighting Mode09:14 The Importance of AI-Ready Data19:42 The Journey from Bronze to Gold Data Products22:53 Bridging the Last Mile Gap27:06 Real-World Examples of

Instead, he advocates for an ongoing process rooted in understanding decision-makers, asking insightful questions, and maintaining authentic, relationship-based outreach. Jason shares practical tactics partners can implement to stay top of mind with clients and internal referral sources. He introduces the concept of a "30-point system" to gamify outreach efforts and emphasizes the power of micro-habits—small, consistent actions like checking in with colleagues or sharing relevant content. From CRM tracking to gratitude-based follow-ups, Jason's methods are grounded in both social science and professional success stories. Listeners walk away with clear action steps to create structured follow-up systems, improve internal collaboration, and build deeper connections that lead to more business. Cross-selling is becoming an essential part of how law firms can boost their revenue and create long-lasting relationships with their clients. Yet, CMOs and BD leaders have recognized that their lawyers are struggling to cross-sell effectively, leaving them wondering how they can get their lawyers over the cross-selling barriers. The key to that is building real human connection. On today's episode of the CMO Series Podcast, Charlie Knight is joined by Jason Levin, Founder of Ready Set Launch and author of Relationships to Infinity, former brand marketer of Unilever, and a business development coach to law firms across the US. Jurgen Ziewe is not a teacher in the traditional sense, but a witness—one who has journeyed beyond the boundaries of self into the vast stillness of unity consciousness. For over five decades, his life has unfolded as an ongoing exploration of multidimensional reality, shaped by a profound meditation practice and spontaneous Out-of-Body Experiences (OBEs) that opened the doorway to a deeper truth. A moment of unexpected clarity during an ordinary breakfast catalyzed Jurgen's first direct experience beyond the body—an event that would transform his life and initiate hundreds of journeys into higher realms. What he discovered was not theory, but a living presence—structured, luminous, and more real than waking life. Rather than building an identity around these experiences, Jurgen surrendered ever more deeply into stillness. His work, including the acclaimed books Multidimensional Man, Vistas of Infinity, and The Ten Minute Moment, offers not just insight but transmission—a quiet resonance that awakens something remembered but long forgotten. Audiences often speak of his presence as calming, expansive, and strangely familiar. His seminars and talks evoke deep shifts—not through persuasion, but through the palpable stillness from which he speaks. A renowned illustrator by profession, Jurgen now brings his inner visions to life using cutting-edge virtual reality and AI, offering immersive glimpses into realities beyond the senses. He offers no dogma, only a clear, ego-free reflection of the vast peace and joy available when the self dissolves into unity. His life is not a performance, but a quiet act of service—a transmission from stillness to stillness. The Hunt shall continue until morale improves. Or until we finish this mini-series, whichever comes first. My money is on the mini-series. I mean, we are almost there. I can hear the leviathan singing. In the days before the internet and Pong, man only had rocks to play with. And the man with the biggest rock, usually won. But what about the country with the biggest rock? Speaking of big, the big man does not always win. Sometimes he gets the stuffing beat out of him. Sometimes he gets his wallet stolen. Sometimes it is his shoe. Sometimes it is all three. You should always take big chances. For example, if you find yourself being thrown from a flying craft, above a giant ocean, take a chance on this big opportunity. You are already up in the air. You are either going to survive the landing or not, have some fun. Do a flip or two. Try flying. Take up religion. You have nothing to lose. Oh. You should also take this chance to explore the bounds of physics. Why not....might as well. Big battles are awesome . They are more awesome when you have a chance of winning. They are even better when you are not over a big body of water. And then there is a big shark. You really never want to meet one of those. I hope you enjoyed this big talk about this big issue. NOTE: This interview contains spoilers from both Black Mirror: “USS Callister” episodes. Join us as we boldly go behind the scenes of Black Mirror: “USS Callister: Into Infinity,” with the creative team behind the episode. In this panel, the director, composer, supervising sound editor, and VFX supervisor share how they brought the nightmarish galaxy of Robert Daly back to life with bold visuals, cinematic music, and immersive sound, as well as the reasons why this became the very first Black Mirror sequel ever. “It's really tricky when you come back and do a sequel of something. None of us wanted to work on something that was going to be any lesser than the original. And the original is… speaking for myself… the closest thing to a perfect episode. It has such a great beginning, middle and end. And it has such a great conclusion, it feels so wrapped up. Yet it's still a great launching point into a whole new recognizable world. But it's its own IP. And so I always knew that it had the potential to be a series or a sequel. I knew that I wanted to explore these characters in that world even further.”—Toby Haynes, Director, Black Mirror: “USS Callister: Into Infinity”Joining today's conversation: - Toby Haynes - Director - Tom Jenkins - Supervising Sound Editor - James MacLachlan - VFX Supervisor - Daniel Pemberton - Composer Be sure to check out Black Mirror: “USS Callister: Into Infinity,” now streaming on Netflix, in Dolby Vision® and Dolby Atmos®.Please subscribe to Dolby Creator Talks wherever you get your podcasts. You can also check out the video for this episode on YouTube.Learn more about the Dolby Creator Lab and check out Dolby.com.
