Redscroll & Friends Favorites of 2024 We have our (Rick & Josh's) favorites of the year as usual. We have the Redscroll employee favorites also as usual. We've expanded beyond that even! Favorites from some folks in bands on our record label and folks we closely associate and collaborate on the regular! Friends! Most of those folks have recorded their own list and introduced themselves plus there's a few that have submitted a list that we've creatively included. You can go on the web post to peruse their lists (redscroll records dot com) as well. They've all but a couple (yet) been on the podcast too so we'll include their respective episode links on the site as well. Happy New Year!   Redscroll Records Label Releases for 2024 We generally feel too close to them ourselves (Josh & Rick) to include the Redscroll releases as favorites, but of course they are. We wouldn't release them otherwise! So, firstly, here's a quick round up of what we've released this past year (and it's been a good amount of great stuff)! In chronological order:February 2nd: Intercourse “Egyptian Democracy / Bum Wine” 12” February 2nd: Doom Beach / Chop Chop Chop Chop Chop Chop Chop (split) 12” April 5th: The Knife Kickers “Nameless” LP April 8th: Dirt Devil “Desert Moon” CS (SOLD OUT) March 1st: Tongue Depressor & Austin Larkin “Landau Bar” LP June 18th: Intercourse “Bag Fumblers Incorporated 2021-2024” CD July 5th: Trance Macabre “Trance Macabre” LP August 2nd: Dissolve “Burnt” CS/LP October 29th / December 6th: Chained to the Bottom of the Ocean “Sisyphean Cruelty” CD/CS/LP We've got a couple slated for next year already so we're not slowing down! Stay tuned for announcements on those! A couple more we were associate with with exclusive colors this year too! Kidnapped “Disgust” (DAZE) – would absolutely work with again, Lumpy is great. Kidnapped is great. Craven Faults “Bounds” (Leaf) Electronic experimental ambient act out of the Yorkshire, UK. We were contacted by Leaf about splitting a color (Lime Kiln Grey) with Norman Records in the UK and to have a unique OBI strip and it came out great. The record is really a great record and we're happy to be associated with it and it's our first overseas collaboration of any kind so that's pretty exciting and we're absolutely chuffed with how it turned out. FAVORITES LISTS! We've got our lists first. Staff picks follow. Then the rest will be in no particular order other than I will try to mix it up in the edit and put different ends of the spectrum back to back to keep y'all on your toes and hopefully interested in it all! Like I said before you'll be able to check them all out on our web post. Links, pictures, etc. up on the site. I'll assemble a playlist as well to publish with this so you can check all these things in more depth in your own time. That link will be on the web post as well.   Josh's Favorites of 2024: Shannon & The Clams “The Moon is in the Wrong Place” (Easy Eye Sound) Rickshaw Billie's Burger Patrol “Big Dumb Riffs” (Permanent Teeth Records) Pissed Jeans “Half Divorced” (Sub Pop) TR/ST “Performance” (Dais) Chisel “What A Fucking Nightmare" (Pure Noise) High Vis “Guided Tour” (Dais) Trees Speak “Timefold” (Soul Jazz) Future Islands “People Who Aren't There Anymore” (4AD) Jamie xx “In Waves” (Young) Rotting Christ “Pro Xristou” (Season of Mist) Disfigure "New Age Of Judgement" (Self Released) BEST LOCAL Glass Beams “Mahal” (Ninja Tune) BEST EP Josh's Honorable Mentions (no music clips in podcast - check 'em out though!) This week Kevin and Stewart sit down and talk about two really big, fun, and exciting, topics:What has Kevin been up to the last year? What is Kevin doing now and going forward?Spoiler Alert: For Kevin, the last year has been filled with joy and thankfulness while doing deep work on himself, others, and the construction industry.  Though Kevin will keep many of the plates spinning in this new season, today's episode announces the launch of Mountain Mover Facades.Mountain Mover Facades is a glass and glazing specialty contractor headquartered in D/FW that does procurement, fabrication, and installation of  glazing systems on commercial buildings.  But that's not what makes them special; it's what they call their PVC that makes them special (purpose, vision and core values).  This week's episode dives into defining that, introducing the talented individuals on the team, and previews the excitement for an idea that will build an army of Mountain Movers, one person at a time!|| Show Notes ||Mountain Mover Facadeshttps://mountainmoverfacades.com/https://linktr.ee/mtn_mvrsMountain Mover Facade Hype Video (with Bloopers)https://bit.ly/3F5ap7CLean Builder Workshophttps://bit.ly/3PJgCef || Connect with Us || Check out all our episodes on all major streaming platforms, and further engagement with the 17Twenty crew on social media at:https://17twenty.buzzsprout.com/https://www.linkedin.com/company/17twentyhttps://www.instagram.com/17twentypodcastGrab your copy of the Mountain Mover Manual: How to Live Intentionally, Lead with Purpose, and Achieve Your Greatest Potential, by Kevin CareyOriginally in print:https://amzn.to/441OPeHAnd now available on Audible:https://adbl.co/45YIKB2

In this episode, you will meet two amazing women who are fellow MOUNTAIN MOVERS! Teena is a self-advocate and well-known for her "suitcase" presentation where she unpacks what life looks like for people with disabilities. Julie not only works to support families who have loved ones with special needs, she also has two children on the Spectrum. Navigating adulthood can be hard enough and then adding in the need for some accommodations and safeguards can be daunting. Our guests teamed up with us to talk with us about the idea that EVERYONE NEEDS A PLACE TO CALL HOME - A place that feels like home because there is CHOICE and the respect and dignity to build a life around what personally matters to each person. As the discussion unfolds, you'll realize that while our current housing reality is tough, there have been times that even fewer options were available. Lean into this conversation and learn how we can "work" our current system and advocate for change. We hope you leave the discussion with some ideas and peace of mind knowing you are not alone. Welcome to a brand new episode of the ¿Quién Tú Eres? podcast, where we explore the conflict we often face between "professionalism" & being our authentic selves. This week's guest is Judge Victoria Pratt. Driven. Innovative. Inspiring. These are a few of the words used to describe Judge Victoria Pratt who has gained national and international acclaim for her commitment to reforming the criminal justice system. During her tenure as the Chief Judge in Newark Municipal Court in Newark, New Jersey, she spent years gaining a deep understanding of how justice could be delivered to court participants in a manner that increased their trust in the legal system and changed their behavior. While presiding over Newark Community Solutions, the Community Court Program, she used creative problem solving to provide alternatives to jail to low-level offenders. These alternatives included community service, individual and group counseling sessions, and her signature assignment of introspective essays. Called a pioneer in procedural justice, her respectful approach, and treating individuals with dignity has had a positive effect on court participants' court experience, how the community viewed the court and how court players viewed their roles. Her TED Talk, How Judges Can Show Respect, has gone viral. It has been translated into 11 languages, received over one million views and the Facebook clip has received an astounding 21 million views. A fierce advocate committed to reform, Pratt has worked with jurisdictions across the nation, and as far as Ukraine, England, Trinidad and Tobago, and Mexico. In that role she facilitates workshops and presentations on alternative sentencing for juveniles and adults, as well as procedural justice. As a nationally recognized expert in procedural justice and alternative sentencing, Judge Pratt has been asked by numerous professional organizations to share her story and philosophy. Pratt's work has been featured in The Guardian newspaper, The Simple Idea that Could Transform U.S. Criminal Justice, and Rutgers Magazine, Asking for a Little Respect, both written by Pulitzer prize winning author Tina Rosenberg. She has also appeared on MSNBC's the Melissa Harris Perry Show, the Emmy-award winning PBS show Due Process- Community Court: A Kinder, Gentler Way? and National Public Radio's WBGO: Conversations with Allan Wolper. Now, a Professor at Rutgers Law School in Newark, New Jersey, she teaches Problem Solving Justice and Restorative Justice. She also continues to champion criminal justice reform through her consulting firm Pratt Lucien Consultants, LLC, by sharing her skills and approach with others. As well as speaking to leaders of institutions and organizations about how to heighten and restore respect into their day-to-day operations so that their mission can be better achieved. Pratt is licensed to practice law in both New Jersey and New York, and is admitted to the U.S. Supreme Court. She also facilitates Mountain Movers empowerment sessions to help individuals live their best lives. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/quientueres/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/quientueres/support

Aimee talked about supporting her students through this pandemic and beyond in part through shifting mindsets and reframing negative thinking. I loved how she talked about our role as educators as focused around teaching students to care and to prioritize what it is they care about, ideally moving away from stress about homework towards empathy and care for each other. Aimee puts the same passion into supporting fellow educators and artists through coaching. She shared some great advice around selling your artwork and thinking through all the questions to ask around creating art objects. It was also so interesting to hear about how she works with many media, materials, and processes and how she conceptualizes and carries out her work. Aimee Sones was born and raised in southern California. She loves to travel and has lived all over the United States, worked, and lived in India and the UAE. Aimee holds an MFA from The Ohio State University and has given lectures/demonstrations and exhibited in the US, Bulgaria, England, Germany, India, and the UAE. She has received numerous scholarships, awards, and several Greater Columbus Arts Council Grants. Aimee enjoys working with students of all ages and has taught at institutions including California State University, Fullerton, the National School of Applied Arts “St. Luca,” Sofia, Bulgaria and the Pilchuck Glass School, Stanwood, Washington. Aimee has been studying emotional intelligence, meditation, and healing since 2015 in California, Hawaii and at the Yale Center for Emotional Intelligence. Over the past decade, Aimee has also worked behind the scenes on a variety of projects including managing day to day tasks, educational planning, curriculum development and implementing strategic systems for the success of organizations such as Glass Axis, The Torch Foundation, Pilchuck Glass School, and the Los Angeles Glass Center. In 2021, Aimee founded the Mountain Movers School to support art educators and entrepreneurs in bringing more balance, joy and confidence into all areas of their lives. Aimee currently lives in southern California, where she teaches, creates, and assists organizations, other creatives and entrepreneurs in reaching their next level. On this episode of the Redscroll Podcast we talk with Rick Omonte. We brought him on this time (third time!) to talk specifically about his passion project that's occupied much of the last decade (more accurately about 7 years); it is a compilation entitled "Puro Tayta Shanti" that is now out on Discos Shaki with Little Axe Records.   Instead of filling this space with the insight Rick Omonte brings to life with his stories and explanations we'll let you listen. At the end of the talk we briefly cover the other subjects he's been on the podcast for: the Mountain Movers (and other bands/musical projects) and the State House (still fairly new New Haven set music venue).

This episode brings us to the origins of Redscroll as a label and in general with Mikey Daddona who currently resides in Oakland, CA and runs Ratskin Records - a haven for experimental artists ranging from leftfield pop & soul to harsh noise. Ross Menze also accompanied Mikey on this trip and though he was not the focus of the conversation we didn't ignore him; Ross plays in Headroom, Mountain Movers, his self-named project and over the years myriad other musical outfits. Mikey on left and Ross on right We talk about the early days of Redscroll, Ratskin Records and its roster in general, the Ghost Ship tragedy, San Francisco and Oakland's changing artistic climate, and various branches from each of these things.

This episode is with Dan and Rick of the Mountain Movers who have a new record out on Trouble in Mind. We talk about the new record, Pink Skies. We talk about Dan's art (which adorns many of the Mountain Movers albums). We talk about music in general and we delve off into different directions here and there.    The Redscroll Podcast is a monthly show (new episodes on the first of the month) that works as a companion to what we do at Redscroll Records in Wallingford, CT USA. We are a record store that has a heavy emphasis on the left of center / underground music of the world. Whether it be underappreciated or just has a niche audience, marginalized or just off the radar it's all of interest to us. With the show we'll generally have a localized focus. We'll discuss what is in our personal rotation at the moment. We'll talk to guests who have to do with all of the above. And we'll talk about specific dealings with the store. If you have input you're welcome to contact us through email (redscroll@gmail.com). Oh, and please do subscribe! New episodes on the first of every month!
