A 17-year-old was found guilty of raping and killing an elderly woman in her home when he was only 14 years old. On Wednesday, June 29, Baltimore City State's Attorney Marilyn Mosby announced a jury found Tyrone Harvin guilty of first-degree murder, first-degree rape, and a dangerous weapon for the death of 83-year-old Dorothy Mae Neal. He faces a maximum sentence of life in prison plus three years. Mosby said there was "no winner in this case," which she called "unconscionable." Harvin was reportedly one of the youngest homicide defendants ever at just 14 years old. According to Baltimore Police, on Aug. 29, 2018, Neal's neighbor called police to conduct a welfare check because they had not seen her in several days. When officers made their way in her apartment, they found her unresponsive and "the victim of an apparent assault." Neal was taken to the University of Maryland Hospital for treatment, where she later died. WJZ-TV reports the two knew each other because Harvin helped Neal with chores. According to WBAL-TV, Harvin and Neal also lived next door to each other. Mosby said at the press conference, "Two people have lost their freedom in this case: one at the dawn of their life and one at the sunset of theirs." What can't be lost in all the political and legal analyses of this moment is the human toll of the decision.Doug Mills/The New York Times | By Lauren KelleySomething I've been wondering in the weeks since a draft decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization leaked to the press in May: If Roe v. Wade would indeed be overturned, as the draft suggested, would that moment still feel momentous? Or would the leak drain it of its shock value? As it turns out, there was plenty of shock left in all of us. Or let me speak for myself: I could not have been more prepared for this outcome, having followed the Dobbs case for months —  and having covered this issue for years. Still, I found it a profoundly humbling and moving moment, to see those words on my computer screen, that Roe v. Wade was gone. Expecting it was one thing. But experiencing it was another. At Times Opinion, we've spent the hours since Friday's decision reflecting on this seismic national event. “I still really feel like I've been punched in the stomach,” said Michelle Goldberg, an Opinion columnist, in a round table conversation hosted by Lulu Garcia-Navarro, the host of the “First Person” podcast. “It's good to see an opinion that undoes the injustice of Roe, but obviously we don't have a culture that fully supports women,” said Leah Libresco Sargeant, a pro-life writer who joined us in that discussion.https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2022/06/24/opinion/roundtable-roe-wade-abortion-dobbs.html?campaign_id=39&emc=edit_ty_20220625&instance_id=65037&nl=opinion-today®i_id=120822644&segment_id=96799&te=1&user_id=e09720d17c147c973296456b6968e752We've also spent the past day dissecting what the Dobbs decision could mean for the future, in many profound ways. The abortion-rights historian Mary Ziegler wrote about how the decision could alter American democracy as we know it, while Linda Greenhouse, who spent decades as a Supreme Court reporter for The Times, wrote a requiem for that institution. Aye lads and lasses, earlier today (June 22nd 2022 at the time of recording) the club released the following statement: "Sunderland AFC today announces that Kyril Louis-Dreyfus has increased his ownership stake in the Club to 51%.In parallel, Juan Sartori has increased his stake to 30%.Governance remains unchanged. The shares have been acquired through the purchase of shares held by Charlie Methven, who has sold all of his shares, and Stewart Donald, who has sold down his stake to 19%." Followed shortly by this statement from Kyril Louis-Dreyfus himself, alongside Juan Sartori: “Today marks an important step as we continue to rebuild Sunderland AFC. Following the 2021-22 season, it was the intention of Juan and I to ensure the ongoing speculation relating to the Club's shareholding was addressed as soon as possible. Our ownership group has been consolidated and there will be no further sale of shares to a third-party buyer. We remain committed to our strategy of delivering long-term success and sustainability and together, alongside our dedicated staff and loyal supporters, I believe we can now move forward as one unified football club.” So our Rich, Gav and Chris sat down to: discuss what all this means - speculate on what went on behind the scenes to get this deal sorted - wonder at the motivations of all parties - ponder Charlie Methven's legacy at the club and whether he'll actually let SAFC fans get the final word - revel in the increasingly silent aspect of former owner Stewart Donald's silent partnership and decreased shareholding - look at the lowering of risk, dependence and liability for the ownership group - generally share their feelings on the past few weeks/months/years of uncertainty, and look forward to Sunderland's immediate and long-term future without further ownership distraction. We'll be back soon with actual footy chat! Honest... Hawaaaaaaay the lads!#SAFC #EFLChampionship #KLD #EFL See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

One of the major problems our society faces today is the lack of accountability we hold each other too. We're too worried about hurt feelings to have the courage to hold each other accountable. In today's episode we're going to look at the murder of a police officer that highlights the extent to which evil can exploit this idea when we fail to hold each other accountable. This includes every level of society from parents to teachers to politicians and judges. I'll explain how a judge's lack of accountability caused a police officer to be murdered.    I would appreciate your support by visiting my other platforms like… https://linktr.ee/mwilley   My website: www.mikewilley.com  My YouTube Channel: www.youtube.com/channel/UCQEMBeZw6qFmFeS7hEESgiw My Instagram: www.instagram.com/mikewilley.photography  My email address: mike@mikewilley.com  Music and Sound is provided by: www.epidemicsound.com

Follow Aram Melkoumov on Linkedin for highlight clips and DMs.Ron runs a tight ship at Uplinq and he shares how and why he does so. This interview also explores why growing a startup for the sake of an exit is a bad strategy, why you should want to hold cash in this economy, how to hire people that make a genuine impact in your growth, and the difference between thoughtful scaling and so-called ‘aggressive' scaling.About Ron BenegbiRon is the founder and CEO of Uplinq. He is a 4 time tech founder with 2 exits and one flop. Being an immigrant who moved to Canada as a child with his family in the early 70s, he knows what it's like to start from nothing. As he puts it, he's not cut from the cloth of overspending. He's cut from the cloth of disciplined business operations and fiscal responsibility, and that's how he's currently running Uplinq.SHOW NOTES:00:00 | Who is Ron Benegbi?00:26 | His father getting a loan to start a business04:19 | Giving new business a shot at financing (Uplinq) 06:50 | Serving the underbanked (opportunity size)09:38 | Thoughtful scaling vs. aggressive scaling14:43 | Building a unicorn is a bad purpose16:48 | Should you take money from VCs or bootstrap?18:09 | Why hold on to cash in this market22:52 | Hiring people that 10X your revenue29:39 | Not hiding from failure 35:13 | Favourite thing about his co-founder36:22 | What would you do if your company went bankrupt? 36:52 | Becoming less reactive and more matureQUOTES:[11:50] “We're building a company, but we're trying to build a profitable company. So i'm not here to just raise money, and then, you know, hire 20 people and then burn cash and be in the same place six months from now. So we're here to, you know, build a product, do it right; hire in a very thoughtful programmatic way, but also give ourselves enough of a cash runway; while always having business milestones that we need to hit.”[12:49]  “It's not that I'm not in a rush. Believe me, I have a sense of urgency every moment of the day but that has to be balanced against a thoughtful pragmatic way to build a business.”[19:04] “I'm very very concerned about cash and cash runway. That's the number one reason all small businesses fail, regardless of whether they're VC funded or not intact or not. And especially now with the markets being what they are with the economy turning, we have to hold on to every penny we have until we can't anymore so that's how I look at it.”Connect with Ron Benegbi: https://www.linkedin.com/in/ronbenegbi/
