Most CEOs think compensation drives performance. What if it's quietly destroying EBITDA instead? Revenue growth can hide a lot of mistakes. Weak customer segmentation. Transactional selling. Pricing based on competition instead of value. Compensation plans that reward activity while leaking profit. The problem isn't usually effort. The problem is incentive alignment. When sales teams are compensated against the wrong metrics, companies often create more revenue while leaving cash flow, margins, and valuation behind. The damage compounds because growth makes the problem harder to see. The real exposure isn't whether a compensation plan is perfect. It's whether the plan creates behaviors that increase value—or embed costs that surface later when EBITDA, cash flow, or valuation come under scrutiny. Eric Wiklendt from Speyside Equity spends his time evaluating and improving manufacturing and distribution businesses between $50M and $500M in revenue. His perspective comes from seeing how operations, pricing, customer economics, and compensation influence enterprise value long before most CEOs recognize the connection. The faster you grow, the more dangerous complexity becomes. In this episode of The Level Up Podcast, Paul Alex breaks down one of the silent mistakes that kills business growth—making your offer too complicated. Because let's be real… If your customer has to work too hard to understand what you do… They are not buying. Too many entrepreneurs try to scale with: Too many offers Too many pricing options Too many custom packages Too many moving pieces Too many unclear systems And then they wonder why sales feel harder, fulfillment feels messy, and the team feels overwhelmed. In this episode, you'll learn: Why confused prospects almost always walk away How too many choices can destroy your conversions Why complexity creates lower margins, slower delivery, and more stress How simplifying your offer can create cleaner sales, better systems, and stronger profits Because real scale does not come from doing everything. It comes from doing the right thing extremely well. One clear customer. One painful problem. One powerful solution. One repeatable delivery system. That is how you create a business your team can actually run. That is how you remove confusion. That is how you build momentum. The simpler the offer… The stronger the business. A deadly shooting rocks a city in west Texas. The AP's Jennifer King reports.
In this solo episode, host Alex Pardo gives a candid update on Dan's journey to buy his first self-storage facility — a deal that had strong market demographics, favorable bank financing, and real value-add upside, until one buried spreadsheet assumption changed everything. This episode is a real-world lesson in self-storage underwriting, revenue ramp-up timelines, and what it actually costs to miss a detail in your deal filter. If you're working toward your first storage deal and want to understand how to stress-test your numbers before it's too late, this episode will save you from making the same costly mistake Dan made. You'll Learn How To: Understand why storage revenue doesn't move like a light switch after acquisition Identify the ramp-up period tab in your deal filter and how to use it correctly Calculate how many net move-ins per month is realistic for your market Stress-test your debt service coverage ratio before presenting a deal to a bank Negotiate from a shoulder-to-shoulder position with sellers when deals need restructuring Recognize when a deal that looks good on paper is missing a critical timeline assumption Surround yourself with a community that can catch what your spreadsheet can't What You'll Learn in This Episode [0:00] Dan's deal looked solid until one buried assumption flipped everything [0:32] Alex introduces Season 2 and Dan's journey from unemployed to first-time storage buyer [1:09] Why Dan wasn't excited when he finally got under contract — and what that reveals [1:45] Why celebrating each step matters even when you've been burned before [2:06] The market fundamentals Dan liked: demographics, income, population growth [2:31] The bank terms that made the deal attractive — 5.29% fixed for 5 years or 5.99% for 10 [3:05] A cautionary tale: a well-known investor who lost $15 million when rates adjusted on a $70M multifamily deal [4:13] Why Alex jumped on an impromptu Zoom to review Dan's underwriting spreadsheet [4:33] How Storage Wins community member Casey McKillop saved $100,000 on his first offer [6:02] The specific tab Dan wasn't reading correctly — net move-ins and the ramp-up period [7:07] The real issue: Dan assumed revenue would jump from $170K to $210K overnight [7:51] It would take Dan 10 months to reach profitability — and he wasn't prepared to fund it [8:09] The bank pulled out after reviewing the deal more closely [8:59] How to explain debt service coverage ratio (DSCR) to sellers and why 1.25–1.3 matters [10:14] The lesson: growth comes from adversity, and Dan won't make this mistake again Who This Episode Is For: First-time storage investors preparing to make their first offer Investors who have been under contract before and had deals fall through Anyone underwriting a value-add storage deal and projecting a quick revenue bump Buyers who haven't stress-tested their debt service coverage ratio Entrepreneurs who know the numbers but need a second set of eyes on their assumptions Storage investors trying to understand how ramp-up timelines affect deal viability Why You Should Listen: Dan's deal had everything going for it on the surface — strong demographics, committed bank financing, and a clear path to raising rents. But one overlooked tab in the deal filter spreadsheet showed that revenue wouldn't jump overnight. It would take ten months to reach profitability, and Dan hadn't budgeted for that gap. That single assumption blew up the DSCR, the bank walked, and a deal that looked ready to close came apart fast. This episode isn't about what went wrong. It's about what you can learn before it happens to you. Alex walks through the exact mistake — projecting revenue as a light switch rather than a ramp — and explains why having a community to stress-test your deal before you go under contract is worth more than almost anything else in this business. The most expensive education is experience. But it doesn't have to be yours. Dan learned this lesson so you don't have to. In this episode of the Prolonged Field Care Podcast, Dennis sits down with trauma surgeon Mark Shapiro for a no-BS masterclass on wound ballistics. They break down why understanding the physics of penetrating and blast trauma matters in austere and combat environments — even when experience makes you cynical. From high-velocity rifle rounds and their massive temporary cavities to the infectious nightmare of shotgun wounds and the four phases of blast injury, Mark shares hard-won lessons from civilian Level I trauma centers and years training special operations medics and ground surgical teams. They tackle the myths around entry/exit wounds, when (and when not) to explore right upper quadrant gunshot wounds downrange, why you should almost never pack the abdomen or chest from the outside, how to assess neurovascular status in blast-injured extremities, and why bizarre bullet paths and “stable” patients with signs of life can still surprise you.Key Takeaways:Kinetic energy (½mv²) means velocity is king — high-velocity rifle rounds create devastating temporary cavities and fragmentation that can turn one projectile into many.Jacketed rounds still fragment at rifle speeds; never assume a clean through-and-through. Bone fragments act like secondary missiles and can create wounds up to 3x the size of the fragment. For stable patients with right upper quadrant GSWs in resource-limited settings, expectant management can be reasonable — but you must have a plan, know your limits, and be ready to move if things change.Never pack the abdomen or chest from the outside in most cases. It risks pushing debris deeper and worsening injuries. Cover exposed organs if needed, but don't shove gauze into body cavities.Shotgun wounds (especially buckshot/birdshot) are “mobile IEDs” — massive tissue destruction, heavy debris inoculation, and extremely high risk of infection, fistula, and devascularized tissue requiring serial debridement. In extremity blast trauma, assess vascular status (pulses, Doppler signals, color, warmth, capillary refill) and neurologic function. The ~6-hour window to revascularization is critical, but the decision point comes earlier.Training + common sense + adaptability beat rigid protocols when resources are limited. Sometimes the best move is observation.Chapters04:15 – Why Wound Ballistics Knowledge Still Matters (even when you're cynical)08:30 – High-Energy Rifle Wounds: Muzzle Velocity, Kinetic Energy & Spitzer Bullets13:45 – Fragmentation, Tumbling & Secondary Missiles (bone shards & unpredictable paths)18:20 – Clinical Reality: Multiple Injuries & Why “Small Entrance, Big Exit” Is a Myth22:50 – Entry vs. Exit Wounds: When Trajectory Actually Matters (and when it doesn't)26:40 – Right Upper Quadrant GSWs: Explore, Observe, or Expectant Management Downrange?31:10 – The Dangers of Packing Abdominal & Chest Wounds from the Outside34:55 – Low-Energy Pistol Wounds: How They Differ (or Don't) from Rifles37:20 – Shotgun Wounds: Close-Range Carnage, Debris & Infectious Nightmares42:40 – IEDs & Modern Explosives: Blast Physics, Ukraine Patterns & Hard-Ground Effects48:15 – Primary, Secondary, Tertiary & Quaternary Blast Injuries Explained52:30 – Neurovascular Assessment in Blast-Injured Extremities (Conscious & Unconscious Patients)56:45 – Lessons from the Trauma Bay: Common Sense, Training & Knowing When to Deviate from ProtocolFor more content, go to www.prolongedfieldcare.orgConsider supporting us: patreon.com/ProlongedFieldCareCollective or www.lobocoffeeco.com/product-page/prolonged-field-care

Chantel Prat studies how different brains make sense of the world. Her work starts from a simple idea: every experience leaves a mark. The inputs we consume shape how we think, what we notice, and ultimately who we become. The conversation explores why people often choose familiar rewards over uncertain opportunities to learn. Chantel explains the tension between exploration and exploitation, why curiosity is essential for growth, and how fear can prevent us from engaging with new technologies like AI. They also discuss theory of mind, cognitive offloading, and what happens when we increasingly rely on AI for thinking. The goal is not simply to do better work, but to use AI in ways that help us become better versions of ourselves.Key Takeaways: Curiosity requires safety When people feel threatened, they become defensive rather than exploratory. Fear gets in the way of learning. Better inputs create better outputs Every experience leaves a footprint on the brain. The ideas, conversations, and information we consume shape how we think and who we become. We naturally favor certainty over exploration Our brains are biased toward familiar rewards, even when something new may offer greater long-term value. Curiosity starts with admitting you might be wrong Learning requires recognizing that you do not already have the answer. Without that openness, exploration never begins. Use AI to become better, not just produce more The most important question is not what AI can do for you, but what you still want to get better at yourself. Most people use moderation as a reason to keep doing what they are doing. Dr. Columbus Batiste says that is exactly the mindset that can have lasting health implications. In this episode of NHA Today, Dr. Stephan Esser sits down with Dr. Columbus Batiste, board-certified interventional cardiologist, author, and co-founder of Healthy Heart Nation. Known as the Healthy Heart Doc, Dr. Batiste has spent his career doing what most cardiologists do not: asking patients not just what they eat, but what they eat for their health - and then building a plan around what they actually want. His personal story is the backbone of this conversation. His father was health-conscious, ran a health food store, and juiced long before it was fashionable - but also loved sodasand sweets in moderation. He died from the effects of diabetes. Reading Caldwell Esselstyn's chapter titled Moderation Kills changed the course of Dr. Batiste's career. In this conversation you will learn:• Why moderation is a justification we only apply to things we know we should not be doing• The three most heart-protective food groups and why they work at the cellular level• How to talk to patients (or yourself) about food in a way that actually creates change• The SELFISH acronym: seven pillars of heart health from spirituality to humor• Why 80% of health outcomes happen outside the doctor's office• The role of stress, presence, and relationships in cardiovascular disease• Dr. Batiste's take on AI in medicine and what an elderly patient said that stopped him cold• What he is bringing to the NHA Annual Conference this June ---ABOUT DR. 19 year old Davion Flanagan's family and 20 year old Dominic Russo's family want to know what the hell happened that morning. How could 17 year old Mackenzie Shirilla drive her car straight into a brick building at 100 mph killing their two boys? How could she be the sole survivor? This is the case of Mackenzie Shirilla who used a high speed, intentional motor vehicle collision to end the lives of her longterm boyfriend Dominic Russo and his friend/roommate at the time, Davion Flanagan. After the release of Netflix's documentary, 'The Crash,' interest surrounding the case grew but audiences were left with more questions about the fuller picture. Naturally, we FOIA requested this case to the authorities and received: Over 4 thousand videos. Over 4 thousand photos. Around 31 thousand pages of text messages. Around 92 thousand text messages between just Mackenzie and Dominic. Close to 800 text messages between Mackenzie and her father, Steve Shirilla. Close to 2 thousand text messages between Mackenzie and her close friends. As well as 2 thousand pages of Instagram DMs. 2 entire phone data extraction files with hundreds of personal videos, photos, and audio messages. And 97 jail calls from Mackenzie post-conviction. We have gone through all of it and we're here to break it down for you. Full show notes available at RottenMangoPodcast.com Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. Jon Herold comes in Monday on a show that keeps circling back to the same unresolved problem: the people who benefit from election fraud are not going to fix election fraud, and nobody on the side that wants to fix it has an answer for how to make that happen anyway. Spencer Pratt is being slowly bumped from the LA mayoral runoff, a former CIA officer's thread explains exactly how it is done and why it leaves no fingerprints, and Jon asks the question that has no clean answer: what do you actually do when you can prove the fraud but the system has no mechanism to correct itself? Trump's appointment of Pulte as acting DNI inadvertently killed the FISA 702 reauthorization, and Jon reads that as entirely intentional. NSPM 11 on AI and national security dropped over the weekend, and buried in it is confirmation of two classified NSPMs numbered 9 and 10 that nobody knew existed. The Antares micro reactor hit first criticality under Trump's 2025 nuclear executive order, becoming the first privately developed non-light water reactor to reach the milestone in 40 years. The Iran-Israel missile exchange is described as behind us for now, DOGE.gov is back up with still no savings counter update, and Jon has strong feelings about the Department of War maintaining an official list of approved religions.

Most people buying a mobile home in California go through the manufactured home park approval process and never saw it coming. They got approved by the lender. They had the down payment. And then the park said no.There are a lot of moving parts to mobile home financing California buyers almost always underestimate. The interest rates are higher than a traditional loan. The terms are shorter. Space rent counts against your debt-to-income ratio. And there are two completely separate approvals you have to pass, one with the lender and one with the park itself. Most buyers only know about one of them.In this episode, I brought back Michael Yates to break down exactly how manufactured home loans in California work, what the real requirements are, and what can quietly kill your deal before you even know it's in trouble. Here is what we cover:✅ Why the manufactured home park approval can reject you even after your lender says yes✅ The June 15, 1976 cutoff date that changes everything about your manufactured home down payment✅ How manufactured home interest rates compare to traditional loans and what to expect✅ What space rent on a mobile home actually is and why it affects your loan qualification✅ How to get as little as 5% down with no PMI on a mobile home on lease land✅ Whether FHA, VA, or conventional loans work for these properties (the answer will surprise you)✅ What documents you need and how manufactured home loan requirements differ from a standard mortgage✅ Why buying in cash does not mean you skip the park approval, this one catches people off guardIf you are seriously looking at a manufactured home as an affordable option to stay in California, keep that in mind before you fall in love with a unit. Know the rules first. This episode gives you all of them.

The threat of tainted food, whether by chemicals or through genetic manipulation, is a cause that arouses outrage at a pitch few other causes will ever muster. The threat of a shadowy corporation with its fingers buried in the heart of our food supply only heightens this outrage, and Monsanto's heavy-handed efforts at control have done nothing to soften its public image. On this episode of Ground Zero, Clyde Lewis talks with food activist Amber King about MONSANTO: BITING THE FOOD THAT KILLS. The original broadcast aired on March 16, 2016.
5.29.2026 #RolandMartinUnfiltered: La. GOP Kills Black District. Cleo Fields Fights Back. Karmelo Anthony Trial Looms_For free and unbiased Medicare help, dial (724) 264-8281 to speak with my trusted partner, Chapter, or go to https://askchapter.org/roland *Paid Partnership*_ Louisiana Republicans approved a new congressional map that eliminated one of the state's two majority-Black districts and drew an additional Republican-leaning district in its place. That majority-Black district is currently represented by Congressman Cleo Fields, who'll join us tonight. A federal judge ruled that the twice-impeached, criminally convicted felon-in-chief, Donald "The Con" Trump, could not rename or close the Kennedy Center, finding that the board violated clear legal guidelines. Another federal judge blocked payouts from the Trump administration's "Anti-Weaponization Fund." A Black Texas teen's trial for murder begins on Monday. We'll preview the case of The State of Texas vs. Karmelo Sincere Anthony, the Black teen who stabbed a white teen at a track meet in April 2025. And we'll show you some white folks who love to fuck around and find out when messing around with Black folks who are just trying to live. CALLBACKS AND COMEBACKS. TV critic Diana Keng reviewed Star Trek: Lower Decks through its first four seasons and jumps back in to reviewing season five right here on this week's Trek Marry Kill. The two episodes being judged embody some classic TV tropes: the backdoor pilot episode and the new young character inserted late in a show's run to show how far our characters have come. But are these TREKs, MARRYs, or KILLs? Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Step into Episode 214 of On The Delo as Delo sits down with Jeremiah, Air Force veteran, mortgage broker, and multi-unit franchisee of Jeremiah's Italian Ice, for a candid conversation about building multiple businesses, staying grounded through discipline, and why family-focused frozen treats are a surprisingly powerful vehicle for entrepreneurship. From opening his first location next to Corona del Sol High School in Chandler to expanding with a drive-through near Cardinal Stadium in Glendale, Jeremiah brings real talk on what it takes to run two companies at once without letting either one fall apart. The conversation covers Jeremiah's remarkable origin story — born in Guyana, raised in Brooklyn, trained as an Air Force veteran, and pivoting from aviation to mortgages to franchising — and why he's never once thought about retiring. Delo and Jeremiah go deep on the parallels between brokering mortgages and brokering insurance, the importance of systems and high-trust relationships with your team, and why "autopilot culture" is the fastest route to a failing business. You'll also hear about Delo's new book Risky Business: The Arizona Liquor Liability and Insurance Survival Guide, the power of waking up at 4:35 AM, the joy of watching anxious teenagers build confidence scooping gelati, and why authentic person-to-person connection beats transactional business every single time.Chapter Guide (Timestamps):(0:00 - 1:26) Welcome, Delo's New Book Risky Business & Intro to Jeremiah(1:27 - 3:50) Queen Creek Growth, Arizona Roots & Origin Story(3:51 - 5:57) From Guyana to Brooklyn to the Air Force & Valley Living(5:58 - 8:12) Mortgage Brokering, Desert State Mortgage & The Broker Parallel(8:13 - 11:26) Discovering Jeremiah's Italian Ice & Opening the First Chandler Location(11:27 - 14:22) Youth Employment, Anxiety, Confidence Building & The Value of In-Person Work(14:23 - 17:07) The Jeremiah's Brand Story: Florida Roots, First Franchise in Arizona & 200 Locations(17:08 - 20:57) Family-Focused Model, Gelati, Drive-Throughs & What Makes Italian Ice Different(20:58 - 24:06) Managing Two Businesses, Daily Routine & Building a High-Trust Team(24:07 - 28:20) Health, Fitness, Prayer & Serving Mom: Staying Grounded Across It All(28:21 - 31:41) Franchising Advice: Know the Day-to-Day, Systems, and Work Ethic Required(31:47 - 38:38) Rapid Fire: Aliens, Tacos, Pull-Ups, AC/DC & Cheesecake Italian Ice
