Is marriage just a legal contract, or is it something far more sacred? The Book of Malachi gives one of the clearest and most direct answers in all of Scripture, and its message is just as relevant today as it was thousands of years ago. God designed marriage from the very beginning as a covenant between one man and one woman for life. It is not simply a courthouse document. It is a sacred promise made before God, with God Himself as witness. Malachi 2:14 makes this unmistakably clear, reminding us that God has been a witness between a husband and the wife of his youth. In this message from Malachi chapter two, we explore what God actually says about marriage, faithfulness, divorce, and how to protect your relationship. Topics covered include: • What the Bible says about God's design for marriage • Why marriage is a covenant and not just a contract • What faithfulness in marriage really looks like • Why God hates divorce and what that means for us today • Common cultural excuses for divorce and why they fall short of Scripture • Practical steps to guard and strengthen your marriage • The connection between a healthy home and a healthy relationship with God Whether you are married, engaged, single, or somewhere in between, this message speaks directly to how God views the covenant of marriage and what He expects from those who enter into it. God does not hate divorced people. He loves people deeply. But He does hate divorce, and understanding the difference matters. His standard has not changed, and neither has His grace for those who are willing to take the covenant seriously. If you have been asking questions like: What does the Bible say about marriage? Does God really hate divorce? How do I protect my marriage? or What is a biblical marriage? this message is for you.

MY Devotional: Daily Encouragement from Leading The Way

Fire in the fireplace is warm, beautiful, and life-giving—but fire in the wrong place becomes destructive. In today's episode of the MY Devotional Podcast, Dr. Michael Youssef uses this picture to explain God's design for sexual intimacy: a good and holy gift to be enjoyed within the covenant of marriage. Paul reminds believers in 1 Corinthians that our bodies are not our own. We have been bought with the blood of Jesus Christ, set apart for God, and called to honor Him with our whole being. This means what we do with our bodies matters deeply to the Lord. Dr. Youssef turns to Paul's teaching in 1 Corinthians 7, where the apostle addressed a culture filled with sexual confusion, broken vows, distorted views of marriage, and false ideas about spirituality. Against that backdrop, Paul pointed back to God's wisdom from Genesis: man and woman were created to complement one another physically, emotionally, and spiritually in marriage. Within God's design, sexual intimacy is not shameful—it is a holy expression of covenant love, companionship, partnership, and selfless service between husband and wife. This devotional calls believers to reject the world's confusion, honor the Lord with their bodies, and receive God's good gifts according to His Word and His glory. Prayer: Lord, may I use my body in the way You have intended. Help me set it apart for Your will so that it might be a source of blessing. I pray in the name of Jesus. Amen.  “The husband should fulfill his marital duty to his wife, and likewise the wife to her husband” (1 Corinthians 7:3). Learn more in Dr. Michael A. Youssef's sermon Healthy Living in a Sick World, Honor God with Your Body: LISTEN NOW | WATCH NOW The voice you hear on the MY Devotional podcast is digitally generated with Dr. Youssef's permission. If today's devotional stirred a question, burden, or need for prayer, you don't have to walk through it alone.

Dear Divorcees: Why God Hates Divorce, Trump's Failures & the Unnecessary Iran War

Today on Uncommon Sense with Ginny Robinson, I'm addressing the divorcee community and I'm going straight to the Bible. Why does God say He hates divorce? What does Scripture actually teach about marriage, covenant, divorce, and the responsibilities of husbands and wives? And why have divorce rates become so incredibly high, particularly as wives increasingly initiate divorce over reasons that, from a biblical perspective, are trivial, selfish, or completely unbiblical? This is not a message designed to just shame people who have experienced divorce. It is a challenge to the culture that has normalized abandoning marriage whenever things become difficult, inconvenient, or uncomfortable. We need to be willing to distinguish between legitimate biblical grounds for divorce and the endless list of modern excuses we've created to justify walking away from a sacred covenant. And that's not all we're discussing.I'm also talking about Donald Trump's continued failures, the gap between political promises and political reality, and why Americans should be questioning the decisions being made in our name.Plus, we're talking about the Iran War and why I believe this conflict is unnecessary and why Americans should be asking whether another foreign war actually serves the interests of the United States.Marriage. Divorce. Biblical truth. Trump. Iran. War. Political accountability.I'm saying what I believe needs to be said, even when it isn't popular (as usual).--https://www.youversion.com/bible-app

In this message, Samuel Goulet unpacks the meaning and weight of covenant—first between God and His people, then within marriage and the church community. Drawing from both Old and New Testament language, he explains that covenant is not casual agreement but a sacred commitment initiated by God and fulfilled through Jesus. Samuel challenges listeners to let that covenant shape how they follow Christ, forgive others, love sacrificially, and build marriages marked by holiness, humility, prayer, and enduring commitment.

In this message, Pastor Karl walks through Matthew 19, where the Pharisees approach Jesus with pointed questions about divorce — testing him against the competing rabbinic schools of Shammai and Hillel. Rather than settling the debate on their terms, Jesus redirects them to God's original design for marriage from Genesis, addressing not just the surface question but the deeper issue underneath it: a hardened heart that looks for loopholes instead of surrendering to God's standard.Pastor Karl unpacks what Scripture teaches about marriage, divorce, and remarriage with pastoral care and honesty about how difficult these teachings can be to live out. He also explores the chapter's turn toward children, and the story of the rich young ruler — a man who came asking about religious righteousness but was really wrestling with money and control. The big idea: Jesus confronts the hardness of our hearts because his kingdom calls for commitment and sacrifice, while our natural tendency is to search for loopholes and excuses. This message is an invitation to let Scripture rebuke, correct, and train us — and to rely on the power of God's Spirit rather than our own willpower to live faithfully.Join us in person 8:00am, 9:30am & 11:00am every Sunday morning.37193 Ave 12 #3h, Madera, CA 93636For more visit us at flipside.churchFor more podcasts visit flipsidepodcasts.transistor.fm

Picking up at Malachi 2:13, Peter Leithart, Jeff Meyers, Alastair Roberts, and James Bejon turn to Yahweh's second charge against Judah in this section: the treacherous dismissal of the wives of their youth. The conversation traces the double register of the passage (the covenant of individual marriage and Yahweh's own bridal relationship with Israel and his sanctuary) and asks whether the same typological layering found in verses 10–12 continues here. Considerable attention falls on the notoriously difficult verse 15, with James Bejon guiding the group through the Hebrew: the one father who makes husband and wife one, the remnant of the spirit, and the seeking of godly (zera' Elohim) seed. The discussion moves into the imagery of the garment covered in violence in verse 16, and closes with a debate over the ESV's departure from the traditional "I hate divorce" rendering — the group lands in agreement that the third-person reading ("the man who hates and divorces") is both textually defensible and theologically clarifying. Marriage is a sacred covenant before God, requiring both spouses to die to self and become one. Just as covenants in Scripture required sacrifice to become effective, the marriage covenant requires both spouses to give up their independence, past lives, and bodily autonomy in service to one another. Violating this covenant—particularly through adultery or neglecting marital duties—brings spiritual consequences. Even when a marriage begins without God's direction, it must still be honored because God holds us accountable to the promises we make to our spouse. The authority of this covenant is why divorce is not an option and why faithfulness and sacrificial love are non-negotiable. As believers under the New Covenant, we are called back to God's original design: one man, one woman, for life. __________ Malachi 2:13–14 NIV, Proverbs 2:16–17 NIV, Exodus 20:14 NIV, Matthew 5:27–28 NIV, 1 Corinthians 6:9 NIV, Psalm 50:5 NIV, Genesis 15:7–10,17–18 NLT, Hebrews 9:15–19 NLT, Genesis 2:21–24 NLT, Matthew 19:4–6 MSG, Genesis 1:27 KJV, Exodus 19:5 NLT, Exodus 21:10–11 NIV, 1 Corinthians 7:3–5 NIV, Joshua 9:14–20 NIV, Joshua 10:6–14 NIV, Matthew 19:4–9 NIV __________ Partner with Us: https://churchforentrepreneurs.com/partner Connect with Us: https://churchforentrepreneurs.com Leave a Comment: https://churchforentrepreneurs.com/comments __________

Malachi is used to show that Israel returned from exile but drifted back into self-focused living, especially the priests who should've led people to honor God. The passage highlights two connected sins—marrying into idolatry and then divorcing their covenant wives to do it—saying this “treachery” breaks God's design for a holy people, harms families, and even makes their worship unacceptable because God cares deeply how they treat their spouses and keep their marriage covenant. Matthew 5:31-32 - In His third case study, Jesus naturally turns from adultery and lust to marriage and divorce. Jesus's short statement highlights and answers one of the chief debates of His day: who or what is a marriage for? And how is it most wounded? In this passage we find Jesus's kingdom once again to be a place that champions the sanctity of marriage, in general, and the dignity of women, in particular. A sermon by Cameron Heger. If you're single, how have you worked to cultivate health in your own singleness?

I greet you in Jesus' precious name! It is Wednesday morning, the 13th August, 2025, and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today. We start in Psalm 20:7: ”Some trust in chariots, and some in horses; but we will remember the name of the Lord our God.” Our faithful God who keeps His promises! Then we go to Genesis 40:23. Remember, Joseph had interpreted the dreams of the butler and yet the chief butler did not remember Joseph but forgot him. Joseph said to him,“When you meet with Pharaoh and you find favour with Pharaoh, don't forget to put in a good word for me.” And he forgot. How often have we been in that situation? Who do you and I put our trust in? Who can you trust today? You can't even trust yourself, can you? We need to remember to keep our promises.I want to start with a Marriage Covenant. Husbands, you made a promise on the day that you got married that you would be faithful to your wife, and I want to say to that young lady, you made a promise on the day of your wedding that you would remain faithful to your husband. It is a Marriage Covenant. We need to keep it.What about appointments? You know, some people make a joke of it. They say, ”Oh, he's always late.” I want to say to you it's just as easy to be early as it is to be late. In fact, when you are late, you are showing that person you don't really value them, otherwise you would be on time. You see, the Master was never early, He was never late, He was always on time.If you go to the Gospel of John 11:32, you see Mary was so upset because her brother had died, and they had waited for Jesus to come and He came four days later. She said in verse 32: “Lord, if You had been here, my brother would not have died.” But of course we know the end story. Jesus raised Lazarus from the dead. Please today, if you make your child a promise - you say, ”Son, I'm coming to watch you play your sports match today,” you better be there. “No, but maybe there'll be something else.” If you made the promise, keep it, because If you let him down, you let her down, they won't forget that in a hurry. If you are trying to influence a young lady, young man, don't be late for your appointment. Be early, and don't forget to bring a bunch of roses with you when you take her out.Jesus bless you and keep your promise, Goodbye.

Today it's not uncommon to hear the term "sexual revolution" applied to the dramatic changes our society is undergoing in its thinking about sexual behaviors. Those who use this term assume that a new view of sex is emerging out of the uninformed bigotry of our cultural past. But that's not what's happening at all. The only real sexual revolution in human history has been produced by the Bible. What's happening in America and Europe is that many are simply returning to the primitive sexual behaviors that dominated the ancient world before the Bible arrived. Infidelity and promiscuity were actually sanctioned and practiced by the official religions of the rest of ancient near east (TWOT. Vol 2, pp 542-543). Sacred prostitution (male and female) (Dt 23:1), regular prostitution (Lv 19:29), homosexuality (Lv 18:22), bestiality (Ex 22:19; Dt 27:21), and transvestitism (Dt 22:5) were common in the ancient world. So as we turn to the seventh commandment, we encounter a radically new way of thinking about sex. The idea that it should only be between a man and a woman and that it should only take place after a lifelong commitment has been made is so unnatural to human thinking it could only have come from God. Again, like the sixth commandment, He required only two words to say bluntly, "No adultery!" To understand this commandment we will first define the term "adultery," then reflect on the nature of the marriage covenant and finally we'll consider seven attitudes essential if we are to succeed in obeying it. Divorce is not just a personal decision, it's actually a spiritual health crisis. And it's unfortunately rampant in society today. In this episode, I'm calling it what it really is: sin. God literally says in Scripture, “I hate divorce” (Malachi 2:16), yet our culture treats it like a self-care strategy. Christians are increasingly justifying what the Bible clearly condemns. Let's be clear: marriage is a covenant and walking away from it without biblical grounds is rebellion against God.Even with biblical grounds to divorce (such as in cases of abandonment or sexual immorality) God still prefers there be genuine repentance and genuine forgiveness. Meaning, no matter how "bad" it allegedly gets, God still suggests true apologies and true absolution. He wants that instead of bitterness and separation. Also, everyone seems to conveniently be forgetting about how divorce impacts the children. That is very wicked to not consider how it affects them.People have come at me with rudeness, bitterness, and every excuse under the sun as to why they "had to" get divorced, but none of that will stop me from speaking the truth. You did not "have to" get divorced. Not most of you. I'm not here to please people. I'm here to honor God and uphold what His Word says, even when it's uncomfortable or "comes off mean." Unfriendly reminder: I win every single battle and every single war because I fight on the side of righteousness, and you probably don't. Tune in as we break down the lies, the "justifications" and the tragic consequences of treating divorce like an option instead of the absolute last resort.Marriage is a holy covenant between one man, one woman, and God.Hope this helps!--https://policecoffee.com/collections/coffee

Bible Discussion: Marriage is a sacred covenant before God, requiring both spouses to die to self and become one.
