The chapter begins with the appearance of a "strong angel" or "mighty angel," whom Zumpano ultimately identifies as Jesus Christ in the form of the Holy Spirit (the "angel of the Lord") due to the angel's association with a cloud (the Shekinah glory) and his physical description matching that of Jesus in Revelation 1. This angel stands with one foot on the sea and one on the land, proclaiming that there will be "delay no longer" in the revelation of the "mystery of God" (Verse 7) when the Seventh Trumpet sounds. This mystery, subject to scholarly debate, is believed by Zumpano to be the long-unanswered question of why God permitted sin and Satan's entry into the world. The second major event is John's instruction to take an "open little book" from the angel's hand and "eat it," which signifies receiving prophetic knowledge. John experiences sweetness in his mouth (the revelation of the Messiah's coming and Jewish redemption) but bitterness in his stomach (the coming great suffering of the Jews during the Tribulation). The book also instructs John to prophesy again, indicating its relevance to his personal ministry. Following this, Revelation 11introduces the next event: the command to measure the rebuilt Temple in Jerusalem, excluding the outer court which is still under Gentile (Muslim) control (Dome of the Rock) on Mount Mariah. This reconstruction is the final major prophecy needing fulfillment before Christ's return, as it sets the stage for the Antichrist's desecration ("abomination of desolation"). This entire sequence of events signifies that human history is coming to an end, to be replaced by God's history (theocracy). Chapter 11 then introduces the Two Witnesses—Jesus's "my witnesses"—who will prophesy in sackcloth for 1,260 days before being killed by the Beast and resurrected.
Revelation 10 presents a powerful vision of divine judgment and divine mercy, centered on a mighty angel whose appearance—clothed in a cloud, crowned with a rainbow, and radiating celestial glory—signifies God's sovereign authority over creation. This angel, swearing by the eternal Creator, declares that time will no longer be delayed, marking the imminent fulfillment of God's redemptive plan and the final unfolding of His mystery through the prophets. The prophet John is commanded to consume a little book symbolizing the Word of God—sweet to the believer's soul yet bitter in its prophetic weight, reflecting the dual nature of divine truth: joy in salvation and sorrow over the fate of the lost. This experience compels a prophetic mission to proclaim God's message to all peoples, nations, and rulers, calling believers to live in holy readiness. The passage concludes with a sobering call to vigilance, rooted in God's longsuffering, which is not delay but grace meant to lead sinners to repentance, urging all to grow in grace and prepare for Christ's return, when heaven and earth will be dissolved and a new creation will dawn.

In this profound exploration of Revelation chapter 10, we encounter a divine pause in the midst of apocalyptic judgment—a moment that reveals God's incredible mercy even in wrath. Despite witnessing devastating plagues, demonic armies, and death on an unprecedented scale, humanity still refuses to repent. Yet God, in His compassion, provides another interlude, another opportunity for hearts to turn toward Him. We meet a mighty angel bearing a little book, standing with authority over sea and land, whose voice roars like a lion and summons seven thunders—mysteries that remain sealed even to us. The most striking moment comes when John is commanded to eat this book, experiencing both its sweetness and bitterness. The sweetness represents God's faithful promises and His ultimate victory, while the bitterness reflects the sobering reality of judgment upon those who reject Him. This dual experience should resonate deeply with us today: we rejoice in God's Word and His coming kingdom, yet our hearts should ache for those who remain lost. The passage reminds us that we live in a season of grace, a time when God's patience extends to allow more people to come to repentance. The question becomes urgent: are we taking advantage of this moment? Are we sharing the gospel with those around us? The mighty angel's declaration that there will be 'delay no longer' echoes as a warning that God's patience, though long-suffering, has limits. We must recognize the voices speaking into our lives, discern God's true Word from counterfeits, and respond with immediate obedience like John did.
The passage in Revelation 10 presents a powerful interlude within the unfolding judgments of the tribulation, introducing a mighty angel whose appearance and actions underscore divine authority and the imminent fulfillment of God's redemptive plan. Though the angel bears a striking resemblance to Christ's post-resurrection glory in Revelation 1, the text distinguishes him as a created being—another of the same kind, not the Lord—based on linguistic precision, theological distinctions in Hebrews, and the angel's oath to the eternal Creator, which would be self-contradictory if he were Christ. The angel's role in delivering a prophetic message, symbolized by the sweet yet bitter book, signifies the dual nature of divine truth: its delight to the soul and its weight of judgment. This moment serves as a pivotal transition into the final phase of God's judgment, affirming that Christ's ultimate victory and the completion of His mystery are certain, even amid escalating tribulation, and calling believers to faithful proclamation in the face of divine judgment.
In this sermon by Chris Romig, the focus is on Revelation chapter 10 and the "bittersweetness" of God's Word and Christian life as God's final judgments and promises unfold. Romig opens with a prayer for understanding and emphasizes the structure of Revelation: waves of judgments (seals, trumpets, bowls) interrupted by reflective pauses, with chapter 10 marking the longest interlude before the end. Romig highlights the vision of a mighty angel with an open scroll, symbolizing God's ownership over creation and the imminent fulfillment of His plan—there will be "no more delay." The concept of "mystery" in Scripture is clarified as something that will soon be revealed, especially the good news of Christ's return and the final setting right of the world. John is told to eat the scroll, echoing Old Testament prophets, which Romig interprets as internalizing God's Word—letting it transform one's life. The scroll tastes sweet, representing the joy found in God's promises, but turns bitter, reflecting the sorrow and burden of judgment and the consequences of sin. Romig urges believers to embrace both the sweetness and the bitterness of faith: to enjoy God's grace while feeling a deeper compassion and concern for those far from God. He closes by encouraging Christians to let God's Word shape them into bold witnesses, living with urgency and hope as they await God's final restoration.

Welcome to the Unchanging Word Bible Broadcast. Our study now moves into Revelation chapter 10. Dr. John G. Mitchell will be speaking on verses 1 thru 10.Dr. Mitchell walks us through these verses describing the extent of the destruction of the future known world of the people on earth, the earth dwellers."The secret things belong to the Lord, but the things revealed belong to us and to our sons that we may do them." Deuteronomy 29:29.Here John heard the revealed 7 thunders say something, but God told him not to write what they said, they were to hidden. So no one but God, the 7 thunders and John know what was spoken. Our Bible is the Divinely revealed and inspired Word of God and we can know what God has revealed about Himself, about Jesus Christ His Son and His finished work of salvation. He also made know us what we should believe and how we should live in His Word. Also, in these verses the Apostle John is given a small scroll by an angel and told to eat it. e.g. he is to thoroughly digest what it says and to proclaim it even though it is hard to bear.Let's open our Bible to Revelation 10:1 with our teacher, Dr. Mitchell.
In the interlude between the 6th and 7th trumpets, John sees a mighty angel and is commissioned to be God's true prophet. The church of AD 95 and today learn the importance of cultivating the spiritual discipline of discernment. That is, we must discern between the actual message and the false message; between the true Word of God and false prophets; between wisdom and foolishness. Revelation 10 gives us keys to cultivating a life of discernment.
