Paul shares his concerns with the Galatians over adding things to the Gospel such as works and performance. In so doing the Galatian church began to nullify the work of Christ "for if righteousness were through the law then Christ died for no purpose.

In Chapter 2 of Galatians, Paul makes clear that "... we know that a person is justified not by the works of the law but through faith in Jesus Christ" and the reason behind his claim is "... for if justification comes through the law, then Christ died for nothing." Paul reasons that Torah-obedience is not to be required of Gentiles who seek to be followers of Jesus and his embrace of the Gentile community requires an end to their exclusion based on a precondition of such Torah obedience. Prevenient grace acts before an individual makes any change in behavior and so any precondition of change denies the grace of God.

This morning we continue through our study in Galatians. Today, we look at chapter 2 and Paul's cautions about ways that people seek to earn God's favor. Paul is continually wanting to teach his hearers about their salvation...that is has nothing to do with things that they have done, but rather their salvation is due to the faith that God has granted them. Be blessed and enjoy as you listen and study with us.
