Hutchinson First Baptist Church
This morning we are wrapping up our Winter Sermon Series: Abundant Living, here at FBC. As you listen today, we are looking at the passage right after the fruit of the Spirit are listed as Paul reminds us that against the things of the Spirit, 'there is no law'...there is no condemnation for those who practice such things. For those who exhibit the love of Christ, the joy of Christ, the peace of Christ, the patience of Christ, his kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control, the law does not bring condemnation...rather these things, and Christ working in us are fulfillment of the law in us. God bless you as you stud with us today. Come join us next Sunday.
This morning is our 2nd to last sermon in our Winter Sermon Series: Abundant Living. We are visiting the last of the fruit of the Spirit, found in Galatians 5, and talking about 'self-control'. This last fruit is one of the most crucial, simply because it addresses the idea of what/who it is that controls us. Scripture speaks of us being slaves to sin, or slaves to righteousness; and if we are slaves to righteousness we will exhibit a Spirit filled, Spirit driven, and Spirit controlled life that shows moderation and temperance in all that we do. Enjoy and be blessed as we discuss and study together.
This morning we are continuing in our Winter Series. As we near the end of this series, the last 2 of the fruit of the Spirit speak the the way that we interact with other people. Paul reminds us in Philippians 4 that we have a need as Christians, to approach life and other people with a gentle spirit. Christians have the ability to reflect the gentleness of Christ in the ways that we interact with other people. Enjoy and be bless as you listen and study with us.
This morning we are joined by Russell and Cliff Willms, as they share their report of the work they have been doing in Uganda over the last few years. Russell is a member of FBC and has gone on the last few trips with his brother, Cliff. Cliff works with the Navigators and works intentionally with young men and women in mentorship programs and have been working on discipline young people into Godly men and women who love their families and serve their church. Enjoy and be blessed as you listen to them speak about the work that is being done in the country of Uganda.
This morning we are continuing in our Winter Sermon Series: "Abundant Living" and studying together about the concept of faithfulness and what it means to be faithful in God's eyes. We are very privileged to have a retired pastor in our congregation and this morning he is bringing the Word at First Baptist!
This morning as we go through Part 6 of our Winter Sermon Series: Abundant Living, we are looking now at what Paul means when he says that one fruit of the Spirit of God is the fruit of goodness. We will be exploring what it means to be good by God's standard and how we can follow the example of Jesus goodness toward us and everyone else. God bless you as you study today and may He continue to lead you into all truth.
This morning we are continuing in our Winter Sermon Series: Abundant Living, and studying about the kindness that Jesus calls us to. We know that God shows benevolent kindness to us in salvation, but this morning we learn that God intends that His kindness toward us is to spur us on to kindness toward others. Be blessed as you listen and study with us!
As we continue in our Winter Sermon Series 'Abundant Living', we are now looking at the fruit that Paul calls patience. Patience is something that people of today's world lack to great degrees. From the meals we order at restaurants to the roads we drive on, patience is something that visibly is missing among most people. This morning we are looking at the patience that the Christian is called to in light of his/her salvation! I hope you will be blessed as you study with us and that you will be encouraged!
This morning we are looking at the next fruit of the Spirit: peace. We all know that people long to live peaceful/peaceable lives. We long for peace in life. And yet we struggle to find it. Jesus declares that he came to give us a peace, not a peace that the world gives, but HIS peace. Join us as we study what this peace looks like and how Christians can live in light of it. Be blessed as you study with us.
This morning we are continuing in our 'Abundant Living' series and studying together about the joy that Christ intended Believers life with. We live in a world that seems to lack joy in most instances, or at least searches for joy in 'improved circumstances'...we learn from the example of David and Paul both that joy is not found in our circumstance, rather joy is found in our standing with God. Be blessed as you listen and study with us!
This morning we embark on our Winter Sermon Series - "Abundant Living" and in doing so we will be studying what Jesus means when he tells us that he came to 'give life, and give it abundantly'. We start by looking at what it means to be abundantly loving. God shows us through Galatians, that the Christian life and the things that the Spirit brings to the Christian are summed up in Galatians 5, and as such we will study each of those fruit and how we can live them to the fullest. Be blessed as you listen and study with us.
This morning we are embarking on a new journey together. We are studying today the reality that for all who have been saved, that is all who have placed their trust in Christ, we proclaim that we have been given the Spirit of God. And as the recipients of that Spirit, we are told by Jesus that he came to give us life abundant. Our new series will walk us through what that abundance is, and what it means to live abundantly as a Christian. Be blessed as you listen and check back next week for the first sermon in the series.
This morning we are taking a moment to look at the Psalms together, and see David's calling to us to worship God, and to give him thanks. Through this we will investigate how David was able to give thanks in all circumstances, and how we can be expected to give thanks during good times and bad times alike. Enjoy and be blessed as we study together!
This morning we are studying Ezra chapter 4, and learning about the persecution that the Israelites were facing from their neighbors. We learn from the Israelites about what it means to be faithful in the midst of persecution, and the midst of being despised by the world and by society. Christians today are in much the same boat and it is becoming increasingly so. Enjoy and be blessed as we study together about what it means to be faithful to God's commands and trust him in an increasingly divisive culture.
This morning, we are continuing through the book of Galatians and as we do so, we turn our eyes toward Paul's teaching about how we are saved and how we are sanctified. Perhaps today, as was the case then, we focus too much on what we contribute to our salvation, and we don't spend enough time resting in the truth of what God does in saving us. Today, we have gathered to reflect on this truth, but more than that, to REST in it!
This morning we continue through our study in Galatians. Today, we look at chapter 2 and Paul's cautions about ways that people seek to earn God's favor. Paul is continually wanting to teach his hearers about their salvation...that is has nothing to do with things that they have done, but rather their salvation is due to the faith that God has granted them. Be blessed and enjoy as you listen and study with us.
Today we continue in our study through Galatians, and we follow Paul's defense of the Gospel he preaches, and his conversion. From this text we learn about Paul's conversion and in turn the conversion that God brings into our lives. Be blessed and enjoy as you listen and study with us!
This morning we are continuing in our study through Galatians and looking now and Paul's perspective on whom he should be concerned about. For most Christians today, the fear of other people and what they might think of us, or worse yet, do to us, is a driving force behind things we do or do not do. Paul shows us the importance of remembering who we truly answer to and who we should be considering when we think about doing certain things. Be blessed this morning as you listen and study with us.
Today, we are continuing through Galatians, and we are going to study, how Paul focuses on the message of the false teachers. False teaching has been around in the life of the church for sometime, and still continues to be an issue in the church. Paul gives us great insight into how we can discern truth from false in a modern age. God bless and enjoy!
This morning we are continuing in our study through Galatians and as we continue we look now at the way that Christians were following the teaching of the Judaizers, and how easy it is for believers today to be taken away by false teaching. We are reminded this morning of the calling for believers to contend for the one true Gospel in the midst of a world that is constantly throwing false Gospels at us.
This morning we are starting a new study through Galatians, and we are starting by looking at the theme of the book...grace! This theme comes through the lens of the Galatians dealing with legalism in their churches, and we all know too well that even in our own minds we fight legalism every day. So it's fitting today that we look at how we combat legalism in the church and how we live in light of the free and abundant grace of God. Enjoy and be blessed!
This morning we are getting ready to wrap up our study through the ministry of the church, and specifically how the church reflects the Gospel to the community. The final way that she does this is through the unity that she shares with her members. Every member of the church is a part of the body, and had a vital and valid role to play; each role being as integral and important as the next. When we show this kind of care for each other and reservation for each other's giftings, as Paul calls us to, we point others toward the authority of God and remind them of his Word and his command. Be blessed as you study with us.
This morning we are looking at one of the final ways that the church reflects the Gospel, namely that we portray the Gospel when we respond to the Gospel in faith. The church has the opportunity to show what genuine faith looks like, and the ability to exemplify the faith that Jesus calls us to. When the world responds to life with despair and frustration, but the church responds with confidence in God's leading and direction, we testify to the saving grace of Christ and his work on our behalf. Enjoy and be blessed as we study together!
As our summer series comes to a close, we turn our attention to how we reflect the Gospel when we respond to the truths of the Bible appropriately. The first response needed, when we see what Scripture presents about us, and about God, is that we must respond with repentance. We must be defined as those people who reject the lies of the world and turn to embrace the truths of the Bible and strive to walk in light of them. Enjoy and be blessed as we study together!
We now turn our attention to how the church reflects the Gospel when it comes to how we present and talk about Jesus Christ. The Gospel is nothing without him, and without accounting for all that he did on Calvary. The Gospel is most on display when we point people toward the person and work of Christ. Be blessed as we study together about the person whom we worship for the work of saving us!
As we continue in our series about how the Church reflects the Gospel to the community, we turn now to what the Bible says about sin. Some churches want to skirt around sin, and not address it; however, we must understand that even discussing sin, and sins effects and the deliverance of sin that we find in Christ, is a reflection of the Gospel. This morning we discuss how that can be together! Be blessed as you study with us!
This morning, we are continuing in our series through 'How the Church Reflects the Gospel'. Today we are looking at the reality that one way the church does this is by the way that the people within the church treat other people. We are reminded today that all people, in all times, and in all places are made in the image of God and are therefore deserving of dignity and respect. This ought to remind us that there is no place for favoritism within the church, and that things like racism, sexism, and other forms of prejudice are not fitting of the Bride of Christ. Enjoy today as we are reminded that we are to love our neighbors as we love ourselves!
As we continue in our series about how the Church is a reflection of the Gospel, we turn now to how we portray Christ's work in how we revere God's authority. The Bible teaches that humanity balks at God's authority and wages war against God on the grounds of His authority. Scripture teaches that upon salvation we are now free, not to do whatever we wish, but to do that which we were made to do; obey God's commands. Thus the church is the place where God's authority is heeded, respected and obeyed and we have the ability to show our devotion to that authority in how we live life! Enjoy and be blessed as you listen.
This morning we continue to study about how the Church can reflect the Gospel. Specifically, we are looking at how we reflect the Gospel when we portray the holiness of God. God's desire of the Israelites was that they would point pagan nations toward their God. This was the reason for the 10 Commandments; that the Israelites would not be like the rest of the world, and would thus point people toward their perfect, holy God. This is what he desires of the church as well. We have the privilege of pointing people toward the Gospel of Jesus by showing the perfection and holiness that God calls us to. Be blessed as you study with us.
This morning we are continuing our sermon series on how the church reflects the Gospel to the community. Last week, we studied about the purpose of the institution of the church, and this week, we are going to look at the role of that institution and how she carries that role out. Be blessed and enjoy as you study with us this morning!
This morning we are continuing our new series as we look at how the church, and the members of the church, are called to reflect the Gospel to the community. The New Testament teaches us that the church was created and ordained to be the Bride of her Savior, Jesus Christ. As a Bride, God has also ordained that she be pure and spotless and consecrated for her groom. And as such, we come to revere the church as one of God's greatest institutions. This morning we study about why it is one of His greatest institutions, and what is so great about it. Enjoy and be blessed!
This morning we turn our attention to the Easter Season, as next week is Palm Sunday. Today we look specifically at what it is that Jesus longed to accomplish in salvation, namely that he would make for himself a people, a bride, who was pure and spotless and blameless, much the same as himself. Today, we evaluate how this plays out in the Christian life and how obedience compliments Jesus' intention.
Here is part 2 of our previous sermon. We continue to look at the difference between Godly behavior and worldly behavior. Paul paints for us a picture of what our behavior ought to look like in light of our salvation in Christ and how we ought to live. Enjoy and be encouraged as you study with us about the calling of the believer in light of his/her new found life.
This morning we continue in our study of the book of Titus as we begin chapter 2. Here Paul moves his attention to teaching Titus about the things that 'accord with sound doctrine' (Titus 2:1), and namely, those behaviors that are befitting of a disciple of Jesus. Here Paul dramatically, and intentionally draws a separation between the church and the world and the lifestyle that the church is called to. He reminds us that we are not of this world and therefore we ought to live as those who are merely sojourners in this land. Be encouraged today as you study with us about the calling of Jesus Christ on the life of the believer.
This morning we continue through the book of Titus, and we look specifically now at the different that Paul shows us between what Biblical teaching looks like and what the teaching of false teachers looks like. In today's church era, we must be quick to discern what is true from what is false and we must be diligent in making sure that we weed out that which is false from our lives and from our churches. This morning, we investigate with Paul, what the calling of the Biblical teacher is and what the difference is between them.
This morning, we are taking a short vacation from the book of Titus, and looking at John's teaching on what it means to love as God loves. Too often we let the culture around us influence how we love, why we love and who we love, rather than looking to God's Word for His influence on those things. Be blessed this morning as we contemplate the love that God has showered us with.
This morning, we are continuing in our study through Titus and moving on to learn about Paul's instruction in regards to what a pastor/elder is to do with false teaching/teachers. Throughout Scripture, we learn from Jesus, Paul, Peter, John, Jude, etc...that there will be false teaching that makes its way in to the church. So the question is not, 'will it happen to your church', the question is 'when will it happen? And what will you do about it?'. As I say two times during this sermons, "It is a scary thing to know that false teaching will make its way in; it is far scarier to know that it will happen and do nothing about it".
Pastor Tyler was sick this Sunday, so one of our Sunday School teachers, Kent Blessing, stepped in and filled the pulpit. Today, we take a look at what Scripture says about itself...namely that it is sufficient and perfect for all of our needs! Enjoy and be blessed, as God's Word does it's work in changing all of our lives!
This morning, we continue in our study of Titus and the qualifications of the elders in God's churches. All around us we take time to qualify things and positions: to be the President, you must meet qualifications; to drive you have to meet qualifications, to be a teacher or coach you must meet certain qualifications. There is no question that the office of elder/pastor in God's church is a qualified office and therefore we take time to look at how God qualifies those who fill that office. This morning we continue to study about the appointing of elders and what goes into it.
This morning, we continue in our series through Titus, and specifically we begin by looking at the reason for Titus' ministry on Crete, and specifically his calling to appoint elders for the completion of the church. There is much misunderstanding in the Christian church today about the role, function, appointing, and qualifying of elders/pastors in today's church. So this week and next week, we take time to look at the calling of the elder/pastor and what the qualifications for that role look like. Enjoy and be blessed!
Welcome to First Baptist Church. We hope you are blessed by God's Word as you listen to our podcast. God bless you and come join us sometime. Check out our church website at www.hutchfbc.org!
This morning, we are in our 2nd week of Advent and we are celebrating the first coming of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ and we are also waiting in anticipation for his 2nd coming. We know that all that Christ promised, will come to fruition at his 2nd coming, and therefore we wait for that day. Today we look at Isaiah and his prophecies and specifically, the prophecy that speaks of God 'rending the heavens'; tearing them open in order that he might descend to his people. May we find peace and comfort in the fact that God did so once, and he promises that he will do so again and when he does, all will be made right and all will be made new!
This morning is our 2nd sermon in the series: Preparing for Advent. Today we look at how the Christian ought to respond the news of the coming Savior. There is a right and a wrong way to respond during Advent and today we look at how God calls us to respond: through praise and thanksgiving!
Today, as we are moving toward Advent, we take a special look at why Advent was needed. We want to emphasize this morning the need for Jesus, what he offered to Jews of the day, and what he grants to each one of us in light of faith that is placed in him. Join with us today and be encouraged by the finished work of Jesus on your behalf.
This morning we observed 'Orphan Sunday', a day in which the church specifically takes time to look at the need for Christians to care for orphans worldwide. As believers, who have been redeemed, we also hold that God has adopted us, as sons who didn't have a father, into his family. And because we are those who have been adopted, then we too are called to ministry of adoption, that we might show the gospel through adoption to others. Enjoy!
This morning we are taking time to remember those saints who have gone before us and how they lived the Christian life. All Saints Day has been a day in which the church commemorates the saints who we learn from and the examples that they set. The writer of Hebrews teaches us that because of the faithfulness of those saints, we too can learn how to run this race that we are in, in a way that is faithful and complete. Enjoy and be blessed!
The Sunday before Halloween is known as "Reformation Sunday". A day in which we take time to specifically remember a time in the history of the church that has largely shaped the face of the modern Christian church. This morning we look at the life of Martin Luther and his influence on the church but specifically in writing his most famous hymn "A Mighty Fortress Is Our God". Today we are studying Psalm 46 (the psalm that the hymn is based on) and why a man like Luther and those with him could take refuge in God in the midst of the difficulty they were seeing. May we too, in the midst of our circumstances, find the same solace in our God! Enjoy and be blessed!
This morning is our second sermon in our sermon series titled "Harvest". We have been looking at the reality that the harvest is ready for the believers to go to. Last week, we looked specifically at the fact that we are called to this, and thus Christ demands our obedience. But this week, we switch gears a little and focus more on how we prepare, how we ready ourselves for this task. We look at 2 Timothy this morning as we learn how it is that God equips and prepares his children for the work that he has called them to. Enjoy as we continue to learn about how God intends to equip you and me for the work of ministry.
This morning we are starting a very short sermon series as we look at the season of harvest. We start with the calling to the harvest that we find from Jesus in John 4, as he commands his disciples to look to the horizon and see that the harvest is ready now for the workers to go and reap what has been sown. May we as Christians, realize the calling for us to be ready for the harvest and be about the work of reaping all that God has sown.
This morning we are nearing the end of the Epistle of James and we are studying James teaching on prayer and the proper time and occasion for prayer! Whether you are one who struggles to pray on a consistent basis or you have the practice mastered, we hope this sermon will draw you back and remind you of the reason you pray, the calling to pray, the method of prayer and the Hearer of Prayer! God bless!
This morning we are moving on in James and studying verse 12 by itself. In our text we learn about James' commendation to us to not swear, or take oaths by anything in heaven or in earth, but rather to be men and women of our word and let our yes be yes and our no be no. We are called to be of such integrity that we have no need to back up our words with silly promises or oaths. Be blessed this morning and may we all strive to be men and women of our words.
