Many initially are willing to follow the Lord but fail to count the cost. Upon realizing the great sacrifice necessary to follow Him, many are unwilling to pay the price.

Some of the first things many of us do after we make reservations for a vacation is to create a packing list and a to-do list. The lists help us focus on what needs to be done before we arrive so that we can have a successful trip. Jesus asks that we follow Him with the same level of intentionality.

Sunday, May 22, 2022 – The title of the message today is “The Cost of Following Jesus”. Does it sound like a message you may not want to listen to? Well, if Jesus taught it, it makes sense that we should listen to what He teaches, right? Here’s the point, Jesus never speaks anything to discourage people or to push them away, rather He speaks to encourage and prepare people for what’s ahead. To prepare us, so that we aren’t disappointed or taken by surprise when hard things come to us, even after we have received His free gift of eternal life. Rest assured, life will be good and bad, whether you have a relationship with Jesus or not. I can promise you it will be a lot worse without Him, but it’s not a promise it will be a “bed of roses” with Him either. Remember we have an enemy that is still on the loose and he’s out to kill and destroy. But, we have a promise that if we count the cost and determine that we will follow Jesus at any cost, He will be with us to the end, and we will win! Worship with us and be encouraged as we count the cost together

A Road to Nowhere? Rev Keith Morrison Luke 14: 25-33
It's amazing that anyone reading through the Gospel of Luke for the first time makes it past chapter 14 without throwing in the towel. That's where Jesus gives a stump speech that's honestly a real turn off. You might say it was his worst sermon ever. Jesus, who is all about loving even your enemy, says to a large crowd following him, "Whoever comes to me and does not hate father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters, yes, and even life itself, cannot be my disciple. Whoever does not carry the cross and follow me cannot be my disciple." Doesn't that sound inspiring? It's easy to skip right over these hard sayings of Jesus, and indeed, many preachers do! But I think it's important that we give it a look and consider how Luke 14:25-33 invites us to count the cost of following Jesus.
The benefits and the costs of being a disciple of Jesus are significant. To become his disciple one must die to oneself. Then, and only then will your life be saved – death always precedes resurrection.
