In Luke 14:26–35, Jesus calls His disciples to a love that puts Him above family, possessions, and even life itself. He speaks of carrying the cross, counting the cost, and staying salty for God's kingdom. In this episode, we explore what it means to truly follow Christ, with modern-day examples of choosing Him over family pressure, career gain, or personal dreams. The cost is great, but the reward—Christ Himself—is greater.

Episode Notes Following Jesus requires surrender and comes at a cost. Through three encounters—the Negotiator, the Hesitater, and the Half-Hearted—we're reminded that what we gain in Christ far outweighs anything we give up, because He is worth it all

Luke 9:23 Then he said to them all: “Whoever wants to be my DISCIPLE must DENY themselves and TAKE up their CROSS DAILY and follow me.

Have you ever had to save up for something? Maybe it was a new house, or a car, or just some big purchase that was important to you. The discipline to save money is difficult. Every purchase becomes a decision about what is most important. When we are saving up to buy something we are aware of these constant priority decisions, but the truth is that we are making these decisions all the time without even realizing it. How we spend our time, our money, or even our emotional or mental energy speaks volumes about what we consider to be most important. This sermon looks at Luke chapter 14 where Jesus challenges the people of his day about the way they determine what is most important. He also emphasizes the invitation that God gives to us to be his children and citizens of his kingdom. Like the people of Jesus' day, we often let other things get in the way or take a higher priority than trusting and following Jesus. Jesus challenges them, and us, to truly count the cost of following Jesus and to always consider that being a follower of Jesus is of greater importance than anything else in this world.
Jesus calls us to more than belief—He calls us to surrender. This message unpacks what it means to pick up your cross, deny yourself, and follow Him. We'll explore the call to total allegiance, the death of earthly desires, and the truth that real self-denial leads not to loss, but to life in Christ.

the cost of following Jesus
Jesus often taught in parables, simple stories that illustrated a spiritual truth. Some of Jesus' most famous parables are unique to the Gospel of Luke. In what we call the Parable of the Good Samaritan, Jesus describes for his followers who would be their neighbor and what it means to be a good neighbor. Telling the Parable of the Pharisee and Tax Collector, he focuses on the condition of the heart and salvation by grace. Jesus' parables highlight a major theme in Luke: our call to discipleship. Throughout the book, we repeatedly find the invitation to follow Jesus Christ. Together, let's discover what Jesus teaches about the attitudes and hearts of his followers and discuss honestly what it costs to prioritize Jesus in our lives.
When Jesus said He had 'no place to lay His head,' He wasn't complaining about homelessness—He was declaring His mission wasn't about settling into religious comfort zones. Are you trying to fit Jesus into your plans, or are you willing to follow Him wherever He leads? The kingdom of God operates on urgency, not convenience.

Through the years, there have been thousands of books written on self-improvement, but very few on self-denial. Salvation is a free gift from God. But followership, walking in the will of God day by day here on Earth, that's going to cost you something. Today, Ron takes us once again to the life and ministry of the Apostle Paul, a man who suffered greatly for the cause of Christ. Stay with us now as Ron moves ahead with his teaching series, “Paul: Surprised by Grace.”

Sermon By: Pastor Roman Folia (The Gospel of Matthew pt 28)
Jesus explicitly states that whoever follows him must deny themselves, take up their cross daily, and follow him. But what is the cost of following Jesus? We see three instances where someone wants to follow Jesus, but instead decides that their earthly obligations outweigh their eternal ones. To be a disciple, no human relationship or responsibility can come before our relationship with Christ. Speaker: Mike Slayden

It sheds light on the destructive, Islam-based mindset that has to be resisted by every new follower of Jesus.
