In this message from Matthew 15:29–16:4, Pastor Karl examines two very different groups of people who come to Jesus — and what their approach reveals about how we receive grace. The first group comes from the Decapolis, a Gentile region with no religious standing or covenant claim. They bring broken bodies, unspoken needs, and nothing to offer — and Jesus meets them with compassion, healing, and even provision they didn't know to ask for. The second group, the Pharisees and Sadducees, arrives with suspicion and a demand for proof — and Jesus refuses to perform for them. The contrast surfaces a powerful truth: Jesus has endless compassion for those who come to him needy, but no obligation to satisfy those who come feeling entitled. Unworthiness isn't a disqualification for grace — it's the prerequisite for it.Pastor Karl unpacks why the disciples hesitated to feed the 4,000 (it wasn't that they forgot what Jesus could do — it was that they questioned who he'd do it for), what it really means to "fall from grace," and why the cross is the only reliable lens through which to interpret God's love. When we bring our "not enough" to Jesus, we find that inadequacy is exactly the raw material he's looking for.Watch all our sermons on our youtube channel "Flipside Christian Church"Join us in person 8:00am, 9:30am & 11:00am every Sunday morning.37193 Ave 12 #3h, Madera, CA 93636For more visit us at flipside.churchFor more podcasts visit flipsidepodcasts.transistor.fm

What do you do when the storms of life hit? Our instinct is to hunker down, strain at the oars, and just try to survive. But what if the storm isn't just an obstacle — what if it's an invitation?Guest speaker Jeff Stemple walks us through one of the most familiar stories in Scripture: Jesus walking on water. And while the story is familiar, the truth buried inside it is anything but comfortable. By looking at the accounts in Mark, John, and Matthew side by side, Jeff unpacks why Matthew is the only gospel writer who includes Peter's attempt to step out of the boat — and why that "screw up" might be the most encouraging part of the whole story. The storms of life are invitations to step out in faith.Fear says stay put. Faith says step out. And what Jesus says to Peter in the middle of that storm, he says to all of us — come. The very place we least want to go may be the exact place Jesus is already standing, waiting for us to trust him.Whether your storm started last week or last year, this episode is for you.Watch all our sermons on our youtube channel "Flipside Christian Church"Join us in person 8:00am, 9:30am & 11:00am every Sunday morning.37193 Ave 12 #3h, Madera, CA 93636For more visit us at flipside.churchFor more podcasts visit flipsidepodcasts.transistor.fm

This week, Pastor AJ challenged us with one important question: “What are you known for?” In 1 Corinthians 4, Paul says he wanted to be known as a faithful servant of Christ, seeking the approval of God over the approval of people. We were reminded that heroes of the faith are not defined by platform or recognition, but by obedience. Just like Edward Kimball's simple faithfulness led to a ripple effect that impacted generations, our obedience to God can impact lives in ways we may never see. Most of us carry some form of ID everywhere we go. The reason is because we never know when we might need it. As we turn to the final section of the book of Hebrews, we will learn how important it is that we never forget our identity as kingdom citizens.
Galatians - Kingdom Living Today is the introduction to Galatians as we start our new series on Kingdom living.
As we continue to wrap up our Hebrews series, the author explains some very important ways in which you and I can help bring God's kingdom to our broken world. Join us as we continue to step more into living as Kingdom Citizens in our city.

Well, we have finally made it to the last chapter of Hebrews. Up to this point, the author has been walking us through some beautiful and rich teaching on who Jesus actually is and what he has accomplished for us. He has made it possible for us to draw near to God as our Father. Now, the author wants us to understand how this alters our manner of living. He moves us from vertical thinking, to horizontal living. This week we are going to be challenged to take specific action on living the kingdom life now.

John 3:3 (NKJV) Jesus answered and said to him, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot SEE THE KINGDOM of God.” In John 8, Jesus says this, “My Kingdom is not of this world.” Like we said last week, one of the biggest challenges the born-again face isn't so much the powers of the kingdom of darkness, It's our refusal to embrace the world we're born of, embracing a way of living that is beyond humanity.

Send a text In this episode of BuddyWalk with Jesus, we step into Matthew 5:13–16, where Jesus tells His disciples, “You are the salt of the earth… You are the light of the world.” This isn't a call to be loud, flashy, or performative—it's an invitation to a steady, embodied witness that preserves what is good, brings flavor to what is bland, and shines hope into what is dark. We explore what Jesus meant in His original context (salt as preservation and value, light as visibility and guidance), why He connects our “good works” to the Father's glory (not our image), and how to live a public faith without becoming religious performers. If you've ever wondered what it means to make a real difference without losing your soul, this passage is Jesus' roadmap: presence, integrity, and kingdom goodness that can't help but be seen. Send a text In this episode of BuddyWalk with Jesus, we slow down over Matthew 5:10: “Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness' sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.” Jesus isn't promoting paranoia, a victim mindset, or picking fights—He's preparing apprentices for what happens when Kingdom life collides with the values of the world. We explore what “persecuted” means in the original language, why Jesus qualifies it as suffering for righteousness (not for being difficult), and why He repeats the same promise as the first Beatitude: “theirs is the kingdom of heaven.” This episode helps you discern persecution versus consequences, resist bitterness or performative martyrdom, and remain rooted in the present-tense reality of God's Kingdom—even when faithfulness costs you. Send a text we slow down over Matthew 5:9: “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God.” Jesus isn't blessing peace-lovers or peace-keepers—He's blessing peace-makers: people who do the costly work of moving relationships, communities, and even enemies toward God's shalom (wholeness, justice, and restored right-order). We explore the original language, why this was a radical statement under an empire that claimed “peace” through dominance, and how peacemaking is often cross-shaped: truth without contempt, accountability without revenge, boundaries without hatred. In a tribalized, algorithm-driven world that profits from conflict, this episode offers practical tools to become un-manipulable disciples—people who pursue repair, protect the vulnerable, and carry the family resemblance of the Father. Pastor Chris was back in the Chapter House with Robert Brown to talk about several passages of Scripture-- and they all had (at least in Pastor Chris' mind) some things in common. There's a verse in Psalm 112 that talks about how the wicked see how the righteous live and they are "vexed" and "gnash their teeth." What does that say about them? And what does that say about how we should live in light of Kingdom values? Join us! It was an interesting conversation. Have you been praying the Lord's Prayer all wrong? We sit down with Brad Gray and Brad Nelson from Walking The Text to discuss their book Bringing Heaven Here and their cinematic feature film on the Lord's Prayer. And trust us, this isn't your Sunday school recap. Our conversation explores the historical, geographical, and biblical context of the most familiar prayer in Christian theology, revealing layers you've probably never noticed: Exodus connections, first-century Jewish cosmology, the kingdom of God as spiritual warfare, and why Jesus structured this prayer as the blueprint for kingdom living.Turns out, the Lord's Prayer isn't just something to recite—it's a declaration of war against the forces of darkness and a daily roadmap for partnering with God's mission on earth. We explore how "Our Father in the heavens" (yes, that's plural!) connects to ancient Israelite cosmology, why the kingdom of God is the heartbeat of Jesus's ministry, and how every line of this prayer maps onto Christ's life and mission. We'll also tackle spiritual warfare from a biblical perspective, challenging both hyper-charismatic extremes and the dangerous denial that evil is real. If you've ever felt stuck between "there's a demon behind every bush" and "spiritual warfare isn't really a thing," this episode will recalibrate your understanding.Plus, we get into the nerdy stuff: the Didache's instruction to pray this three times a day, the connection between the Shema and daily prayer rhythms, how liturgy functions as operating software for the soul, and why the Sermon on the Mount is structured with the Lord's Prayer at its center. If you've been treating the Lord's Prayer like a religious formality, prepare to have your mind blown. This is about joining Jesus in the mission of bringing heaven to earth—pushing out chaos, advancing God's rule and reign, and living with eyes wide open to the war unfolding around us.0:00 – Introduction5:35 – Why create a book on the Lord's Prayer8:34 – The Lord's Prayer as blueprint for life14:24 – How the prayer condenses Jesus's ministry23:16 – "Our Father" and the Exodus 4 connection31:38 – "In the Heavens": Ancient Jewish cosmology44:54 – Spiritual warfare and advancing God's kingdom55:46 – Resources and closingABOUT THE GUESTS:
Send us a text In this episode of BuddyWalk with Jesus, we slow down over Matthew 5:7: “Blessed are the merciful, for they shall receive mercy.” What does Jesus mean by mercy—and how is it different from being permissive, naïve, or a doormat? We explore the Bible's language of mercy, the Old Testament heartbeat of God's steadfast love, and why Jesus places mercy right in the middle of the Beatitudes. In a culture that rewards outrage, shaming, and payback, this episode calls us into a Kingdom way of living where truth and compassion belong together. You'll also get practical, doable steps for practicing mercy—through your words, your relationships, and even your boundaries—so your life can reflect the heart of the Father. Send us a text In this episode of BuddyWalk with Jesus, we slow down over Matthew 5:6: “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied.” Jesus isn't just calling us to do the right thing—He's inviting us into a new kind of desire. We unpack the language of hunger and thirst in the Greek, explore what “righteousness” (dikaiosynē) means in Matthew (right relationship, justice, and alignment with God's will), and confront how our cravings are shaped in a world of endless consumption and algorithm-driven attention.
