Jesus' first miracle reveals His glory to His disciples. He will also reveal His glory to us if we do whatever He tells us to.
How we see God influences and shapes how we see everything else. If our problems seem too big, it is because we do not see how big our God is. The Bible recounts 37 miracles. Each speaks a specific message and conveys the power of the almighty God to those who observed them first-hand and to generations to come. These 37 miracles address every situation and obstacle we face. They speak to a divine presence and exercise of power. They announce the possibility, power, and compassion of God. Our text describes the first miracle at the marriage in Cana, where Jesus turns water into wine. It saved the wedding party from the embarrassment of not having enough for their guests. While not essential or life-changing, It conveys that nothing is too small or insignificant for our God to handle. He can do the impossible, but not every situation is opening blind eyes, healing the sick, or raising from the dead. This miracle teaches us that God cares about us and that nothing is too small or insignificant to bring to Him. He can do more than we expect or even deserve. We have all been in a place of not having enough. God can and will help in these situations. When no one else cares, God cares. This first miracle teaches us that big or small, simple or complex, God will supply our needs.

Christ Turns Water into Wine.
“Now Jesus did many other signs in the presence of the disciples, which are not written in this book; but these are written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.” John 20:30-31 ESV

Today we are kicking off a new sermon series called 'Encounters with Jesus' and we are looking at John chapter 2 and the start of Jesus' ministry.
This Sunday we will begin a new Sermon series on the "7 Signs of Jesus" from the Gospel of John. Each of these signs are chosen by John for one grand purpose found in John 20:31. "But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name." This week we will look at the first sign of Jesus in John 2:1-11, where Jesus turns water into wine. Jesus turning water into wine at the marriage, was a public miracle. It was the "beginning of miracles did Jesus in Cana of Galilee" (John 2:11). When Jesus said "Woman" to His mother, it was not a form of disrespect, like the tone would be interpreted now. God works through emptiness and obedience. How much success do we find when we're still relying on self. CS Lewis said, the only way to fill the God shaped hole is with God (paraphrase). Once you have Jesus, you don't need anything else to fill that hole.

In this section of John’s gospel (John 2:1-11), Jesus is at a wedding when a serious catering problem arises. Before long, Jesus gets involved, and in doing so his intervention becomes exhibit A in who he is.
We will not find happiness in this world. Just like those water pots, we will be left dry and empty. We find our true joy in the Lord Jesus Christ. If we will trust Him and serve Him, our joy can be full. Music by the McKameys.
